GETTING STARTED
Thank you for purchasing Hunter Douglas Sonnette®Cellular Roller Shades with PowerView®
Gen 3 Automation. With proper installation, operation, and care, your new shades will provide
years of beauty and performance.
Please thoroughly review this instruction booklet and the enclosed packing list before
beginning the installation.
Tools and Fasteners Needed

long enough for a secure attachment.
■ Speed Nuts and Screws (Provided). Extension brackets come with screws and
speed nuts.
■ Rechargeable Battery Wand Spacer Block Kit (Provided with headrail-mounted
rechargeable battery wand option for inside and outside mounts). Spacer block kit
includes two #8 2

Installation Overview
To install your shade, you will need to perform the following four steps:
STEP 1: Mount the Installation Brackets
STEP 2: Attach the Rechargeable Battery Mount to the Headrail, If Applicable
STEP 3: Install the Shade
STEP 4: Connect the Power Source
Step 1: Mount the Installation Brackets
■ Your order will include the correct number of installation
brackets for your shade width, as shown in the table.
NOTE: Shades with a headrail-mounted rechargeable
battery wand utilize XL brackets.
NOTE: Non-kickback shades 84" in width or length will utilize XL brackets. Kickback
shades that exceed 84" in width or 78" in height will use XL brackets. These larger shades
will require spacer blocks and XL brackets if using rechargeable batteries.
➤ Shade orders may also include spacer blocks or extension brackets, if they were
specified for added clearance.
Mounting Types and Window Terminology
If the installation brackets are mounted correctly, the rest of the installation process follows
easily. To prepare for this important first step, review the mounting types and basic window
terminology illustrated below.

Mount the Installation Brackets — Inside Mount
Prepare the Installation Brackets
■ Use pliers or heavy duty scissors to remove the top
tabs on the installation brackets.
NOTE: Save these tabs once removed. They may be
used as shims, if necessary.
Mount the Installation Brackets
■ Mark 2" to 3" from each jamb for bracket location.
➤ If more than two installation brackets came with your order, space additional bracket(s)
evenly between the two end brackets and mark their location. Allow a minimum
of 18" between the brackets on the motor end for the rechargeable battery
wand. Mount into wood whenever possible.
NOTE: Before the headrail is installed, the bracket levers need to be fully to the left, and
once the headrail is properly in place, levers automatically click to the right.
■ Center the brackets on your marks and mark the location of the screw holes.
➤ The depth required for fully recessed mounting will vary depending on the shade size
and power option. Refer to the chart below for depth.
■ Use a level to check that the
mounting surface is level. Shim
the brackets, if necessary (use the
top tab that was removed from the
brackets.)
■ Drill the screw holes using a

⁄ 32 " drill bit.

■ Attach the installation brackets using the screws provided.
IMPORTANT: Do not overtighten the screws. Check to
ensure the bracket lever can be moved easily side to side. If
not, loosen the screws in one-eighth turn increments until the
lever can be moved easily.
IMPORTANT: The front edges of the installation brackets
must be level and aligned to eachother.
Proceed to “STEP 2: Attach Rechargeable Battery Mount to Headrail (If
Applicable)” on page 8.
Mount the Installation Brackets — Outside Mount
Prepare the Installation Brackets
■ Use pliers or heavy duty scissors to remove the top
tabs on the installation brackets.
NOTE: Save these tabs once removed. They may be
used as shims, if necessary.
Mount the Installation Brackets
■ Center the headrail over the window opening at the desired height. Use a pencil to lightly
mark the mounting surface at each end of the headrail.
➤ Alternatively, measure the width of the headrail and use that width to mark the
headrail end points over the window opening.
■ Mark 2" to 3" from each end of theheadrail.
➤ If more than two installation brackets came with your order, space additional bracket(s)
evenly between the two end brackets and mark their location. Allow a minimum
of 18" between the brackets on the motor end for the rechargeable battery
wand. Mount into wood whenever possible.
NOTE: Before the headrail is installed, the bracket levers need to be fully to the left, and
once the headrail is properly in place, levers automatically click to the right.
■ Center the installation brackets or extension brackets on your marks and mark where to
drill the screw holes.

CAUTION: The rear of the brackets must be flush against a flat mounting surface. Do not
mount brackets on curved molding.

■ If using spacer blocks, attach the spacer block(s) and
installation bracket to a flat vertical mounting
surface with #6screws long enough for a
secure installation.
NOTE: The spacer blocks for the rechargeable
battery wand come with #8 screws.
➤ The top of the spacer blocks should be at the
desired shade height.
IMPORTANT: Do not add more than 1

⁄ 2 " of
clearance using spacer blocks.
IMPORTANT: The tops of the installation brackets must be level with the front
edges aligned.
CAUTION: Use drywall anchors when mounting into drywall.
■ If using extension brackets, attach an installation bracket to
the underside of each extension bracket using the speed nuts
and screws provided.
If you have a headrail-mounted rechargeable battery wand,
proceed to “STEP 2: Attach Rechargeable Battery Mount to Headrail (If
Applicable)” on page 8,
Otherwise proceed to “STEP 3: Install the Shade” on page 9.

