1About this product
The Migration SE office furniture product line by
Steelcase is subject to continuous quality control
during manufacture and distribution. This ensures
fault-free functionality.
The products are designed and manufactured
according to the state of the art (in Germany at the
time of construction) and recognised safety-relevant
rules; however, hazards may still arise. Follow the
respective safety-relevant instructions in this regard.
Malfunctions that could impair safety must be
eliminated immediately. We reserve the right to
make technical changes to the products for technical
reasons.
Steelcase applies a quality management system that
meets the requirements of DIN EN ISO 9001.
The Migration SE system with Up/Down and
Memory control panel is GS-qualified and has
the CE marking.
The electric height adjustment unit type plate is
located on the controller housing, on the columns,
and under the desktop near the control panel.
1.1 Intended use
The Migration SE Desk & Bench product is
exclusively designed to be used as office furniture.
Any other use, or use beyond the specified intended
use is considered improper use.
Intended use also includes following all
instructions in the user guide.
1.1.1 Foreseeable misuse
Improper use of the product may result in dangers to
life and limb as well as property damage. For this
reason, improper use is prohibited. In the event of
improper use, Steelcase assumes no liability for any
damage that may occur and does not guarantee that
the components will function properly.
Possible improper use includes:
■Use for the lifting of loads.
■Use as a climbing aid.
■Permanent storage surface for objects with a
total weight of more than 70 kg.
■Outdoor use.
■Use in damp rooms.
This list does not claim to be exhaustive.
1.1.2 Users with limitations
Injuries to persons or damage to the
desk are possible!
This desk can be used by children 8
years of age and older, as well as by
persons with reduced physical, sensory,
or mental capabilities, or lack of
experience and knowledge, if they are
supervised, or have been instructed in
the safe use of the desk, and
understand the dangers associated with
use of the desk.
Children are not allowed to play with the
device.
Children may not carry out cleaning
tasks or user's maintenance tasks.

2.1 Safety-relevant information
The Migration SE Desk & Bench product should
only be used and operated in faultless condition and
in compliance with the instructions in the user
manual.
The user of the Migration SE desk & Bench
product is obligated to always comply with the
safety-relevant information and warnings in this user
manual.
In addition to the user manual, the general and local
regulations on accident prevention and
environmental protection must be made available
and followed.
2.2 Safety-relevant information
and warnings
To prevent personal injury and damage to property,
this Bedienungsanleitung contains warnings at the
appropriate locations. The symbols and signal words
have the following meaning:

(ElektroG). Electrical and electronic
products must be disposed of

The CE marking is located on the underside of the
desktop and can be viewed at any time.
3.2 Components
The Migration SE Desk & Bench essentially
consists of the following components (the variant
descriptions can be found in the respective
chapters):
■Desktop with plastic parts for desktop mounting
■Software-supported and hardware-supported
stopping device with a sensor for system
protection
■Migration SE Desk:Columns with bolted
65x25x2 mm steel pipe runner, including
adjusting screw to compensate for floor
unevenness, cable duct (optional)
■Migration SE Bench: Columns without runners,
including adjusting screw to compensate for floor
unevenness, cross-member (welded), central
cable duct (optional).
■Top plastic cap, left/right
■Top cantilever, left/right (optional)
■Horizontal structural profile section
■Fixed height vertical variant
■Optional electrical height adjustment:
–Lift 1: Electric motor (720 to 1200), in
column, including software-supported
stopping device and sensor

underside of the desktop.

Display
The control panel cable is connected to
the power lift. The power lift is located
under the desk.
Electrical height adjustment unit
5 Operating and adjusting describes how
to operate the electrical height
adjustment unit.
The electrical height adjustment unit enables the
adjustment and fixed programming for four optimum
desktop heights (sitting height and standing height).
The electrical height adjustment unit essentially
consists of the following components:
■Lift 1: Electric motor 720 to 1200
■Lift 2: Electric motor 650 to 1250
■Control panel (up/down or memory)
■Power lift for height adjustment

Danger of crushing and shearing!
Body parts or objects could be crushed or sheared off as a result of the electrical
height adjustment process.
Maintain sufficient lateral clearance (at least 25 mm) to all surrounding objects, walls, etc.
throughout the lifting range.
Set up the desk in such a manner that there is sufficient space for lift movements and for
the performance of maintenance tasks.

