GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The KM 2800, 3200 and 4000 mowers are trailed machines which are driven by the pto shaft of the tractor at 540
rpm. The machine can be lifted and lowered by means of the hydraulic system of the tractor. The cutting height can
be easily set by turning the top-link or using the skids (accessory).
The ground pressure is quick and easy to set. As a result of its low weight and low point of gravity the mower will
follow the ground well, even under less favourable conditions. In the working position the machine is held in position
by a mechanical suspension system. The ground pressure adjustment is simple and also remains intact after putting
the machine into the transport position. The easy drawbar adjustment, which is included with a mechanical locking
device and can be operated very simply from the tractor, makes sure that the machine will follow the tractor
correctly with the correct ground pressure, even at variable slope angles.
The cutter bars have mowing discs equipped with wear-resistant, reversible blades, resulting in a regular cutting
pattern and faster growth of the stubble. In general: In this manual references to 'left' and 'right' mean as seen in the
direction of travel of the tractor and the machine.
PREFACE
In this instruction manual we will explain how to use and maintain the trailed mower. It contains information about
the adjustment and maintenance and gives directions for trouble shooting.
Read the instructions and safety regulations before you begin to work on your machine! Make sure that this manual
is made available for those working with the mower.
In case of any questions or wishes concerning the mower you can rely on your dealer's expert knowledge and
information, supplied by the manufacturer. He stocks the original parts, has the correct tools and will gladly help you
as rapidly as possible.
The serial number plate has been mounted on the right side of the main frame.
Please, fill in this number on the CERTIFICATE OF GUARANTEE. Send in the completed certificate as soon as
possible, and store the copy with the rest of your machine documents.
These data may be important in case of any correspondence and when ordering parts at a later date.

SAFETY SUGGESTIONS
DANGER: If you should come across this symbol and heading, there is a direct
hazard to life and health of man and animal.
ATTENTION: This heading refers to possible risks of damage to machine(s), crops, buildings, etc., but also
to possible financial and/or legal problems (warranty, liability, and the like).
NOTE: This indicates a tip to make the work easier, better and safer.
Read the operating instructions before using the machine and follow the instructions!
General NOTE: Pass on all safety advice, etc. to other (fellow) users!
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
1. Tractors with mounted machines may only be driven by persons aged 18 or older. Young people of 16 and 17
must be in possession of a tractor driving licence.
2. Starting and test runs may never take place in an enclosed space because of the risks of inhaling exhaust
fumes.
3. Inspect the machine and the tractor on traffic and operational safety prior to any use!
4. In addition to the specific directions of this instruction manual pay attention to the general regulations with
regard to safety and the prevention of accidents! Keep the machine clean, which includes free from any mowed
crop and in this way prevent the risks of fire!
5. The stickers attached on or to the machine contain important directions for safe use; following the instructions
serves your own safety!
6. Adhere to the regulations of the Highway Code when using a public road!
7. Make sure to be familiar with all systems and control devices and their functions prior to working with them! It
will be too late for that when you are working!
8. When using the machine always wear close-fitting clothes! Avoid any loose (articles of) clothing!
9. After switching off the drive the machine will need time to slow down! Do not approach the cutter bar before the
machine has come to a full standstill (see also item 47)!
10. Look around the machine (and the tractor) before driving off and before switching on the machine! Look out for
children! Make sure you have sufficient visibility.
11. It is prohibited to be on the machine during work and transport!
12. Connect accessories as prescribed and exclusively mount appliances to the appropriate provisions and make
sure of a correct locking.
13. Be especially careful when connecting and disconnecting the machine and the tractor respectively! Make sure
the parking support is in the correct position when the mower is hitched and unhitched.
14. Adhere to the maximum permissible transport dimensions!
15. Inspect and mount any transport accessories, e.g. lighting, warning devices and the like and any protective
parts!
16. Prior to transporting the machine on a public road, put it in the prescribed position and lock this according to
regulations.
17. When driving the driver's seat must be occupied at all times!
18. Always adjust the driving speed to the conditions of the environment and the terrain! When driving up and down
hills and when driving across a slope do not make any sudden turns!
19. Mounted machines influence the handling, manoeuvrability and braking performance! So make sure of
sufficient steering and braking, if necessary by using front weights!
20. When taking turns pay attention to the extended width/length (turning circle) and/or large mass (sluggishness)
of the machine!
21. Only work with machines when their protection is complete and intact and is placed in its functional position!
The protection of the mower prevents access to danger zones. Therefore keep it in a proper condition. It is
meant for your safety and that of others!
22. No one may be within the working and danger zone of the mower! Keep sufficient distance to the -invisible-
blades of a running machine!
23. Do not enter the turning circle of the mower!
24. Fully lower the machine prior to leaving the tractor! Switch off the engine and remove the ignition key!
25. No one may be between the mower and the tractor unless the vehicle has been protected against rolling away