STEP 2: Attach Rechargeable Battery Mount to Headrail (If
Applicable)
Install the Rechargeable Battery Clips
■ Insert the rechargeable battery clips into the back channel of the headrail.
IMPORTANT: Position the clips so that the rechargeable battery wand will be between
installation brackets.
Mount the Rechargeable Battery Mount into the Clips
■ From the back of the shade headrail, connect
the power cable from the motor side into the
socket on the rechargeable
battery mount.
■ Align the slots in the
battery mount with the
battery wand clips.
■ Push the battery mount
onto the battery wand clips
until it snaps into place.
Check to make sure the
battery mount is secure.
CAUTION: Be sure the cable does not become pinched by the battery wand clips during
installation. Damage or overheating of components could result.
NOTE: Do not install the rechargeable battery wand into the battery mount before
installing the shade. See “STEP 4: Connect the Power Source — Headrail-Mounted
Rechargeable Battery Wand” on page 10 for instructions on inserting the battery wand
into the battery mount.

STEP 3: Install the Shade
■ Position the shade so
that the front faces you.
■ Ensure that each lever is
pushed to the left side
of the bracket before
installing the shade.
■ Slide the headrail into the installation brackets so that the headrail is between the
lever and the bracket, asshown.
■ Firmly push the headrail into each bracket until it clicks and the levers snap to the
right side of the bracket.
IMPORTANT: Push all levers to the right to confirm they are fully locked, then carefully
pull on the headrail at each bracket to ensure it is installedsecurely.
Attach the Dust Cover (Optional for Outside Mounts)
The dust cover is used to protect the top of the headrail from exposure on outside
mounted shades.
■ Cut the dust cover to desired width.
■ Remove the paper backing on one side of the hook and loop
fastener dots.
■ Apply the dots to the installation brackets on each end of
the shades.
■ Remove the remaining paper backing from the dots.
■ Center the dust cover over the top of the shade, above the dots.
■ Press the dust cover down onto the dots.

STEP 4: Connect the Power Source
NOTE: When power is connected to the motor, a blue LED inside the control button housing
will flash to indicate the shade is ready for operation.
■ Refer to the appropriate page based on your order.
➤ For a battery wand, see below.
➤ For an optional satellite battery pack, see page 12.
➤ For an optional headrail-mounted rechargeable battery wand, see page 12.
➤ For an optional satellite-mounted rechargeable battery wand, see page 12.

Install the Battery Wand
NOTE: Battery wand is stored in the front of the headrail. Reference the label on the front of
the headrail for location.
■ Plug the power cable into the battery wand.
■ Press the control button to lower the shade at least 12" in order to create space to install
the battery wand.
NOTE: The control button is located at the right hand side of the headrail below
the endcap.
■ Locate the clips inside the headrail in front of the fabric roll, as shown.
■ To install, place the wand against the inside of the front of the headrail then push up until
the battery wand locks into place and clicks.
NOTE: Listen for a “click” when installing the battery wand to make sure it is inserted all
the way into the clips.
NOTE: To remove the battery wand, reach your fingers inside the front of the headrail
where the battery wand is located. Find the lip on the end of the wand and pull down.

Optional Satellite Battery Pack (If Applicable)
Mount the Satellite Battery Pack
■ Decide where you want to mount the satellite battery pack. A satellite battery pack may
be mounted in any orientation.
■ Mark the screw holes for the wall mount bracket.
■ Drill the screw holes using a

⁄ 32 " drill bit.
■ Remove the backing from the double-sided tape. Press the
bracket into place.
■ Attach the bracket using the screws provided.
■ Position the battery wand so the power cable is easily connected to the socket.
■ Snap the battery wand into the wall mount bracket.
■ Install the battery wand cover with the slot aligned to the socket in the battery wand.
■ Plug the power cable from the shade into the
extension cable.
■ Plug the other end of the extension cable into
the socket in the battery wand.
■ Secure the power supply using wire retainers
(not supplied).

Headrail-Mounted Rechargeable Battery Wand (If Applicable)
Insert the Rechargeable Battery Wand into the Battery Mount
NOTE: The rechargeable battery wand ships fully charged, so it is ready to install out of
the package.
■ Match the direction of the arrow on the underside of the battery wand with the arrow on
the battery mount.
■ Insert the nose of the battery wand into the cavity of the battery mount.
■ Push the battery wand flush into the mount until the battery snaps into place.
CAUTION: Failing to insert the wand properly may cause it to fall out of the mount,
posing an injury risk and potentially damaging the wand. Additionally, when the shade
is mounted on a door, closing the door with excess force may cause the battery wand to
dislodge from the mount, also posing an injury risk and possibly damaging the wand.
Proceed to “Testing the Shade” on page 16.
Satellite-Mounted Rechargeable Battery Wand (If Applicable)
■ Decide where you want to install the rechargeable battery mount. This may be mounted
behind the headrail, or in any desired location near the window covering. A satellite
battery mount may be installed in any orientation.
➤ Make sure the provided cable is long enough to connect the satellite battery mount
and the shade.
CAUTION: The rear of the battery mount must be flush against a flat mounting surface.
Do not install the mount on curved molding.

