Designated use
The field bus node type CPX−FB23 described in this manual
has been designed for use as a slave on the field bus system
Control & Communication Link (CC−Link) from Mitsubishi.
The CPX terminal may only be used as follows:
asintended in industrial installations.
 without any modifications by the user
Only the conversions or modifications described in the
documentation supplied with the product are permitted.
infaultless technical condition.
The maximum values specified for pressures, temperatures,
electrical data, torques, etc. must not be exceeded.
Observe also the standards specified in the relevant chapters,
as well as national and local laws and technical regulations.
Target group
This manual is intended exclusively for technicians trained in
control and automation technology who have experience in
installing, commissioning, programming and diagnosing
slaves on the field bus CC−Link.

Please consult your local Festo repair service if you have any
technical problems.

Notes on the use of this manual
Please note
This manual refers to CPX field bus node type CPX−FB23 as
from software version 6.10 and hardware version 1.0.
This manual contains specific information on installing, com
missioning, programming and diagnosing with the CPX field
bus node for CC−Link.
General information on the field bus CC−Link can be found in
the documentation for your CC−Link master and the relevant
control systems (e.g. from Mitsubishi).
An overview can be found under www.cc−link.org.
General basic information on the functioning, fitting, installa
tion and commissioning of CPX terminals can be found in the
CPX system manual.
Information on further CPX modules can be found in the man
ual for the relevant module.

The following product−specific terms and abbreviations are
used in this manual:

AI Analogue input (input channel, 16 bits)
AO Analogue output (output channel, 16 bits)
CP Compact Performance
CPA Pneumatic modules/valve terminal type 12
CPX bus Data bus via which the CPX modules communicate with each other and
are supplied with the necessary operating voltage.
CPX modules Common term for the various modules which can be incorporated in a
CPXterminal
CPX terminal Modular, electric terminal type 50
Data The CPX terminal provides settings and diagnostic information in the form
of data. Data can be read but not modified.
DIL switches Dual−in−line switches usually consist of several switch elements with
which settings can be made.
I Digital input
I/O diagnostic interface The I/O diagnostic interface is a bus−independent diagnostic interface at
I/O level which enables access to internal data of the CPX terminal.
I/O modules Common term for the CPX modules which provide digital inputs and
outputs (CPX input modules and CPX output modules).

Term/abbreviation Meaning
Field bus node Provides the connection to certain field buses. Transmits control signals
to the connected modules and monitors their functioning.
Midi/Maxi Pneumatic modules/valve terminal type 03
Parameters By means of parametrizing, the reaction of the CPX terminal or the reac
tion of individual modules and I/O channels can be adapted to suit the
individual application. Parameters can be read and modified.
Pneumatic interface The pneumatic interface is the interface between the modular electrical
peripherals and the pneumatics.
PLC/IPC Programmable logic controller/industrial PC
Status bits Internal inputs which supply coded common diagnostic messages.

CC−Link Field bus system Control & Communication Link from Mitsubishi
RWr / RWw Input and output words (16 bits) in the word range of the CC−Link
memory mapping (Register word read / Register word write).
RX / RY Input and output words bits in the bit range of the CC−Link memory
mapping.

Information on installing the I/O modules and the pneumatic
interface can be found in the manual for the CPX I/O modules
(P.BE−CPX−EA−..).
Instructions on installing the pneumatics can be found in the
relevant pneumatics manual.

1.1 General instructions on installation
Warning
Sudden unexpected movements of the connected actua
tors and uncontrollable movements of loose tubing can
cause injury to human beings and damage to property.
Before carrying out installation and/or maintenance work,
switch off the following:
 the compressed air supply
 the operating and load voltage supplies.
Caution
The CPX field bus node may be damaged if they are not
handled correctly.
·Observe the regulations for handling electrostatically
sensitive components.
·Discharge yourself of static electricity before fitting or
removing the modules in order to protect the modules
against static discharges.

Dismantling and fitting
The field bus node is fitted in a manifold sub−base of the CPX
terminal (see Fig.1/2).
Dismantling Dismantle the field bus node as follows:
1. Loosen the four screws of the field bus node with a Torx
screwdriver size T10.
2. Pull the field bus node carefully and without tilting away
from the contact rails of the manifold sub−base.

Fitting Fit the field bus node as follows:
1. Place the field bus node in the manifold sub−base. Make
sure that the grooves with the terminals for electrical con
tact on the bottom of the field bus node lie directly above
the contact rails. Press the field bus node carefully and
without tilting as far as possible into the manifold sub−
base.
2. Tighten the screws only by hand. Insert the screws so that
the self−boring threads can be used.
Tighten the screws with a Torx screwdriver size T10 with
0.9 ... 1.1 Nm.
