A General
A1. Anyone working with or on the Söll GlideLoc climbing protection system according to EN 353-
1 must be informed about the content of this manual before using the system. Acting contrary
to these instructions endangers human life.
A2. The operator of the fall protection system must ensure that these instructions are kept safe,
dry and accessible to the user at all times.
A3. These instructions must be provided by the operator of the system on request to the manufac-
turer of the fall arrest system (Honeywell Fall Protection Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG or one
of its authorized dealers).
A4. For the use of this Söll GlideLoc climbing protection system, the instructions for use of the
corresponding Söll fall arrester must be observed.
A5. For installation and use of Söll GlideLoc accessory parts on these fall arrest systems, the cor-
responding separate instructions must be observed.
A6. When using further personal protective equipment, the corresponding separate instructions
must be observed.
A7. The accident prevention regulations VBG 1 and VBG 74 as well as the „Guidelines for safety
and rescue harnesses“ ZH 1/709 and ZH 1/710 must be observed.
For installation the UVV VBG 37 as well as the reference book ZH 1/61 must be observed.
A8. Söll GlideLoc climbing protection devices may only be assembled and operated using original
Söll components/elements. The combination with components/elements of other manufactur-
ers can impair the safety of the Söll GlideLoc climbing protection systems. Product liability in
such cases is rejected by Honeywell Fall Protection Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG, as well
as by its authorized dealers. In addition, there is no approval in such cases, as Söll climbing
protection devices are tested and approved as a system. The full liability is thus transferred to
the operator.
A9. Thecontrollist(sectionG)mustbelledoutcompletelyandcorrectlybythesitemanagerof
theinstallationrmwithanindeliblepen.
A10. Before and during each use of the assembled fall protection system, a visual inspection of the
functionality of the system must be carried out.

A11. Important: Climbing locks
For new assemblies, only the following types of climbing locks may be used in accordance
with the requirements of EN353-1: 2014 + A1: 2017:
These climbing locks must be used if the following refers to or depicts “upper climbing
lock” or “lower climbing lock”. A distinction in type between “upper” and “lower” is no longer
required.
When doing so, follow the assembly instructions for the respective climbing lock and in
particular the assembly position (arrow upwards).

B Installation
B1. The assembly kit consists of:
1 parallel switch (reversing ring with integrated carriage)
1 stop each on left and right
1 end stop each left and right
4 climbing locks
1 lock each on the right top and bottom
1 lock each on left top and bottom
B2. Functional items for easy installation:

secure against falling during installation.
B3. Personnel required for installation: At least two persons
B4. Handle components gently, do not throw.
B5. Before installation, clean parts of dirt, especially at the connecting surfaces. Parts should
not come into contact with cement, mortar or similar substances. Mortar residues are to be
removed immediately. Especially the running surface for the fall arrester on the inside and
outside of the guide rail must be clean.
B6. Do not use damaged parts and do not repair them. They have to be replaced by brand
new parts.
B7. Minimum dimensioning for the mounting of climbing protection ladders:
The minimum dimension of the screws is M12. The order of the mounting bracket must be
designed for the used screw dimensioning.
Reference is made to the exclusive use of dowels approved by the building authorities.

B8. Attention:
 Installationcanbeconducteddirectlyfromtheladderwithoutsca󰀨olding.Forthispurpose,
the installer shall use safety harness and fall arrester. In order to be protected against fal-
ling during a possible retraction of the fall arrester, the installer must always secure himself
with a safety rope according to EN 354/355 as shown in Fig. 1.
 Onlyplacethekarabinerhookofthesafetyropearoundtheguiderailwithapositivet
underneaththelastbracketrmlyconnectedtothestructureandtheladder.Neversecure
on the side rail of the ladder!

B9. Attention:
 Theclimbinglocksandthemountingbracketsmustrstbemounteddirectlyaboveand
below the parallel switch installation location before the recess for the parallel switch is
sawn into the existing ladder.
If this is not possible, the installer must additionally attach himself to the mast with a
holding rope according to Fig. 2 in order to prevent any bending back of the ladder after
sawing and thus secure against falling.

Attention:
The function of the fall arrester is only guaranteed within the guide rail area secured by
climbing locks and when used as intended.
The insertion or removal of the fall arrester from the guide rail as well as the guiding over
the climbing lock with the arrester must be carried out in a secured position (for examp-
le,xedoor,securedplatform,securedhookingladderorsafetyropeaccordingto
EN 354/355).

B10. Mountingbrackets(2.3)mustrstbeplaceddirectlyaboveandbelowtheinstallation
location of the parallel switch.
Attention:
If this is not possible, mount the mounting bracket (2.3) immediately after sawing out the
recess (see also point B 9. - Attention).
Furthermore, the „lower“ (2.1)* and „upper“ (2.2)* climbing locks must be mounted.
Important:
Above the parallel switch, the „lower“ (2.1)* climbing lock must be screwed from behind
through the square perforation of the central rail (2.0) so that the „upper“ (2.1)* climbing
lockislocatedimmediatelyabovetherstsparmountingbracketovertheparallelswitch
and the locking bolt is located on the right side of the central rail.
Belowtheparallelpoint,insertthe„upper“climbinglock(2.2)*intotherstsquareperfora-
tion below the last spar mounting bracket, so that the locking bolt is also on the right side
of the central rail.