by means of the parking brake or chocks.
26. When mounting a machine in the three-point linkage, put the controls of the power lift in a position in which
inadvertently lifting or lowering is not possible.
27. The linkage category of the mower must always correspond with that of the tractor; adapt the mower if
necessary!
28. There is a danger of accidents by crushing or jackknifing inherent to using the three-point linkage.
29. The controls for the three-point linkage outside the tractor cab must be operated without standing between the
tractor and the mower.
30. Always make sure of sufficient lateral fixation of a machine in transport position.
31. When driving on public roads with a lifted machine, the operating handle of the three-point linkage must be
protected against lowering.
32. Check the condition of blades and knife bolts prior to mowing.
33. DANGER: Intensive use without hearing protection may cause hearing loss!
34. Switch off the PTO shaft, switch off the engine and remove the ignition key prior to working on the machine.
DANGER: The machine needs time to slow down! Wait until it has stopped completely (see also item
47).
35. Immediately repair any damage, prior to working with the machine again!
Drive through pto and coupling shaft
36. Prior to use, inspect the coupling shaft for any defects or wear.
37. Only use the power take-off shaft prescribed by the manufacturer!
38. Protection sleeves and covers of the pto guard must be mounted and in good condition!
39. Ensure the prescribed overlap of the coupling shaft halves and protection sleeves, both in transport and in
operating position.
40. Only mount and dismount the coupling shaft when the tractor engine is stopped and the ignition key is
removed.
41. Always ensure that the coupling shaft is mounted and protected correctly.
42. Lock the coupling shaft protection to prevent it from rotating by mounting the chain(s) to a fixed point.
43. Ensure that the rotating direction of the pto matches the machine to be driven before engaging the pto! The pto
speed must never exceed 540 or 1000 rpm.
44. Never engage the pto when the engine is stopped!
45. When the pto is running, there must be no one within the reach of the rotating pto or coupling shaft!
46. Always disengage the pto when there is a risk that the angle of the universal joint becomes to great, but also
when it is not needed!
47. DANGER: After disengaging the pto there is a danger resulting from the slowing down of the
machine because of mass inertia! The mowing discs rotate at a high speed and are all but
invisible: so stay clear of the mower! Only start working on it when all parts have
stopped!
48. Machines that are driven by means of a coupling shaft, as well as the coupling shaft itself, must only be
cleaned, lubricated or adjusted after switching off the pto and the engine and removing the ignition key!
49. Put a removed coupling shaft in the available holder on or in the machine!
50. Slide the protection sleeve over the pto as soon as the coupling shaft has been removed!
Tyres/wheels
51. When working on the wheels, the machine must rest on the cutterbar.
52. When (dis)mounting wheels and tyres always use the correct tools; have tyres changed/repaired by experts
only!
53. Always make sure of the correct tyre pressure; check this regularly.

