PostBase Vision

1 For your safety
The PostBase Vision complies with the relevant safety regulations for information
technology equipment in office environments.
Before setting up and installing and using the PostBase Vision mailing system,
please read this safety information carefully.
For your own safety, please observe the following instructions:
Proper use
• PostBase Vision is a digital mailing system with ink-jet print technology for
metering mail.
• The PostBase Vision mailing system is intended only for use in enclosed offices or
office-like environments. Observe the operating conditions specified in the “Tech-
nical Data” section.
• The PostBase Vision mailing system is intended exclusively for processing mail
pieces in accordance with the specifications described in the “Technical Data” section.
Prevention of electrical hazards
• Operate the PostBase Vision mailing system only with a grounded single-phase
power outlet. Make sure that the power connection conforms to the power require-
ments indicated on the type plates.
• Make sure the outlets for connecting the PostBase Vision mailing system are close
by and easily accessible at all times.
• Unplug the PostBase Vision mailing system power plugs from the outlets in case
of an emergency.
• Take care to ensure that no foreign objects penetrate the PostBase Vision mailing
system interior.
• Be extremely careful when handling fluids.
• When refilling the sealing fluid, make sure that no moving parts or electronics
become wet.
• Unplug all power plugs of the PostBase Vision mailing system prior to cleaning the
mailing system.
Prevention of mechanical hazards
• Keep long hair, fingers, loose clothing pieces, neck ties, scarves, jewelry and the
like away from moving machine parts.
• Do not remove any parts of the housing.
• Do not remove any equipment related to safety or protection. Do not make them
inoperative or unable to function.

For your safety 9
Accessories and consumables
• We recommend to use only approved FP equipment and FP original parts. The
manufacturer FP has established reliability, safety and applicability. The manufac-
turer cannot assess the reliability, safety and applicability for products not approved
by FP, and therefore not vouch for such products.
Full functionality of the PostBase Vision mailing system is only guaranteed at the
time of delivery if genuine FP ink cartridges are used.
• Use the supplied power and connection cables or cables that have been approved
by FP. Make sure that the cables are not damaged.
• When handling ink cartridges, observe the hazardous substance labeling and the
product information enclosed with each package.
Avoid eye contact with the ink. Ingestion of the ink can be harmful to health.
Keep ink cartridges away from children. Detailed information can be found on the
Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), which can be found at sdb.francotyp.com/en.
• The ink cartridge may be equipped with a clip as transportation protection, depending
on the model. Remove the clip before inserting the cartridge. Dispose of the clip.
Never put the clip back on the cartridge in order to prevent damage to the print
nozzle plate, which can cause short circuits, overheating and melting of components.
General safety instructions
• Set up and install the PostBase Vision mailing system as described in the
“Installation and commissioning” section.
• Never transport the PostBase Vision mailing system by attachments such as weigh-
ing platform, label compartment, display or drawer. The best way to transport the indi-
vidual components is to hold them on the side at the bottom in the recesses on the
housing.
• If the mailing system was previously in a cold environment (i.e. below 50 °F / 10 °C):
Unpack the mailing system and wait at least two hours before setup and installation
of the PostBase Vision mailing system. The PostBase Vision needs this time to
adapt to the environmental conditions allowing any condensed moisture to escape.
• The “PostBase Vision Feeder” is designed for operation on the PostBase Vision
postage meter. The Feeder cannot be operated without being connected to the
PostBase Vision postage meter base.
• If the mailing system develops strong odours, fumes or unusual noises, immedi-
ately unplug the power plugs from the outlets.
• Only have maintenance and repair work carried out by qualified personnel
approved by FP. Otherwise any warranty claims may become void.
• Note: When a letter is fed, letter transport will start automatically after a short delay.

2 PostBase Vision mailing system – Short profile
2.1 Things worth knowing about the PostBase Vision
PostBase Vision is the perfect mailing solution for small to
mid-sized volumes. Easy to use and intuitive with a large,
motorized tilting 5" color touchscreen.
Modular design The modular design is flexible and can be easily upgraded
via software attributes or hardware add-ons. The basic
model consists of the PostBase Vision postage meter with
built-in scale, hand feed tray and a catch tray.
The basic model can easily be upgraded, e.g. add the auto-
matic feeder with sealer or an external 70 lb. capacity scale.
The PostBase Vision mailing system offers several configu-
rations with various feeders with speeds ranging from 35 to
90 letters per minute.
Intuitive operation After turning on with the touch of a button, the home screen
is displayed with an intuitive layout and design to make mail
processing easy. PostBase Vision also displays on-screen
guidance for certain functions such as changing the ink car-
tridge. With this operating concept, even inexperienced and
occasional users can easily operate the PostBase Vision
mailing system.
Metering To meter, simply place the letter on it – the PostBase Vision
will seize the letter and meter it, after which it is exited to the
right side ready for dispatch.
Metering is possible on mail pieces made of ink-absorbing
material – postcards to envelopes up to 10" × 14" and with
maximum thickness of 0.4" – and special self-adhesive labels.
Letters as
advertising medium
In addition to printing postage, you can print two custom
advertisements of your choice on every mail piece you
send. These can be graphical advertisements or logos,
printed text messages or QR codes.
Adding postage Adding postage is easy by downloading it directly from FP’s
teledata center. A low postage warning can be set and the
postage available is always displayed prominently on the
home screen.
