1. GENERAL
This p actice p ovides installation and maintenance
p ocedu es fo the ADTRAN Total Access 1500 Dual
4-Wi e T ansmit Only (TO) Access Module. Figure 1
is an illust ation of the Total Access 1500 Dual 4-Wi e
TO.
Revision History
This is the initial elease of this document. Futu e
evisions to this document will be explained in this
subsection.
General Description
The Dual 4-Wi e TO Access Module is intended to be
deployed in the Total Access 1500 Chassis. The Dual
4-Wi e TO p ovides fo two individual 4-wi e analog
inte faces between a VF t ansmission facility and the
Total Access 1500 Pulse Coded Modulation (PCM)
backplane. Each TO inte face p ovides 4-wi e
voice-g ade (analog) data se vices with no signaling
associated with the ci cuit, o whe e signaling is
p ovided by in-band tones.
Features
The featu es of the Dual 4-Wi e TO (P/N 1180212L2)

• TLP t ansmit input ange of +5.0 to -16.0 dBm in
0.1 dB inc ements
• TLP eceive output ange of +8.5 to -9.5 dBm in
0.1 dB inc ements

2. INSTALLATION

Remove the Total Access 1500 Dual 4-Wi e TO f om
the ca ton and visually ensu e that damage has not
occu ed du ing shipping o handling. If damage has
occu ed, file a claim with the ca ie , then contact
ADTRAN. Refe to Warranty and Customer Service
section of this p actice.
The Dual 4-Wi e TO inse ts into any Access Module
slot (1 th ough 24) of the Total Access 1500 chassis.
To install the Dual 4-Wi e TO access module, pe fo m
the following steps:
1. Hold the unit by the f ont panel while suppo ting
the bottom side.
2. Align the ca d edges to the guide g ooved fo the
designated slot.
3. Inse t the ca d until the edge connecto seats
fi mly into the backplane.
4. Push the ejecto in place to ensu e the unit is fully
seated.
Compliance
Table 1 shows the Compliance Codes fo the Dual
4-Wi e TO. The Dual 4-Wi e TO complies with UL
1950, thi d edition. It is intended fo installation in
est icted access locations only and in equipment with a
Type “B” o “E” installation code.
This device complies with Pa t 15 of the FCC ules.
Ope ation is subject to the following two conditions:
1. This device may not cause ha mful inte fe ence.
2. This device must accept any inte fe ence eceived,
including inte fe ence that may cause undesi ed
ope ation.
Changes o modifications not exp essly app oved by
ADTRAN could void the use ’s autho ity to ope ate
this equipment.
Time Slot Assignments
Fo time slot assignments in the Dual T1 mode and in
the Quad T1 mode, efe to Table 2.
The Total Access 1500 platfo m can have multiple time
slots in the T1 data st eam assigned to each physical
slot in the channel bank. The Total Access 1500 allows
c aft selectable time slots using the elect onic
p ovisioning inte face. The system will automatically
map DS0s in the T1 as dete mined by the LIU
ope ational configu ation. Manual mapping is available
via the LIU menu.
Connections
Fou 50-pin male amphenol connecto s on the ea of
the Total Access 1500 chassis p ovide the inte connect
wi ing fo each of the access module physical slots.
The Dual 4-Wi e TO equi es P1 (T/R) and P2 (T1/
R1) fo the odd po ts of each access module, while P3
(T/R) and P4 (T1/R1) fo the even po ts. See Table 2
fo wi ing inte connect details.

3. PROVISIONING
The e a e no ha dwa e options in the Dual 4-Wi e TO
access module; its specific options can be p ovisioned
f om the Site Manage o f om a DB-9 VT100 c aft
po t on the Total Access 1500 SCU. The facto y
default settings fo the Dual 4-Wi e TO access module
a e noted in Bold Text in Table 3.
Password and User ID
Passwo d p otection is facto y disabled. If passwo d
p otection is enabled, then the SCU will display the log
on sc een, and a valid use ID and passwo d a e
equi ed to access menus. The facto y default use ID
is USER, and the default passwo d is PASSWORD
both a e in all capital lette s. Both the use ID and
passwo d a e equi ed.

Front Panel LEDs
The Total Access 1500 Dual 4-Wi e TO has two f ont
panel LEDs that p ovide status info mation fo each
inte face. See Table 4 fo LED indications.
4. TEST FEATURES
Initiated Tests
The Dual 4-Wi e TO suppo ts a Digital Netwo k
Loopback and 1004 Hz Tone Tests fo each po t to
suppo t ci cuit tu nup and maintenance effo ts. These
tests a e initiated f om the Total Access Site Manage
o the Total Access 1500 Local C aft Po t on the SCU,
and a e initiated on an individual po t basis.
Digital Network Loopback Test
The Digital Netwo k Loopback p ovides a loopback
path fo the DS0 data f om the netwo k. Received
data of the selected po t is latched in on the app op iate
eceive time slot on the eceive bus, and then placed on
the t ansmit bus in the app op iate po t’s t ansmit time
slot.
1004 Hz Tone Test
The 1004 Hz Tone Test gene ates a 1004 Hz @
0 dBm Digital Refe ence Signal (DRS) tone, which is
used to send DRS signal to the loop, to the netwo k, o
to both simultaneously.
5. MAINTENANCE
The Total Access 1500 Dual 4-Wi e TO equi es no
outine maintenance fo no mal ope ation.
ADTRAN does not ecommend that epai s be
pe fo med in the field. Repai se vices may be obtained
by etu ning the defective unit to ADTRAN. Refe to
Warranty and Customer Service section fo fu the
info mation.
