GETTING STARTED/INSTALLATION
Thank you for purchasing Hunter Douglas Vignette®Modern Roman Shades with PowerView®
Motorization. With proper installation, operation, and care, your new shades will provide years of
beauty and performance.
Please thoroughly review this instruction booklet and the enclosed packing list before beginning
the installation. For information regarding operation and programming, refer to the guide
included with your remote control.
Tools and Fasteners Needed
■Flat blade and Phillips screwdrivers
■Level (laser level is recommended)
■Measuring tape and pencil
■Power drill,

/ 32 " drill bit, and

/ 4 " hex driver
In addition, you will need fasteners designed to work with your specific mounting surface(s).
■#6 Hex Head Screws (Provided). Two 1

/ 2 " screws are provided per installation bracket.
■Longer Hex Head Screws (Not Provided). If using spacer blocks, use #6 screws long
enough for a secure attachment.
■Speed Nuts and Screws (Provided). If using extension brackets for additional clearance or
for end mounting your shades, the brackets are provided with screws and speed nuts.
■Drywall Anchors (Not Provided). Use drywall anchors when mounting into drywall.

STEP 1 — Mount the Installation Brackets
■Your order includes the correct number of installation brackets for your shade width,
as shown in the table.
IMPORTANT: A
1
/ 2 " spacer block is required for shades
using the battery wand. It is pre-attached to the back of
the installation bracket.
■Should the spacer block become detached, reattach it.
➤Insert the legs of the installation bracket into the tabs
on the spacer block.
➤Rotate the installation bracket back, as shown.
■Two-On-One Headrail Shades. The appropriate number of installation brackets are
provided for each panel.
Mounting Types and Window Terminology
If the installation brackets are mounted correctly, the rest of the installation process follows
easily. To prepare for this important first step, review the mounting types and basic window
terminology illustrated below.

Mount the Installation Brackets — Inside Mount
■Mark 2" in from each jamb for bracket location.
➤If more than two installation brackets came with your order, space additional bracket(s)
evenly between the two end brackets. Mount into wood whenever possible.
➤Allow a minimum of 15" between bracket center lines (motor side) for the battery wand.
■Two-On-One Headrail shades :Place installation brackets 2" on each side of the panel split.
■Center the brackets on your marks and
mark the location of the screw holes.
➤Allow

for rear fold clearance. (This also
provides battery wand clearance.)

Mount the Installation Brackets — Outside Mount
IMPORTANT: Spacer blocks are recommended for the
3
/ 4 " rear fabric fold clearance or with
shades using a battery wand (see spacer block attachment on the following page).
■Center the headrail over the window opening at the desired height. Use a pencil to lightly
mark the mounting surface at each end of the headrail.
➤Alternatively, measure the width of the headrail and use that width to mark the headrail
end points over the window opening.
■Mark 2" from each end of the headrail.
➤If more than two installation brackets came with your order, space them evenly between
the two end brackets and mark their location. Mount into wood whenever possible.
➤Allow a minimum of 15" between bracket center lines (motor side) for the battery wand.
■Two-On-One Headrail shades :Place installation brackets 2" on each side of the panel split.
■Center the brackets on your marks, then mark each of the screw holes.
➤A minimum 1" flat vertical surface is required to mount the brackets.
➤The top of the installation brackets or extension brackets should be at the desired shade
height. The brackets must be level and aligned.
➤When using extension brackets, mark two screw holes per bracket.
CAUTION: The rear of the brackets must be flush against a flat mounting surface. Do not
mount brackets on curved molding. Shim (not provided) the brackets if necessary.

Mount the Installation Brackets — EndMount
End mount the headrail when conventional mounting techniques will not work — for example,
in an arched window.
■Mount the extension brackets on a flat vertical surface at least 1

/ 2 " wide.
NOTE: Minimum mounting depth for a fully
recessed end mount is 2

/ 4 " wide.
➤The top of the extension brackets should be at
the desired shade height.
IMPORTANT: The brackets must be level
and aligned.
➤Be sure to allow for the

/ 4 " rear fabric
fold clearance.
CAUTION: The rear of the extension brackets
must be flush against a flat mounting surface. Do
not mount the extension brackets onthe curve of
the arch opening.
■Mark two screw holes per bracket.
■Attach the extension brackets using the screws provided.
IMPORTANT: Use a level to check that the mounting surface is level.
■Attach the installation brackets to the underside of the extension brackets using the
provided screws and speed nuts.
CAUTION: Both brackets must be installed at the same depth and height.

STEP 2 — Install the Shade
If You Have a Battery Wand Clip...
■Attach the battery wand clip to the headrail.
IMPORTANT: Position the clip so that the battery wand will be between installation brackets.
A minimum of 15" is needed between the brackets to accommodate the battery wand.
➤Step 1: Hook the battery wand clip onto the back channel of the headrail.
➤Step 2: Rotate the clip down until it snaps into place.
CAUTION: Be sure the power cable does not become pinched by the brackets or headrail
during installation; damage or overheating of components could result.
CAUTION: Do not connect the battery wand to the power cable prior to installing the shade.

