GETTING STARTED
Thank you for purchasing Hunter Douglas Duette®Honeycomb Shades. With proper
installation, operation, and care, your new shades will provide years of beauty and
performance.
Please thoroughly review this instruction booklet and the enclosed packing list before
beginning the installation.
Tools and Fasteners Needed
■1" metal putty knife
■Flat blade and Phillips screwdrivers
■Level (laser level is recommended)
■Mallet
■Measuring tape and pencil
■Power drill,

⁄ 32 " drill bit,

⁄ 32 " drill bit, and
1
⁄ 4 " hex driver
■Scissors
In addition, you will need fasteners designed to work with your specific mounting surface(s).
■#6 Hex Head Screws (Provided). 1

⁄ 2 " screw is provided per installation bracket. Also,

⁄ 2 " screws are provided for the mounting channels — the number of the screws provided
depends on the length of the channels.
Mounting Type and Window Terminology
If the mounting channels and installation brackets are mounted correctly, the rest of the
installation process follows easily. To prepare for these important steps, review the basic
window terminology illustrated below. Note that LightLock™system is only available for
inside mount.

Install the Channels
■Using the outline on the template, determine where to mount the side channel.
➤If your shade is PowerView®(battery pack/DC power supply), the minimum mounting
depth for flush mount is 2
1
⁄ 2 ". Trim the template at the dotted line prior to use.
➤If your shade is PowerView (battery wand — high and low mount), the minimum
mounting depth for flush mount is 3".
■Place the template at the bottom of the left side jamb
and mark the rear edge of the template on the jamb.
➤This mark represents the rear edge of the mounting
channel.
■Repeat this step for the top of the left jamb.
■Repeat above steps for the right jamb.
■Using the template, mark the location for the installation brackets on the head jamb.
➤Place the template in the top left corner of the window opening.
➤Line up the back edge of the template with the mark
previously made on the side jamb.
➤Mark the center hole, if depth permits.
➤Repeat for the right side.
➤If more than two installation brackets came with your
order, space additional bracket(s) evenly between the
two end brackets and mark their location.

■Measure and mark the middle groove on each mounting
channel starting at 2" from each end and make additional
marks located approximately 18" apart.
■Drill the screw holes in the mounting channels using a
5
⁄ 32 " drill bit.
■Test fit the left mounting channel into the window
opening.
➤If the gap is greater than
1
⁄ 16 ", select the proper
combination of top and bottom end caps to minimize
the gap.
NOTE: D-seal on the top of the top end caps can be effective in reducing light gaps.
➤Attach the end caps as shown and test fit to ensure a snug fit.
■Repeat for the right side.

■Place the mounting channel in the window opening, lining up the rear of the mounting
channel to the marks previously made on the side jambs.
■Attach the mounting channel using the screws provided.
Pre-drill holes with a
3
⁄ 32 " bit.
NOTE: D-seal on the back of the mounting channels
can be effective in reducing light gaps.
■Repeat for opposite side.
■Remove the protective liner from the front and the rear channels.
■Snap the rear channel onto the mounting channel, starting at the bottom and working up
to the top. Use a mallet if necessary.

■Reach behind the rear channel and make sure there is
no gap between the rear channel and the mounting
channel.
■Repeat for opposite side.
Install the Brackets
■Your order will include the correct number of installation brackets for your shade width, as
shown in the table.
■Install the installation brackets.
➤Drill the screw holes already marked on the head jamb using a

⁄ 32 " drill bit.
■Use a level to check that the mounting surface is level. Shim the brackets if necessary.
■Attach the installation brackets using the screws
provided.
IMPORTANT: The back edges of the installation
brackets should line up with the back of the rear
channel. If the brackets are closer to the window,
move them forward.
IMPORTANT: The front edges of the installation
brackets must be level and aligned. If mounting to a
heavily textured surface, shim the brackets, if needed.
Install the Shade
■Refer to the appropriate page based on your order.
➤For PowerView®shades: see the Duette Honeycomb Shades PowerView Motorization
instructions, page 10.

Test the Shade
■Test the operation. The shade should be evenly spaced from both rear channels and
operate smoothly.
➤For PowerView®shades: use the programming button to test the operation and
program the PowerView remote. Refer to the Duette Honeycomb Shades PowerView
Motorization instructions
NOTE: If the channels interferes with the shade's operation, make sure the side channel is
installed completely to the mounting channel.
Finish the installation
■Snap the front channel onto the rear channel, starting at the bottom and working up to the
top. Use a mallet if necessary.
■Repeat for opposite side.
■Operate the shade once more to ensure the shade operates to your satisfaction.

Apply D-seal (If Necessary)
■We have provided adhesive-backed D-seal to reduce any light gaps created by uneven
surfaces. Install this as needed to eliminate light gaps. Some recommended areas to
apply D-seal include:
Entire width of the bottom rail
Between mounting channels and
mounting surfaces
Entire width of the headrail

Removing the Shade (If Necessary)
■Start at the bottom of the front channel, pull the channel to separate from the mounting
channel.
■Repeat for opposite side.
■Lower the shade approximately4".
■While holding the headrail, push
back on the bottom tab of the
installation bracket with a
flat blade screwdriver to release
the bottom edge of the headrail.
■After releasing the bottom edge,
roll the back of the headrail
down and out from thebracket.
Removing the Rear Channels (If Necessary)
■After removing the front channels and the shade, grasp the corner of the rear channel and
peel in wards. If necessary, use a wide flat blade screw driver or 1" putty knife between
the mounting channel and the rear channel.
■Repeat for opposite side.

• Operational cords for a full 7 years from the date
of purchase.
• Repairs and/or replacements will be made with
like or similar parts or products.
• Hunter Douglas motorization components are
covered for 5 years from the date of purchase.
