GETTING STARTED
Thank you for purchasing Hunter Douglas Duette®honeycomb shades. With proper installation
and care, your new shades will provide years of beauty and performance.
Please thoroughly review this instruction booklet and the enclosed packing list before beginning
the installation.
Tools and Fasteners Needed
■Flat blade and Phillips screwdrivers
■Pencil
■Power drill,
3
/ 32 " drill bit, and
1
/ 4 " hex driver
■Scissors
In addition, you will need fasteners designed to work with your specific mounting surface(s).
■#6 Hex Head Screws (Provided). Two 1

/ 2 " screws are provided per specialty bracket.
■#6 Flat Head Screws (Provided). If end mounting a rectangular shade, use two 1

/ 2 "
screws per installation bracket.
■Drywall Anchors (Not Provided). Use drywall anchors when mounting into drywall.
Installation Overview
IMPORTANT: Arches, Circles, and Quarter Circle shades can only be mounted on the inside of
the window casement.
■Your order will include specialty brackets and hardware specific to your pleat size and
shadetype.

STAND-ALONE ARCH INSTALLATION

Prepare the Stand-Alone Arch
The arch fabric and filler strip are shipped attached to the rail.
■Remove the left end cap from the rail.
NOTE: On an imperfect arch, the inside
edge of the fabric stack will be straight
and even, while the outside edge will be
trimmed anduneven.
■Slide the fabric stack and filler strip down
toward the left side of the rail.
■Gently bend the filler strip and insert it
into the top cell of the fabricstack.
IMPORTANT: If a tension
support cord was included
with your arch, be careful
not to pull out the cord from
the cell it is threaded through.
If necessary, rethread the support
cord through the center cell of
the arch.
■Fan out the fabric and slide the top cell
into the fabric channels of therail.
➤For

/ 8 " Architella®fabric and 1

pleat size, pull the fabric away from
the edges of the filler strip, to
prevent the rail from snagging the
fabric as you slide the filler strip
into the rail. Seephoto.
➤For Architella Trielle™fabric, fan
out the fabric and slide the top
cell into the rail until both ends of
the fabric are flush with the ends
of the rail.
➤If you have a tension support cord, pull the
cord taut as you fan out and slide the fabric
onto the rail. See photo.
■Center the arch on therail.
■Insert the end cap back into the rail.

Mount the Specialty Brackets
■Your order will include specialty brackets specific to your
pleat size.
➤The number of specialty brackets required varies with
shade width, as shown in the table.
NOTE: The specialty bracket for
3
/ 4 " pleat size is shown; the installation procedures for
other pleat sizes are the same.
■Bend the two tabs of the bracket templates downward and insert the tabs into the holes in
the rail as shown below. Use the holes near each end, whenever possible.
NOTE: There are extra holes in the rail in case the holes nearest each end do not work for
your specific application.
IMPORTANT: Make sure the double-sided tape on the bracket templates is facing away
from the rail.
■Remove the backing from the double-sided tape on the bracket templates.
■Place the rail inside the window opening at the desired mounting location.
■Press the rail against the mounting surface until the templates stick to the mounting
surface.

■Carefully remove the shade from the window opening.
IMPORTANT: Make sure the templates stay on the mounting surface.
■Mark the screw holes.
■Carefully remove the templates from the mounting surface.
■Drill the screw holes using a

■Attach the specialty brackets using the
screws provided.
IMPORTANT: The specialty brackets
should be level andaligned.

Install the Stand-Alone Arch
■Install the shade into the specialty brackets.
➤Push the rail into the brackets and rotate
down until it latches.
IMPORTANT: Make sure the fabric is not caught
between the bracket tabs and the rail and that the
spring tabs are on the back of the rail.
■Attach the arch cover, if desired.
➤Affix the arch cover to the center of the arch
using double-sided tape.
If using arch support clips or hooks, proceed to “Attach Support Clips or Hooks”
on page13.

