RELEASE CONTENT INFORMATION
This document provides release content information on the Mitel 6800 series SIP phone
firmware.
HARDWARE SUPPORTED
This release of firmware is compatible with the following Mitel SIP portfolio products:
• 6863i
• 6865i
• 6867i
• 6869i
• 6873i
BOOTLOADER REQUIREMENTS
This release of firmware is compatible with the following Mitel SIP portfolio product bootloader
versions:
• 6863i: Boot2 1.0.0.0 or higher
• 6865i: Boot2 1.0.0.0 or higher
• 6867i: Boot2 1.0.0.6 or higher
• 6869i: Boot2 1.0.0.6 or higher
• 6873i: Boot2 1.0.1.9 or higher

IMPORTANT 6800 SERIES SIP PHONE FIRMWARE UPGRADE
INFORMATION
IMPORTANT M685I EXPANSION MODULE FIRMWARE DOWNGRADE
INFORMATION
If you upgrade your phone from a release lower than 4.2.0 to Release 4.2.0 SP1 and an M685i
Expansion Module is attached, the M685i Expansion Module will also upgrade to align itself
with the new UI changes.
If downgrading the phone with an M685i Expansion Module from Release 4.2.0 SP1 to a
firmware version of Release 4.1.0 (or below), it is required to first downgrade to a Release 4.1.0
Hot Fix or 4.1.0 Service Pack and then to the Release 4.1.0 (or below) firmware version in such
scenarios.
This will ensure the UI of the M685i Expansion Module is aligned with the UI at all times.
WARNING: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO UPGRADE YOUR PHONE TO RELEASE 4.2.0
SP1 FROM A RELEASE LOWER THAN 4.2.0 WHEN IN WEB RECOVERY MODE.
DOING SO WILL CAUSE YOUR PHONE TO BECOME NON-OPERATIONAL.

NEW FEATURES IN RELEASE 4.2.0 SP1
This section provides the new features in SIP Phone Release 4.2.0 SP1. The following table
summarizes each new feature and provides a link to more information within this release note.
Each feature also specifies whether it affects theAdministrator, the User, or the XML Developer.
This table may also provide the documentation location of features that have already been
documented in Mitel’s documentation suite. Refer to those documents for more information

Directory Loose Number Matching
Enhancements
(For Administrators)
Starting with Release 4.2.0 SP1, the value defined for the
"directory digits match" configuration parameter now
corresponds to the minimum number of digits the phone will take
into account to perform a directory lookup. If the incoming call’s
phone number is less than the value defined for the "directory
digits match" parameter, the phone will not perform a directory
lookup and will display the information provided in the SIP
header.
*New for all phones.
BroadSoft BroadWorks Remote
Office Support
(For Administrators and Users)
Release 4.2.0 SP1 introduces interoperability support for the
BroadSoft BroadWorks Remote Office service using the
BroadSoft BroadWorks Xsi API. The BroadWorks Remote Office
service allows users the ability to use any remote endpoint device
as their office phone. Users can define a remote office number or
SIP-URI whereby all incoming calls to their SIP phone will be
automatically forwarded to the defined remote office
number/SIP-URI
*New for the 6867i, 6869i, and 6873i.
BroadSoft BroadWorks
Simultaneous Ring Personal
Support
(For Administrators and Users)
Release 4.2.0 SP1 introduces interoperability support for the
BroadSoft BroadWorks Simultaneous Ring Personal service
using the BroadSoft BroadWorks Xsi API. The BroadWorks
Simultaneous Ring Personal service allows users the ability to
define up to 10 phone numbers or SIP-URIs and independently
set which phone numbers should ring when a call is incoming to
their primary phone.
*New for the 6867i, 6869i, and 6873i.
BroadSoft BroadWorks Anywhere
Support
(For Administrators and Users)
Release 4.2.0 SP1 introduces interoperability support for the
BroadSoft BroadWorks Anywhere service using the BroadSoft
BroadWorks Xsi API. The BroadWorks Anywhere service allows
users the ability to make and receive calls using one number,
regardless of the device being used. When enabled on the phone,
users are able to configure the BroadWorks Anywhere service
directly through the phone’s native UI.
*New for the 6867i, 6869i, and 6873i.

