GETTING STARTED
Thank you for purchasing Hunter Douglas Duette®and Applause®Honeycomb Shades. With
proper installation and care, your new shades will provide years of beauty and performance.
Please thoroughly review this instruction booklet and the enclosed packing list before
beginning the installation.
Tools and Fasteners Needed
 Flat blade and Phillips screwdrivers
 Pencil
 Power drill,
3
⁄ 32 " drill bit, and
1
⁄ 4 " hex driver
 Scissors
 Double-sided tape (to attach Arch Cover or Disc Cover)
In addition, you will need fasteners designed to work with your specific mounting surface(s).
 #6 Hex Head Screws (Provided). Two 1
1
⁄ 2 " screws are provided per specialty bracket.
 #6 Flat Head Screws (Provided). If end mounting a rectangular shade, use two 1
1
⁄ 2 "
screws per installation bracket.
 Drywall Anchors (Not Provided). Use drywall anchors when mounting into drywall.
Installation Overview
IMPORTANT: Arches, Circles, and Quarter Circle shades can only be mounted on the inside
of the window casement.
 Your order will include specialty brackets and hardware specific to your pleat size and
shade type.

Prepare the Stand-Alone Arch
The arch fabric and filler strip are shipped
attached to the rail.
 Position the rail so the trimmed edge is
on the right.
 Remove the left end cap from the rail.
NOTE: On an imperfect arch, the inside
edge of the fabric stack will be straight
and even, while the outside edge will be
trimmed and uneven.
 Slide the fabric stack and filler strip
down toward the left side of the rail.
 Gently bend the filler strip and insert it
into the top cell of the fabric stack.
IMPORTANT: If a tension support cord
was included with your arch, be careful
not to pull out the cord from the cell it is
threaded through. If necessary, rethread
the support cord through the center cell
of the arch.
 Fan out the fabric and slide the top cell
into the fabric channels of the rail.
 For the 1

⁄ 4 " pleat size, pull the
fabric away from the edges of the
filler strip to prevent the rail from
snagging the fabric as you slide
the filler strip into the rail. See
photo below.
 If you have a tension support cord, pull
the cord taut as you fan out and slide
the fabric onto the rail. See photo to
the right.
 Center the arch on the rail.
 Insert the end cap back into the rail.

Mount the Specialty Brackets
 Your order will include specialty brackets specific to your
pleat size.
 The number of specialty brackets required varies with
shade width, as shown in the table.
NOTE: The specialty bracket for
3
⁄ 4 " pleat size is shown; the installation procedures
for other pleat sizes are the same.
 Bend the two tabs of the bracket templates downward and insert the tabs into the holes
in the rail as shown below. Use the holes near each end, whenever possible.
NOTE: There are extra holes in the rail in case the holes nearest each end do not work
for your specific application.
IMPORTANT: Make sure the double-sided tape on the bracket templates is facing away
from the rail.
 Remove the backing from the double-sided tape on the bracket templates.
 Place the rail inside the window opening at the desired mounting location.
 Press the rail against the mounting surface until the templates stick to the mounting
surface.

 Carefully remove the shade from the window opening.
IMPORTANT: Make sure the templates stay on the mounting surface.
 Mark the screw holes.
 Carefully remove the templates from
the mounting surface.
 Drill the screw holes using a
3
⁄ 32 "
drill bit.
 Attach the specialty brackets using
the screws provided.
IMPORTANT: The specialty
brackets should be level and aligned.

Install the Stand-Alone Arch
 Install the shade into the specialty brackets.
 Push the rail into the brackets and rotate
down until it latches.
IMPORTANT: Make sure the fabric is not
caught between the bracket tabs and the rail
and that the spring tabs are on the back of
the rail.
 Attach the arch cover, if desired.
 Affix the arch cover to the center of the
arch using double-sided tape.
If arch support clips or hooks are provided, proceed to
“Attach Support Clips or Hooks” on page13.

Mount the Rectangular Shade
IMPORTANT: Arches can only be attached to a rectangular shade that is end mount.
For end mount bracket location and headrail installation, refer to the “End Mount” section in
the Installation, Operation, and Care instructions that came with your rectangular shade.
Attach the Arch to the Rectangular Shade
The headrail of the rectangular shade has a magnetic strip attached to the top of the rail. The
fabric stack has magnets attached to the two metal filler strips that are inserted into the top
cell and bottom cell of the arch fabric stack.
NOTE: On an imperfect arch, the inside edge of the fabric stack will be straight and even,
and the outside edge will be trimmed and uneven.
IMPORTANT: The magnet attached to each filler strip ends 3" short of the outside edges to
accommodate the installation brackets.
 Check that the filler strips in the top
and bottom cells of the arch fabric
stack are aligned with the ends of the
fabric stack.
 Place the fabric stack on top of the
rail with the colored side of the fabric
facing you.
 On the right side of the headrail, lay
the bottom cell of the fabric stack onto
the magnet.
 Fan out the fabric.
 On the left side of the headrail,
lay the top cell onto the magnet.
 Center the arch on the rail. If
necessary, adjust the filler strip
in the top and bottom cells of the
fabric stack.
If arch support clips or hooks are provided, proceed to
“Attach Support Clips or Hooks” on page13.