Mount the Installation Brackets for an Arch Sharing a Rectangular
Shade Headrail
For end mount bracket location and headrail installation, refer to the “End Mount” section in the
Installation, Operation, and Care instructions that came with your rectangular shade.
Attach the Arch to the Rectangular Shade
The headrail of the shade has a magnetic strip attached to the top of the rail. The fabric stack
has two metal filler strips inserted into the top and bottom cell of the arch fabric stack.
NOTE: On an imperfect arch, the inside edge of the fabric stack will be straight and even, and
the outside edge will be trimmed and uneven.
■Check that the filler strips in the top and
bottom cells of the arch fabric stack are
aligned with the ends of the fabric stack.
IMPORTANT: A magnet is attached to
the filler strips, ending 3" short of the right
edge to accommodate the installation
brackets.
■Place the fabric stack on top of the
rail with the colored side of the
fabric facingyou.
■On the right side of the headrail,
lay the bottom cell of the fabric
stack onto themagnet.
■Fan out the fabric.
■On the left side of the headrail,
lay the top cell onto the magnet.
■Center the arch on therail. If
necessary, adjust the filler strip
in the top and bottom cells of
the fabricstack.
If using arch support clips or hooks, proceed to “Attach Support Clips or Hooks”
on page13.

Install the Quarter Circle
■Install the shade into the specialty brackets.
➤Push the side rail into the brackets and rotate
toward the window frame until it latches.
➤Carefully fan out the bottom rail.
➤Push the bottom rail into the brackets and
rotate down until it latches.
IMPORTANT: Make sure the fabric is not caught
between the bracket tabs and the rail and that the
spring tabs are on the back of the rail.
■Attach the quarter circle cover, if desired.
➤Affix the quarter circle cover to the corner of the
quarter circle using double-sided tape.
If using arch support clips or hooks, proceed to “Attach Support Clips or Hooks”
on page13.

CIRCLE INSTALLATION

Prepare the Circle
■Stand the cylinder up with the loose cords at the
top. The top becomes the outside curve of the circle.
■Flatten the cylinder into the circle by gently pushing
down and out on the top.
IMPORTANT: Be careful not to let the loose ends of the
cords slide into the cells.
Attach the Arch Support Clips or Hooks
■Your order will include four arch
support clips: one for the top center,
one for the bottom center, one for
the center of the left side, and one
for the center of the right side.
■Minimum mounting depth is 1".
■Minimum mounting depth for a fully
recessed circle shade is:

■Attach four arch support clips to the circle mounting surface through the hole in the top of
the clip with provided screws. Do not tighten the screws yet.

Install the Circle
■Place the shade in the window opening with the cords positioned at the top, bottom, left
side, and right side, corresponding to the locations of the arch support clips.
■Wrap the left end cord around the screw holding the left arch support clip.
➤Tighten the screw on the left arch support clip.
■Pull the cord taut and wrap the right end of the cord around the right arch support clip.
➤Tighten the screw on the right arch support clip.
■Use scissors to trim any excess horizontal cords.
■Repeat the process for the vertical cords with the top and bottom arch support clips.
■Carefully tuck the shade into the clips.
➤If necessary, bend or reconfigure to shape the circle to
the best possible appearance.
■Attach the disc cover, if desired.
➤Affix the disc cover to the center of the circle using
double-sided tape.

Attach Support Clips or Hooks
Arch Support Clips are used to keep the shade from falling against the window
or out of (or away from) the window frame.
Arch Support Hooks provide the same function as arch clips in addition to
actual support of the shade fabric.
IMPORTANT: The correct number of arch support clips or arch support hooks were shipped
with your shade.
IMPORTANT: With the shade installed, mark the correct depth or placement of the arch
support clips or hooks. Remove the shade before installing the clips or hooks.
Install the Arch Support Clips (If Applicable)
■Attach clips to the mounting
surface through the hole in the
top of the clip.
■Install the first clip at the top of
the arch above the center cell of
the fabric.
■If necessary, space additional
clips evenly along the arch so
the clips are spaced no more than 19" apart.
Install the Arch Support Hooks (If Applicable)
■Count the number of hooks supplied to support your shade.
➤Odd Number of Hooks: Position the first hook at the
top center of the window opening. Position the next
two hooks at 45º from the center hook. Space the
remaining hooks evenly between 45º and 90º.
IMPORTANT: Do not position the hooks lower than 45º
from the bottom of the arch.
➤Even Number of Hooks: Position the first two hooks at a 45º angle from the bottom
center of the arch. Space the remaining hooks evenly.

