GETTING STARTED
Thank you for purchasing Hunter Douglas Specialty Motorized Vertical Blinds. With proper
installation, operation, and care, your new blinds will provide years of beauty and performance.
Please thoroughly review this instruction booklet and the enclosed packing list before beginning
the installation.
Tools and Fasteners Needed
■Flat blade and Phillips screwdriver
■Level (laser level is recommended)
■Measuring tape and pencil
■Pocket screwdriver or paperclip
■Power drill and drill bits
In addition, you will need fasteners designed to work with your specific mounting surface(s).
Caution: Use screws specific to mounting application. Be sure blinds are securely fastened
and level to operate correctly.
Installation Overview
The number of installation brackets required varies with headrail width, as shown in the
table below.
Mounting Types and Window Terminology
If the installation brackets are mounted correctly, the rest
of the installation process follows very easily. To prepare
for this important first step, review the mounting types and
basic window terminology.

Mount the Mounting Clips — Inside Mount without Valance
■The mounting clip is mounted on the headrail not on the motor cover. Mark 2 to 4" in from
each jamb. Mark the position for remaining mounting clips. Distance should be no more
than 24" apart. Mount into wood.
■Center the mounting clips on your marks and mark the screw holes.

■Use a 3∕32" drill bit to drill the screw holes.
■Use a level to check that the mounting surface is level. Shim the mounting clips,
if necessary. Shims are not provided.

studs or into concrete with concrete anchors. Drywall
anchors are not recommended.

Mount the Installation Brackets — Outside Mount
■Motor-End Bracket. Remove the wingnut and install it on the top
of the bracket. The tab should be positioned away from the motor. The
orientation shown is for a rear motor mount.
■Center the headrail over the window opening at the desired height.
Use a pencil to lightly mark each end of the headrail.
➤Alternatively, measure the width of the headrail and use that width to mark the headrail
end points over the window opening.
■Mark 2 to 4" in from each jamb for bracket location. Orient the mounting clips on the
bracket with the tab away from the motor.
➤If more than two installation brackets came with your order, space additional
bracket(s) no more than 24" apart and mark their location.
Mount into wood.
■Center the brackets on your marks and mark the screw holes.
➤A minimum 2" flat vertical surface is required to mount the brackets.
important: The front edges of the installation brackets must be level and aligned to

■Use a 3∕32" drill bit to drill the screw holes.
Warning: Product is heavy. Mount into wood/
metal studs or into concrete with concrete anchors.

Valance Assembly
For inside mount blinds, attach the dust cover valance directly to the head jamb. To mount it
outside the window, attach it to the headrail using the valance hangers. Please refer to the
sections below for your valance type.
Single-Tiered Dust Cover Closed Square Corner
Insert Attachment:
■Cut a fabric insert for the valance and each valance
return 1" longer at each end than the valance and
valance return width.
notE: Vinyl inserts are cut differently than fabric. Cut
vinyl flush with the ends. Secure vinyl in place with the
valance return clips.
■Center the fabric insert in the valance and wrap
the excess on each side around to the back of
the valance.
■At one end, hold the fabric insert in place with a
corner clip.
■At the opposite end, pull the fabric insert tight and
secure it in place with another corner clip.
■Center each valance return fabric insert and wrap
the excess on each side around to the back of the
valance return.
■Attach the valance return to the valance using the
already attached corner clip.
■At the opposite end of the valance return, pull the
fabric insert tight and secure it in place with a
valance return clip.
■Repeat the previous three steps for the other valance return.
For inside mount blinds, proceed to “Install Mounting Clips (and Assembled Valance) —
Inside Mount” on page 9. For outside mount blinds, proceed to “Install Valance Bracket
Front Motor Mount Blinds — Outside Mount” on page 10.

Single-Tiered Dust Cover Open Square Corner (Fabric Only)
■Cut fabric long enough to wrap around
the corner and over the entire return
plus at least 1" excess at each end.
■Attach the corner clip and valance
returns.
■Insert the fabric into the valance, wrap
it through the corner clip and into the
valance return.
important: Leave enough extra fabric at the
other end of the fabric insert to be able to wrap
around the other valance return.
■Wrap excess fabric around the end of the
valance return and secure it with a valance
return clip.
■Repeat the previous two steps for the other
valance return.
For inside mount blinds, proceed to “Install Mounting Clips (and Assembled Valance) —
Inside Mount” on page 9. For outside mount blinds, proceed to “Install Valance Bracket
Front Motor Mount Blinds — Outside Mount” on page 10.

