When your CFL or LED lamp comes to the end of its life or you choose to update or upgrade it by replacing it, please do not dispose
of it with your normal household waste, please recycle where facilities exist. When you need to dispose of the lamp, check with your
retailer or local authority for suitable options. New regulations require the recycling of Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment

The connection box (model GDL50SS only) must be
fixed above the ground in a position where it will not
be submerged in standing water e.g. on a fence post
or similar. The box is not suitable for burial in soft
ground that may become water-logged.
The fitting (model GDL53) has two mains cable entries
to allow connection of additional wiring for “looping
in” or “daisy chaining”. The second cable entry has a
blind gland fitted that will need to be pierced before
passing cable through. Take care not to make the hole
too large, the gland should be a tight fit around the
cable before tightening.
If the location of your new fitting requires the provision
of a new electrical supply, the supply must conform
with the requirements of the Building Regulations
making reference to the current edition of the IEE
Wiring Regulations (BS7671).
Make connections to the electrical supply in
accordance with the following code:
Live - Brown or Red
Neutral - Blue or Black
Earth - Green and Yellow
When making connections, ensure that the terminals
are tightened securely and that no strands of wire
protrude. Check that the terminals are tightened onto
the bared conductors and not onto any insulation.
This product must be connected to Earth.
It must be possible to remove the fittings after
installation for maintenance or in case of fault
therefore, we recommend that you do not set the
fitting into wet concrete, mortar or similar.
Setting into wet concrete etc can also cause premature
deterioration of the finish as these materials can be
caustic before setting.
You are advised at every stage of your installation to
double-check any electrical connections you have
made. After you have completed your installation there
are electrical tests that should be carried out: these
tests are specified in the Wiring Regulations (BS7671)
referred to in the Building Regulations. If in doubt,
consult a qualified electrician.

Read this first
Check the pack and make sure you have all of the
parts listed on the front of this booklet. If not, contact
the outlet where you bought this product.
This product contains glass, care must be taken when
assembling, fitting or handling to prevent personal
injury or damage to the product.
This light fitting must be installed by a competent
person in accordance with the Building Regulations
making reference to the current edition of the IEE
Wiring Regulations (BS7671). The Building Regulations
may be obtained from HMSO or viewed and
downloaded from www.communities.gov.uk following
the link for Building Regulations.
As the buyer, installer and/or user of this product it is
your own responsibility to ensure that this fitting is fit
for the purpose for which you have intended it. Eterna
Lighting cannot accept any liability for loss, damage or
premature failure resulting from inappropriate use.
If in any doubt, consult a qualified electrician.
Model GDL53 is supplied with a selection of coloured
filters to allow you to be more creative with your
lighting effects. All coloured filters work by preventing
the passage of all colours of light except those that
combine to create the colour of the filter therefore
the total light output of any light fitting with a colour
filter will be reduced in comparison to the same fitting
without any filter.
This product is designed and constructed according to
the principles of the appropriate British Standard and
is intended for normal domestic service. Use of this
fitting in any other environment, for example where
prolonged periods of use may be expected and/or
higher than normal ambient temperatures, may result
in a foreshortened working life.
The British Standard for recessed Ground/Deck lights
stipulates that fittings in which temperatures are
generated that could cause injury are located out of
reach. Use of different lamp types will generate more
or less heat and so determine where it would be
appropriate to install your fitting:
• 50W GU10 Halogen Lamp
High temperatures may be generated and so if this
lamp is to be used, the fitting should be installed out
of normal reach. (T>100°C)
• 9W GU10 CFL (compact fluorescent)
Much lower temperatures are generated and so if
this lamp is used, the fitting can be installed in most
locations. The fitting may be installed where contact
with parts having a temperature up to 65°C will not
cause injury, for example: a fitting with this lamp
might not be suitable for use in a nursery. (T<65°C)
• LED Low Power GU10 Lamps
Where low power LED cluster lamps are used for
effect rather than illumination, it is possible that
no significant temperature rise would occur in use
and so the fitting could be installed in almost any
location, including those such as nurseries, where
the temperature of the accessible parts of the fitting
should be limited to 40°C. As the installer and/or
user of this fitting you will need to make your own
assessment based on the lamp you intend to use,
the environment into which the fitting is to be
installed and the risk of the wrong lamp being fitted
as a replacement in future. The performance of this
fitting in the most sensitive locations cannot be
guaranteed because of the contributory effects of the
environment, use and lamp. (T<40°C)
The lamp (if) supplied with this fitting is a consumable
part and therefore may be outside of any warranty
offered.
Switch off the mains before commencing installation
and remove the appropriate circuit fuse.
Suitable for outdoor use.
This product is suitable for installation on surfaces with
normal flammability (indicated by the “F” in a triangle)
e.g. wood, plasterboard, masonry. It is not suitable for
use on highly flammable surfaces (e.g. polystyrene,
textiles).
Before making fixing hole(s), check that there are no
obstructions hidden beneath the mounting surface
such as pipes or cables.
