Handhabung des Produkts.
2 Produktbeschreibung
2.1 Funktion
Das Produkt dient zur Energieversorgung einer Prothese.
Das Produkt besteht aus mehreren Komponenten. Diese Komponenten sind untrennbar miteinan
der verbunden und montagefertig.
2.2 Komponenten
Das Produkt besteht aus folgenden Komponenten:
Akku
Der Akku (siehe Abb.1, Pos.1) besteht aus 2 Zellen mit integrierter Elektronik. Diese schützt den
Akku vor Kurzschluss, Überspannung, Unterspannung und vor einem Ladevorgang im unzulässi
gen Temperaturbereich.
Ladebuchse
Die Ladebuchse (siehe Abb.1, Pos.2) besitzt folgende Funktionen:
• Kontakt zum Laden des Akkus
• LED zur Anzeige des aktuellen Ladezustands
• LED zur Rückmeldung von Betriebszuständen
• Taster zum Ein- und Ausschalten der Prtohese, zur Abfrage des Ladezustands und zur Notöff
nung der Prothese
• Pieper zur Rückmeldung von Betriebszuständen
• Taster zur Aktivierung der Bluetoothfunktion
Kommunikationskabel
Das Kommunikationskabel ( siehe Abb.1, Pos.3) dient zum Datenaustausch und stellt die Ver
bindung zwischen dem Produkt und den jeweiligen Prothesenkomponenten her.
Anschlusskabel
Das Anschlusskabel ( siehe Abb.1, Pos.4) dient zum Anstecken des AxonMaster 13E500. Bei
der Verwendung des Akkus in einem Ellbogengelenk, wird an diesem Anschlusskabel das Unter
armkabel der Beugehilfe (AFB) angesteckt.
3 Bestimmungsgemäße Verwendung
3.1 Verwendungszweck
Das Produkt ist ausschließlich zur exoprothetischen Versorgung der oberen Extremität zu verwen
den.

3.2 Einsatzbedingungen
Das Produkt ist für den Einsatz in Alltagsaktivitäten entwickelt. Es darf nicht für Aktivitäten ver
wendet werden, bei denen es unzulässigen Umgebungsbedingungen und Belastungen ausge
setzt wird (z.B. Extremsportarten).
Die zulässigen Umweltbedingungen sind den technischen Daten zu entnehmen (siehe Seite8).
3.3 Kontraindikationen
• Alle Bedingungen, die den Angaben im Kapitel „Sicherheit“ und "Bestimmungsgemäße Ver
wendung" widersprechen oder darüber hinausgehen.
3.4 Qualifikation
Die Versorgung eines Patienten mit dem Produkt darf nur von Orthopädietechnikern vorgenom
men werden, die von Ottobock durch eine entsprechende Schulung autorisiert wurden.
4 Sicherheit
4.1 Bedeutung der Warnsymbolik

