Informationen zum Vorbild
Die Schweizerischen Bundesbahnen (SBB) gaben 1978 vier
Prototypen einer elektrischen Universal-Streckenlokomo-
tive in Auftrag. Die Maschinen mit einer Dauerleistung von
4.475 kW und einen maximalen Geschwindigkeit von
160 km/h erhielten die Bezeichnung Re 4/4IV. Die im Windka-
nal entwickelte Kopfform und die fensterlosen, aus Gründen
der Gewichts- und Kostenersparnis gerippten Seitenwände
prägen das neue Erscheinungsbild.
Ursprünglich waren die Seitenwandpartien aller Maschinen
farblich verschieden gestaltet. 1986 wurden die Maschinen
zunächst als „Bahn 2000“ einheitlich rot lackiert. Nach dem
mit der Reihe 460 vorgestellten neuen Erscheinungsbild der
SBB wurden die nunmehr als Reihe 440 bezeichneten Loko-
motiven 1992 nochmals umgestaltet.
Information about the Prototype
In 1978 the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) ordered four proto-
types of a multi-purpose electric road locomotive. These units
were classified as Re 4/4IV and had a continuous output of
4,475 kilowatts and maximum speed of 160 km/h (approx. 100
m.p.h.) The locomotives appearance is characterized by nose
structures that were developed in wind tunnel tests and by win-
dow-less, ribbed sides, so designed to save weight and costs.
Originally the sides of each locomotive hat a paint scheme dif-
ferent from that of the other units. In 1986 these locomotives
were initially painted a standard red color as “Bahn 2000” (”Rail
2000”). After the SBB’s new look was introduced with the class
460, these units, now the class 440, were painted again in 1992.

En 1978, les chemins de fer fédéraux suisses (CFF) ont com-
mandé 4 prototypes d’une motrice pour tous services. Ces
motrices développaient une puissance de 4.475 kW et leur
vitesse maxima était de 160 km/h. Elles ont été immatriculées
Re 4/4IV. Les faces frontales ainsi que les faces latérales
sans fenêtres ont été mises au point en soufflerie. Pour des
raisons d’économie de poids et d’économie tout court, ces
faces ont été réalisées en tôle cannelée. Initialement, les
faces latérales étaient peintes différemment; En 1986 sous
l’appellation «Train 2000», toutes les locomotives furent re-
peintes en rouge. En 1992, les locomotives, désormais dési-
gnées sous la série 440, furent à nouveau modifiées selon la
nouvelle apparence présentée par la série 460 des CFF.

De Zwitserse Spoorwegen (SBB) gaven in 1978 opdracht
voor de bouw van vier prototypes van een electrische uni-
versele locomotief. De machines met een continuvermogen
van 4.475 kW en een maximumsnelheid van 160 km/u kregen
de aanduiding Re 4/4IV. De in een windtunnel ontwikkelde
kopvorm en de vensterloze, ter besparing van gewicht en
kosten geribde zijwanden zijn karakteristiek voor het nieuwe
uiterlijk. Oorspronkelijk was de beschildering van de zijwan-
den van alle machines verschillend. In 1986 werden de loco-
motieven eerst als “Bahn 2000” in de standaard kleur rood
geschilderd. Volgens het nieuwe SBB-uiterlijk dat met de
Serie 460 gepressenteerd werd, werden de locomotieven die
voortaan als serie 440 aangeduid werden, in 1992 nogmaals
anders uitgerust.

Sicherheitshinweise
• Die Lok darf nur mit einem dafür bestimmten Betriebssys-
tem (Märklin Wechselstrom, Märklin Delta,
Märklin Digital oder Märklin Systems) eingesetzt werden.
• Nur Schaltnetzteile/Transformatoren verwenden, die Ihrer
örtlichen Netzspannung entsprechen.
• Die Lok darf nur aus einer Leistungsquelle versorgt werden.
• Beachten Sie unbedingt die Sicherheitshinweise in der
Bedienungsanleitung zu Ihrem Betriebssystem.
• Für den konventionellen Betrieb der Lok muss das
Anschlussgleis entstört werden. Dazu ist das Entstörset
74046 zu verwenden. Für Digitalbetrieb ist das Entstörset
nicht geeignet.
• Setzen Sie das Modell keiner direkten Sonneneinstrah-
lung, starken Temperaturschwankungen oder hoher
Luftfeuchtigkeit aus.
Allgemeine Hinweise
• Die Bedienungsanleitung und die Verpackung sind Be-
standteil des Produktes und müssen deshalb aufbewahrt
sowie bei Weitergabe des Produktes mitgegeben werden.
• Für Reparaturen oder Ersatzteile wenden Sie sich bitte an
Ihren Märklin-Fachhändler.

component part of the product and must therefore be kept
as well as transferred along with the product to others.

Remarques importantes sur la sécurité
• La locomotive ne peut être mise en service qu’avec un
système d’exploitation adéquat (Märklin AC,
Märklin Delta, Märklin Digital ou Märklin Systems).
• Utiliser uniquement des convertisseurs et transformateurs
correspondant à la tension du secteur local.
• La locomotive ne peut être alimentée en courant que par
une seule source de courant.
• Veuillez impérativement respecter les remarques sur la
sécurité décrites dans le mode d’emploi de votre système
d’exploitation.
• Pour l’exploitation de la locomotive en mode convention-
nel, la voie de raccordement doit être déparasitée. A cet
effet, utiliser le set de déparasitage réf. 74046. Le set de
déparasitage ne convient pas pour l’exploitation en mode
numérique.
• Ne pas exposer le modèle à un ensoleillement direct, à de
fortes variations de température ou à un taux d‘humidité
important.

• La notice d‘utilisation et l’emballage font partie intégrante
du produit ; ils doivent donc être conservés et, le cas
échéant, transmis avec le produit.
• Pour toute réparation ou remplacement de pièces, adres-
ses-vous à votre détaillant-spécialiste Märklin.
