Safety and General Information
WARNING:
All batteries can cause property damage and/or bodily injury such as burns if a conductive
material such as jewelry, keys or beaded chains touches exposed terminals. The material may
complete an electrical circuit (short circuit) and become quite hot. Exercise care in handling any
charged battery, particularly when placing it inside a pocket, purse or other container with metal
objects.
Do not replace or charge batteries in potentially explosive atmosphere. Contact sparking may
occur while installing or removing batteries and cause an explosion.
Due to the risk of electrical shock or other physical injury, do not insert your hands into the
charger pocket.
Important Safety Instructions
This document contains important safety and operating instructions. Please read these instructions
carefully and save them for future reference.
Before using the battery charger, read all the instructions and cautionary markings on the charger, the
battery, and the radio using the battery.
WARNING:
• To reduce the risk of damage to the power cord, pull the plug rather than the cord when
disconnecting power cord from the AC outlet or the charger.
• To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, avoid using an extension cord. If an extension
cord must be used, ensure that the cord size is 18 AWG for lengths of up to 100 ft (30.48 m),
and 16 AWG for lengths up to 150 ft (45.72 m).
• To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury, do not operate the charger if it is broken or
damaged in any way. Take it to a qualified Motorola Solutions service representative.
• To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not disassemble the charger. It is not
repairable and replacement parts are not available.
• To reduce the risk of electric shock, unplug the charger power adapter from the AC outlet
before attempting any maintenance or cleaning.
• To reduce the risk of injury, charge only the rechargeable authorized batteries. Other
batteries may explode, causing personal injury and damage.
• To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury, only use the accessories recommended
by Motorola Solutions.
• Changes or modifications made to this device, not expressly approved by Motorola
Solutions, could void the authority of the user to operate this equipment.
Operational Safety Guidelines
The followings are the operating guidelines for the charger.
• This equipment is not suitable for outdoor use. Use only in dry locations and conditions.
• Maximum ambient temperature around the charger must not exceed 40 °C (104 °F).
• To ensure optimized charging performance, turn off the radio while charging unless the radio is
transmitting data wirelessly on Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.
• Connect the charger to an AC outlet using only a Motorola Solutions Authorized Transformers. See
Power Sources and Transformers on page 11.
• The AC outlet to which the transformer is connected must be nearby and easily accessible.

• Ensure that the power supply cord connected to the charger is not easily stepped on, tripped over,
or subjected to water, damage, or stress.
• Connect the power supply only to an appropriately fused and wired AC outlet with the correct
voltage, as specified on the product.
• Disconnect from the line voltage by removing the power supply from the AC outlet.
• Connect not more than the appropriate number of charger power supplies to a 15 A and 20 A
circuit, as limited by any certified power strip used.
• The equipment shall be connected to a nearby and easily accessible socket outlet.

Chapter 2
Operating Instructions
The charger pockets accommodate either a radio with an attached Motorola Solutions-approved
battery, or a Motorola Solutions-approved battery alone. Batteries charge best at room temperature.
Prerequisites:
NOTE: To ensure optimized charging performance, turn off the radio while charging unless the
radio is transmitting data wirelessly on Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.
Procedure:
1Plug the round end of the transformer cord into the socket (1) at the back of the charger.

2Plug the transformer into the appropriate Alternating Current (AC) outlet.
A successful power-up sequence is indicated by a single green blink on the charger indicator.
Refer to the Charging Indicators on page 14.
3Insert a Motorola Solutions-approved battery, or a radio with a Motorola Solutions-approved
battery into the charger pocket.
aAlign the battery contacts with the charger contacts.
bPress the battery into the pocket, ensuring complete contact.
Once the Motorola Solutions-approved battery is properly seated into the pocket, the charger
indicator illuminates, indicating the charger has recognized the presence of the battery.
4To remove a radio or Motorola Solutions-approved battery from the charger, pull straight up until
the battery completely clears the charger housing.
2.1
Battery Locating Rail Adapter
The battery locating rail is a removable part which constitutes an adapter to accommodate standard
and slimline batteries. The charger is shipped with the battery locating rail in the standard battery
position.
When and where to use: Charging slimline battery.
Procedure:
1Remove the battery locating rail by pinching inward both sides while pulling from the charger
pocket.

2Turn the battery locating rail around so the back faces the front.
NOTE: Batteries PMNN4598_ and PMNN4600_ charge with the battery locating rail in
the standard battery position.
3Re-insert the battery into the charger pocket.

Steady Green Battery is fully charged.

predetermined threshold level for rapid
charging.
When this condition is corrected,
the battery charges automatically.

avec les bornes de la batterie. Le matériau risque de fermer un circuit électrique (court-circuit)
et de devenir très chaud. Manipulez avec précaution les batteries chargées, en particulier
lorsqu’elles sont placées dans une poche, un sac à main ou tout autre endroit contenant des
objets métalliques.
Évitez de remplacer ou de charger des batteries dans une atmosphère potentiellement
explosive. La production d’étincelles lors de l’installation ou du retrait des batteries présente
un risque d’explosion.
En raison du risque de décharge électrique ou d’autres blessures physiques, n’insérez pas vos
mains dans le logement du chargeur.

Avant d’utiliser le chargeur de batterie, lisez toutes les directives et tous les marquages
d’avertissement sur le chargeur, la batterie et la radio associée à la batterie.
AVERTISSEMENT :
• Pour réduire les risques d’endommager le cordon d’alimentation, tirez sur la prise et non sur
le cordon au moment de le débrancher de la prise c.a. ou du chargeur.
• Pour réduire les risques d’incendie ou de décharge électrique, évitez d’utiliser une rallonge
électrique. Si une rallonge doit être utilisée, assurez-vous que le format du cordon est de
calibre 18 lorsque sa longueur est de 30,48 m (100 pi) ou moins et de calibre 16 lorsque sa
longueur atteint jusqu’à 45,72 m (150 pi).
• Pour réduire les risques d’incendie, de décharge électrique ou de blessure, n’utilisez pas
le chargeur s’il est brisé ou endommagé de quelque manière que ce soit. Apportez-le à un
représentant de service qualifié de Motorola Solutions.
• Pour réduire les risques d’incendie ou de décharge électrique, ne démontez pas le chargeur.
Il ne peut pas être réparé et aucune pièce de rechange n’est disponible.
• Pour réduire les risques de décharge électrique, débranchez l’adaptateur d’alimentation du
chargeur de la prise c.a. avant de procéder à une maintenance ou à un nettoyage.
• Pour réduire les risques de blessure, ne chargez que les batteries rechargeables agréées.
D’autres batteries peuvent exploser, causant des blessures et des dommages.
• Pour réduire les risques d’incendie, de décharge électrique ou de blessure, n’utilisez que les
accessoires recommandés par Motorola Solutions.
• Toute modification apportée à cet appareil sans l’autorisation explicite de Motorola Solutions
peut annuler l’autorisation d’utiliser cet appareil.