►Bevor Sie Prothesenkomponenten (z.B. Greifkomponente) wechseln, schalten Sie das Pro
dukt aus.
VORSICHT
Überlastung durch außergewöhnliche Tätigkeiten
Verletzung durch unerwartetes Verhalten des Produkts infolge Fehlfunktion.
►Das Produkt wurde für Alltagsaktivitäten entwickelt und darf nicht für außergewöhnliche Tä
tigkeiten eingesetzt werden. Diese außergewöhnlichen Tätigkeiten umfassen z.B. Sportarten
mit übermäßiger Belastung des Handgelenks und/oder Stoßbelastung (Liegestütz, Down
hill, Mountainbike, …) oder Extremsportarten (Freiklettern, Paragleiten, etc.).
►Sorgfältige Behandlung des Produkts und seiner Komponenten erhöht nicht nur deren Le
benserwartung, sondern dient vor allem der persönlichen Sicherheit des Patienten!
►Sollten auf das Produkt und seinen Komponenten extreme Belastungen aufgebracht worden
sein, (z.B. durch Sturz, o.ä.), muss das Produkt umgehend auf Schäden überprüft werden.
Leiten Sie das Produkt ggf. an eine autorisierte Ottobock Servicestelle weiter.
VORSICHT
Eindringen von Schweiß in das Produkt
Verletzung und Verätzung durch Austreten von Akkuflüssigkeiten.
►Tragen Sie beim Ausbau bzw. Wechseln des Akkus Schutzbekleidung (mindestens Einweg
handschuhe, Schutzbrille).
►Vermeiden Sie einen direkten Hautkontakt!
VORSICHT
Verwendung des Produkts mit spitzen oder scharfen Gegenständen
Zerstörung oder Beschädigung des Produkts im Zuge des Einbaus.
►Verwenden Sie keine spitzen oder scharfen Gegenständen zum Einbaue des Produkts.
4.4 Patientenhinweise
WARNUNG
Betreiben des Produkts in der Nähe von aktiven, implantierten Systemen
Störung der aktiven, implantierbaren Systeme (z.B. Herzschrittmacher, Defibrillator, etc.) durch
erzeugte elektromagnetische Strahlung des Produkts.
►Achten Sie beim Betreiben des Produkts in unmittelbarer Nähe von aktiven, implantierbaren
Systemen darauf, dass die vom Implantat-Hersteller geforderten Mindestabstände eingehal
ten werden.
►Beachten Sie unbedingt die vom Implantat-Hersteller vorgeschriebenen Einsatzbedingun
gen und Sicherheitshinweise.
VORSICHT
Mechanische Belastung des Produkts
Verletzung durch Fehlsteuerung oder Fehlfunktion der Produktkomponenten.
►Setzen Sie das Produkt keinen mechanischen Vibrationen oder Stößen aus.
►Überprüfen Sie das Produkt vor jedem Einsatz auf sichtbare Schäden.

VORSICHT
Aufenthalt, Betrieb und Ladebetrieb in Bereichen außerhalb des zulässigen Temperatur
bereichs
Verletzung durch Fehlsteuerung oder Fehlfunktion des Produkts.
►Vermeiden Sie den Aufenthalt, den Betrieb und den Ladebetrieb in Bereichen außerhalb
des zulässigen Temperaturbereichs (siehe Seite8).
VORSICHT
Aufenthalt im Bereich starker magnetischer und elektrischer Störquellen (z.B. Dieb
stahlsicherungssysteme, Metalldetektoren)
Verletzung durch unerwartetes Verhalten des Produkts infolge Störung der internen Datenkom
munikation.
►Vermeiden Sie den Aufenthalt in der Nähe von sichtbaren oder verborgenen Diebstahlsiche
rungssystemen im Eingangs- / Ausgangsbereich von Geschäften, Metalldetektoren / Bodys
cannern für Personen (z.B. im Flughafenbereich) oder anderen starken magnetischen und
elektrischen Störquellen (z.B. Hochspannungsleitungen, Sender, Trafostationen, Computer
tomographen, Kernspintomographen …).
►Achten Sie beim Durchschreiten von Diebstahlsicherungssystemen, Bodyscannern, Metall
detektoren auf unerwartetes Verhalten des Produkts.
VORSICHT
Selbstständig vorgenommene Manipulationen am Produkt
Verletzung durch Fehlfunktion und daraus resultierenden unerwarteten Aktionen der Prothese.
►Außer den in dieser Gebrauchsanweisung beschriebenen Arbeiten dürfen Sie keine Mani
pulationen an dem Produkt durchführen.
►Das Öffnen und Reparieren des Produkts bzw. das Instandsetzen beschädigter Komponen
ten darf nur vom autorisierten Ottobock Fachpersonal durchgeführt werden.
VORSICHT
Laden des Produkts mit verschmutzten oder beschädigten Kontakten
Verletzung durch unerwartetes Verhalten des Produkts infolge unzureichender Ladefunktion.
►Achten Sie darauf, dass die Kontakte stets sauber und fettfrei sind.
►Reinigen Sie die elektrischen Kontakte von Ladestecker und Ladebuchse regelmäßig mit ei
nem Wattestäbchen und milder Seifenlauge.
►Achten Sie darauf, dass Sie die Kontakte keinesfalls mit spitzen oder scharfen Gegenstän
den beschädigen.
VORSICHT
Zu geringer Abstand zu HF Kommunikationsgeräten (z.B. Mobiltelefone, Bluetooth-Ge
räte, WLAN-Geräte)
Verletzung durch unerwartetes Verhalten des Produkts infolge Störung der internen Datenkom
munikation.
►Es wird daher empfohlen, zu HF Kommunikationsgeräten einen Mindestabstand von 30cm
einzuhalten.

