Information about the Prototype
At the start of the 1950’s the demand for transport had incre-
ased to such a point that the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB)
were compelled to develope a new type of locomotive. The
new locomotive was designed to be more powerful, faster
and lighter in weight. The result was the class Ae 6/6 which
was the main source of motive power for years on the Gott-
hard route. The six-axle locomotive (Co’Co’) had an output of
4400 kilowatts (6000 hp) and a top speed of 125 km/h
(approx. 78 m.p.h.); it was capable of pulling a 770 ton train
over the Gotthard Pass. This resulted in considerably shorter
schedule times and savings, for prevoiously all trains had to
be operated with double headed motive power.
All total, 120 units of this powerful locomotive were built,
and they left their mark on freight traffic on the Gotthard
route well into the 1970’s. The coats-of-arms for Swiss
cantons were put on the first 25 units, and the coats-of-arms
for sponsoring Swiss citis were put on the rest.
Informationen zum Vorbild
Anfang der 1950er-Jahre waren die zu bewältigenden Trans-
portleistungen so gestiegen, dass sich die Schweizerischen
Bundesbahnen (SBB) gezwungen sahen, einen neuen Loko-
motivtyp zu entwickeln. Die neue Lok sollte leistungsfähiger,
schneller und vor allem auch leichter sein. So entstand
die Baureihe Ae 6/6, die lange Jahre die Hauptlast des
Zugförderungsdienstes am Gotthard trug. Die sechsachsige
Lok (Co’Co’) mit einer Leistung von 4.400 kW (6.000 PS) und
einer Höchstgeschwindigkeit von 125 km/h war in der Lage,
einen Zug von 770 t Gesamtgewicht über den Gotthard zu
führen. Dies ergab eine deutliche Fahrzeitverkürzung und
Einsparungen, denn zuvor mussten alle Züge in Doppeltrak-
tion geführt werden.
Insgesamt wurden von dieser leistungsfähigen Lok, die bis
in die Siebziger Jahre dem Güterzugverkehr am Gotthard ihr
Gepräge gab, 120 Stück gebaut. Die ersten 25 Maschinen
erhielten Wappentafeln der Schweizer Kantone, die weite-
ren die Wappen von Patenstädten.

Aan het begin van de jaren vijftig waren de te vervoeren
hoeveelheden goederen zo gegroeid dat de Schweizerische
Bundesbahnen (SBB) zich verplicht zagen een nieuw type
lokomotief te ontwikkelen. De nieuwe lok moest sterker,
sneller en vooral ook lichter zijn. Zo ontstand de serie Ae 6/6,
die vele jaren het leeuwedeel van de transporten via de
Gotthard voor zijn rekening nam. De zesassige lok (Co’Co’)
met een vermogen van 4400 kW (6000 pk) en een maximum
snelheid van 125 km/h was in staat een trein van in totaal
770 t over de Gotthard te trekken. Dat leverde een aanmer-
kelijke verkorting van de rijtijd, maar ook besparingen want
voorheen moesten alle treinen in dubbeltractie getrokken
worden.
In totaal werden er van deze sterke lok die tot in de jaren
zventig zijn stempel op het goederenvervoer drukte, 120
exemplaren gebouwd. De eerste 25 machines kregen
wapenschilden van de Zwitserse kantons, de rest werd
voorzien van het wapen van één van de peetsteden.

Au début des années 50, les puissances de traction né-
cessaires étaient devenues tellement importantes que les
Chemins de Fer Fédéraux suisses (CFF/SBB/FFS) s’étaient
vus contraints de développer un nouveau type de locomo-
tive.La nouvelle locomotive devait être plus puissante, plus
rapide et surtout plus légère. C’est aisni que naquit la série
Ae 6/6 qui assura pendant de longues années l’essentiel
des services de traction sur le Gotthard. Cette locomotive à
six essieux (Co’Co’) d’une puissance de 4400 kW (6000 CV)
avec une vitesse maximum de 125 km/h était capable de
faire franchir le Saint Gotthard à un train de 770 t de masse
totale. Ceci se traduisit par des gains de temps importants et
des économies, car les tractions devaient auparavant être
assurées en double traction.
Au total, ce furent 120 unités de cette locomotive puissante
qui furent construites, marquant de leur image le trafic
marchandises sur la ligne du Saint Gotthard jusqu’aux
années soixante-dix. Les 25 premières machines ont reçu
des blasons de contons suisses, les suivantes des blasons
de villes de parrainage.

Sicherheitshinweise
• Die Lok darf nur mit einem dafür bestimmten Betriebs-
system (Märklin Wechselstrom, Märklin Delta,
Märklin Digital oder Märklin Systems) eingesetzt werden.
• Nur Schaltnetzteile/Transformatoren verwenden, die
Ihrer örtlichen Netzspannung entsprechen.
• Die Lok darf nur aus einer Leistungsquelle versorgt
werden.
• Beachten Sie unbedingt die Sicherheitshinweise in der
Bedienungsanleitung zu Ihrem Betriebssystem.
• Für den konventionellen Betrieb der Lok muss das
Anschlussgleis entstört werden. Dazu ist das Entstörset
74046 zu verwenden. Für Digitalbetrieb ist das Entstörset
nicht geeignet.
• Setzen Sie das Modell keiner direkten Sonneneinstrah-
lung, starken Temperaturschwankungen oder hoher
Luftfeuchtigkeit aus.
Allgemeine Hinweise
• Die Bedienungsanleitung und die Verpackung sind
Bestandteile des Produktes und müssen deshalb aufbe-
wahrt sowie bei Weitergabe des Produktes mitgegeben
werden.
• Für Reparaturen oder Ersatzteile wenden Sie sich bitte an
Ihren Märklin-Fachhändler.

Safety Notes

more than one transformer.
• Pay close attention to the safety notes in the
instructions for your operating system.
• The feeder track must be equipped to prevent inter-
ference with radio and television reception, when the
locomotive is to be run in conventional operation. The
74046 interference suppression set is to be used for this
purpose.
• Do not expose the model to direct sunlight, extreme
changes in temperature, or high humidity.
General Notes
• The operating instructions and the packaging are a com-
ponent part of the product and must therefore be kept as
well as transferred along with the product to others.

spare parts.

Remarques importantes sur la sécurité
• La locomotive ne peut être mise en service qu’avec
un système d’exploitation adéquat (Märklin AC,
Märklin Delta, Märklin Digital ou Märklin Systems).
• Utiliser uniquement des convertisseurs et transforma-
teurs correspondant à la tension du secteur local.
• La locomotive ne peut être alimentée en courant que par
une seule source de courant.
• Veuillez impérativement respecter les remarques sur la
sécurité décrites dans le mode d’emploi de votre système
d’exploitation.
• Pour l’exploitation de la locomotive en mode convention-
nel, la voie de raccordement doit être déparasitée. A cet
effet, utiliser le set de déparasitage réf. 74046. Le set de
déparasitage ne convient pas pour l’exploitation en mode
numérique.
• Ne pas exposer le modèle à un ensoleillement direct,
à de fortes variations de température ou à un taux
d‘humidité important.
Informations générales
• La notice d‘utilisation et l’emballage font partie intégrante
du produit ; ils doivent donc être conservés et, le cas
échéant, transmis avec le produit.
• Pour toute réparation ou remplacement de pièces, adres-
ses-vous à votre détaillant-spécialiste Märklin.
