GENERAL POS DEVICE INFORMATION

1. TURNING THE POS DEVICE ON AND OFF
To turn the POS device on, hold down the green circular button (O) for 15 seconds.
To turn the POS device o, hold down the red cross button (X) for 15 seconds.

The background screen is made up of the top banner and the default transaction and
settings menu.

Tap on the ‘information bar’ (positioned at the top of the screen) to view the POS
device’s data.

Communication
• To view communication information for authorisation, banking and VAS, tap the
‘information bar’ and then ‘comms’ (positioned at the bottom of the screen).

• To view information on a POS device connected to GPRS with a SIM card installed, tap
the ‘GSM & SIM provider’ (positioned at the top of the screen).

• To switch SIM cards, tap ‘SIM switch’

34. DAILY ACTIVITIES
Check daily if all is in order with the POS device.
Tap the ‘information bar’ to see the device’s ‘batch transactions count’.
See Batch Number eld: Batch number 0001 (0 transactions)
To view banking totals:
Select ‘menu’
Select ‘banking’
Select ‘view current batch’
Tap ‘OK’ (O) once completed

The POS device will settle all transactions.
5. CHARGING THE POS DEVICE
A charger is supplied for the POS device. Plug in the charger cable to the POS device and into
the power plug. The POS device can also work on battery
6. REBOOTING THE POS DEVICE
To shut down the POS device, hold down the green circular button (O) for eight seconds. To
reboot the POS device, hold down the green circular button (O) for about eight seconds.
If the POS device is connected to power, holding the green circular button (O) down will restart
the POS device.
If the POS device is stuck and cannot reboot as per the above steps, press 1, 5 and 9
simultaneously. The ‘User APDV’ screen is displayed. On the top banner, swipe the screen to
the left- or right-hand side. Select ‘reboot’ and the POS device will reboot.
7. SUPERVISOR PIN
The supervisor number and PIN will be provided by our eld technician when the POS device is
installed.

8. POTENTIAL ERRORS
Outlined below is a list of the possible errors a user might experience. Please note that this list
may not include all errors users experience in the eld but is rather just a general guideline.
If any of the below errors, or any errors that are not documented, persist, please contact our
support team immediately.
8.1. Settlement required error
If there is an error, a red exclamation mark (!) is displayed on the top left-hand side of the
screen. Tapping on it will display more details about the error, which can be a ‘settlement
required’ error, a ‘parameter required’ error or a ‘hot cards le outdated’ error.
If a ‘settlement required error’ is displayed, this means that a settlement has failed for one
reason or another. A manual banking must be done to bank all transactions:

The POS device will settle all transactions.
8.2. Parameters required error
If a ‘parameters required error’ is displayed, the POS device requires parameters from the host,
which needs to be downloaded manually:

The POS device will then download parameters from the host.
When the ‘parameters’ is downloaded, it will display a success or failed message. To print these
details, choose ‘print a POS device setup’ report.

38.3. Hot cards le outdated error
If ‘hot cards le outdated’ is displayed, the POS device’s hot cards are out of date or have failed
to download. Complete a parameter download as seen above.
8.4. Comms error / Error connecting
Check the POS device’s Wi-Fi or GPRS signal and tap for more information. Ensure that the
POS device’s comms information is correct.
If the POS device’s comms information is incorrect, select ‘menu’ on the main screen and
then ‘communications’, and update the POS device to connect to the correct communication
method. Contact our Help Desk if there is any uncertainty.
8.5. Stuck on connecting
Please be patient as this error will time out after 60 seconds.
8.6. Problem when printing
Ensure there is paper in the POS device
Ensure the paper roll is correctly inserted
Ensure the paper closure lid is closed properly
Contact your local Help Desk if the problem persists

8.7. How to check for a faulty POS device
The POS device could be faulty when the following occurs:
• The POS device does not read a customer’s inserted, swiped or tapped card
• The POS device will not power up
• The POS device screen displays ‘error’
• The POS device is struck by lightning
• The POS device’s keyboard is faulty or does not react to the keypad
• The touch pad or touch screen is stuck or does not react to being tapped
If the keyboard is faulty, the keypad does not react to being touched, the touch pad or screen
is stuck or the touch pad or screen does not react to being tapped, reboot the POS device
immediately.
If any problems persist, contact our Help Desk.
8.8. Hold and call / Hot card
If the card is reported lost or stolen, or could be a fraudulent card, contact our authorisations
centre immediately on how to proceed.