DANGER STICKER EXPLANATION TEXTS
1. Stop the engine and do not start it up again when
working on the machine.
In this way you will prevent any perilous situations arising if a
machine suddenly starts running. Also beware of accidentally
engaging if the engine should remain running!
2. Stay clear of the knives when the motor is running
and the coupling shaft is coupled.
Due to the protective cover the rapidly spinning blades are not
visible: maintain a safe distance until all has come to a
complete standstill.
3. Do not approach the machine until it has come to a
complete standstill!
A rotating machine will never come to a direct standstill: it will
continue running for a while. As long as a machine is running
rotating parts are hard to see or invisible. Caution, not only
knives are a threat to life. Keep your distance until all has
come to a full standstill!
4. Keep clear: objects may be flung away!
Also when the machine is used correctly, stones and the like
may be flung away. Therefore always remain clear of the
danger zone.
Be particularly careful when working in the vicinity of roads
and buildings! Therefore replace the canvas when it is
worn.This canvas is specially designed to protect you from
flying objects.
5. Stay clear of the turning area of the machine!
When the machine makes a lateral turn there is a danger that
you can get caught between the machine and the tractor or
between the rods of the three-point linkage, which is highly
perilous!
6. Stay clear of folding parts of a machine!
Such a part can suddenly come down with great force
(because of its
weight, but also because of hydraulic power!). A switched-off
engine in itself does not prevent all accidents: the hydraulic
system may still be under pressure and you cannot switch off
gravity!
7. Keep clear of a coupling shaft!
Clothing, hands, hair etc. can be caught in the moving parts
and dragged around them with all its consequences! Make
sure the coupling shaft(s) are protected correctly. Pay special
attention to coupling shafts behind plating, without a
protection of their own!
8. Stop the engine and wait until the machine has
completely stopped before folding up the side guard
for transport.
The cutting blades are rotating under the guard; these are
unprotected when you fold up the side guard. Stop the engine
before approaching the machine.
9. Always place chocks, when the machine is parked on
a sloping surface.
This means that a heavy machine on wheels must always be
protected against accidentally rolling away when working on
it. Of course the same is true for trailed mowers and the like!
10. Secure the transport lock prior to starting transport!
In transport position the catch bolt must catch behind the lock
cam, otherwise the transport lock is not secured
11. Stay clear of area between tractor and machine!
First stop the engine and put machine in lowered and blocked
position. Assure that no others can operate tractor or mower
before entering.
12. Keep clear from (possible) moving parts.
Hands or feet can be caught between moving parts!

ASSEMBLING THE MOWER
STake the cover from the crate (1)
SRemove all parts and put them on a row on a clean floor
SSaw through the crate on the underside and remove crate
so that the mower can rest on the ground. Remove the
sides of the crate (2)
SPut the hydraulic hoses through the drawbar.
SAssemble the long drawbar to the pivot point, with M16
bolts (3)
SAssemble the drawbar cylinder, with mechanical lock (4)

General

ASSEMBLING THE MOWER
STake the cover from the crate (1)
SRemove all parts from crate and put them on a row on a
clean floor
SSaw through the crate on the underside and remove crate
so that the mower can rest on the ground. Remove the
sides of the crate (2)
SAssemble the drawbar hinge on the main frame, using the
two teflon spacers on bottom and top.
SPut the hydraulic hoses through the drawbar.
SAssemble the long drawbar to the pivot point, with M16
bolts (3)
SAssemble the drawbar cylinder, with mechanical lock (4)

SLift up the front of the drawbar and place the parking jack
in position (5)
SFit the wheel axle and wheel to the frame legs. Caution:
the 3200 and 4000 machines require the right wheel on the
outside (6) and the 2800 machine requires the right wheel
on the inside (7)
SLift the left hand side of the mower with a rope and pulley
and assemble the leg to the frame (With the hollow pins
and a bush) (8).
SLift the right hand side of the mower and assemble the leg
to the frame.
SAssemble the left spring with the plates and the pin. See
page 20 for spring measurements (9)
SFirst bolt the plates by hand and mount the pin with the
two hollow pins.
SThen put the pin horizontal and fasten the bolts.
SPut thread end through the hole and fasten the M16
nuts.
SFasten the spring to the thread-end (distance between
the spring plug and pin see table for all models.