B11. Saw out the central rails (2.0) of the Y-spars (in the case of twin ladders also the side rails)
between 2 rungs for the installation of the parallel switch. For this purpose, the cutting
lines 30mm and 217mm from the lower rung are marked and sawn out of the ladder
section applying straight cuts.
Note:
Ensure that the recesses in the Y-spar of the two climbing paths are at the same height to
ensure correct installation.
Attention:
The climbing locks „lower“ (2.1)* and „upper“ (2.2)* may only be guided over after the
parallel switch has been mounted and the carriage has been locked in the correspond-
ing end position, or if a fall arrest system is in place (e.g. with safety rope according to
EN 354/355).

B14. Mount the parallel switch (1.0) to the mast with the xing clamps. The spar mount-
ing bracket (1.3) in the guide rail prole (1.2) of the carriage (1.1) must be below the
center line and the safety lock (1.4) on the left side..
Attention:
 Betweenthecentralrails(2.0)andtheguiderailprole(1.2)ofthecarriage(1.1),aclear-
ance of 2.5mm must be kept.

B15. Itisimportanttoensurethattheguiderailprole(1.2)ofthecarriage(1.1)arealignedwith
the central rails (2.0) of the ladder.
 Iftheguiderailprole(1.2)ofthecarriage(1.1)liesinfrontoforbehindtheproleofthe
guide rail (2.0/3.0), then the adjusting screws (1.5) must be turned inwards or outwards as
necessary until alignment is reached.
Maximum adjustment based on the diameter 5mm.
 Startwiththescrew(1.5)closesttotheladderandadjustituntiltheprole(1.2)ofthecar-
riage (1.1) aligns with the ladder. Thereafter, the other screws (1.5) of the parallel switch
bracket are readjusted so that the carriage (1.1) can move easily.
After adjustment, the screws (1.5) must be secured by means of the locknuts (1.6).
Attention:
During the adjustment, the carriage must be pushed over the entire travel distance again
and again, so that it can be ensured that the carriage (1.1) always runs smoothly.
Note:
If the adjustment range of the adjusting screws (1.5) (=> 5mm in relation to the diameter)
isnotsu󰀩cient,anotherattemptmustbemadetoachievealignmentoftheguiderailswith
each other (for example by changing the holder spacing of the ladder).

C Review and acceptance
When accepting, attention must be paid to the perpendicular positioning of the ladder/par-
allel switch. All screw connections, brackets to the structure, brackets to ladder spar are to
be checked. They must be tight and secured against releasing (see section D). Immediate-
ly above and below the parallel switch, an additional mounting bracket must be mounted
and the „upper“ and „lower“ climbing locks must be present (see Fig. 3). The carriage of
the parallel switch must be able to move smoothly and engage in the end positions.
D Screw connections, screw locks
For steel screws, the hot-dip galvanized screw lock is guaranteed by the delivered toothed
pulley.
For stainless steel screws, a self-locking special nut is used as the securing element.

E1.a Using the fall arrester, move up to the „upper“ climbing lock (2.2)*.

Important!
Check that the lower stop bolt (1.7) is in its normal position and blocks the fall arrester from

The stop catch of the fall arrester must rest on the spar mounting bracket (1.3) in the guide
railprole(1.2).

E2.a. Using the fall arrester, move up to the „upper“ climbing lock (2.2)*.
E2.b Secure with safety rope to EN 354/355.
E2.c Guide over the „upper“ climbing lock (2.2)* with the fall arrester. Take the fall arrester from
thecentralrailprole(2.0)andhangitonthebelt.

E2.d Secure with the safety rope around the spar until the carriage (1.1) of the parallel switch is
accessible.
E2.e Guide the carriage (1.1) far enough so that the fall arrester can be inserted into the guide
railprole(1.2)ofthecarriage(1.1).
E2.f E1.7.dPullthelowerstopbolt(1.2)intheguiderailprole(1.1)ofthecarriage(1.1)back-
wards.
E2.g Guide past the fall arrester fully, and release the stop bolt (1.7) again , which must auto-
matically return to its normal position.
Attention:
The stop catch of the fall arrester must rest on the spar mounting bracket (1.3) in the guide
railprole(1.2).
E2.h Loosen the safety rope and guide the carriage (1.1) to the desired end position or to the
desired climbing path.
E2.i Now you can climb up normally, as described from point E 1.g onwards.
Important:
 Thefallarrestermustalwayssitintheguiderailprole(1.2)ofthecarriage(1.1)withthe
stopcatchonthecrossprole.Alwayskeepthelockingbolts(1.7/1.8)openbyhanduntil
the fall arrester has passed completely.
E3. Attention:
The „upper“ (2.2)* or „lower“ (2.1)* may only be overrun if the carriage (1.1) is correctly
lockedinthenalpositionorifasafetysystemisinplace(e.g.safetyrope).
