Product
The Migration office furniture line by Steelcase is subject to continuous quality control during manufacture
and distribution. This ensures fault-free functioning.
The products are designed and manufactured according to the state of the art (in Germany at the time of
construction) and recognised safety-relevant rules; however, hazards may still arise. Please follow the
respective safety-relevant information. Malfunctions that could impair safety must be eliminated immediately.
We reserve the right to make technical changes to the products for technical reasons.
Steelcase applies a quality management system that meets the requirements of DIN EN ISO 9001.
Steelcase has the right to use the GS Mark for the Migration product line.
Steelcase affixes the Öko-Audit-Siegel (ECO-Audit-Seal) for the "EC system for the environmental

This user manual provides information concerning components, function, operation and maintenance of the
Migration desk and its components.
In case of malfunctions, it serves as an aid in troubleshooting.
The safety-relevant information is intended to help prevent personal injury and material damage.
The users of the Migration desk are responsible for becoming acquainted with the safety-relevant
information and for observing it at all times.
Steelcase assumes no liability and gives no warranty for damage or malfunctions resulting from non-
compliance with the user manual.
This user manual is part of the Migration desk. It is only valid as a complete document. Even when reselling

Intended use
The Migration desk is exclusively designed to be used as office furniture. Any other use, or use beyond the
specified intended use is considered to be improper use.
Intended use also includes compliance with all instructions in the user manual.
Foreseeable misuse
Improper use of the product may result in dangers to life and limb as well as property damage. For this reason,
improper use is prohibited. In case of improper use, Steelcase assumes no liability for any damage that may
occur and does not guarantee that the components will function properly.
Possible improper use includes:
•Use for the lifting of loads.
•Use as a climbing aid.
•Use as a permanent storage surface for objects with a total weight of more than approx. 75 kg.
•Outdoor use.
•Use in damp rooms.

Safety-relevant information
The Migration desk may only be used and operated when in a technically perfect condition and in compliance
with the user manual.
The user of the Migration desk is responsible for complying with the safety-relevant information and warnings
stated in this user manual at all times.
In addition to the user manual, the general and local regulations on accident prevention and environmental
protection must be made available and followed.
Users with limitations
This desk can be used by children 8 years of age and older, as well as by persons with reduced physical,
sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, if they are supervised, or have been
instructed in the safe use of the desk, and understand the dangers associated with use of the desk. Children are
not allowed to play with the desk. Cleaning and user maintenance tasks must not be performed by unsupervised
children.

The Migration desk mainly consists of the components listed below (the description of the variants can be
found under the respective chapter):
•Desktop with plastic parts for desktop mounting
•Migration: Columns with steel pipe runner (65x25x2 mm), screwed, including adjustment screw for
compensating floor unevenness, cable duct (optional)
•Migration Bench: Columns without runners, cross-member (screwed), optional central cable duct
•Top cantilever left/right
•Horizontal structural tube
•Optional electrical height adjustment:
−Lift 1: Electric motor (720...1200), in column
−Lift 2: Electric motor (650...1250), in column
−Lift 3: Electric motor, special lift (620…1280), in column

Electrical height adjustment unit
Operation of the electrical height adjustment unit is described under Operation and settings.
The electrical height adjustment unit enables the adjustment and fixed programming for three optimum desk
heights (sitting and standing heights). The electrical height adjustment unit basically consists of the following
components:
•Lift 1: Electric motor 720...1200
•Lift 2: Electric motor 650...1250
•Lift 3 "Special lift": Electric motor 620…1280
•Control panel
•Control system for lift height adjustment, including software-supported stopping device
The stopping device is an extension module for the desk height adjustment unit. It reacts as soon as the
movement of the desk is interrupted by an object, e.g. when an open window is in the movement range. The
movement of the desk is then stopped; the direction of movement reversed, and the desktop is moved approx. 2
cm away from the area of obstruction.
The stopping device does not react to relatively soft objects.
The mechanical lift movement is performed via an electronic controller, which is located in a plastic housing
under the desktop.

