Designated use
The field bus node type CPX-FB6 described in this manual has
been designed exclusively for use as a slave on the Interbus.
The CPX terminal may only be used as follows:
– in accordance with designated use
– in its original state
– without any modifications by the user
– in faultless technical condition.
– The maximum values specified for pressures, tempera-
tures, electrical data, torques etc. must be observed.
Please comply with national and local safety laws and regula-
tions.
Target group
This manual is intended exclusively for technicians trained in
control and automation technology, who have experience in
installing, commissioning, programming and diagnosing
slaves on the Interbus.
Service
Please consult your local Festo service centre if you have any
technical problems.

Please note
This manual refers to CPX field bus node type CPX-FB6 as
from software version 1.4 and hardware version 06/01.
This manual contains special information on installing, com-
missioning, programming and diagnosing with the CPX field
bus node for Interbus.
General basic information on the method of operation, on
fitting, installing and commissioning CPX terminals can be
found in the CPX system manual.
Information on further CPX modules can be found in the man-
ual for the relevant module. The table below gives an over-
view.

The following product-specific terms and abbreviations are
used in this manual:
Term/abbreviation Meaning
CP Compact Performance
CPA Pneumatic modules/valve terminal type 12
CPX bus Data bus via which the CPX modules communicate with each other and
via which they are supplied with the required operating voltage.
CPX modules Common term for the various modules which can be incorporated in a CPX
terminal.
CPX terminal Modular electric terminal type 50
DIL switches Dual-in-line switches consist of several switch elements with which
settings can be made.
Field bus node Provides the connection to specific field buses. Transmits control signals
to the connected modules and monitors their ability to function.
IDigital input
I/O diagnostic interface The I/O diagnostic interface is a bus-independent diagnostic interface at
I/O level which permits access to internal data of the CPX terminal.
I/O modules Common term for the CPX modules which provide digital inputs and out-
puts (CPX input modules and CPX output modules).
I/Os Digital inputs and outputs
Midi/Maxi Pneumatic modules/valve terminal type 03
ODigital output
PLC/IPC Programmable logic controller/industrial PC
Pneumatic interface The pneumatic interface is the interface between the modular electric
periphery and the pneumatics.
Status bits Internal inputs which supply coded common diagnostic messages.

The following Interbus-specific terms and abbreviations are
used in this manual:
Term/abbreviation Meaning
CMD software Parametrizing, commissioning and diagnostic software for slaves on the
Interbus (configuration, monitoring, diagnosis).
ID code The Interbus module ascertains the type and the processing data length
of all the slaves with the aid of the Ident. code (ID code).
Interbus module TheInterbusmoduleisthecentraldeviceforcontrollingtheInterbusdata
ring. It exchanges the serially transported data in the data ring with the
higher-order control system or computer system and the lower-order
Interbus slaves in both directions acyclically or cyclically.
Parameter data Data for parametrizing, diagnosing and configuring, which are transmitted
acyclically in multiplex procedure via the PCP channel.
PCP channel Slaves which can also process parameter data are also designated PCP
slaves. Communication between these slaves and the Interbus module is
made via the peripheral communication protocol (PCP or PCP channel).
PCP is an integral part of the Interbus protocol.
Periphery fault (PF) Faults in the periphery of Interbus slaves are registered with the periphery
fault (depending on slave), e.g.:
– failure of operating or load voltages
– shortcircuitattheoutputs,etc.
The periphery fault is a common error message and does not contain any
module-specific information.
Processing data I/O data of the Interbus slaves which is transmitted cyclically via the
Interbus, e.g. for:
– Light barriers, sensors
–Valves,contactors
–DiagnosticI/Os
Remote bus The remote bus bridges the long distances within an Interbus system
(main string). With a baud rate of 500 kBd, it can be up to 12.8 km long
(from the Interbus module to the last connected remote bus slave). Indi-
vidual segments can be up to 400 m long.

Information on installing the I/O modules and the pneumatic
interfaces can be found in the manual for the CPX I/O mod-
ules (P.BE-CPX-EA-..).
Instructions on installing the pneumatic components can be
found in the relevant pneumatics manual.

1.1 General instructions on installation
Warning
Before carrying out installation and maintenance work,
switch off the following:
•the compressed air supply
•the operating voltage supply for the electronics/sensors
•the load voltage supply for the outputs and valves.
You can thereby avoid:
– uncontrolled movements of loose tubing
– unexpected movements of the connected actuators
– non-defined switching states of the electronic compo-
nents.
Caution
The CPX field bus node contains electrostatically sensitive
components.
•Do not therefore touch any contacts.
•Observe the regulations for handling electrostatically
sensitive components.
You will then prevent the electronics from being damaged.

Fitting and removing
The field bus node is fitted in a manifold sub-base of the CPX
terminal (see Fig. 1/2).
Removing Remove the field bus node as follows:
1. Loosen the 4 screws in the field bus node with a Torx
screwdriver size T10.
2. Pull the field bus node carefully and without tilting away
from the contact rails of the manifold sub-base.