New Features in Release 4.2.0 SP1

Call History Softkey Support
(For Administrators and Users)
A new "Call History" softkey type has been implemented in
Release 4.2.0 SP1. When pressed, the Call History softkey
allows users the ability to directly access the list of all calls in the
Call History.
*New for the 6867i, 6869i, and 6873i.
SIP Features
P-Asserted-Identity (PAI) Tel URI
Support
(For Administrators)
Starting with Release 4.2.0 SP1, when PAI is enabled,
Administrators are now able to select which URI field ("sip" or
"tel") the phone should use when displaying the PAI URI
information.
*New for all phones.
UI Features
Screen Saver Background Image
Support
(For Administrators)
With Release 4.2.0 SP1, Administrators now have the ability to
display a screen saver background image on the 6867i, 6869i,
and 6873i SIP phone. Screen saver background images can also
be dynamically updated at a set interval, based on a refresh timer.
*New for the 6867i, 6869i, and 6873i.
6873i On-Screen Keyboard
Enhancements
(For Administrators and Users)
In addition to the international (QWERTY) and French (AZERTY)
keyboard layouts available in Release 4.2.0, the 6873i now
provides German (QWERTZ), Russian, and Greek keyboard
layouts starting with Release 4.2.0 SP1. Moreover, Shift and
Caps Lock behavior for the 6873i’s on-screen keyboard has been
enhanced in Release 4.2.0 SP1.

Individual Contact Ring Tone
Support
(For Users)
Individual contact ring tone support has been introduced in
Release 4.2.0 SP1. Individual contact ring tones can be used
during incoming calls to help users identify the party calling.
Users are now able to select contact-specific ring tones for
respective contacts in their local directory, which will be played
back when a call from the respective contact is incoming.
*New for all phones.
Feature Re-Branding Support for
BroadSoft-Based Service
Providers
(For Administrators)
The 6800 series SIP phones support the configuration of a
number of BroadSoft features through the native phone UI as well
as the phone’s Web UI. References to these features in the
respective UI may contain the strings "BroadSoft", "BSFT", or
"BroadWorks". Starting with Release 4.2.0 SP1, service
providers are now able to replace these BroadSoft-related strings
in the UI with their own custom branding names.

DIRECTORY LOOSE NUMBER MATCHING ENHANCEMENTS
By default, if an incoming call’s phone number is identical to a phone number corresponding
to a directory entry, the phone will automatically display the name defined for the respective
directory entry instead of the information provided in the SIP header (e.g. From, To, Contact,
PAI info). If the phone number is not identical, the directory lookup will fail and the phone will
not display the stored directory entry’s name.
However, the phone supports a directory loose number matching feature (using the "directory
digits match" configuration parameter) whereby the Administrator can define how many digits
of an incoming call’s phone number the phone will use to perform a lookup in the various
directories. For example, if a directory contains "1234567" as a phone number for an entry with
the name defined as "John Smith", and the “directory digits match” parameter is defined as
"7", the phone will take the last 7 digits of the incoming number and perform a lookup in the
various directories. If an incoming call’s phone number is 5551234567, as the last 7 digits are
a match, the phone will display the directory entry’s name (i.e. John Smith) on screen.
In previous releases, the value defined for the "directory digits match" parameter
corresponded to the maximum number of digits the phone would take into account to perform
the directory lookup. This means, using the example above, if an incoming call’s phone number
was 4567, the phone would still match the incoming call to the "John Smith" directory entry with
the number "1234567". Starting with Release 4.2.0 SP1, the value defined for the "directory
digits match" configuration parameter corresponds to the minimum number of digits the phone
will take into account to perform a directory lookup. If the incoming call’s phone number is less
than the value defined for the "directory digits match" parameter, the phone will not perform
a directory lookup and will display the information provided in the SIP header.

Configuring the Directory Loose Number Matching Feature Using the Configuration Files
Use the following parameter to configure the directory loose number matching feature:

Specifies how many digits of an incoming call’s phone number the
phone will take into consideration when performing a directory lookup.

