INTRODUCTION The SIEMENS Model HMS-S and HMS-D Manual
Stations a e add essable devices containing advanced
cont ol panel communication technology. This technol-
ogy, which p ovides two-di ection communication with
the cont ol panel, p oduces an Intelligent Initiating
Device. The HMS-S is single action; the HMS-D is
double action.
PROGRAMMING Refe to Figu e 1 to locate the opening on the HMS cove that allows access to the
p og amming holes which a e on the HMS p inted ci cuit boa d.
To connect the HMS to the DPU P og amme /Teste , inse t the plug f om the DPU
cable p ovided with the P og amme /Teste into the opening on the HMS as shown
in Figu e 2. Because HMS devices a e pola ity insensi-
tive, the p og amming plug can be inse ted into the
p og amming holes in eithe di ection.
To prevent potential damage to the DPU DO NOT
connect an HMS to the DPU until at least one wire is
removed from terminals 1 or 2 of the HMS.
Follow the inst uctions in the DPU Manual
(P/N 315-033260) to p og am the HMS to the desi ed
add ess. Reco d the device add ess on the label
located on the HMS f ont panel. The HMS can now
be installed and wi ed to the system.
OPERATION The HMS-S and HMS-D manual stations ope ate with the Fi eFinde -XLS Cont ol
Panel via the DLC Device Loop Ca d.
The HMS-S and HMS-D manual station housings have a pull down leve that locks in
position afte eleasing a sp ing loaded switch. (See Figu e 4.) To indicate the manual
station is activated, the pull down leve emains down and locked until the station is
physically eset.
The HMS-D has an additional leve labeled PUSH IN which must be ope ated fi st.
Both models a e eset by opening the hinged housing cove with an Allen key and
then closing and locking the cove .

NOTES:
1. Recommended wire sizes:
18 AWG minimum, 14 AWG maximum
2. Wire larger than 14 AWG can damage the connector.
3. When using shielded cable without metal raceway or with nonmetallic
raceway, the shields should e terminated at the device ground
terminal. If the device ox is already grounded y another means, such as
eing mounted to a grounded structure, the wire shields should e
continuous and must e grounded solely at the point of origin; for
example, at the control panel.
4. When using shielded cable with metal raceway, the wiring shields shall
e continuous and grounded solely at the point of origin. The device
ground terminal shall e connected to the grounded device ox.
5. When using metal raceway without shielded cable, connect the device
ground terminal to the grounded device ox.
6. Metal raceway should e thoroughly grounded throughout the system.
7. In supervisory: HMS-S and HMS-D draw 1mA.
8. The HMS-S and HMS-D are polarity insensitive devices. Line 1 and Line 2
can e either line of the loop.