■Attach the arch support hooks
with the screws provided. Be
sure to mount the hooks at a
consistent depth within the
window frame.
Install the Arch Into the Arch Support Clips or Hooks
■Support the fabric as you install the arch.
■If a center support cord is used:
➤Loosen the screw on the top arch support clip or hook. If one does not exist, place a
screw at the top center of the arch.
➤Wrap the top end of the support cord around the screw. The support cord should
be tight, to help support the headrail.
➤Tighten the screw on the top arch support clip or hook.
■If arch support clips are used:
➤Carefully tuck the shade into the clips.
■If arch support hooks are used:
➤Carefully use the pointed end of the hooks to
puncture the fabric between the glue lines (at least
1
/ 8 " into the cell).
➤Continue to support the fabric until all arch support
clips or arch support hooks are engaged.
■If necessary, bend or reconfigure to shape the arch to the best possible appearance.

Removing the Shade (If Necessary)
Specialty Brackets
■Push the rail against the brackets to release
the latch and lift it out of the brackets.
Arch Support Clips or Arch Support Hooks
■If applicable, carefully remove the shade fabric from the arch support clips or arch support
hooks.
Removing the Rectangular Shade
■Lower the shade approximately4".
■While holding the headrail, push back on the bottom
tab of the installation bracket to release the bottom
edge of the headrail.
■After releasing the bottom edge, roll the back of the
headrail down and out from thebracket.

Cleaning Procedures
Hunter Douglas Duette®honeycomb shades are made of anti-static, dust-resistant fabric which
repels dirt and dust. For most honeycomb fabrics, the following cleaning options are available.
Dusting
■Regular light dusting with a feather duster is all the cleaning that is needed in most
circumstances.
Vacuuming
CAUTION: Do not vacuum Elan® and Myst™ semi-opaque and opaque fabrics.
■For deeper cleaning, vacuum gently with a brush attachment.
Compressed Air/Hair Dryer (Cool Setting)
■Use compressed air or a hair-dryer on a cool setting to blow dust and dirt off shades.
Spot-Cleaning
CAUTION: Do not spot-clean Batiste, Commercial Opaque, Elan, Macon™, Myst, and
Opalessence™fabrics.
■Prepare a solution of warm water and a mild detergent.
■Dampen a clean cloth in the solution and wring it out.
■Dab the spot with the dampened cloth until it is removed. Do not rub the fabric.
■Allow the shade to dry in the completely closed position.
Bathtub Cleaning/Water Immersion
CAUTION: Do not immerse Batiste, Elan, India Silk, Macon, Meritage™, Myst, Opalessence,
Panache™, Renewal™, Voyant™, and all opaque fabrics.
■Immerse the shade in a basin or bathtub filled with warm water and a mild detergent.
■Rinse with clean water.
■Before removing from the rinse water, fully raise the shade and tilt it to allow excess water
to drain off.
■Dry the shade completely in the closed position.

Ultrasonic Cleaning
CAUTION: Do not ultrasonically clean Batiste, Commercial, Myst™, Voyant™and all
opaque fabrics.
■Specify that a mild detergent solution be used.
■Dry the shade completely in the closed position.
Injection/Extraction Cleaning
This type of professional cleaning injects a cleaning solution into the fabric and extracts the dirty
solution in the same motion.
■Use only the dry method of injection/extraction for Architella® Elan®
3
/ 4 " and 1
1
/ 4 " pleats
and Panache™
3
/ 4 " fabrics.
■If using injection/extraction for Batiste Bamboo and Batiste Textured™fabrics, specify that no
chemicals are used (wateronly).

date of purchase.
• Repairs and/or replacements will be made with
like or similar parts or products.

covered for 5 years from the date of purchase.

• Any conditions caused by normal wear and tear.
• Abuse, accidents, misuse or alterations to the

water/moisture) and discoloration or fading
