Personal Protective Equipment

FULL BODY HARNESS

Compliant with standard EN 361:2002

1 INTRODUCTION

11 IMPORTANT PLEASE NOTE:

You have just acquired Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and we thank you for

your conﬁdence. Please follow the instructions given here BEFORE EVERY USE

OF THE EQUIPMENT, in order to gain maximum beneﬁt. Failure to follow the

instructions given in this manual may result in serious injury or death.

We recommend that you re-read these instructions from time to time. In addition,

the manufacturer or its representative declines all responsibility in case of any

use, storage method or maintenance carried out in any other manner than that

described in this manual.

FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THESE INSTRUCTIONS MAY LEAD TO

MALFUNCTIONING OF THE PRODUCT AND BE DETRIMENTAL TO

THE ARREST OF A FALL, THUS RESULTING IN SERIOUS INJURIES

OR DEATH FOR THE USER

IF THE BUYER IS NOT THE END USER, IT IS IMPORTANT THAT

THESE INSTRUCTIONS ARE GIVEN TO THE END USER

In the interests of the user’s safety, if the product is resold outside of the original

destination country, the seller must provide the following information in the lan-

guage habitually used in the country of use:

• maintenance instructions

• instructions for periodical examination;

• instructions concerning repairs;

• additional information required that is speciﬁc to the equipment.

13 PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

COMPLIES WITH STANDARD EN 361

Full body harness (made of PES webbings, PA and PES threads, metallic compo-

nents and plastic parts, information about material available on equipment mark-

ing) with or without connectors (Compliant with EN 362).

14 COMPATIBILITIES

A full body harness is designed to be used together with other components form-

ing part of personal fall arrest systems (compliant with EN 363).

It is necessary to be completely sure before use that the recommendations spe-

ciﬁc to each element associated with this product are respected, as deﬁned in

their corresponding instructions, that they comply with the applicable European

standards or otherwise any other appropriate standard and that their safety func-

tions do not interfere with one another.

Check that the product you have just acquired is compatible with the recommen-

dations of the other system components.

15 HAZARDS

In conjunction with fall arrest systems, this harness is designed to protect against

fall from height that may cause serious injuries.

While in use, protect your PPE against all risks connected with the work environ-

ment: thermal, electrical or mechanical shocks, acid splashes, sharp edges, etc. …

16 PERFORMANCE

This equipment has undergone a standard EU examination (EN 361)with a

notiﬁed body (cf Appendix 4), which issued an EU certiﬁcate conﬁrming that all

equipment produced and the corresponding instructions comply with Regulation

(EU) 2016/425.

17 LIMITATIONS AND CAPABILITIES

Only a full body harness which is compliant with EN 361 is allowed to be used in

a fall arrest. This harness shall be used as a part of a fall arrest system (eg work

on roofs, terrace, scaffolding, ….), and shall not be used for work positioning or

suspension work.

Never use this harness for load carrying.

If the harness has suffered a fall, it must be withdrawn from the ﬁeld.

18 TRAINING

2  PRIOR USE INFORMATION

Whenever possible, it is strongly recommended that this equipment is personally

assigned to a single user.

2-1 TRANSPORTATION, STORAGE

Store away from sources of heat. Store the harness away from humidity and ultra-

violet light,

Avoid any atmosphere that is corrosive or excessively hot or refrigerated.

During transport, check that your PPE is stored well away from any source of heat,

damp, corrosive atmosphere, ultraviolet rays, etc. …

WARNING

Activities at height are dangerous and can cause serious accidents and injuries. We remind

you that you are personally liable in the case of an accident, injury or fatality to either your-

self or a third party during or following the use of one of our products. The use of our pro-

ducts is reserved to authorized persons who have gone through the proper training or who

are operating under the supervision and instruction of an authorized superior.

Ensure that you have been adequately trained in the use of this PPE and make sure that

you fully understand how it works. If there is any doubt, do not take any risks but rather seek

advice. Good physical condition is required in order to carry out work at height. Certain

medical contraindications can threaten the user’s safety (taking medications, cardiovascu-

lar problems, etc.) during normal use of the PPE and in emergencies. In any case of doubt,

consult your physician.

The product must not be used by persons weighing more than 140 kilograms. Clothing and

equipment included. We remind you that the harness must be associated with a fall arrester

equipment (e.g. energy absorber) suitable for this higher user weight.

22 HOW TO SELECT THE APPROPRIATE SIZE (CF. P 3)

23 CHECKING

Before each use, carry out a thorough visual examination to ensure that the PPE,

as well as any other equipment that may be attached to it (connector, lanyard,

etc.) is complete. Make all necessary arrangements for the implementation of any

rescue in total safety.