Mount the Headrail
■Peel back the top edge of the protective covering from the top of the headrail. Leave the rest
of the protective covering on the front of the headrail.
■Lower the fabric 6" before installing the shade.
IMPORTANT: To avoid damage to the fabric, make sure the fabric is not caught between
the headrail and the installation bracket.
■Hold the headrail so that the front faces you.
■Step 1: Slide the front of the installation
bracket under the front channel of the
headrail.
■Step 2: Rotate the headrail and push
back toward the window until you hear
an audible click. The click indicates that
the back edge of the headrail is securely
seated into the bracket.
WARNING: Failure to snap the
headrail securely into the installation
brackets may cause the shade to
release unexpectedly.
■Step 3: Pull on the front of the
headrail at each bracket to ensure
that the headrail is locked into the
brackets.
■Remove the protective covering
from the headrail.

STEP 3 — Connect the Power Source
NOTE: When power is connected to the motor, a green LED inside the programming button
housing will flash to indicate the shade is ready for operation.
■Refer to the appropriate page below based on your order.
➤For a battery wand, see below.
➤For a satellite battery pack, see page 11.
➤For an optional 18V DC power supply, see page12.
➤For an optional 18V DC power supply with daisy-chain connections, see page13.
➤For an optional C-size satellite battery wand or large DC power supply, see the
instructions that came with the unit.
Mount the Battery Wand into theBattery Wand Clips
■Align the battery wand with its socket toward the motor end on the shade.
■Push the battery wand straight up into the battery wand clips until it snaps into place. Check
to make sure the battery wand is secure.
CAUTION: Be sure the cable does not become pinched by the installation bracket or
battery wand clip. Damage or overheating of components could result.
Plug the Power Cable into the Battery Wand
■From the back of the shade headrail, connect the
power cable (from the motor side) into the socket on
the battery wand.
■Two-On-One Headrail shades :Plug in both cables to
the battery wands.

Check the Power Cord
■Check to ensure the power cord is not visible from the front of the shade.
➤If it is visible, adhere the wire saddle on the power cord to the back of the shade.
If you ordered Magnetic Hold-Down Brackets, proceed to “Attach Magnetic Hold-Down
Brackets (Optional)” on page14; otherwise proceed to “Testing the Shade” on page15.
If You Have a Satellite Battery Pack...
Mount the Satellite Battery Pack
■Decide where you want to attach the wall mount bracket. A satellite battery pack may be
installed in any orientation.
■Pre-drill the screw holes using a
3
/ 32 " drill bit.
■Remove the backing from the double-sided tape on the
wall mount bracket. Press the bracket into place.
■Attach the bracket using the screws provided.
■Position the battery wand so the power cable is easily connected to the socket.
■Snap the wand into the wall mount bracket.

■Install the cover with the slot aligned to the socket in the battery wand.
■Plug the power cable from the shade into the
extension cable.
■Plug the other end of the extension cable into
the socket in the battery wand.
■Two-On-One Headrail shades :Plug both power cables into the extension cables and then
plug both extension cables into the sockets in the battery wands.
If you ordered Magnetic Hold-Down Brackets, proceed to “Attach Magnetic Hold-Down
Brackets (Optional)” on page14; otherwise proceed to “Testing the Shade” on page15.
If You Have an 18V DC Power Supply...
Connect the Power Supply
■Plug the power cable from the shade into
the extension cable.
■Plug the other end of the extension cable
into the 18V DC power supply.
■Plug the 18V DC power supply into a
standard outlet.
■Secure the extension cable using wire
retainers (not supplied). If hiding the cable
behind the shade, make sure it does not
interfere with the operation of theshade.
■Space the wire retainers approximately
15" apart along the power supply cable,
as shown.

WARNING: Keep cords and small parts out of the reach of children. They can wrap
cords around their necks and STRANGLE.They can also put small parts in their
mouths and CHOKE.
WARNING: Electric shock and/or a fire hazard may occur if the 18V DC power
supply and cables are not properly installed.
If you ordered Magnetic Hold-Down Brackets, proceed to “Attach Magnetic Hold-Down
Brackets (Optional)” on page14; otherwise proceed to “Testing the Shade” on page15.
If You Have an 18V DC Power Supply with Daisy-Chain Connections...
The daisy-chain feature allows up to three PowerView®motorized shades to be powered by a
single 18V DC power supply. However, each shade has its own RF receiver and can operate
independently. The daisy-chain feature is only available with the 18V DC power supply option.
■With two shades, route the power cables from each shade to the “Y” connector, using an
extension cable if necessary.
■Plug an extension cable into the connector and the 18V DC power supply. A two-shade
configuration is shown below.
■With three shades, an additional “Y” connector and additional extension cables are used.
Two-On-One Headrail Shades
■Route the power cables from each side of the shade to the connector. Use extension cables,
if necessary.
■Plug the extension cables or power cables into the connector and plug the cable into the
18V DC power supply.
If you ordered Magnetic Hold-Down Brackets, proceed to “Attach Magnetic Hold-Down
Brackets (Optional)” on page14; otherwise proceed to “Testing the Shade” on page15.

