Selection and Application
Description
EXTENSION DAVIT:
The extension davit is a square stru tural steel tube for atta hment of the Top An hor Bra ket of the Sure-Climb ladder limbing fall prote tion system.
The davit serves to raise the upper point of atta hment for the Sure-Climb able lifeline. The Extension Davit is atta hed to the Davit Base in luded
with this system.
DAVIT BASE:
The davit Base is the means by whi h the Extension Davit is atta hed to the ladder an horage. The Base is permanently se ured to three (3) ladder
rungs using bolt-on lamps (provided), whi h bolt to the threaded studs on the re epta le. The Davit Base is onstru ted of plated steel tube whi h

Instructions for Use
PURPOSE O THE EXTENSION DAVIT SYSTEM:
The primary purpose of the Sure-Climb Extension Davit system is to serve as an an horage onne ting means for a ladder- limbing fall arrest system.
The Extension Davit extends the usable length of the able lifeline of the Sure-Climb system above the level of the uppermost rung on the ladder.
The Extension Davit enables the worker to limb above the ladder to a safe working level while remaining tied-off to the fall arrest system.
Use of the Extension davit system must omply with these User Instru tions and, further, is subje t to approval under the users safety rules and
regulations and by the users safety dire tor, supervisor, or a qualified safety engineer. Be ertain the sele tion of the verti al mount davit system
is suited for the intended use and work environment. If there is any onfli t between these User Instru tions and other dire tives or pro edures of
the users organization, do not use the verti al mounting system until su h onfli ts are resolved. Consult all lo al, state, and federal O upational
Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) requirements for personal safety equipment. Also refer to the latest revision of ANSI Z359.1 and ANSI
A10.14 standards for more information on an horage onne tors and asso iated system omponents. In Canada, refer to CAN/CSA Z 259.2.1, and
provin ial and federal regulations.
USAGE LIMITATIONS:
The following appli ation limitations must be onsidered and planned for before using the verti al mount davit system.
Physical Limitations:
The Extension davit system is designed for use by one person with a ombined total weight less than 310 lbs (141 kg), in luding lothing, tools, and
other user-borne obje ts. Persons with mus ular, skeletal, or other physi al disorders should onsult a physi ian before using. Pregnant women
and minors must never use the verti al mount davit system. In reasing age and lowered physi al fitness may redu e a person's ability to withstand
sho k loads during fall arrest or prolonged suspension. Consult a physi ian if there is any question about physi al ability to safely use this produ t
to arrest a fall or suspend.
Environment:
Chemi al hazards, heat and orrosion may damage the Extension Davit. More frequent inspe tions are required in these environments. Do not use
in environments with temperatures greater than 185oF (85oC). Use aution when working around ele tri al hazards, moving ma hinery and abrasive
surfa es.
General Precautions:
This system must be installed and used under the supervision of a qualified person.
Use only with a suitable steel structural ladder.
Use only with compatible MSA components.
Do not expose the worker to hazard during installation and removal of the vertical mount davit system.
Connect no more than one (1) personal fall arrest subsystems to the vertical mount davit system at one time.
In addition to these User Instru tions, refer to instru tions provided with the MSA Sure-Climb ladder able system. Ref. # SLCS001.
INSTALLATION:
Step 1:
Bolt the upper able An hor Bra ket, part number SFLS350001,
to the top of the Extension Davit arm. Use the four (4) 1/2
in h bolts provided with the Sure-Climb system.
See igure 1.
Notice:
There are two reinfor ement plates at the top atta hment
point, while there is only one reinfor ement plate on the
ba k side of the davit arm at the lower atta hment point.

Step 2:
Mount the Davit Base to the top three (3) rungs of the ompatible steel ladder. Assemble the lamps onto the ladder
rungs from the ba k side of the ladder. Clamps are ea h bolted to two threaded studs protruding from the ba k of the
Davit Base. Mount the Davit Base verti ally on the ladder with the Base entered between the ladder hand rails.
Tighten the lamps onto their respe tive rungs, using bolts and washers provided, until the lamps begin to deform
around ea h rung. See igure 2.
Step 3:
Install the bolt provided through the bottom of the Davit Base. Then slide the Extension Davit into the Base so that
the bottom of the Davit tests on the through - bolt in the Base. See igure 3.
Step 4:
Install the remaining omponents of the Sure-Climb able system a ording to the instru tions provided with the produ t.
Step 5:
Inspe t the ompleted installation to verify that the Sure-Climb Extension Davit and Base Assembly has been assembled
a ording to the manufa turers instru tions. Verify that all omponents are present, that all bolts and nuts have been
installed orre tly and are tightened as spe ified.
USAGE:
Use the Sure-Climb Extension Davit and Base Assembly as dire ted in the Sure-Climb ladder able system. Do not
onne t more than one person to the ladder able system at one time. Do not ex eed the maximum apa ity of 310
lbs (141 kg) of the system.
Care, Maintenance, and Storage
User maintenan e onsists of leaning and drying the verti al mount davit system. All other maintenan e or repair work must be done at the fa tory
or by persons authorized in writing by MSA.
CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS:
To lean, periodi ally use a lean damp (not wet) loth to remove dirt or ontamination whi h may ause orrosion or hamper readability of labels.
Wipe off any moisture before returning the devi e to servi e. The frequen y of leaning should be determined by inspe tion and by severity of the
environment. In highly orrosive environments leaning should be done every two or three days. Never use solvents to lean verti al mount davit
system as they may break down the label adhesive. Don't use abrasives to s our the verti al mount davit system as they may damage the plating
and the labels. To remove oil or grease, use a mild dishwater detergent on a damp loth or sponge and follow by repeated swabbing with a lean
damp loth to remove all soap residue. Never immerse the produ t in water or other liquid.
STORAGE:
Store the devi e in a lean, dry pla e indoors. Store the produ t away from heat and steam and never allow it to rest for lengthy periods of time on
on rete or ash floors as the lime sulfur and ash an ause orrosion.