4.1 Safety-relevant information
Risk of injury or damage!
The fastening screws could tear if the desk
is lifted by the desktop or the attached
components.
Always take hold of the desk at the
underframe to transport or move it.
4.2 Interim storage
Whenever the Migration SE Desk & Bench
product is temporarily stored before setup, the
following conditions must be met:
■Intact transport packaging
■The floor must have sufficient load-bearing
capacity
■Dry floor

■Level placement surface
■Temperature range: +10°C to +40°C
■Max. rel. humidity: 80%
4.3 Checking the delivery
contents
After unpacking, check the product immediately for
damage sustained during transport and for
completeness; inform the manufacturer of any
damage as soon as possible.
4.4 Disposing of the packaging
material
The packaging consists of the following materials:
■Outer cardboard packaging
■Polyethylene (PE) shrink film
■Polyethylene (PE) bubble wrap
■Cardboard or polyethylene (PE) edge protectors
■Polyethylene (PE) corner protectors
These materials are recyclable. If assembled by
Steelcase or an assembly company authorised by
Steelcase, the manufacturer will dispose of the
packaging. If you assemble the desk yourself, please
ensure that the packaging material is correctly sorted
by type and returned to the recycling process.
4.5 Assembly
Please follow the provided assembly instructions to
assemble the Migration SE Desk & Bench product.
Steelcase recommends having the
authorised dealer or an assembly
company assemble the furniture.
Attaching accessories
Please follow the provided assembly instructions for
attaching accessories.
4.5.1 Dismantling the product
The Migration SE Desk & Bench product can be
dismantled into its partially-assembled components.
Dismantling should be carried out by skilled and
qualified personnel only. Follow the separate
disassembly instructions.
After dismantling the product, e.g. for transport
reasons:
ATTENTION
Risk of damage to the desktop!
Reassemble the two side frames only with
the appropriate desktop cross-member of
the same desk.
ATTENTION
Risk of damage to lift mechanism!
The values stored in the
controller do not agree with the
settings of a different desk.
4.5.2 Re-assembly
Follow the separate assembly instructions in this
regard.
4.6 Electrical connection
Check the electrical equipment of the
desk. Rectify defects such as loose
connections or damaged cables
immediately.
Attach or detach connectors only when
the equipment is de-energised.
The plug of the desk must be easily
accessible at all times.

4.7 Setting up the product
Setup and use of the product requires detailed
planning. For this Steelcase offers the services of a
separate planning department.
The partially-assembled components for the
Migration SE Desk & Bench product are generally
supplied via authorised dealers or directly from the
manufacturer.
The setup location must meet the following
requirements:
■The floor must have sufficient load-bearing
capacity
■Level placement surface
■Temperature range: +5°C to +35°C
■Max. rel. humidity: 80%
4.8 Height levelling
In order to compensate for uneven floors, you can
raise each foot by up to 1.0 cm with an adjusting
screw.
For a desk that has already been assembled: before
levelling, remove any objects from the desktop.

5.1 Safety-relevant information
The product should only be used and operated in
faultless condition and in compliance with the
instructions in the user manual.
Before adjusting the height of the desk, ensure that:
■The desktop is level. In case of uneven floors,
you can adjust the height using the adjusting
screws on the feet.
■That no person or object (e.g. open doors or
windows) is in the lifting range, or protrudes into
the lifting range.
■No one is on the desk.
■The maximum permissible load-carrying capacity
of the desk is not exceeded.
Crushing or tripping hazard at the
Migration SE Fence!
Risk of minor injury or material damage.
Carefully open and close the fence.
Carefully step over fence feet.
Do not store any objects in the fence.

Optimum desktop height
The adjustment to the optimum desktop height
(sitting height) is crucial for the correct sitting
posture at the workstation. The correct desktop
height setting for the workstation can be found in the
workstation analysis (pursuant to the German
Occupational Safety and Health Act, the German VDU
Ordinance, or accident prevention regulations, for
example). See also BGI 650: Computer and office
workstations. Design guidelines.
Danger due to voltage!
Contact with voltage can cause severe
injury or death due to electric shock.
Attach or detach connectors only when
the equipment is de-energised.
Do not open the housings of the
following components:
–Controller
–Columns
–Control panel
Danger due to voltage!
The metal parts of the desk can become
energised if live cables and connections
are damaged.
Do not earth electrical devices on the
desk frame.
Risk of injuries and damage!
The fastening screws could tear if the desk
is lifted by the desktop or the attached
components.
Always take hold of the desk at the
underframe to transport or move it.
Do not load the CPU holder with a
weight higher than the maximum
permissible weight.
Ensure that the connecting cables of all
devices on the desk are long enough.

