Designated use
The VTSA valve terminals described in this manual are in
tended for fitting into a machine or automated system. The
user must at all times observe the safety regulations speci
fied in this manual as well as the instructions concerning the
designated use of the relevant VTSA valve terminal. The VTSA
valve terminals may only be used as follows:
asdesignated in industrial applications
 without any modifications by the user.
Only the conversions or modifications described in the
documentation accompanying the product are permitted.
infaultless technical condition.
When used together with commercially available compo
nents, such as actuators, the specified limits for pressures,
temperatures, electrical data, torques etc. must be observed.
National and local safety regulations must also be observed.
Target group
This manual is directed exclusively at technicians trained in
control and automation technology.

This manual contains specific information on fitting, installing,
commissioning, servicing and converting the VTSA valve ter
minal. This manual describes only the pneumatic components
and refers to the valve terminal variants listed in the table
below.

Term/abbreviation Meaning
Angled sub−base Reversing unit (90°) with work connections 2 and 4. The angled
sub−base is fitted on the connection side of the manifold block.
Basic components Component (pneumatic interface, pneumatic manifold block or
pneumatic supply plate) on which further components (exhaust plate,
exhaust cover, vertical supply plate, pressure regulator plate, throttle
plate, valve or cover plate) are fitted.
Components Common term for pneumatic interface, pneumatic manifold block or
pneumatic supply plate, end plate, angled sub−base, exhaust plate,
exhaust cover, vertical supply plate, pressure regulator plate, throttle
plate, valve or cover plate for a valve location.

1.1 The VTSA valve terminal
Festo assists you in solving your automation tasks at machine
level with VTSA valve terminals. The modular structure of the
valve terminal enables you to match it optimally in your ma
chine or system.
The valve terminal pneumatics provide the following:
 the common channels for supply and exhaust air
 the electric signals from all valve solenoid coils.
Work connections 2 and 4 are provided for each valve loca
tion on the individual manifold sub−bases. The valves are
supplied with compressed air (operating pressure and pilot
pressure) via the common channels and connections in the
pneumatic supply plates. The exhaust air (from the valves
and the pilot exhaust) is also exhausted via these common
channels and connections.
The valve terminal can be fitted with further pneumatic
supply plates, e.g. in order to supply pressure zones.
The scope of functions at each valve location can be extended
by means of additional vertical stacking components, e.g.
exhaust restriction or pressure regulation.
Depending on the manifold sub−bases used, the VSTA valve
terminal is available with 2, 4, 6 ... 32 valve locations (see
also section 1.1.2 Description of components − Manifold sub−
bases). Maximum 32 valve coils can be controlled.

Sizes of the VTSA valve
terminal
The valve terminals are available with manifold sub−bases
and ISO valves of sizes 18 mm and 26 mm. An adapter plate
is not required if you wish to combine these two sizes on the
valve terminal.