6 Gebrauchsfähigkeit herstellen
6.1 Montage
Die Komponenten werden montagefertig ausgeliefert und können nicht getrennt werden.
Das Produkt kann in Kombination mit dem Komponentenhalter ausschließlich im Unterarmschaft
montiert werden. Die Montage der Ladebuchse erfolgt durch das Verkleben im Außenschaft. Die
Fixierung des Akkus erfolgt, je nach Platzverhältnisse, im Außenschaft oder zwischen dem
Außen- und Innenschaft. Bei geringen Platzverhältnissen wird der Akku im Außenschaft einlami
niert.
7 Handhabung
7.1 Ein- und Ausschalten der Greifkomponente
HINWEIS
Verschleißerscheinungen an den Produktkomponenten
Verletzungen durch Fehlsteuerung oder Fehlfunktion des Produkts.
►Ein zu fester Druck auf die Ladebuchse kann zu erhöhten Verschleiß auf den Taster führen.
►1) Taster in der Ladebuchse so lange gedrückt halten, bis ein Be
stätigungssignal ertönt (min. 1 Sekunde).
→Prothese und Prothesenkomponenten sind eingeschaltet.
Zum Ausschalten der Prothese und der Prothesenkomponenten, die
sen Vorgang wiederholen.
7.2 Akku laden
Ein tägliches Laden wird empfohlen. Bei längerer Nichtbenutzung sollte der Akkustand regelmä
ßig kontrolliert und der Akku nachgeladen werden.
1) Ladestecker an die Ladebuchse des Produkts anstecken.
→Die korrekte Verbindung vom Ladegerät zum Produkt wird durch Rückmeldungen ange
zeigt (siehe Seite10).
→Die Prothese wird automatisch ausgeschaltet.
→Der Ladevorgang wird gestartet.
2) Nach abgeschlossenem Ladevorgang, die Verbindung zum Produkt trennen.
7.3 Anzeige des aktuellen Ladezustands
Der Ladezustand kann jederzeit abgefragt werden.
1) Bei eingeschaltener Prothese die Taste der Ladebuchse kürzer als eine Sekunde drücken.
2) Die LED-Anzeige an der Ladebuchse gibt Auskunft über den aktuellen Ladezustand (Statussi
gnale).
7.4 Sicherheitsabschaltung
Die Sicherheitsabschaltung dient zum Schutz des Produkts und aktiviert sich bei:

• Über- und Untertemperatur der Akkuumgebung während des Ladevorgangs
• Kurzschluss
• Über- und Unterspannung
7.5 Notöffnen der Greifkomponente
Diese Sicherheitsfunktion ermöglicht das Öffnen der Axon-Bus Greif
komponente unabhängig von anliegenden Steuersignalen.
1) Bei eingeschaltetem Axon-Bus Prothesensystem Taster der Lade
buchse ca. drei Sekunden drücken bis die Axon-Bus Greifkompo
nente beginnt, sich zu öffnen.
→Während des Öffnens ertönt ein pulsierender Beep-Ton.
2) Durch Loslassen des Tasters wird das Öffnen der Axon-Bus
Greifkomponente sofort unterbrochen und das gesamte Axon-Bus
Prothesensystem abgeschaltet.
8 Rechtliche Hinweise
8.1 Haftung
Der Hersteller haftet, wenn das Produkt gemäß den Beschreibungen und Anweisungen in diesem
Dokument verwendet wird. Für Schäden, die durch Nichtbeachtung dieses Dokuments, insbe
sondere durch unsachgemäße Verwendung oder unerlaubte Veränderung des Produkts verur
sacht werden, haftet der Hersteller nicht.
8.2 Markenzeichen
Alle innerhalb des vorliegenden Dokuments genannten Bezeichnungen unterliegen uneinge
schränkt den Bestimmungen des jeweils gültigen Kennzeichenrechts und den Rechten der jewei

