All POS devices accept VISA, MasterCard®and Union
Pay International. American Express, Diners Club, RCS,
Fleet and other card types can only be accepted if the
merchant has signed a separate merchant agreement
with these issuers

If the card has expired, the transaction will fail

The rst four digits dene the card type
Magnetic Strip
If a chip transaction fails, complete a magnetic
strip transaction
Signature Panel
A signature is required for non-chip transactions;
always ensure the member’s signature on the receipt
matches the member’s signature on the card

GENERAL POS DEVICE INFORMATION

1. TURNING THE POS DEVICE ON AND OFF
To turn the POS device on, hold down the green circular button (O) for 15 seconds.
To turn the POS device o, hold down the red cross button (X) for 15 seconds.
2. SCREEN INFORMATION
The background screen is made up of the top banner and the default transaction and
settings menu.

3. POS DEVICE INFORMATION
Tap on the ‘information bar’ (positioned at the top of the screen) to view the POS
device’s data.
The following information will be displayed:
• Terminal ID
• Terminal serial
• Merchant name
• Batch number
• Hot card version
• Card conguration
• Software version
• OS version
• PIN IKSN
• ADE status

To access the advanced functions, contact the SBSA Help Desk for a one-time PIN (OTP).
Communication
• To view communication information for authorisation, banking and VAS, tap the
‘information bar’ and then ‘comms’ (positioned at the bottom of the screen).

• To view information on a POS device connected to GPRS with a SIM card installed, tap
the ‘GSM & SIM provider’ (positioned at the top of the screen).
• To view information on a POS device
connected to WiFi, tap the ‘Wi-Fi signal’
(positioned at the top of the
screen).
• To switch SIM cards, tap ‘SIM switch’
(positioned at the bottom left of the
screen) and wait for the SIM switch to
be successful.

34. DAILY ACTIVITIES
Check daily if all is in order with the POS device.
Tap the ‘information bar’ to see the device’s ‘batch transactions count’.
See Batch Number eld: Batch number 0001 (0 transactions)
To view banking totals:
Select ‘menu’
Select ‘banking’
Select ‘view current batch’
Tap ‘OK’ (O) once completed

The POS device will settle all transactions.
5. CHARGING THE POS DEVICE
A charger is supplied for the POS device. Plug in the charger cable to the POS device and into
the power plug. The POS device can also work on battery
6. REBOOTING THE POS DEVICE
To shut down the POS device, hold down the green circular button (O) for eight seconds. To
reboot the POS device, hold down the green circular button (O) for about eight seconds.
If the POS device is connected to power, holding the green circular button (O) down will restart
the POS device.
If the POS device is stuck and cannot reboot as per the above steps, press 1, 5 and 9
simultaneously. The ‘User APDV’ screen is displayed. On the top banner, swipe the screen to
the left- or right-hand side. Select ‘reboot’ and the POS device will reboot.
7. SUPERVISOR PIN
The supervisor number and PIN will be provided by our eld technician when the POS device is
installed.

8. POTENTIAL ERRORS
Outlined below is a list of the possible errors a user might experience. Please note that this list
may not include all errors users experience in the eld but is rather just a general guideline.
If any of the below errors, or any errors that are not documented, persist, please contact our
support team immediately.
8.1. Settlement required error
If there is an error, a red exclamation mark (!) is displayed on the top left-hand side of the
screen. Tapping on it will display more details about the error, which can be a ‘settlement
required’ error, a ‘parameter required’ error or a ‘hot cards le outdated’ error.
If a ‘settlement required error’ is displayed, this means that a settlement has failed for one
reason or another. A manual banking must be done to bank all transactions:

The POS device will settle all transactions.
8.2. Parameters required error
If a ‘parameters required error’ is displayed, the POS device requires parameters from the host,
which needs to be downloaded manually:
Select ‘menu’
Select ‘merchant’
Select ‘parameters’
Select ‘partial’

The POS device will then download parameters from the host.
When the ‘parameters’ is downloaded, it will display a success or failed message. To print these
details, choose ‘print a POS device setup’ report.

38.3. Hot cards le outdated error
If ‘hot cards le outdated’ is displayed, the POS device’s hot cards are out of date or have failed
to download. Complete a parameter download as seen above.
8.4. Comms error / Error connecting
Check the POS device’s Wi-Fi or GPRS signal and tap for more information. Ensure that the
POS device’s comms information is correct.
If the POS device’s comms information is incorrect, select ‘menu’ on the main screen and
then ‘communications’, and update the POS device to connect to the correct communication
method. Contact our Help Desk if there is any uncertainty.
8.5. Stuck on connecting
Please be patient as this error will time out after 60 seconds.
8.6. Problem when printing
Ensure there is paper in the POS device
Ensure the paper roll is correctly inserted
Ensure the paper closure lid is closed properly
Contact your local Help Desk if the problem persists

8.7. How to check for a faulty POS device
The POS device could be faulty when the following occurs:
• The POS device does not read a customer’s inserted, swiped or tapped card
• The POS device will not power up
• The POS device screen displays ‘error’
• The POS device is struck by lightning
• The POS device’s keyboard is faulty or does not react to the keypad
• The touch pad or touch screen is stuck or does not react to being tapped
If the keyboard is faulty, the keypad does not react to being touched, the touch pad or screen
is stuck or the touch pad or screen does not react to being tapped, reboot the POS device
immediately.
If any problems persist, contact our Help Desk.
8.8. Hold and call / Hot card
If the card is reported lost or stolen, or could be a fraudulent card, contact our authorisations
centre immediately on how to proceed.