Single-Tiered Dust Cover Universal Round Corner
■Install the round valance corners onto each end of the valance.
■Install the valance returns onto each end of the round
valance corners.
■Cut the fabric insert 4" longer than the total length of the
valance plus both returns.
notE: Vinyl inserts should be cut flush with the ends of the
valance returns. Secure vinyl in place with the valance return clips.
■Place the fabric insert into the clear lips of the valance,
continuing around the molded valance corner and through
the valance return.
■Wrap excess fabric around the end of the valance return and
secure it with a valance return clip.
■Pull the fabric tight from the other end of the fabric insert, then
repeat the previous two steps.
■Attach the clear corner caps onto the valance corners, top and bottom.
■Use a (#4) ½" screw to secure each valance return onto the valance dust cover surface.
For inside mount blinds, proceed to “Install Mounting Clips (and Assembled Valance) —
Inside Mount” on page 9. For outside mount blinds, proceed to “Install Valance Bracket
Front Motor Mount Blinds — Outside Mount” on page 10.

Double-Tiered Dust Cover Universal Round Corner
■To install the double-tiered universal round corner valance,
follow the instructions for the single-tiered universal round
corner valance. The corner caps are installed on the top and
bottom of the upper valance and only on the bottom of the
lower valance.
■Install the valance stacking clips into the back
lips of the (upper) dust cover valance, and
space 24" apart. For outside mount only, add
an additional stacking clip to each return.
■For inside mount blinds. Use the rear groove
of the valance dust cover to position drill holes.
Proceed to “Install the Headrail” on page 11.

Install Mounting Clips (and Assembled Valance) — Inside Mount
Refer to the appropriate section below based on your motor mount position.
Front Mounted Motor
■Mounting clips have to be mounted separate
from the valance.
➤See the table below for mounting depths.
■Mark 2 to 4" in from each end of the
valance for the screws locations. If more
than two screws are needed, space
evenly at a minimum of 24".
■Hold the valance in position. Use a 3∕32"
drill bit to drill the screw holes through
the valance as marked.
■Attach the valance using the screws
provided.
➤Align and tighten the valance against the ceiling into its finished mounting position.
■Mark the location for the mounting clips. Place mounting clips ½" behind the valance in the
same locations as the screws for the valance.
■Use a 3∕32" drill bit to drill the screw holes.
■Attach the mounting clip using the screws provided.
Warning: Product is heavy. Mount into wood/metal studs or into concrete with
concrete anchors. Drywall anchors are not recommended.
Rear Mounted Motor
■Mark the underside of the valance 2 to 4" in
from each end of the valance for the mounting
clip locations. If more than two mounting clips
are needed, space evenly at a minimum of 24".

➤For single-tiered valance mark in the

■Use a level to check that the mounting surface is level. Shim the brackets, if necessary.

■Hold the valance in position. Use a 3∕32" drill bit to drill the screw holes through the valance
at mounting clip locations as marked.
■Attach the mounting clip using the screws provided.

Install Valance Bracket Front Motor Mount Blinds — Outside Mount
■Use a pencil to lightly mark the position of valance bracket placed in between each
installation bracket.

eachother.
■Use a 3∕32" drill bit to drill the screw holes.
Warning: Product is heavy. Mount into wood/metal studs or into concrete with
concrete anchors. Drywall anchors are not recommended.
■Use a level to check that the mounting surface is level. Shim the brackets, if necessary.
Shims are not provided.
■Attach the valance brackets using the screws provided.
■Loosen the wingnuts to slide the valance hangers out to allow for the valance to clear the
headrail and motor. Tighten wingnuts after adjustment.

Install the Headrail
■Center headrail underneath mounting clips.
■Tilt the headrail and insert it into the front edge of the mounting clip. Pull and roll the
headrail up toward the rear of the blind and snap into place.
Install the Valance
■Outside Mount Blinds with Rear
Mounted Motor Only. If a valance is
included, “snap” on a valance hanger
next to each “L” bracket.
■Center the valance over the headrail
and slide the valance into the valance
hangers.
Connecting the Transformer
■Route the extension cable behind
the motor/headrail.
■Plug the extension cable into the motor.
■Plug the transformer into the extension cable.
■Plug the transformer into a standard outlet.

■Secure the power supply cable using wire retainers. If hiding
the cable behind the blind, make sure it does not impede
the operation of theblind.
■Space the wire retainers approximately 15" apart along the
power supply cable, as shown.
Warning: Keep cords and small parts out of the
reach of children. They can wrap cords around their
necks and STRANGLE. They can also put small parts
in their mouths and CHOKE.
Warning: Electric shock and/or a fire hazard may
occur if the DC power supply and cables are not
properly installed.
If You Have a Wired Wall Switch...
■Route the wall switch cable behind
the motor/headrail.
■Plug the wall switch connector into
the motor.
■Mount the wall switch onto a flat
accessible surface.