■ Mark the screw holes.

■ Attach the battery mount using the screws provided.
CAUTION: Only use the screws provided with the battery mount, designed so that the
screws will install flush with the mount. Protrusion of the screws could result in either the
battery wand not attaching properly, causing a failure to connect, or the wand falling out
of the mount. Do not overtighten.
■ Connect the power cable from the motor side into the power socket on the rechargeable
battery mount.
NOTE: With longer cables, wire retainers (not supplied) are recommended to secure
the cable.

NOTE: The rechargeable battery wand ships fully charged, so it is ready to install out of
the package.
■ Match the direction of the arrow on the underside of the battery wand with the arrow on

18V DC Power Supply with Daisy-Chain Connections
NOTE: The daisy-chain feature is only available with the 18V DC Power Supply option. Refer
to this section if you have an 18V Power Supply with daisy-chain connections.
The daisy-chain feature allows up to three PowerView®Gen 3 automated shades to be
powered by a single 18V DC Power Supply. However, each shade can operate independently.
■ Route the power cable from each shade to the Y Adapter, using an extension cable,
if necessary.
■ Plug an extension cable into the connector and plug the cable into the 18V DC Power
Supply. Two extension cables and two connectors are used for three shades.
■ Plug the 18V DC Power Supply into a standard outlet.

Testing the Shade
Use the control button to test the shade and ensure that
the motor and power source are working correctly.
NOTE: The control button is located at the right
hand side of the headrail below the endcap.
■ Press the control button to lower the shade. If
the shade does not operate, see "Troubleshooting" on page 19.
■ Press the control button to raise the shade.
CAUTION: When raising the shade for the first time, observe how the fabric rolls up into
the headrail. It should roll up evenly. If the bottom rail is not level or the shade starts to
rub against either window jamb, immediately press the control button to stop the shade.
See "Adjusting the Bottom Rail Weight" on page 26.
■ The control button can also be used in combination with the PowerView®App for control
of advanced shade functions and home access. Open the App, then press and hold the
control button to see a list of available functions. See "Operating the PowerView® App
and Gen 3 Remote" on page 17 for more information.

Operating the PowerView®App and Gen 3 Remote
Syncing and Programming Your Remote
■ Activate the remote by pulling both plastic tabs from the back battery compartment.
■ Download the PowerView®App for your smartphone or tablet at hdpvapp.com.
■ Open the PowerView App and follow the steps to set up your new shades and remote.
■ Use the PowerView App to program and manage your PowerView Gen 3 remote(s)
as accessories.
■ For more details, refer to the digital PowerView Gen 3 Automation Remote Control Guide.
Basic Operation
■ Wake up the remote by picking it up or pressing ■STOP.
■ Press group number(s) 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and/or 6 to select one or more groups. Selected group
numbers light up white on the remote.
■ Press selected group number(s) 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and/or 6 a second time to deselect one or
more groups. Deselected group numbers are not lit.

Further Operation and Programming Information
PowerView®App
The PowerView®App is required to program PowerView Gen 3 shades, remotes, and
gateways. The App is compatible with Apple®and Android™smartphones and tablets. For
more information regarding setup and operation using the PowerView App, refer to
https://help.hunterdouglas.com/s/powerview-gen-3-manuals.
PowerView®Gen 3 Gateway
The PowerView®Gen 3 Gateway is used to control shades in larger projects as well as
integrate PowerView Gen 3 shades with third-party integration systems. For information
regarding programming of PowerView Gen 3 Gateways, refer to the digital PowerView Gen 3
Automation Gateway Guide.
PowerView Gen 3 Remote
For more information regarding operation and programming of the PowerView Gen 3 Remote,
refer to the digital PowerView Gen 3 Automation Remote Control Guide.
Resetting the Shade (If Necessary)
Calibration Reset
The calibration reset is used to recalibrate the shade's travel limits. This action is performed
in the PowerView®App.
■ Select Calibrate Shade in the Advanced Options section of the Shade Settings menu in the
PowerView App.
■ The shade will touch off at the top, then lower to the closed position. Calibration is
complete when the shading stops moving.
Resetting Shade Programming
The PowerView App may be used to modify or reset any shade programming to PowerView
Gen 3 remotes and gateways. Shades may be added to or removed from Rooms in the App at
any time. If necessary, shades may also be deleted from the PowerView App in the Advanced
Options section of the Shade Settings menu.
Electronic Limit Adjustments
Electronic limits are set at the factory and normally do not require readjustment. For window
treatments that may need additional adjustment or to set custom limit positions, go to Shade
Settings in the PowerView App for adjustable limits.
