05 1. Preparation.
1.1 Delivery
On receiving the product, please check it is complete, has no faults, and
has not been damaged in transport. Inspect the goods in the presence of
your forwarder. Should transport damage have occurred, please arrange
for an inventory (determination of the faults) to be made in the presence of
the forwarder. Please report all details to Schuchmann UK.
1.2 Safety measures prior to use
The correct use of the product requires a detailed and careful instruction
of the user or the accompanying person. We ask you to read through the
Instructions for use carefully prior to initial commissioning of the product,
and to observe them. It is possible that product parts that get in contact
with the skin may heat up in the sun. Depending on the duration and in-
tensity of solar radiation, the surfaces of individual parts can heat up to
over 41°C and thus lead to slight burns in the event of direct skin contact.
Therefore cover these areas or protect the device from direct sunlight.
1.3 Safe disposal
In order to preserve and protect the environment, to prevent environmental
pollution and to improve the recycling of raw materials, please note the
disposal instructions in points 1.3.1 and 1.3.2.
1.3.1 Packaging
The packaging of the product should be kept for any future transport that
might be required. Should you have to return the product for repairs or in
case of a guarantee claim, please if possible use the original box so that
the product is optimally packaged. Otherwise, separate the packaging
materials for recycling according to their classification.
Do not leave packaging materials unattended, as they are a possible source of
danger.
1.3.2 Product
At the end of the product life cycle, recycle the raw materials used in the
product according to their nature (see material information under point
2.1).
1.4 Where to store the Instructions for use
Please store these Instructions for use carefully and ensure that these
instructions for use remain with the product in case of re-use. Should you
lose the instructions, you can always download an updated version at
www.schuchmann.co.uk.

2.1 Material information
The base frame and the individual elements are made from aluminium or
steel, are free from corrosion and are powder-coated. All body supports
are padded and covered. The covers are made of 100% polyester and/or
polyamide and are flame resistant (according to DIN EN 1021-1+2).
2.2 Handling and transport
The upright standing frame is not designed to be carried, as it is fitted with
castors. Should you have to carry the equipment due to obstacles, en-
sure that all moving parts are tightened. Then two people should position
themselves next to the upright trainer, grip it on the left and right of the
frame and carry it to the required location. To transport the upright trainer,
reduce all adjustments to their most compact size (fold up pelvic frame, set
lowest height etc.).
2.3 Application areas, use according to the intended purpose
The ted. upright standing frame is a class 1 medical product for indoors
and is used for upright standing with severely impaired or non-existent
ability to stand.
2.3.1 Indications
The ted. upright trainer is designed for users with significantly pronounced
impairment of standing and walking, especially due to:
• Bilateral cerebral palsy (spastic form)
• Spina bifida
• Paraplegia
• neuro-degenerative diseases like muscular dystrophy or
muscular atrophy in early stages
• genetic diseases like Rett Syndrome
in early stages or Trisomy 21
• Morbus Perthes
• orthopaedic diseases of the hips or lower extremities
• Hypotension
• general developmental delays
The assumption of a standing position with the upright trainer is used to
prepare for walking training and/or to achieve positive eects of an upright
body position (e.g. with regard to cardiovascular regulation/bone metab-
olism/peristalsis/urinary diversion and/or to prevent decubitus, thrombosis
or joint contractures, promotion of head control and arm function and im-
provement of spatial awareness).
The ted. upright standing frame improves concentration and stamina, fa-
cilitates communication and interaction, and also oers restless and mo-
bile users an alternative to sitting.

If the individual therapy requires a change in location of the upright frame
and the spatial conditions permit a change in location, this is possible with
the ted.
2.3.2 Contraindications
In general, the indications for standing should be approved by a doctor or
orthopedist. It should therefore be clarified prior to procurement whether
contraindications exist for the patient. In general, any type of pain repre-
sents a contraindication. No upright standing frame should be conducted
without establishing prior to use whether the patient has an abnormal foot
position which requires medical attention.
Depending on the disease symptoms and therapy, please clarify how long
the user may stand in the upright standing frame. The following symptoms
may occur in some cases:
• Circulation problems
• Pain in the leg and back areas
• Spastic seizures
It must also be clarified whether the user can be brought into full standing
position. For many users, only standing in a bent position is possible at first.
Never correct posture using force or strong pressure!