Install the Vanes
■Determine the desired light/view direction.
■Rotate the vane hooks so the slot between
the long and the short prong is facing you.
■Push the vane into the hook until it “snaps”
into place.

Blind Operation
Using the Remote Control
Your remote control channels are pre-programmed. To clear the remote from blind memory,
see “Clear the Remote/Wireless Wall Switch from Blind Memory (If Necessary)” on page 16.
To reassign a blind to a channel, see “Assign a Blind to a Channel (If Necessary)” on page 16.
■Select the channel for the blind.
■Press and release OPEN ^to traverse the blind to the fully open position.
➤If you press and hold OPEN ^ the blind will begin to open and will stop when you
release the button.
■Press and release CLOSE
v to traverse the blind to the closed position and tilt the vanes
fully closed.
➤If you press and hold CLOSE
v the blind will begin to close and will stop when you
release the button.
■Rolling the scroll wheel UP or DOWN will tilt the vanes incrementally up to 180°.

Using the Wired Wall Switch
■Press and hold CLOSE the blind will begin to close and will stop when you release
the button.
■Press and hold OPEN  the blind will begin to open and will stop when you release
the button.
■Press and hold either TILT button to tilt the vanes incrementally up to 180°. The
vanes will stop tilting when you release the button.
Using the Wireless Wall Switch
■Select the channel for the blind.
To Traverse the Blind
■Press and release OPEN to traverse the blind to the fully open position. The STOP
button will stop the blind at any position.
■Press and release CLOSE to traverse the blind to the fully closed position. The STOP
button will stop the blind at any position.
To Tilt the Vanes
■Press and hold  to tilt the vanes incrementally up to 180°. The vanes will stop
tilting when you release the button. If you continue to hold the button, the blind will begin
traversing to the fully closed position.

Clear the Remote/Wireless Wall Switch from Blind Memory (If Necessary)
The following steps will clear the remote/wireless wall switch from the blind memory which
removes all channels.
■Traverse the blind to the fully open position.
■With a pocket screwdriver, press and continue to hold the
motor program button. The motor will beep (one long then
two short beeps) and the carriers will jog. Continue to
hold while the motor repeats this sequence three times,
then release.
■Traverse the blind to test whether or not the memory is clear. The blind should not
move if clearing the blind memory was successful. If the blind moves, repeat the previous
two steps.
Assign a Blind to a Channel (If Necessary)
There are five channels available on your remote.
■These steps need to be completed without delay between steps using a pocket screwdriver
and/or paperclip.
➤Press the channel selector until the light for the channel you are programming your blind
to illuminates.
➤Using a pocket screwdriver or paperclip, press and
hold the motor program button until you hear a series
of beeps and the carriers jog, then release.
➤Using a pocket screwdriver or
paperclip, press and hold the
program button. The motor will
beep (one long then two short
beeps) and the carriers will jog,
then release. The blind has been
assigned to the channel.
■Traverse the blind to test whether
or not the blind is assigned to the
channel. If the blind doesn't move,
repeat the previous three steps.

Program ‘MY’ Button (Optional)
The ‘MY’ button allows you to set a favorite position for
your blind.
■Move the blind and tilt the vanes to your favorite position.
■Press and hold the ‘MY’ button. The motor will beep (one
long, then two short beeps) indicating the button has been
programmed.
■Test the ‘MY’ button. Open the blind fully then press
the ‘MY’ button. The blind and vanes should move to your
favorite position.

Troubleshooting
Problem Vanes do not all rotate or close tightly.
Solution Check to see if the carriers bodies are in sync. If they are not in sync, rotate
them by hand so they are all in the same position.
Problem The blind does not respond.
Solution ■Check for power to the blind.
➤Be sure that the remote control is addressing the channel to which the
blind wasset.
➤The motor may be defective if there is more than one motorized blind
installed and only one is not responding.
■Check the power to the blind.
➤Unplug the transformer from the standard outlet. The motor will beep.
➤Plug the transformer into the standard outlet. If power is working
correctly, you should hear three short beeps.
■Remote control/wireless wall switch. Press the channel selector. The
channel indicator should illuminate. If the light illuminates but the remote
control/wireless wall switch only works at very short range, the batteries
are weak. For instructions on changing the batteries, refer to the guide
included with your device.