SLift up the front of the drawbar and place the parking jack in
position (5)
SFit the wheel axle and wheel to both wheel arms (LH = 6,
RH = 7).
SLift the left hand side of the mower with a rope and pulley
and assemble the wheel arm to the frame (8).
SAssemble the control rod (8) and adjust its length to 720mm
(2' 41/4").
SAssemble the fender and fender support (8).
SAssemble the arm hinge on the right side of the main frame
with the two teflon spacers (9).
SLift the right hand side of the mower and assemble the
wheel arm to the arm hinge(9).
SPut the springs of the brake system under tension by
tightening the nut another 5 mm (or 3 revolutions) after
touching the spring.
SAssemble the fender and fender support (9).
SConnect the controlstrip to the main frame (A) and the
control rod to the arm hinge (B).
SAssemble the cylinder between the control rod and the
main frame (10). Nominal length is 830mm(10).
SAssemble the left spring with the plates and the pin. See
Page 20 for spring measurements (11).
S First bolt the plates by hand and mount the pin with the two
hollow pins.
SThen put the pin horizontal and fasten the bolts.
SPut thread end through the hole and fasten the M16 nuts.
SFasten the spring to the thread-end (distance Xbetween
the spring plug and pin see table for KM 4000S model).

SAssemble the right spring (12)
SFirst bolt the plates by hand and mount the pin with the
two hollow pins.
SThen position the pin horizontally and fasten the bolts.
SPut thread end through the hole and fasten the M16
nuts.
SDistance between springprop and pin must be according
the table on page 10/11.
SMount the angled iron bars for the front cover and tighten
by hand. Then attach the front cover as shown in the
picture (13). After closing the front cover tighten the
screws.
SAssemble the back cover (14):
SLoosen the bolts of the protection cover
SMount the back cover to the mower frame
STighten the aluminium profiles to the frame (15)
SPut the guiding strip in the cover and then bolt it to the
frame (16).

ALL MODELS
SMount the two side covers (17 and 18). Loosten the nuts
slightly, so that the covers can be placed correctly and re-
tighten the nuts afterward.
SLoosen the nut (17A) of the side cover holder to aline it
correctly.
SBolt the tongue to the drawbar. Also mount the extra plate
for the safety chain with the front bolt, after reading the
related instructions on page 16.
SMount the hose bracket to the drawbar (19)
SBolt the shaft covers to the bearings (20) (Place the one
with the extra opening facing away from the tractor.)
SAttach the long coupling shaft and fasten the shielding on
the gearbox side with a hose tightener (21). Place the
lubrication hole on the outside to facilitate ease of
lubrication.
SAttach the short coupling shaft and if necessary shorten it,
after reading the related instructions on page 17.

Attach the fenders to the wheel arms (22).

ADJUSTING TRANSPORT WIDTH KM4000S
To adjust the transport width to 3 m. (10') :
SPut the mower in transport position behinde the tractor
and drive aprox. 10 metres.
The RH side of the tractor must be aligning with the RH
cover of the mower.
SMower is to much to the right: lengthen toplink “x”.
SMower is to much to the left: shorten toplink “x”.
SCheck alignment by driving another 10 metres.
SCheck after adjusting the toplink “X” the buffers of the
arm hinge touching in mowing (A)- and transport (B)
position (25).
The position can be changed by adapting the length of the
cylinder “Y”.

PREPARING THE TRACTOR
To ensure a stable connection between the tractor and the
mower use a swinging drawbar (1).
It is important to be able to lock the bar in position and adjust
the length (2).
As a safety precaution the p.t.o. should be protected both on
top and at the sides (3).
Raise the tractor hydraulics to their maximum height (5).
RPM
The KM 2800, 3200, 4000 and 4000S are all set for 540
r.p.m.
HYDRAULIC CONNECTION
The KM mower has an hydraulic lift cylinder. Connect it to the
tractor valve (4) (at least a single acting valve with an open
position is required in the hydraulic system.) A double acting
cylinder is used to bring the mower into the transport position,
therefore a double acting valve is required (6).
A 2 mm throttle plate has been fitted inside the hose
connection to slow down the oil supply. This provision
ensures that the mower cannot suddenly drop to the ground
because of a defect in the hydraulic system. NEVER
REMOVE THIS PLATE!
ATTENTION:Before you start mowing check the hydraulic
connections and hoses for damage and
leakage.
DANGER:Never stand between the mower and the
tractor.