2.4 Use not in accordance with the intended purpose / warning guide-
lines
• Ensure that the upright standing frame is used by only one user.
• Never leave the user without supervision in the upright standing frame.
• Correct usage of the upright standing frame requires precise and care-
ful training of the accompanying person.
• The max. load (see Point 5) may not be exceeded.
• Do not use the upright standing frame if it has defective, worn or
missing parts.
• For reasons of fire safety, the upright standing frame may not be placed
close to an open fire or any other strong source of heat such as electric
or gas heaters.
• Only use accessories and spare parts made by Schuchmann, otherwise
you will endanger the user.
• Only use the upright standing frame if all components have been
correctly mounted and adjusted.
• When adjusting the upright trainer there is the risk of trapping or
crushing limbs.
• Users who have diculty reading must have someone read these
Instructions for use aloud so that they understand how to use the
standing frame.

2.8 General settings
The ted. upright standing frame is delivered completely assembled and
in the smallest possible setting. Before the user is placed into the upright
trainer, the necessary adjustments must be carried out.

2.9 Getting in and out
Once all adjustments have been carried out,
please first lock all four castors for getting in
and out (A).
2.9.1 Swivel arm pelvic frame
Now open the swivel arm of the pelvic frame
(B). To open the pelvic frame, please press
the safety button (C) and pull the bolt out
of the lock. Now you can move the user in
their wheelchair / buggy etc towards the
upright trainer and apply the locking devic-
es on the respective device. Lift the user from
the wheelchair / buggy and place them into
the upright trainer before closing the pelvic
frame once more. Now you can undertake
the fine adjustments on the individual com-
ponents. Please observe here the guidelines
on the adjustment of the respective compo-
nents (see Point 3).
2.9.2 Pelvic guidance support pad with lat-
eral guide and pelvic strap
The pelvic strap (D) can easily be opened or
closed using a magnetic plug lock (E). Simply
pull the strap (F) to open.
Now you can move the user in their wheel-
chair / buggy etc towards the upright train-
er and apply the locking devices on the
respective device. Lift the user from the
wheelchair / buggy and place them into
the upright trainer before closing the pelvic
frame once more. To close, guide the pelvic
strap (D) back to the plug lock (E), which then
closes automatically. The strap can be ad-
justed in length via the strap guide.
After each adjustment, please retighten all
screw connections!

Settings and adjustments to the product or accessories may only be made
by people who have been given the necessary instructions by a trained
therapist or product specialist. Please ensure that none of the user's ex-
tremities are in the respective area when making adjustments of any kind
to minimise the risk of injury. All adjustments can be made with standard
tools (e.g. Allen key, screwdriver or spanner).
3.1 Height adjustment on the central column
The black inner profile, which is located in the
upper part on the central column, can be
pulled out and is thus adjustable in height.
In order to adjust the central column in the
upper area (A), loosen the screws (B+C) and
bring it into the required position.
Hold the carriage tightly, otherwise it will slip into the central column under its
own weight.
Only undertake height adjustment if there is no-one in the upright trainer!
After each adjustment, please retighten all screw connections!
3.2 Foot plate
The foot plate (D) oers plenty of space to
position the feet, and is permanently at-
tached to the frame.
To facilitate placement of the feet, heel edg-
es with foot straps (E- see Point 3.3) can be
mounted to the foot plate.