Notes:
1. When defined as 0, the incoming call’s phone number must be
identical to the directory entry’s number for the defined directory
entry’s name to be displayed.
2. If the incoming call’s phone number is greater than or equal to the
defined value and the respective last digits of the phone number
match those of a directory entry, the phone will display the
directory entry’s name on screen.
3. If the incoming call’s phone number is less than the defined value,
the phone will not perform a directory lookup and will display the
information provided in the SIP header.

BROADSOFT BROADWORKS REMOTE OFFICE SUPPORT
Release 4.2.0 SP1 introduces interoperability support for the BroadSoft BroadWorks Remote
Office service using the BroadSoft BroadWorks Xsi API. The BroadWorks Remote Office
service allows users the ability to use any remote end-point device as their office phone. Users
can define a remote office number or SIP-URI whereby all incoming calls to their SIP phone
will be automatically forwarded to the defined remote office number/SIP-URI.
After configuring the Remote Office service using the Xtended Services Platform,
Administrators must enable basic Xsi interoperability on the phone by defining the following
Xsi credential parameters:
• xsi ip
• xsi protocol
• xsi port
• xsi user name
In addition to the Xsi credential parameters, to specifically enable Remote Office support on
the phone, Administrators must define the “xsi remote office” parameter in the respective
configuration file as "1". When enabled, users have the ability to enable and disable Remote
Office functionality as well as change the Remote Office number/SIP-URI through the phone’s
native UI.
Note: This feature is applicable to the 6867i, 6869i, and 6873i SIP phones.
Note: Refer to the respective Xtended Services Platform and BroadSoft BroadWorks
documentation for information on how to configure the Remote Office service on the
BroadSoft BroadWorks call manager.
Note: For authentication, the Xsi SIP authentication feature can be configured to
automate authentication using users’ SIP credentials or, alternatively, users can
authenticate to the Xsi account by manually entering in their credentials through the
native phone UI. For more information on Xsi authentication options, refer to the 6800
Series SIP Phones Administrator Guide.

Enabling Remote Office Support Using the Configuration Files
Use the following parameters to enable Xsi Remote Office support:

to user-related Xsi features. Credentials for the user-related Xsi

must be enabled.

Use the following procedure on the phone’s UI to configure Remote Office service.
For the 6867i/6869i:
1. Press on the phone to enter the Options List.
2. Navigate to the BroadSoft Call Settings > Remote Office option and press the button
or Select softkey.
3. In the Remote Office field press the 3or 4key enable or disable the service.
4. Press the 2key to highlight the Phone Number/SIP-URI field and using the dialpad keys
enter the phone number or SIP-URI you want all incoming calls to be forwarded to.
5. Press the Save softkey to save your changes.

BROADSOFT BROADWORKS SIMULTANEOUS RING PERSONAL
SUPPORT
Release 4.2.0 SP1 introduces interoperability support for the BroadSoft BroadWorks
Simultaneous Ring Personal service using the BroadSoft BroadWorks Xsi API. The
BroadWorks Simultaneous Ring Personal service allows users the ability to define up to 10
phone numbers or SIP-URIs and independently set which phone numbers should ring when a
call is incoming to their primary phone.
After configuring the Simultaneous Ring Personal service using the Xtended Services Platform,
Administrators must enable basic Xsi interoperability on the phone by defining the following
Xsi credential parameters:
• xsi ip
• xsi protocol
• xsi port
• xsi user name
In addition to the Xsi credential parameters, to specifically enable Simultaneous Ring Personal
support on the phone, Administrators must define the “xsi simultaneous ring personal”
parameter in the respective configuration file as "1". When enabled, users have the ability to
enable and disable simultaneous ring functionality for up to 10 phone numbers. Users can also
specify whether or not simultaneous ringing should occur when on an active call.
Note: This feature is applicable to the 6867i, 6869i, and 6873i SIP phones.
Note: Refer to the respective Xtended Services Platform and BroadSoft BroadWorks
documentation for information on how to configure the Remote Office service on the
BroadSoft BroadWorks call manager.
Note: For authentication, the Xsi SIP authentication feature can be configured to
automate authentication using users’ SIP credentials or, alternatively, users can
authenticate to the Xsi account by manually entering in their credentials through the
native phone UI. For more information on Xsi authentication options, refer to the 6800
Series SIP Phones Administrator Guide.
