Intended use

The CTEL master module described in this description has

been designed exclusively for use in combination with CPX

terminals from Festo.

The CTEL master module provides 4 I-port interfaces to the

outside, on each of which a device with I-port interface can be

connected (see section 1.2).

The individual I-port devices are documented in specific de-

scriptions. The safety instructions listed there must always be

observed and the device must only be used as intended.

The CPX terminal and the connected CTEL master module

maybeusedonlyasfollows:

– as intended in an industrial environment.

– in its original status, without unauthorised modifications.

Only the conversions or modifications described in the

documentation supplied with the product are permitted.

– in excellent technical condition.

If used together with additional commercially available com-

ponents, such as sensors and actuators, the specified limits

for pressures, temperatures, electrical data, torques etc.

must be observed.

Observe the regulations of the trade associations, German

Technical Control Board (TÜV), VDE stipulations or corres-

ponding national laws and regulations.

Target group

This description is intended exclusively for technicians

trained in control and automation technology, who have ex-

perience in installation, commissioning, programming and

diagnostics of programmable logic controllers (PLC) and field-

bus systems.

This description contains specific information on the mode of

operation, mounting, installation and commissioning the

FestoCTELmastermodule.

A list of other descriptions on the components of the CPX or

CTEL system as well as an overview of the structure of the

CPX terminal user documentation can be found in the CPX

system description.

List of abbreviations

The following product-specific terms and abbreviations are

used in this manual:

Term/abbreviation Significance

CPX modules Collective term for the various modules which can be integrated into a CPX

terminal.

CPX system Totality of the software of all CPX modules of a CPX terminal.

CPX terminal Totality of the combined CPX modules, including a fieldbus master, without

pneumatics.

Device Any module that can be connected to the CTEL master module via the

I-port interface.

Fieldbus nodes Provide the connection to specific fieldbuses. Communicate with connec-

ted I/O modules and monitor their ability to function.

FMT Festo Maintenance Tool. PC software for commissioning, configuration and

extended diagnostics of CPX terminals.

IDigital input

I-module Input module

IO-Link Protected designation for a point-to-point network system for connection

of sensors and actuators to an automation system.

I/O length Number of bytes available for inputs and outputs.

I/O mode Operation of the CTEL master module, either as a pure input module, a

pure output module or in mixed operation.

I/O modules Collective term for the modules which provide digital inputs and outputs

(e.g. CPX I/O modules, I-port input and I-port output modules).

I-port Interface for the connection between master module and device.

LSB Least significant bit/byte (bit/byte with the lowest value).

MMI Multi-Media Interface, Handheld for reading and configuring CPX systems.

MSB Most significant bit/byte (bit/byte with the highest value).

SCS Short circuit in the power supply of the system.

Slave module See device

Tool change mode The I/O lengths of the CTEL master module are manually configured (auto-

matic configuration).