The fastening screws could tear if the desk is lifted by the desktop or the
attached components.
Always take hold of the desk at the underframe to transport or move it.
ATTENTION
Risk of damage to lift mechanism!
The values saved in the controller do not match the values for another
desk.
After dismantling the desk for transport reasons for example:
Always reattach the two side frames to the associated desktop cross-
member of the same desk.
Comply with the separate assembly instructions in this regard.
Interim storage
If the desk must be temporarily stored before installation, the following conditions must be fulfilled:
•Intact transport packaging
•The floor must have sufficient load-bearing capacity
•Dry floor
•Level placement surface
•Temperature range: +5 °C to +35 °C.
•Max. rel. humidity: 80 %

Safety-relevant information
WARNING
Danger of crushing and shearing!
Body parts or objects could be crushed or sheared off as a result of the
electrical height adjustment process.
In the entire lift range, maintain adequate lateral clearance (at least 2.5 cm)
to all surrounding objects, walls, etc.
Set up the desk in such a manner that sufficient space for the complete lift
movement and space for maintenance work is ensured.
WARNING
Risk of injury or damage!
The fastening screws could tear if the desk is lifted by the desktop or the
attached components.
Always take hold of the desk at the underframe to transport or move it.
Checking the delivery contents
After unpacking, check the product immediately for damage sustained during transportation and for
completeness; inform the manufacturer of any damage as soon as possible.
Disposing of the packaging material
The packaging includes the following:
•Outer packaging made of cardboard
•Shrink film made of polyethylene (PE)
•Bubble wrap made of polyethylene (PE)
•Edge protectors made of cardboard or polyethylene (PE)
•Corner protectors made of polyethylene (PE).
These materials are recyclable. If assembled by Steelcase or an assembly company authorised by Steelcase,
the manufacturer will dispose of the packaging. If you assemble the desk yourself, please ensure that the
packaging material is correctly sorted by type and recycled.
Electrical connection
Check the electrical equipment of the desk. Rectify defects such as loose connections and damaged cables
immediately.
Attach or detach connectors only when the equipment is de-energised.
The desk plug must be easily accessible at all times.

Setting up the desk
Setup and use of the product requires detailed planning. For this Steelcase offers the services of a separate
planning department.
The partially assembled components of the Migration desk are generally supplied via retailers or directly from
the manufacturer.
The setup location must meet the following requirements:
•The floor must have sufficient load-bearing capacity
•Level placement surface
•Temperature range: +5 °C to +40 °C.
•Max. rel. humidity: 80 %
Assembling the desk
Steelcase recommends having the installation performed by the retailer or by a qualified installation company.
Height levelling
To compensate for uneven ground, you can raise each foot by up to 1.0 cm with an adjusting screw.
For a desk that has already been assembled: before levelling, remove any objects from the desktop.

If you want to disassemble, temporarily store and reassemble the desk, for example for a move, see sections
Transport and storage and Setup and assembly.
Dismantling the desk
The desk can be dismantled into its pre-assembled components. Dismantling should only be realised by skilled
and qualified personnel. Comply with the separate assembly instructions.
ATTENTION
Risk of damage to lift mechanism!
The values saved in the controller do not match the values for another
desk.
After dismantling the desk for transport reasons for example:
Always reattach the two side frames to the associated desktop cross-
member of the same desk.
Comply with the separate assembly instructions in this regard.
If you want to disassemble the desk for good and dispose of it, follow the instructions under Disposing of the
desk.

Operation and settings
Safety-relevant information
The Migration desk may only be used and operated when in a technically perfect condition and in compliance
with the user manual.
Before changing the height of the desk, ensure that:
•The desktop is level. If the floor is uneven, align the desktop via the adjustment screws on the feet.
•There are no people or objects (e.g. open doors or windows) in the lift area or that protrude into the lift
range.
•No one is on the desk.
•The maximum permissible load-carrying capacity of the desk is not exceeded.
DANGER
Danger due to voltage!
Contact with voltage can cause severe injury or death by electric shock!
Attach or detach connectors only when the equipment is de-energised.
Do not open the housings of the following components:
- Controller
- Columns
- Control panel
DANGER
Danger due to voltage!
The metal parts of the desk can become energised if live cables and
connections are damaged.
Do not earth electrical devices to the desk frame!
WARNING
Risk of injury or damage!
The fastening screws could tear when loading the CPU holder with a weight
higher than the permissible weight.
Comply with the permissible weight!

attached components.

Ensure that the connecting cables for the devices on the desk are long enough.
Optimum desk height
The adjustment to the optimum desk height (sitting height) is crucial for the correct sitting posture at the
workstation. The correct desk height setting for the workstation can be found in the workstation analysis
(pursuant to the German Occupational Safety and Health Act, the German VDU Ordinance, or accident
prevention regulations, for example). See also BGI 650: Screen and office workstations. Design guidelines.
Height levelling procedure
Height levelling can be performed with all desk variants. If the floor is uneven, the height can be adjusted by up
to 10 mm with an adjusting screw on each of the feet of the desk.

Remove all objects from the desk.
Turn the adjusting screw until the height is levelled.
