General information

The WMSSA1UP is used to simply and conveniently
retrofit sun shading drives, lighting equipment and window
drives with a wireless remote control.
The functionality of the WMSSA1UPs is parameterisable
and can be adapted for different products.
Intended use
The WMSSA1UP is an electronic device developed
to control sun shading systems, lighting equipment
and window drives. Any use other than the purpose
described in these instructions requires approval from the
manufacturer.
Safety instructions
ARNINGW
Electrical installation must be performed
by a certified electrician in accordance
with VDE0100 or the legal requirements
and standards of the country in which the
device is being installed. The electrician
must observe the installation instructions
included with the electrical devices
supplied.
ARNINGW
If it can be assumed that safe operation
is not possible, the device must not be
put in operation or has to be taken out of
operation. This assumption is justified if
the housing or the connecting lines show
signs of damage
the device is no longer working.
ARNINGW
Switch off the operating voltage of the
WMSSA1UP whenever you perform
activities on the products connected to
the WMSSA1UP or change connected
lighting equipment. Danger due to sudden
movements of the equipment or electric
shock.
AUTIONC
Never press the buttons on your transmitter
randomly without a line of sight to the sun
shading system. Children must not play with
this product – remote controls or transmitters
must not get into the hands of children!
AUTIONC
When using window drives, the installer
of the system must ensure that the
safety regulations and precautions
of DINEN60335-2-103 "Particular
requirements for drives for gates, doors and
windows" as well as ASR 1.6 "Windows, roof
lights, transparent walls" are observed.
ARNINGW
The WMSSA1UP may only be used to
control window drives where the movement
of the window cannot cause any injuries.
Due to both the legal regulations for radio systems and
structural factors, the operating range of radio remote
controls is limited. Sufficient radio reception must be
ensured when planning the project.
Installation
The device is intended for installation in a deep flush-
mounted box (min. dia.60 mm, depth 65 mm).
 When using multiple WMSSA1UPs, the distance
between the sensors must be at least 0.3m!
 Check that the WMSSA1UP is functioning properly
before final installation.
Strong local transmitter systems (e.g. WLAN) with
transmission frequencies identical to those of the control
may interfere with reception.

Electrical connection
ARNINGW
Only standard push buttons and lines
designed for 230-V operation may be
connected.
Sun shading drives or other power consumers may
not be connected in parallel to the WMSSA1UP on
the push buttons.
Terminal block
Permissible line cross-section 0.5 to 2.5 mm2
Stripping length 5 to 6 mm
Maximum line length for push button 25m
An on-site overload current protection device (fuse) and a
disconnecting and isolating switch to switch off the entire
unit must be provided.
When using a switch, the switch position for tur-
ning on and off can change if radio commands ar-
rive intermittently. Therefore, we recommend using
push buttons.
Several push buttons should not be grouped to-
gether in one multi-pole line.
Local push buttons cannot trigger wireless com-
mands.
All additional information on the electrical connec-
tion can be found in the wiring diagram (see Fig. 2
on page 6 and Fig. 3 on page 6).

 Switch on the mains supply.
 Learn the transmitters and sensors into the
WMSSA1UP
(see also the WMS Practical handbook art. no.
2031186).
The device is then ready for operation.

AUTIONC
When learning in, it is important that you
select the product type of the connected
product. Selection of the wrong product type
can lead to malfunctions and may result in
damage to the connected product.
Once the product type has been selected, it can
no longer be changed directly.
To program a
WMSSA1UP for another product
type, the receiver must be deleted out of the net-
work entirely and learned in again.

Operation via WMS transmitters
Operation via WMS transmitter is described in the operating and installation instructions of the WMS transmitters.
Operation via local push buttons
When the push button is pressed again while the sun shading product is being lowered, it always moves to
100% (lower limit position) and the “Position Down” value is ignored.

Automatic run time detection
The WMSSA1UP has automatic run time detection. This
is active by default and can be deactivated only via WMS
Studio pro.
If the motor current is less than 200mA, automatic run time
detection must be deactivated.
The tilting time is set to 1.6s by default. Changes to the
tilting time are possible only via WMS Studio pro or homee
The run time is set to 90s by default. It is adapted to the
product via the automatic run time detection.
The run time detection is able to automatically detect a run
time from 5s to double the currently set run time. If the
actual run time is longer, the run time has to be adapted
manually via WMS Studio pro or homee. The run time
detection will then function with the set value.
A run time adjustment during initial operation is saved only
when three complete runs have been carried out to their
respective limit positions. The order in which the runs are
carried out is irrelevant. A run must be carried out in one
go and continuously. It must not be interrupted. The run to
position is performed correctly only when the automatic run
time detection has finished.
Automatic run time detection can be restarted by a voltage
reset.
The WMSSA1UP automatically adapts its run time for a
fabric elongation, for example. Therefore, no readjustment
is required.
Sensors
Up to four sensor products (e.g. weather stations or photo
sensors) can be assigned to each WMSSA1UP.
This allocation is described in the WMS Practical handbook
(art. no. 2020426), in the instructions for the sensors
concerned or via the WMS studio pro PC software (see QR
code in chapter „Commissioning“ on page 2).
The WMSSA1UP evaluates the measuring values
of the sensors and responds according to how it is
parameterised.
Heartbeat function
When you switch on an automatic safety control (such
as wind or ice monitoring), the WMSSA1UP checks
whether new measuring values are being received by the
corresponding sensor at regular intervals.
If the WMSSA1UP has not received a measured value
in 24 h, it is assumed the sensor (or the weather station)
has failed (Heartbeat function). The WMSSA1UP moves
the connected product to a safe position. Depending on
the type of sun shading product, operation is limited or
impossible until a new valid value is received. This is a
safety function and not a fault.
Maintenance
There are no parts inside the device that require
maintenance.
Cleaning
Clean the housing with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use
detergents, cleaning agents, solvents, abrasive substances
or steam cleaners!
Liability
The liability for consequential damage to persons or
property is excluded if the device is used for any purpose
other than those described in these instructions. Observe
the information in the operating instructions for your sun
shading system. Liability is also excluded for damage to
the sun shading system resulting from operation under icy
conditions.
Disposal
After use, the device must be disposed of according to
legal regulations or turned in to your local recycling centre.
