2.2 Safety regulations for the method of operation
National standards, regulations and legislation
Siemens products are developed and produced in compliance with the relevant
European and international safety standards. Should additional national or local
safety standards or legislation concerning the planning, mounting, installation,
operation or disposal of the product apply at the place of operation, then these
must also be taken into account together with the safety regulations in the product
documentation.

●Work on electrical installations may only be carried out by qualified
electricians or by instructed persons working under the guidance and
supervision of a qualified electrician, in accordance with the electrotechnical
regulations.
●Wherever possible disconnect products from the power supply when carrying
out commissioning, maintenance or repair work on them.
●Lock volt-free areas to prevent them being switched back on again by mistake.
●Label the connection terminals with external voltage using a
'DANGER External voltage' sign.
●Route mains connections to products separately and fuse them with their own,
clearly marked fuse.
●Fit an easily accessible disconnecting device in accordance with EN 62368-1
outside the installation.
●Produce earthing as stated in local safety regulations.

CAUTION
Noncompliance with the following safety regulations

●Compliance with the following regulations is required.
●Specialist electrical engineering knowledge is required for installation.
●Only an expert is permitted to carry out installation work.
Incorrect installation can take safety devices out of operation unbeknown to a
layperson.
Mounting, installation, commissioning and maintenance
●If you require tools such as a ladder, these must be safe and intended for the
work in question.
●When starting the voice alarm system, make sure that no unstable states can
occur.
●Make sure that all points described in the 'Testing and checking the
functionality of the products' section below are observed.
●You may only put controls into normal operation once work to test and check
the functionality of the products has been completed and the site has been
handed over to the customer.
Testing and checking the functionality of the products
●Prevent incorrect triggering of the remote transmission.
●When you test building equipment or activate devices from third-party
companies, you must liaise with the people responsible for these.
●No one must be injured and no damage to the building equipment must occur
when voice alarm controls are activated for test purposes. The following
instructions must be observed:
– Use the correct potential for the activation; as a rule, this will be the
potential of the building equipment.
– Only check controls up to the interface (relay with blocking option).
– Make sure that only the controls to be tested are activated.
●Inform people before testing alarm devices and determine any potential panic
reactions.
●Inform people of any noise or smoke emission which may occur.
●Inform the corresponding alarm and fault receiving centers before performing a
test remote transmission.
Modifications to the system design and the products
Modifications to the system and to individual products may lead to faults,
malfunctioning and safety risks. Written confirmation must be obtained from
Siemens and the corresponding safety bodies for modifications or additions.
Modules and spare parts
●Components and spare parts must comply with the technical specifications
defined by Siemens. Only use products specified or recommended by
Siemens.
●Only use fuses with the specified fuse characteristics.
●Wrong battery types and improper battery changing lead to a risk of explosion.
Only use the same battery type or an equivalent battery type recommended by
Siemens.
●Batteries must be disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner. Observe
national guidelines and regulations.

Disregard of the safety regulations
Before they are delivered, Siemens products are tested to ensure they function
correctly when used properly. Siemens disclaims all liability for damage or injuries
caused by the incorrect application of the instructions or the disregard of danger
warnings contained in the documentation. This applies in particular to the following

3 Structure and function
3.1 Description
The Loop isolator (100V) PCA2005-A1 is used in voice-alarm evacuation systems
with a loop topology. The Loop isolator (100V) monitors the speaker line from its
loudspeaker connection to the speaker for short-circuit and open lines. The matrix
monitors the loop for short-circuit, open lines and ground fault.
If a short-circuit occurs on the loudspeaker line, the loop isolators identify the
defective cable segment and disconnect it. The loop concerned is then supplied
with power from two sides. This does not impair the function of the remaining
loudspeakers.

Each Loop isolator (100V) has a built-in cutoff relay. If a short circuit occurs, the
relevant cable segment is disconnected from the rest of the loop. The short-circuit
can either arise between two Loop isolator (100V) or at the loudspeaker connection
of a Loop isolator (100V). The cable segment between two Loop isolator (100V)
and the loudspeaker connection at the Loop isolator (100V) concerned with the
OUT output are always isolated simultaneously (as per Fig. Loop isolator (100V) X)
Properties

●Isolates one or more short circuits in a 100 V loudspeaker loop
●Isolation time of under 4 seconds an alarm condition, under 30 seconds in
normal operation
●If a short circuit occurs, only the cable segment concerned is isolated
●The Loop isolator (100V) monitors the speaker line from its loudspeaker
connection to the speaker for short-circuit and open lines.
●Suitable for 100 V loudspeaker systems
●No noise emissions at the loudspeaker by the Loop isolator (100V)
●Status display on the Loop isolator (100V) via LED
●Optional external Loop isolator LED can be connected for status display
●Loop returned to initial condition automatically after troubleshooting

4.1 Loop audio matrices
The 'Loop isolator (100V)' can be connected to the following audio matrices:
●PC2003-A1, Cerberus PACE, Novigo, 'Digital audio matrix (4/4/16)'
●PC1001-A2, Novigo, 'Voice alarm panel Core 400'
●PC1002-A2, Novigo, 'Voice alarm panel Core 1000'
●PC1001-A3, Cerberus PACE, 'Voice alarm panel Compact 400'
●PC1002-A3, Cerberus PACE, 'Voice alarm panel Compact 1000'
4.2 Topologies
The following topologies are possible with the Loop isolator (100V).
Loop with loop isolators at every loudspeaker
This topology is the most reliable. If a short-circuit occurs on the loop, just one
single loop segment fails. The only loudspeakers to fail are those at the OUT
connection of the loop isolator concerned.

This topology is the most cost-effective. Some loudspeakers are connected
between loop isolators. If a short-circuit occurs on the loop, all the loudspeakers in
the segment concerned fail.

Loop without loudspeakers at loop isolators and with
loudspeakers between the loop isolators
It is also possible to use the loop isolators without loudspeakers at the Loop
isolator (100V) itself. In this case, we recommend terminating the loudspeaker
output at the loop isolator with a 12 kΩ/ 1 W EOL resistor; this guarantees an
isolation time of < 4 seconds if a short-circuit occurs in alarm operation. A 12 kΩ
EOL resistor consumes 0.85 W of power, which must be taken into account when
calculating the amplifier power.

If the loudspeaker output is not to be terminated at the loop isolator, this must be
configured using the SIL switch. If a short-circuit occurs in alarm operation in this
configuration, the isolation time increases to approximately 15 seconds.
●To deactivate loudspeaker monitoring: set SIL switch 8 [4] to ON.

4.3 Notes
●It is allowed to mix speaker loops and stub lines on one loop audio matrix (See
Loop audio matrices [➙17]). The supervision of stub lines is limited to
impedance supervision. The usage of 'EOL3 (active)' PCA2004-A1 is
prohibited.
●It is allowed to connect max. two speaker loops to one amplifier. Both loops
must be in the same speaker zone.
●It could occur on background music with high level that a fault display will be
delayed and the loop isolator LED doesn’t show the correct status. This
malfunction disappears as soon as the sound level drops.
In order to further increase the reliability and the availability of the loudspeaker
systems, the following planning is recommended:
●Set up two loop segments in one room separated by loop isolators and install
at least one speaker in each segment
●Set up two separated loops in one room/building, connecting to one power
amplifier respectively
●Set up two separated loops in one room/building, connecting to one audio
matrix respectively
●Set up two separated loops in one room/building, connecting to one cabinet
respectively