Attach Magnetic Hold-Down Brackets (Optional)
■Completely lower the shade.
■Attach the magnetic hold-down bracket onto the
bottom rail just inside the end cap, oriented as shown.
■Mark the screw locations using one of the mounting
options shown below.
➤The screw should be placed in the middle of the
channel. This will allow for adjustment.
■Pre-drill the screw holes using a 3/32" drill bit.
■Attach the hold-down brackets to the mounting surface using
the screws provided.
■If necessary, adjust the bracket height by loosening the screw
and sliding the bracket up and down.

Testing the Shade
Check the Power Cord
■Check the headrail to ensure the cord is not visible.
Test the Shade Using the Programming Button
Testing the shade with the programming button will allow you to ensure that the motor and
power source are workingcorrectly.
■Press the programming button on the motor side end
cap to test operation. If the shade does not operate,
see “Troubleshooting” on page18.
➤Press the programming button to alternately lower,
stop, and raise the shade.
➤Two-On-One Headrail Shades have two motors. The right motor operates the right
shade and the left motor operates the left shade. Use the programming buttons on each
side to test the two shades individually.
Using the PowerView®Remote
Refer to the illustration below to familiarize yourself with the controls on the remote. Activate the
remote by pulling both plastic tabs from the back battery compartment.
IMPORTANT: If you have more than one remote, see “Adding Additional Remote(s) to the
PowerView®Shade Network” in the PowerView Motorization Remote Control Guide.

Joining a Shade to a Group
IMPORTANT: The shade will not operate using the remote until it has been joined to a group.
1. Press and hold ■ STOP on the remote until the indicator lights blink (approximately 6
seconds). The remote is now in program mode.
2. Press the desired group number (1 – 6) on the remote. The backlit group number will flash to
show it is selected.
3. While pressing the programming button on the shade, press ▲OPEN on the remote. The
shade will move slightly to indicate it has joined the group. Release the programming button.
4. Press and hold ■ STOP on the remote until the indicator lights stop blinking (approximately 6
seconds).
Basic Operation
■To wake up the remote, simply pick it up or press ■STOP. The last group(s) selected will be
highlighted and active.
■Press “all” or groups 1 – 6 to select specific shade(s) to move. Selected group button(s) will
light to show they are selected.
➤Multiple group buttons may be selected at a time.
➤To deselect a group, press the group button again. The backlight for that group button
will go out.
■Press ▼CLOSE to lower the selected shade(s).
■Press ▲OPEN to raise the selected shade(s).
■Press ■STOP to stop shade movement anywhere along its travel.
■While a shade is in motion, press the opposite of shade motion (▲OPEN or ▼CLOSE) to
reverse direction and move to fully open or closed.
■Press ♥FAVORITE to send selected shade(s) to your preset “favorite” position. Refer to
the PowerView®Motorization Remote Control Guide on how to set a favorite position. The
default favorite position is the shade at 50% open.
Top-Down/Bottom-Up Operation
■Press ▼CLOSE to lower the bottom rail, closing the shade.
■Press the left arrow to lower the bottom and middle rails, opening the shade top-down.
■Press the right arrow to raise the middle rail, closing the shade.
■Press ▲OPEN to raise the bottom and middle rails, opening the shade bottom-up.
■Press ■STOP to stop shade movement anywhere along the shade’s travel.

Resetting the Shade (If Necessary)
Basic Reset
The basic reset is used to reset the shade’s travel limits.
Bottom-Up shades:
1. Press and hold the programming button for approximately 6 seconds. The shade will move
slightly. Release the programming button.
2. The shade will raise to its fully open position to set the upper travel limit, then lower to the
fully closed position to set the lower travel limit. The shade will move slightly one more time to
indicate that the travel limits have been reset.
Top-Down/Bottom-Up shades:
1. Press and hold the programming button for approximately 6 seconds. The shade will move
slightly. Release the programming button.
2. The middle rail will raise to the top, followed by the bottom rail, opening the shade bottom-
up to set the upper travel limits. The bottom rail will then lower, followed by the middle rail,
opening the shade top-down to set the lower travel limits. The shade will move slightly one
more time to indicate that the travel limits have been reset.

Resetting Shade Programming
The programming reset erases all shade programming from memory, including group
assignments, preventing input devices from operating the shade. The primary use is to correct
group and network assignments during installation. The reset does not affect travel limits or the
favorite position.
1. Press and hold the programming button for approximately 12 seconds. The shade will move
slightly after 6 seconds, then again after 12 seconds. Release the programming button (the light
flashes red). The light then flashes a series of green and red to indicate that shade programming
is erased from memory.
2. Refer to “Joining a Shade to a Group” on page 16 to program the shade to a group.
Problem The shade will not snap into the installation brackets.
Solution If the shade has a battery wand, check that the wand is not interfering with the
installation brackets.
Check that the installation brackets are level and aligned. Adjust and/or shim to
level, if necessary.
Be sure the heads of the screws are flush against the installationbracket.
Make sure the shade fabric is not caught between the installation bracket and
the headrail.
Check that the headrail is completely inserted into the installation brackets. See
“STEP 2 — Install the Shade” on page8.

■Refer to the following troubleshooting for specific solutions for your shade.