In the event of your product being damaged, consult the manufacturer or his

agent. If you have any doubts regarding the safe condition of the product, or if the

product has been used to arrest a fall, it is essential to your personal safety that

the PPE be withdrawn from service and sent back to the manufacturer or a quali-

ﬁed repair centre for checking, or destruction. Following examination, the centre

will either deliver or refuse written authorisation to re-use the PPE. It is strictly for-

bidden to modify or repair a PPE yourself. Only the manufacturer or a repair centre

is qualiﬁed to carry out these repairs.

Check the serviceable condition of the harness: (cf. VII):

• No incipient breaks in the webbing,

• No deformation of the D-rings,

• Correct operation of the buckle systems,

• Integrity of the seams,

• Good condition of the metal components.

• The non-tripping of the fall indicators

Your harness may have several fall indicators:

• On the back webbing : if this fall indicator is triggered, the red stitching on back

strap will break. A fall indicator will then be visible (warning label indicating that

the product should not be used anymore)

• On the front webbing loops (front attachment webbing points) : if this fall

indicator is triggered, the red stitching on each chest webbing loops will break.

A fall indicator will then be visible (warning label indicating that the product

should not be used anymore)

• On the chest strap (chest attachment point via one D-Ring) : if this fall indicator

is triggered, the red stitching on the chest strap will break.

24 PUTTING AND ADJUSTMENT ON THE FULL BODY HARNESS

Please proceed as follows in order to put your harness on without difﬁculty (cf. I):

• Take the harness by the Back D-ring,

• Put on the shoulder straps one after the other,

• Pass the thigh straps between your legs, in order to lock them into the buckles

on either side of your hips. Be careful not to cross the thigh straps.

• Adjust the thigh straps by pulling or releasing the strap end

• Close the chest strap,

• Adjust the front adjustment buckles one after the other by pulling on or releas-

ing the end of the strap.

• Adjust the side straps

For a full body harness to be totally efﬁcient, it must be properly adjusted (not too

tight or too loose, and thigh straps must be in a horizontal position on the legs).

Please note: harnesses made of elastic webbing require a tighter ﬁt.

Once your harness is adjusted, check that no webbing is twisted or crossed over,

that all the buckles are correctly attached and that the back D-ring is situated at

the level of the shoulder blades. For optimum safety, do not hesitate to seek help.

25 HOW TO TAKE OFF THE HARNESS

After work, once there is no risk of fall from height anymore, unlock the different

buckles to take off the harness.

3  USE

31 USE INFORMATION

To correctly attach the full body harness to an anchorage point (compliant with

EN 795) and make sure that the work will be performed in a way that it minimizes

as much as possible the risk of fall and reduces the work height, we recommend

that you proceed as follows:

• To connect an energy absorber (compliant with EN 355) to the back attaching

element of the full body harness ( cf. EN 355) or an automatic retractable fall

arrester (compliant with EN 360).

• For the chest attaching element of the fall arrester of the harness, connect a

mobile fall arrester which includes an anchorage support (rigid compliant with.

EN 353-1, ﬂexible compliant with EN 353-2).

ANCHORAGE POINT

If possible, to be used with anchorage devices (conformed to the EN 795 standard

- please refer to the corresponding user instruction) or structural anchor. that is to

say elements ﬁxed to last to a structure (wall, post…).

Check that the anchorage point:

• Offers minimum resistance of 12 kN, for metallic and 18 kN for non-metallic

elements,

• Is situated ideally above the operator, (cf. X).

• Is vertically in line with the working surface: (maximum angle ± 30°),

• Is totally suited to the equipment attaching device

• Has no sharp edges

ATTACHEMENT OF SELFRETRACTING LIFELINE

Webbing attaching extension enables fast and easy attachment of personal self-

retracting lifelines.

Back attachement point for SRL (webbing attaching extension) is for attaching

the Self-Retracting Device when not connected to an Anchorage Connection

Point for purposes of fall protection. Lanyard Parking Attachments shall never be

used as a Fall Protection Attachment Element.

CARABINER

Connector is compliant with EN 362 standard

• The carabiner must be connected directly to the harness with no intermediary

buckle.

• When the carabiner is used for attachment to an anchorage point, check for

compliance with the recommendations of the “ANCHORAGE POINT” para-

graph.

It is also possible to use a webbing anchor point (EN 795) or an anchoring clamp

(EN 362) to attach oneself to an anchorage point.

WHEN CONNECTING THE CARABINER, MAKE SURE THAT THE

LOCKING SYSTEM IS IN PLACE.