10.3 Axon
Die Bezeichnung „Axon“ steht für Adaptive exchange of neuroplacement data. Der Axon-Bus ist
eine Innovation von Ottobock für den Bereich der Exoprothetik: Ein Datenübertragungssystem,
welches von sicherheitsrelevanten Bus-Systemen aus der Luftfahrt und KFZ-Industrie abgeleitet
wurde. Für den Anwender bedeutet dies mehr Sicherheit und mehr Zuverlässigkeit durch eine im

Vergleich zu herkömmlichen Systemen deutlich reduzierte Empfindlichkeit gegenüber elektroma
gnetischen Störstrahlungen.

2 Product description
2.1 Function
The product serves to provide power to a prosthesis.
The product consists of several components. These components are inseparable and ready for
mounting.
2.2 Components
The product consists of the following components:
Rechargeable battery
The battery (see fig.1, item1) consists of twocells with integrated electronics. The electronics
protect the battery against short circuits, overvoltage, undervoltage and charging outside the
allowable temperature range.
Charging receptacle
The charging receptacle (see fig.1, item2) has the following functions:
• Contact for charging the battery
• LED to indicate the current charge level
• LED for providing feedback on operating states
• Button for turning the prosthesis on and off, checking the charge level and emergency open
ing of the prosthesis
• Beeper for providing feedback on operating states
• Button to activate the Bluetooth function
Communication cable
The communication cable (see fig.1, item3) is used to exchange data and connects the respect
ive prosthetic components to the product.
Connection cable
The connection cable (see fig.1, item4) is used to connect the 13E500 AxonMaster. When the
battery is used in an elbow joint, the forearm cable of the flexion aid (AFB) is connected to this
connection cable.

3 Intended use
3.1 Indications for use
The product is to be used exclusively for exoprosthetic fittings of the upper limbs.
3.2 Conditions of use
The product has been developed for use in everyday activities. It must not be used for activities
where it would be exposed to unallowable environmental conditions or strains (e.g. extreme
sports).
Permissible ambient conditions are described in the technical data (see page16).
3.3 Contraindications
• All conditions which contradict or go beyond the specifications listed in the section on
"Safety" and "Indications for use".
3.4 Qualification
The fitting of a patient with the product may only be carried out by O&P professionals who have
been authorised with the corresponding Ottobock training.

Injury due to unexpected product behaviour as a result of a malfunction.
►The product was developed for everyday use and must not be used for unusual activities.
These unusual activities include, for example, sports with excessive strain and/or shocks to
the wrist joint (pushups, downhill mountain biking, ...) or extreme sports (free climbing,
paragliding, etc.).
►Careful handling of the product and its components not only increases their service life but,
above all, ensures the patient's personal safety!
►If the product and its components have been subjected to extreme loads (e.g. due to a fall,
etc.), then the product must be inspected for damage immediately. If necessary, forward the
product to an authorised Ottobock Service Centre.

Penetration of perspiration into the product
Injury and chemical burns due to leakage of battery fluids.
►Wear protective clothing when removing or replacing the battery (disposable gloves and
protective goggles at a minimum).
►Avoid direct skin contact!

Operating the product near active implanted systems
Interference with active implantable systems (e.g., pacemaker, defibrillator, etc.) due to electro
magnetic interference of the product.
►When operating the product in the immediate vicinity of active implantable systems, ensure
that the minimum distances stipulated by the manufacturer of the implant are observed.
►Make sure to observe any operating conditions and safety instructions stipulated by the man

►The product and any damaged components may only be opened and repaired by authorised,

Charging the product with soiled or damaged contacts

►Make sure that the contacts are always clean and free of grease.
►Clean the electrical contacts of the charging plug and charging receptacle regularly using
cotton swabs and a mild soap solution.
►Take care to avoid damaging the contacts with pointed or sharp objects.