ATTACHING TO THE TRACTOR
The mower should be attached to the swinging drawbar on
the tractor.
Place the mower on the parking jack fitted to the drawbar (1).
Using the crank, raise the drive shaft 60-70 cm above the
ground (2), perferably in such a way that the p.t.o. and
driveshaft are at the same height.
Measure the distance from the tractors drawbar to the ground.
The clevis on the mower should be in line (3).
Its is also possible to rotate the clevis of the mower (10).
If the swinging drawbar is ‘single’, use the ‘double’ clevis (4)
on the mower.
ATTENTION:Always use fixation clip on the pin to avoid
the machine brakes loose from the tractor.
When the swinging drawbar is ‘double’, the mower clevis
should only be used as a ‘single’ (9).
The swinging drawbar of the tractor (6) should be used at a
length of 405 mm (16"). This is the most advisable position.
Position the centre of the tongue attachment point at a
distance of 405 mm (16") from the end of the splines (7).
If this length cannot be attained, then set the swinging
drawbar at 240 mm (9,5") (8) and mount an extension (11),
thereby extending the distance to 405 mm. This extension is
generally available. If the extension has a different length be
sure that the length between the p.t.o and clevis is 405 mm.

MOUNTING THE COUPLING SHAFT
The mower comes with two different coupling shafts:
SThe short coupling shaft (1), which is mounted between the
tractor and the mower.
SCoupling shaft with a slipping clutch (5) and a free-wheel
(6). The slipping clutch must be mounted on the drawbar
side, the free-wheel must face the mower.
ATTENTION: The angle of the coupling shaft must
never exceed 35 degrees (4).
ATTENTION: After 10 hours working re-tighten the
bolts of the long coupling shaft.
DANGER:Never work without the use of shaft
covers. They avoid wrapping of
clothing or crop.
ATTENTION:Always use the safety chains of the shaft
covers to avoid wrapping of clothing or
crop.
SHORTENING PROCEDURE COUPLING SHAFT
If shortening the coupling shaft should be required, please
consult the manufacturer's instructions for the correct
procedure.
SRemove the protective cover and take apart the two
shafts.
STurn the tractor to the right (6) with the mower attached
until the tyre is touching the drawbar.
SMount the coupling shaft sections, and keep them side by
side (2).
SMark the required length for the shafts. The profile tubes
must have a free clearance of at least 25 mm at both ends
(3).
STo check the minimum overlap (1) before shortening the
shafts, the tractor must be positioned in front of the
mower, facing forwards. The sections must overlap as
much as possible by a minimum of 180 mm.
SNow shorten the shafts where previously indicated.
SDeburr the end of the drive tube with a file and clean the
filings from the tubes.
SShorten the shield tubes one at a time by cutting the same
length that was cut from the drive tubes. Note: the two
protective covers do not have the same length.
SGrease the internal drive tube and re-assemble the
shielding on the drive shaft.
SCheck the length of the drive shaft at the minimum and
maximum positions of the machine.

CUTTING HEIGHT
The cutting height is set by adjusting the top-link (1):
Sshorten the top-link for a lower cut
Slengthen it for a higher cut.
If you want to cut higher, there are skids available
(accessory) to raise the cutterbar. You can first set the
cutting height roughly with the skid (2). You can choose
between three different positions which you set with a
pin (3) and lock with a bolt (4).
DANGER: Keep clear, objects may be flung
away! Also when the machine is used
correctly, stones etc may be flung away.
Therefore always remain clear of the
danger zone.
ATTENTION:Be particularly careful regarding above
danger when working in the vicinity of
roads and buildings!
ATTENTION:Replace the canvas when it is worn. This
canvas is specially designed to protect you
from flying objects.