3.3 Heel edges with foot straps
The heel edges (A) are mounted on the foot
plate. They can be adjusted in depth. Also,
the distance between the elements can be
adjusted.
To set the depth, undo the two screws (B),
bring the heel edges (A) into the desired po-
sition and tighten the screws (B) again.
To change the distance between the two
heel edges (A), undo the screws (C) bring the heel edges (A) into the de-
sired position and tighten the screws (C) again. The foot straps have mag-
netic locks. These close automatically, if the strap is close to the magnetic
lock. Press the button (D) to open the locks.
3.4 Knee support pads
There are 2 dierent knee support pad
mounts to hold the knee supports with patel-
la-recess (E- see point 3.4.3) and the flexible
knee positioner with adjustable positioning
straps (F- see point 3.4.4). With these, the re-
spective supports can be adjusted in height,
angle and depth (see point 3.4.1 + 3.4.2).
If the height adjustment range should be too
small for size 1, the mount (I) at the mounting
bracket (H) from below to get to the desired
position. To this end, loosen the clamping lever
(I), remove it completely and fix the mount (G)
including pad from below with the clamping
lever (I) on the am mounting bracket (H).
After each adjustment, please retighten all screw
connections!

3.4.1 Knee support pad mount (rigid)
The rigid knee pad mount (A) can be adjusted
in height, angle and in depth. The distance of
the individual knee pads to each other can
also be adjusted here.
To adjust the height, please hold the respec-
tive knee support, undo the wing screw (B)
and bring the knee support into the desired
position. To adjust the depth, the angle and
the width, undo the clamping lever (C) and
bring the respective knee support into the
desired position.
After each adjustment, please retighten all screw
connections!
3.4.2 Knee support pad mount (spherical head)
The knee support pad mount with spherical
head (D), just like the rigid version, can be ad-
justed in height, angle and depth. Moreover,
the distance of the individual knee support to
each other can be adjusted here (see point
3.4.1).
Additionally, the respective knee support
can be adjusted individually to the knee po-
sition using the spherical head. To this end,
undo the cylinder head screw (E), bring the
knee support into the desired position (F)and
tighten the cylinder head screw (E) again.
After each adjustment, please retighten all screw
connections!

3.4.3 Knee supports with patella recess
The knee supports with patella recess (A) can
be adjusted in height, angle and depth (see
Point 3.4.1). With the knee support mount
(spherical head), each knee support can be
individually adjusted to the knee position (see
Point 3.4.2).
The lateral guides (B) of each knee support
can easily be bent inwards or outwards by
hand to provide the knee with more space or
lateral guidance.
3.4.4 Flexible knee positioner (FKP)
The flexible knee positioners (C) can be ad-
justed in height, angle and depth using the
rigid knee support mount (see Point 3.4.1).
With the knee support mount (spherical
head), each knee support can be individu-
ally adjusted to the knee position (see Point
3.4.2).
The flexible knee positioners (C) have posi-
tioning straps (D) that uniformly distribute the
pressure on the knee and thus prevent the
occurrence of individual pressure marks.
For optimal positioning of the knees, the po-
sitioning straps (D) can be adjusted inde-
pendently of each other. Like this the position
of the respective knee can be changed within
theflexiblekneepositioner(C).Tothisend,loos-
en the straps (D) on the positioning straps (E),
bring the knee by lengthening or shortening
the straps (E) into the desire position and close them again afterwards.
After each adjustment close the positioning straps again!

3.5 Pelvic guidance support pad with lateral guide and pelvic strap
The pelvic positioner with lateral guide (A) is
equipped with a pelvic strap (B) can be ad-
justed in height and width.
The height can be adjusted by adjusting
the middle column (see Point 3.1) and also
the position of the pelvic positioner can be
changed directly on the middle column. To
do this, loosen the screws (C) on the rear of
the pelvic guide support pads and bring
them into the required position.
To set the width, fold up the two covers (D)
on the rear of the support pad , undo the
screws (E), and bring the two lateral guides
into the desired position.
The back strap (B) can easily be opened or
closed using a magnetic plug lock (F). Simply
pull the strap (G) to open. To close, guide the
back strap (B) back to the plug lock (F), which
then closes automatically. The strap can be
adjusted in length via the strap guide.
After each adjustment, please retighten all
screw connections!