Insufficient distance to HF communication devices (e.g. mobile phones, Bluetooth
devices, WiFi devices)

6 Preparing the product for use
6.1 Assembly
The components are ready for assembly on delivery and cannot be separated.
The product in combination with the component holder can only be assembled in the forearm
socket. The charging receptacle must be glued into the outer socket. The battery is attached in
the outer socket or between the outer and inner socket, depending on the available space. When
little space is available, the battery is laminated into the outer socket.
7 Handling
7.1 Switching the terminal device on and off
NOTICE
Signs of wear and tear on the product components
Injury due to faulty control or malfunction of the product.
►Excessive pressure on the charging receptacle can lead to increased wear and tear on the
button.
►1) Push and hold the charging receptacle button until a confirma
tion sound is heard (at least 1 second).
→The prosthesis and prosthetic components are switched on.
Repeat this process to switch the prosthesis and prosthetic compon
ents off.
7.2 Charging the battery
We recommend charging on a daily basis. If the device is not used for an extended period, the
battery charge level should be checked regularly and the battery recharged.
1) Connect the charging plug to the charging receptacle of the product.
→A correct connection between the battery charger and the product is indicated by feed
back (see page17).
→The prosthesis is switched off automatically.
→The charging process starts.
2) Disconnect the product after the charging process is complete.
7.3 Display of the current charge level
The battery charge level can be queried at any time.
1) With the prosthesis switched on, press the charging receptacle button and hold for less than
one second.
2) The LED display on the charging receptacle provides information on the current battery
charge level (Status signals).
7.4 Safety shutoff
The purpose of the safety shutoff is to protect the product; it is triggered in case of:
• Excessively high or low temperature in the battery's environment during the charging process
• Short circuit
• Overvoltage or undervoltage

7.5 Opening the terminal device in an emergency
This safety function allows the Axon-Bus gripping component to be
opened regardless of the control signals present.
1) With the Axon-Bus prosthetic system switched on, press the char
ging receptacle button and hold for approximately three seconds
until the Axon-Bus gripping component begins to open.
→A pulsating beep sounds as it opens.
2) Releasing the button immediately stops the process of opening
the Axon-Bus gripping component and turns the entire Axon-Bus
prosthetic system off.

The term "Axon" stands for Adaptive eXchange Of Neuroplacement data. The Axon-Bus is an
Ottobock innovation for the field of exoprosthetics: a data transmission system, derived from
safety-related bus systems in the aviation and automobile industries. For the user this means

2 Description du produit
2.1 Fonctionnement
Le produit est destiné à l’alimentation électrique d’une prothèse.
Le produit est constitué de plusieurs composants. Ces composants sont reliés entre eux de ma
nière indivisible et sont prêts à être montés.
2.2 Composants
Le produit est constitué des composants suivants:
Batterie
L’accumulateur (voir ill.1, pos.1) est composé de 2 cellules et d’un système électronique inté
gré. Ce dernier protège l’accumulateur des courts-circuits, des surtensions, des sous-tensions et
d’une charge effectuée dans une plage de températures non autorisée.
Prise de charge
La prise chargeur (voir ill.1, pos.2) dispose des fonctions suivantes:
• Contact pour la charge de l’accumulateur
• DEL d’affichage de l’état de charge actuel
• DEL d’affichage de l’état de fonctionnement
• Bouton permettant d’activer et de désactiver la prothèse, de consulter l’état de charge et
d’ouvrir en urgence la prothèse

Câble de communication
Le câble de communication ( voir ill.1, pos.3) permet d’échanger des données et d’établir la
connexion entre le produit et le composant prothétique correspondant.
Câble de raccordement
Le câble de raccordement ( voir ill.1, pos.4) permet de brancher l’AxonMaster 13E500. Si
l’accumulateur est utilisé dans une articulation de coude, le câble de l’avant-bras de l’aide à la
flexion (AFB) est branché à ce câble de raccordement.
3 Utilisation conforme
3.1 Usage prévu
Le produit est exclusivement destiné à l’appareillage exoprothétique des membres supérieurs.
3.2 Conditions d’utilisation
Le produit est conçu pour une utilisation au cours des activités du quotidien. Il ne doit pas être
utilisé pour des activités au cours desquelles il est soumis à des conditions d’environnement et à
des sollicitations non autorisées (parex. sports extrêmes).
