General information
The instructions must always be available in the national language.
If these are not available, the seller must clarify this with SKYLOTEC
GmbH before resale. The instructions must be made available to
the user. The equipment may only be used by persons in good
physical and mental health. These persons must be trained in safe
use and have the necessary knowledge, or be under the supervision
ofsuchaperson.Nomodicationsoradditionsmaybemadetothe
equipment. Emergency or rescue plans must be in place for all
eventualities. It must be possible to carry out rescue operations as
quickly as possible.

2.) Fall arrest system EN 363, overview of types
Afall arrest system (Fig. 1) is made up of the individual components
shown and may only be used with tested and approved components
within the operating conditions described and for the intended
purpose. When a complete system is supplied, individual
components must not be replaced without the approval of the
manufacturer. When combining individual components, it must be
ensured that the safe function of each component and of the
assembled fall arrest system is always guaranteed, as there is a
danger to life and limb in the event of non-compliance. Only a
harness EN 361 (fall arrest eyelet marked „A“) may be used in the
fall arrest system. The surface to which the anchor point is attached
and the connecting elements must be able to withstand the load.
The position of the anchor point must be chosen in such a way that
the fall height is kept to a minimum. Height safety devices
(hereinafter referred to as HSG) are used exclusively for the
protection of persons who are exposed to the risk of falling during
their work (e.g. on ladders, roofs, scaffolding, etc.). The user can
move freely during the ascent and descent. Due to the integrated
spring, the lanyard made of steel rope (HK PLUS) / PES webbing
(KOMPAKT) is automatically retracted into the device.
In the event of a fall, the device locks as soon as the fall speed
reaches approx. 1.5m/s. The force that occurs in the event of a fall
is absorbed by the spring. The force that occurs during a fall is
reduced to a maximum impact force of 6 kN. After a fall, the HSG
must be withdrawn from use and checked by a competent person.
If the test result is negative, the HSG must be taken out of service
immediately and disposed of!

HSGs must not be used over bulk material or similar materials in
which it is possible to sink. The required blocking speed will not be
reached in such a case and the sinking cannot be stopped. (Fig.
6.14)
An HSG can be attached on the attachment side (1) by means of
karabiner EN 362 or by means of karabiner EN 362 and lanyard EN
354, with a minimum breaking load of 22kN, to a suitable attachment
point(min.12kN).Thehousings(g.1,item2)mustnotreston
edges.Theextendablelanyard(g.1,item3)madeofsteelrope/
webbing must not be obstructed in the direction of movement and
shouldundernocircumstancesbeguidedoveredgesordeections
in order to avoid slack rope formation (6.10).
Caution: To extend the anchor point, never use damping or other
components designed for deformation that have not been tested
together with the HSG. This could disable the blocking function of
the device!

3.) Vertical use
The anchorage point should always be as perpendicular as
possible above the person in order to minimise a pendulum fall. If
the anchor point is sideways, there is a risk of hitting the side of the
building. To minimise a pendulum fall, the working area or the
lateral movement to the centre axis must be limited to max. 1.5m
(6.11). If this is not possible or if larger lateral movements are
required, do not use single anchor points but e.g. anchor devices

type C (the combination must be tested together) or type D
according to EN 795. The device and the movable anchor point
must be able to align themselves freely.
Before each use, it must be ensured that the required ground
clearance HLiisinanycasesufcientlydimensionedtoguarantee
the effectiveness of the system and to avoid impact with the ground
or other obstacles (Fig. 2):

4.) Horizontal use (HK PLUS only)
The HK PLUS units have been developed for horizontal use
independent of the layer. To protect the marking and for better
legibility during use, it is recommended to place the device on the
horizontal surface with the marking facing upwards (Fig. 3). The
edge suitability was proven by drop tests over a grade-free edge
made of steel with a radius r = 0.5 mm. Based on these tests, the
HK PLUS devices are applicable in case of a fall over edge. If there
is a risk of falling over an edge, the following must be taken into
account regardless of these tests:
• If the risk assessment carried out before starting work shows
that the edge is particularly „sharp“ (r < 0.5mm) and/ or „not
free of burrs“, it must be
• a fall over this edge is prevented by technical or
organisational measures, or
• anedgeprotectoristtedandusedor
• contact is made with the manufacturer.
• The anchor point must not be below the user‘s standing
surface, e.g. on a roof or platform.
• Thedeectionattheedgemustbeatleast90°.
• Slack rope is to be avoided.
• When working laterally offset to the anchor point up to max.
1.5 m, care must be taken to minimise the risk of a pendulum
fall. If this is not possible, use other suitable anchor devices,
e.g. EN 795 type C (combination must be tested) or D.
• For the calculation of the required clear height (HLi) below the
edge, the information in Fig. 3 must be observed. Note: When
used with an EN 795 type C anchorage system, the
combinationmusthavebeenofciallytestedandthedeection

of this system must be taken into account when calculating
the required clear height HLi in the event of a fall. The
information in the corresponding instructions must be
observed.
• Note: In the event of a fall over an edge, there is a risk of
injury to the user through contact with the building / structure.
• Additionalrescuemeasuresmustbedenedandtrainedfor
this application.
Before each use, make sure that the required ground clearance HLi
isalwayssufcienttoensuretheeffectivenessofthesystemandto
avoid impact with the ground or other obstacles (Fig. 3):

5.) HSG with lifting function (HR only, Fig. 4)
With the HR units, it is also possible to lift or lower a person hanging
in the unit. To do this, remove the seal on the safety pin (9) of the
hand crank (6) and pull out the safety pin (9). Open the Velcro
fastener on the crank handle (6) and unfold the handle (5). Slowly
turn the crank clockwise until the gear inside engages with an
audiblenoise.Theshaft(8)thathasjumpedforwardmustbeush
with the leading ring (7) at the front (Fig. 4). Only then are the gears
fully engaged. Now make a complete clockwise turn to unlock the
locking function of the HSG. The person can now be lifted by
turning the crank clockwise and lowered by turning it anti-clockwise.
Please note that the person must not be lowered more than 2 m
during the rescue procedure. If it is necessary to lower the person
over a longer distance, a rescue device according to EN 341 must
be used. If the rope is completely retracted or the person is lowered
and slack is formed, do not continue to crank. Otherwise there is a
risk of damage to the device. The lifting and lowering function must
not be used if there is no weight (min. 30kg) on the rope. Continuous
use as a winch or personnel lifting device is prohibited.
6.) Use
A visual and functional check must be carried out before use. The
HSG, including the full length of the retractable lanyard, shall be
inspected for damage due to deformation, corrosion, fall loading or
wear and the fall indicator (on the lanyard karabiner) shall be
checked (6.4). If the fall indicator has been triggered, immediately
withdraw the HSG from use.

The retractable lanyard must be able to be pulled out and retracted
withoutdifculty.
Caution: Never let go of the lanyard and allow it to retract uncon-
trolled. (6.1)
Tocheckthelockingfunction(6.2),pullquicklyandrmlyonthe
line to ensure that the HSG locks. Listen for any unusual noises.
The HSG shall be withdrawn from use and an inspection by an
expert shall be carried out if
• the fall indicator has been triggered (6.4),
• other faults are found, or
• there is the slightest doubt about the function or safe condition
of the device.
The HSG must not be used near electrical lines (6.3). The
carabiners must always be correctly closed before use (6.5, 6.6). A
transverse or buckling load must be avoided in any case (6.7, 6.8).
The force applied to the structure in the event of a fall must not
exceed 6kN (6.9). Slack rope should be avoided (6.10). Do not knot
the retractable connector (6.12) and do not use it in the lacing gear
(6.13). Do not use over bulk material or similar substances in which
you can sink (6.14). Avoid contact with aggressive substances/
chemicals.
Note: Use the HSG only as intended and NOT e.g. as a holding
rope (i.e. do not hold onto or pull yourself up by the HSG) and NOT
for suspending/securing loads.
7.) Interchangeable marking (HK PLUS 3-10 only)
On the HK PLUS 3-10 units, the marking can be adjusted according
to the application (horizontal or vertical). To do this, use a
screwdriver to lever the label with the min./max. nominal load and
the edge suitability out of the lock (7.1-7.2), turn it (7.3) and clip it
back in according to the application (7.4).
8.) Inspection and maintenance
The safety of the user depends on the effectiveness and durability
of the equipment. Before and after each use, check the product for
functionality, damage (e.g. kink or strand break in the wire rope,
wear) or alterations and for legibility of the marking (no additional
mechanical markings allowed). Regular inspections are necessary
and must be carried out at least once a year by a competent person
according to the manufacturer‘s recommendations. After 5 years at
the latest, maintenance (documented disassembly and intensive
inspection) must be carried out, which may only be performed by
SKYLOTEC or a service company trained by SKYLOTEC. The
intervals for regular inspections and maintenance depend on the
frequency of use and the external conditions of use (dust, moisture,
heat, etc.) in which the HSG is used. If there is any doubt about
safe use or after a fall (fall indicator triggered), the product must be
withdrawn from use immediately until a competent person has
given written approval for further use.

Any repair of damaged and/or defective products or components is
prohibited!
Clean soiled products with lukewarm water (possibly with the
addition of neutral soap) and a soft brush. Dry the wet products
naturally and avoid direct exposure to heat.
9.) Storage and transport
Store the product in a dry place protected from direct sunlight.
Incorrect storage can have a negative effect on the service life of
the product! Transport the product/components in suitable
containers, protected from direct sunlight and stress, to prevent
damage.
10.) Lifetime
The max. service life of 10 years (production date until ready for
discarding) results from the storage period before delivery to the
end consumer and the period of use.
With the storage period of max. 2 years before delivery to the end
consumer or before purchase, it must be noted that the products
are
-storedwithoutextremetemperatureuctuations
- protected from UV radiation, moisture, chemicals and harmful/
aggressive environmental conditions and
- stored in undamaged original packaging.
The service life begins with the delivery to the end user and ends at
the latest with the expiry of the max. service life of 10 years. After
delivery to the end user (proof by e.g. purchase receipt/delivery
note with serial/batch number), regular inspections are required in
accordancewithcountry-specicrequirements.Regardlessofthe
max. service life, the discard age depends on the condition of the
product, its frequency of use and the external conditions of use.
Every PPE loses durability in the course of its service life. The
service life is determined by use, thermal, chemical, mechanical
andharmful/aggressiveinuences.

Allgemeine Informationen
Die Anleitung muss immer in Landessprache vorhanden sein.
Sollte diese nicht vorliegen ist dies vor dem Weiterverkauf vom
Verkäufer mit der SKYLOTEC GmbH abzuklären. Die Anleitung
muss dem Benutzer zur Verfügung gestellt werden. Die Ausrüstung
darf nur von Personen in gutem körperlichem und geistigem
Gesundheitszustand benutzt werden. Diese müssen in der
sicheren Benutzung ausgebildet sein und die notwendigen
Kenntnisse haben, oder unter Beaufsichtigung einer solchen
Person stehen. Es dürfen keine Veränderungen oder Ergänzungen
an der Ausrüstung vorgenommen werden. Notfall- bzw. Rettungs-
pläne müssen für alle Eventualitäten vorhanden sein.
Rettungsmaßnahmen müssen möglichst schnell durchgeführt
werden können.

2.) Auffangsystem EN 363, Typenübersicht
Ein Auffangsystem (Abb. 1) setzt sich aus den dargestellten
Einzelkomponenten zusammen und darf nur mit geprüften und
zugelassenen Komponenten innerhalb der beschriebenen
EinsatzbedingungenundfürdenvorgesehenenVerwendungszweck
benutzt werden. Bei der Lieferung eines vollständigen Systems
dürfen einzelne Komponenten nicht ohne Freigabe durch den
Hersteller ersetzt werden. Bei der Kombination von Einzel-
komponenten ist darauf zu achten, dass die sichere Funktion jeder
Komponente und des zusammengesetzten Auffangsystems immer
gewährleistet ist, da bei Nichteinhaltung Gefahr für Leib und Leben
droht. Im Auffangsystem darf nur ein Auffanggurt EN 361 (mit „A“
gekennzeichnete Auffangöse) verwendet werden. Der Untergrund,
an dem der Anschlagpunkt befestigt wird, sowie die verbindenden
Elemente müssen der Belastung standhalten können. Die Lage
des Anschlagpunktes ist so zu wählen , dass die Absturzhöhe auf
ein Mindestmaß beschränkt wird. Höhensicherungsgeräte (im
Folgenden als HSG bezeichnet) dienen ausschließlich zur
Absicherung von Personen, die während Ihrer Arbeit der Gefahr
eines Absturzes ausgesetzt sind (z. B. auf Leitern, Dächern,
Gerüsten, usw.). Während des Auf- und Absteigens kann sich der
Benutzer frei bewegen. Durch die integrierte Feder wird das
Verbindungsmittel aus Stahlseil (HK PLUS) / PES Gurtband
(KOMPAKT) selbstständig in das Gerät eingezogen.

Im Falle eines Absturzes blockiert das Gerät, sobald die Fall-
geschwindigkeit ca. 1,5m/s erreicht. Die bei einem Sturz auftreten-
de Kraft wird dabei auf einen maximalen Fangstoß von 6 kN
reduziert. Nach einem Sturz ist das HSG der Benutzung zu
entziehen und von einer sachkundigen Person zu überprüfen. Bei
einem negativen Prüfergebnis muss es umgehend aus dem
Verkehr gezogen und ensorgt werden!
Über Schüttgut oder ähnliche Stoffe, in denen man versinken kann,
dürfen HSG‘s nicht eingesetzt werden. Die erforderliche Blockier-
geschwindigkeit wird in einem solchen Fall nicht erreicht und das
Versinken kann nicht gestoppt werden. (Abb. 6.14)
Ein HSG kann an der Anschlagseite (1) mittels Karabiner EN 362
oder mittels Karabiner EN 362 und Verbindungsmittel EN 354, mit
einer Mindestbruchlast 22kN, an einem geeigneten Anschlagpunkt
(min. 12kN) angeschlagen werden. Die Gehäuse (Abb. 1, Pos. 2)
dürfen nicht auf Kanten auiegen. Das ausziehbare
Verbindungsmittel (Abb. 1, Pos. 3) aus Stahlseil / Gurtband darf in
der Bewegungsrichtung nicht behindert werden und sollte
keinesfalls über Kanten oder Umlenkungen geführt werden, um
eine Schlaffseilbildung zu vermeiden (6.10).
Achtung: Um den Anschlagpunkt zu verlängern, niemals
dämpfende oder andere für eine Verformung ausgelegte
Komponenten verwenden, die nicht gemeinsam mit dem HSG
geprüft wurden. Dies könnte die Blockierfunktion des Gerätes
außer Kraft setzen!

3.) Vertikale Verwendung
Der Anschlagpunkt sollte sich immer möglichst lotrecht über der
Personbenden,umeinenPendelsturz zu minimieren. Bendet
sich der Anschlagpunkt seitlich, so besteht die Gefahr des
Anschlagens an seitliche Bauteile. Um einen Pendelsturz zu
minimieren, ist der Arbeitsbereich bzw. die seitliche Bewegung zur
Mittelachse auf max. 1,5m zu begrenzen (6.11). Sollte dies nicht
möglich sein oder größere seitliche Bewegungen erforderlich sein,
sollten keine Einzelanschlagpunkte, sondern z. B. Anschlagein-
richtungen Typ C (die Kombination muss zusammen geprüft sein)
oder Typ D nach EN 795 zu verwenden. Das Gerät und der
bewegliche Anschlagpunkt müssen sich dabei frei ausrichten
können.
Vor jedem Einsatz ist sicherzustellen , dass der benötigte Boden-
freiraum HLi in jedem Fall ausreichend bemessen wird, um die
Wirksamkeit des Systems zu gewährleisten und ein Aufprall auf
den Boden oder andere Hindernisse vermieden wird (Abb. 2):

4.) Horizontale Verwendung (nur HK PLUS)
Die HK PLUS Geräte wurden für die lagenunabhängige horizontale
Nutzung entwickelt. Zum Schutz der Kennzeichnung und zur
besseren Lesbarkeit während der Anwendung wird empfohlen das
Gerät mit der Kennzeichnung nach oben auf die horizontale Fläche
zu legen (Abb. 3). Die Kanteneignung wurde durch Fallversuche
über eine gradfreie Kante aus Stahl mit einem Radius r = 0,5 mm
nachgewiesen. Auf Grundlage dieser Tests sind die HK PLUS
Geräte bei einem Sturz über Kante anwendbar. Wenn die Gefahr
besteht, über eine Kante zu stürzen, muss ungeachtet dieser
Prüfungen folgendes berücksichtigt werden:
• Zeigt die durchgeführte Risikobewertung vor Beginn der
Arbeit, dass die Kante besonders „scharf“ (r < 0,5mm) und/
oder „nicht frei von Graten“ ist, muss
• ein Sturz über diese Kante durch technische oder
organisatorische Maßnahmen verhindert werden oder
• ein Kantenschutz montiert und verwendet werden oder
• Kontakt mit dem Hersteller aufgenommen werden.