3.6 Chest support pad with lateral guide
The chest support pad with lateral guide is
adjustable in width and height, also with op-
tional angular adjustment. In addition, the
height can also be adjusted via the height
adjustment on the central column (see Point
3.1).
In order to adjust the height on the chest
support pad itself, please loosen the four
hexagon socket screws (B) and bring the
chest support pad into the required position.
In order to adjust the width and the angle,
please remove the chest support pad cov-
er, loosen the four hexagon socket screws (A)
and bring the lateral guide into the re-
quired position. In order to adjust the an-
gle of the adjustable chest support pad (C),
bring the chest support pad into the re-
quired position. In order to adjust the depth
of the chest support pad, loosen the two Allen
screws (D) and bring the chest support pad
into the desired position.
3.7 Back strap
The back strap is attached to the chest sup-
port pad with lateral guide. The strap can be
opened or closed using a plug lock (E). The
strap can be adjusted in length via the strap
guide. Height and depth adjustment can be
carried out via the chest support pad with
side guidance (see Point 3.10)
After each adjustment, please retighten all screw connections!

3.8 Therapy table
There is a total of four therapy tables avail-
able: One version without a bowl and arm
supports, one version with a bowl, one ver-
sion with arm supports and one version with
a bowl and arm rests. The therapy table can
be adjusted in depth, height and angle.
The height adjustment of the therapy ta-
ble is undertaken via the telescopic central
column (see Point 3.1). In order to adjust the
depth, please loosen the wing screws (A) on
both sides under the therapy table and move
this into the required position. Depending on
the centre column (standard or long), dier-
ent table heights are achieved (see Point 5).
The angle of the therapy table can be ad-
justed using the support strut. To do this,
loosen the wing screws (B) and bring the
therapy table into the required position.
Hold the therapy table tightly, because it can slip into the pipe as a result of its
own weight!
After each adjustment, please retighten all screw connections!
3.8.1 Therapy table with bowl
Optionally, there are two therapy tables with
bowl available. To use the recess (C), please
remove the cover (D) . If the recess (C) is no
longer required, replace the cover (D) onto it.

3.8.2 Adjustable arm supports
Two therapy table versions are available
with adjustable arm supports (A).
The adjustable arm supports for the thera-
py table are adjustable in width. In order to
adjust the width, loosen the screws (B) on the
underside of the therapy table and bring the
adjustable arm supports into the required
position.
After each adjustment, please retighten all
screw connections!

20 4. Cleaning and maintaining.
4.1 Cleaning and disinfecting
4.1.1 Cleaning
Please clean all frame elements regularly with a sponge
or damp cloth; making sure that excess water is re-
moved. Please clean with a mild household detergent
for more severe dirt. Thorough drying of the cleaned
areas is important.
All fabrics that cannot be removed can be wiped with
a moist cloth. For all removable fabrics please pay at-
tention to the sewn-in care labels (such as A+ B) on the
respective element.
Please also pay attention to our general cleaning and
hygiene advice. This can be found at
www.schuchmann.co.uk/products/general-guidelines/.
4.1.2 Disinfection
Various products can be used for surface disinfection of metal and plastic
parts.
Liquid disinfectants are available as ready-to-use solutions that are
sprayed on and evenly applied with a soft cloth. Alternatively, wipes pre-
soaked with disinfectant can be used to wipe the products over the entire
surface. In both cases, care must be taken to ensure complete wetting.
Disinfection in fully automatic disinfection systems is also possible and rec-
ommended.
The exposure times may vary and can be found in the manufacturer's in-
structions for the products used.
4.2 Servicing
Please carry out a visual inspection on a daily basis and regularly check
the product for cracks, breaks, missing parts and malfunctions. In case of
a defect or malfunction, please contact Schuchmann UK or your product
specialist (see Point 7.5).
4.3 Maintenance
For reasons of user safety and to retain product liability, the product must
be subjected to maintenance by Schuchmann UK at least once a year
(see Point 7.5). The maintenance work carried out must be documented in
the maintenance plan (see Point 4.3.2).