5.2 Height adjustment of the
product
The height of the Migration SE Desk & Bench
product is adjusted via an electrically powered,
variable lifting mechanism with the variants Lift 1 and
Lift 2. A direct height adjustment feature is not
available for the Fix variant (only for the desk).
5.2.1 Fix variant
The desk has a fixed height of 740 mm. With the
exception of height adjustment for uneven floors, the
desktop height cannot be adjusted.
5.2.2 Variants Lift 1 and Lift 2
The Migration SE Desk & Bench product can be
variably adjusted by means of an electric motor to a
height between 720 mm and 1200 mm (variant Lift
1) or between 650 mm and 1250 mm (variant Lift 2).
Before first use, ensure that:
■The product has been assembled correctly
■The controller is connected to the motor via
cable
■The control panel is connected to the controller
■All safety-relevant information has been followed
For the power connection
Insert the mains plug into a power point
supplying 220/230 V.
Prior to putting the desk in service, it is
necessary to perform a manual reset.
The relevant instructions can be found in
the description of the corresponding
control panel.
5.2.3 Up/Down control panels
The control panel is located on the left- or right-hand
side, on the underside of the desktop.

ATTENTION
Risk of damage to control panel!
Do not lean on the control
panel.
Do not place any objects on the
control panel.
Do not pour liquids over the
control panel.
Height adjustment –Up/Down control panel
Press the appropriate “Up or Down” button
to reach the desired desktop height.
=The desktop moves up or down.
Release the “Up or Down” button.
=The desktop stops at the desired point.
Manual reset of desktop
Wait for 5 seconds if the desk has just been
connected to the mains.
Press and hold the “Down” button until the
lower end position is reached.
Continue to hold the “Down” button for at
least 3 seconds.
=The resetting and initialisation process is
starting.
After conclusion of the resetting and
initialisation process, press the “Up” button.
=The desired height is reached.

Releasing the control panel before the
process is completed will interrupt the
manual resetting process and it must be
started anew.
Limiting height adjustability
These settings could limit the desktop
movement range (should there be a rolling
file cabinet under the desk or a set of
shelves above it).
The stopping positions for the rolling file
cabinet become the new bottommost end
position, and the shelf stopping positions
become the new topmost end position.
Use the “Up” or “Down” button to move
the desktop to the lower halve or the upper
halve of the movement range.
Simultaneously press and hold the “Up” and
“Down” buttons for 10 seconds.
=The position is being saved.
Resetting to factory settings
This function can be used to reset the DM
system to its factory settings.
Briefly press the buttons shown below
simultaneously (then release them):
After one second: Simultaneously press and
hold the buttons shown below (the red
signal lamp will be continuously illuminated):
Red light on the signal lamp starts
flashing.
When the red light of the signal lamp is
flashing: Release the buttons shown below:
Green light on the signal lamp starts
flashing slowly.
Wait 5 seconds: The signal lamp is then
green and flashing faster. Press and hold
the buttons shown below until the desktop
has reached the lowermost position:
The desktop moves slowly downward in
Safety mode, and the signal lamp is
flashing green until the desktop has
reached the lower end position.
=A sound is emitted, and the green light goes
out.
Briefly press the button shown below:
Desktop moves upward a short distance.
=The DM system has been reset to its factory
settings.

5.2.4 Memory control panel
Four different memory positions can be entered via
the Memory control panel.

ATTENTION

Do not lean on the control
panel.

control panel.

Press the appropriate “Up or Down” button
to reach the desired desktop height.
=The desktop moves up or down.
Release the “Up or Down” button.
=The desktop stops at the desired point. The
display indicates the desktop height.
Manual reset of desktop
Wait for 5 seconds if the desk has just been
connected to the mains.
Press and hold the “Down” button until the
lower end position is reached.
Continue to hold the “Down” button for at
least 3 seconds.
=The resetting and initialisation process is
starting.
After conclusion of the resetting and
initialisation process, press the “Up” button.
=The desired height is reached.
Releasing the control panel before the
process is completed will interrupt the
manual resetting process and it must be
started anew.
Configuring memory positions
Press the “Up” or “Down” button until the
desired height is reached.
=The display indicates the desktop height
(e.g. 73 cm).
Press the “SAFE” button.
Press the desired “Memory position”
button (e. g. button “2”)
=The display indicates S 2.
The display indicates the desktop height
after roughly 2 seconds.
Calling up memory positions
Press and hold the corresponding memory
position button (e.g. button “1” or button
“2”, etc.)
=The desktop is moved until the stored
desktop height is reached. The desktop
movement is stopped whenever you release
the button before the memory position has
been reached.

Limiting height adjustability
These settings could limit the desktop
movement range (should there be a rolling
file cabinet under the desk or a set of
shelves above it).
The stopping positions for the rolling file
cabinet become the new bottommost end
position, and the shelf stopping positions
become the new topmost end position.
Move the desktop to the lower halve or the
upper halve of the movement range.
Press and hold the “SAFE” button for 10
seconds
=The position is being saved.
Changing the displayed unit –C M/INCH
Simultaneously press and hold the buttons
“1”, “2” and “Up” for three seconds; then
release the buttons.
=The letter S and a number (e.g. S 7) are
indicated on the display.
Press and hold the “Up” button until S 5 is
indicated on the display.
=S 5 is displayed.
Press the “SAFE” button.
=If the display was previously set to
centimetres (cm), it will now be switched
over to inches (inch) and vice versa.
Resetting to factory settings
This function can be used to reset the DM
system to its factory settings.
Press the following buttons for 3 seconds
(then release them):
When S O is indicated on the display:
Press the (SAVE) button very briefly:
Lines move back and forth on the
display.
Wait 3 seconds, 0should be indicated on
the display: Then press the button shown
below:
The desktop moves downward until it
has reached the lower end position.
When the table has reached the lower end
position, and 64.9 is indicated in the
display: Press the button shown below:
The desktop moves upward.
=The reset to factory settings is concluded.

malfunctions
6.1 Safety-relevant information
The following information always applies to resolving
problems:
Danger due to voltage!
Contact with voltage can cause
severe injury or death due to electric
shock.
Attach or detach connectors only
when the equipment is de-
energised.
Do not open the housings of the
following components:
- Controller
- Columns
- Control panel
ATTENTION
Risk of damage to electrical equipment!
Do not use the mains cable to pull
the plug out of the socket.
Error messages on the display of the Up/Down
or Memory control panel.
If faults occur during operation of the desk, please
check whether it is being operated in accordance
with the user guide. In most cases, this will help you
find and eliminate the problem.
Some faults that could occur are indicated for the
Up/Down control panel on the LED signal lamp, and
for the Memory control panel on the display.
The tables below should help you to determine the
cause and correct the error or fault.

Release all buttons and wait 5 seconds. Then try to repeat
the action.
Disconnect the DM system from the power supply.
(If a power lift is used) disconnect the power lift from the
mains.
Check the power supply system for overheating. Let it cool if
required.
Check all cable connections and re-connect the system.
Should the problem persist:
■Perform a “manual reset”.
■Contact LOGICDATA.
Flashing green
System is booting
To carry out any subsequent steps wait, until the LED is no
longer flashing.
Do not press any buttons!
The system is being reset
Duty cycle exceeded
Collision detected (ISP)
Remove the obstacle from the desk system.
Remove any unnecessary loads from the desktop.
The DM system can be used as usual.

7Maintenance
7.1 Safety-relevant information
Only appropriately qualified and
authorised personnel may carry out
maintenance and repair work.
Only use suitable tools for all these
operations.
A damaged mains cable must be replaced
by the manufacturer, the manufacturer's
customer service staff or similarly
qualified personnel to prevent hazards.
7.2 Functional check
The components of the Migration SE Desk &
Bench product should be checked for correct
functionality at regular intervals. Pay particular
attention to the electrical connections:
The electrical equipment of the desk must
be checked regularly. Rectify defects such
as loose connections or damaged cables
immediately.
Attach or detach connectors only when
the equipment is de-energised.
The plug of the desk must be easily
accessible at all times.

7.4 Maintenance work
Only authorised and qualified personnel may carry
out maintenance work. For more information, please
contact our Customer Service Department. (see 9
Service ).
Before adjusting the height of the desk, make sure
that the desktop is level. If the floor is uneven, align
the desktop with the adjusting screws on the feet.
Ensure that there are no objects in the movement
range of the lift column!
Danger due to voltage!
Contact with voltage can cause
severe injury or death due to electric
shock.
Attach or detach connectors only when
the equipment is de-energised.
Do not open the housings of the
following components:
- Controller
- Columns
- Control panel
Risk of injury!
Unintentional lifting or lowering of the
desktop may cause injury.
For maintenance work on all non-
electrical components of the desk,
detach the electrical connection of the
height adjustment unit from the mains.
Risk of injury or damage!
The fastening screws could tear if the
desk is lifted by the desktop or the
attached components.
Always take hold of the desk at the
underframe to transport or move it.
ATTENTION
Risk of damage to lift mechanism!
The values stored in the controller do
not agree with the settings of a
different desk.
After dismantling the desk, e.g. for transport
reasons:
Reassemble the two side frames
only with the appropriate
desktop cross-member of the
same desk.
Follow the separate assembly
instructions in this regard.
ATTENTION
Using unapproved spare parts may
cause damage to the desk.
Only components provided by Steelcase
may be used as spare parts. Coordinate
the installation of differing parts with
Steelcase.
Comply with the specified
maintenance and inspection
intervals.
7.4.1 Exclusion of liability
Steelcase assumes no liability or warranty in the
following cases (see Liability, Page 2 ):
■Inadequate monitoring of the product
components (functional checks).
■Improper maintenance.
■Maintenance by a third party.
■Maintenance by unqualified and unauthorised
personnel.
■Use of components and adaptations that do not
originate from Steelcase.
■Unapproved modifications to the product with
regard to its design and configuration.
■Deliberate incorrect operation.
■Improper use (see 1.1 Intended Use ).