8.9. Touch pad or screen or keyboard is stuck
Reboot the POS device and report the problem to our Help Desk.
8.10. Printed ‘authorisation failed’
On the ‘authorisation failed’ receipt, read the detailed error message and reason for decline.
If still unclear, contact our authorisation centre. Please note that declined responses do not
necessarily mean insucient funds.
If the POS device prints a ‘communication failure’ receipt and there is no response from the
host, the device will automatically reverse the request, and the reverse message will be sent
the next time the device connects to the host.
8.11. E-receipts
8.11.1. Tap the ‘information bar’ to view whether there are any pending e-receipts.
This will be sent in the next transaction sent.
8.11.2. Tap the ‘information bar’ . If the batch number eld shows an * at the end, this
means the last transaction has a reversal, which will be sent during the next online
transaction. If the customer did not get an email or SMS, log on to the e-receipt online
service and resend.
9. GENERAL BANK CARD RULES
9.1. Card use exceeded: Velocity override
If the card has been used more than two times in ve minutes, the POS device will go online for
authorisation.
9.2. Chip card: Europay, Mastercard® and Visa (EMV)
The customer must enter his/her PIN if the POS device prompts for one.
If the chip card has more than one account, then ‘select your application’. A chip card can be
a debit or credit card. The chip card may ask to conrm applications; press the green circular
button (O).
Credit accounts
• May not allow Cashback at POS
• May not do a balance
• May or may not ask for a PIN depending if it is a swipe or chip card
Debit accounts
• May allow Cashback at POS
• May do a balance
• May not ask for budget
• Does ask for PIN

4GENERAL TRANSACTION FLOW
Press the # key or tap on the screen the screen the
transaction list and select ‘purchase & cash’
A list of transactions is displayed to select
Scroll down and select ‘purchase’
Enter the amount for goods purchase and then press ‘OK’ (O)
Enter the cashier number, if prompted
If enabled, enter the reference number to print on the receipt
If enabled, enter the invoice number to print on the receipt
The POS device will display ‘please pass to customer’
The total amount is displayed on the ‘insert, swipe or tap card’ screen

Tap to Pay or contactless purchase transactions will be approved oine under the following
conditions:
• The amount is below the contactless oor limit
• The transaction is below the customer verication limit—the transaction will not
request customer verication (PIN or signature request)
If the card has performed too many approved taps oine, the card will stop the contactless
purchase and ask for swipe/insert. The request is approved online, and then it may approve
oine again.
Continue as per general transaction ow.

Continue as per general transaction ow.
Check the ‘automatic settlement’ every day. Ensure to leave the POS device powered up
and plugged in to comms every night. If it fails, it will retry three times, and then a settlement
failed message will print. If there are any new parameters for the POS device, these will be
downloaded. Ensure that no failed parameter reports are printed.
To reprint batch tools:
Press the * key or tap on the device screen
Select ‘merchant’
Select ‘banking’
Select ‘current batch’ or ‘previous’
To view ‘current batch’, select ‘view current batch’
To view ‘previous batch’, select ‘view previous batch’
The batch information will be displayed instead of printing a report.

If the transaction is approved, the POS device screen will

The customer must remove his /her card
The POS device will ask whether the customer wants an electronic
receipt via email or SMS. Select ‘email’ or ‘SMS’ and enter the mode of
communication. The customer will receive an email or SMS

The POS device will display the outcome of the transaction. If the
transaction is approved, this means the goods have been paid for and
can now be handed over to the customer

Remove Card

Entering a purchase amount on the default idle screen will start
the purchase. Alternatively, press the # key or tap on the
screen for a list of transactions.
The following transaction list will be displayed:
