Safety
Intended Use
The posioner is a laboratory device as dened
by DIN EN 61010-1. It is intended for indoor use
and use in an environment that is free of dirt,
oil, and lubricants.
In accordance with its design, the posioner is
intended for precision posioning and align-
ment of a mirror in two orthogonal axes with
a common center of rotaon (parallel kinema-
cs). Some models provide addional vercal
moon. The posioner is not intended for
applicaons in areas, in which a failure would
present severe risks to human beings or the
environment.
The intended use of the posioner is only pos-
sible when completely installed and connected,
and in conjuncon with suitable electronics.
The posioner may only be installed, operated,
maintained, and cleaned by authorized and
appropriately qualied personnel.
General Safety Instrucons
The posioner is built according to state-of-
the-art technology and recognized safety
standards. Improper use of the posioner may
result in personal injury and/or damage to the
posioner. The operator is responsible for cor-
rect installaon and operaon of the posioner.
XOnly use the posioner for its intended
purpose, and only use it if it is in perfect
condion.
XRead the user manual.
XImmediately eliminate any faults and mal-
funcons that are likely to aect safety.
The posioner is maintenance-free and achie-
ves its posioning accuracy as a result of the
opmum alignment of mechanical components
and piezo actuators. Loosened screws cause a
loss in posioning accuracy.
XOnly loosen screws according to the in-
strucons in the manual.
XDo not open the posioner.
Installaon
Temperature changes and compressive stress
can induce charges in the posioner. Aer
disconnecon from the electronics, the piezo
actuators can remain charged for several hours.
Touching charged parts can result in minor
injuries from electric shock.
XDo not touch the contacts in the connector.
XBefore mounng, connect the posioner
to the switched-o electronics for a few
seconds to discharge it.
XIf possible: Secure the connectors with
screws against being pulled out.
XDo not pull connectors out of the electro-
nics during operaon.
XIf the connecng cable is accidentally pul-
led out of the posioner during operaon:
Switch o the electronics before you recon-
nect the posioner.
Mechanical forces can damage or misalign the
posioner.
XAvoid shocks and drops.
XObserve the maximum permissible forces
and torques (see manual).
XIf a mirror holder is to be used: Clamp the
mirror holder above the exure only.
XDo not allow adhesive to get into the
posioner.
XOnly ship the posioner in the original
packaging.
If the posioner is vacuum-compable, aen-
on must be paid to cleanliness.
XOnly touch the posioner with powder-free
gloves.
XIf necessary: Wipe the posioner to clean it.
Incorrectly ed screws can cause damage.
XSelect the screw length according to the
depth of the mounng holes.
XS-325 only: Do not use the holes in the
moon plaorm.
Unsuitable mounng can warp the posioner
and reduce the accuracy.
XMount the posioner on an even surface
with similar thermal expansion properes
(for recommended atness, see manual).
