Polycom VVX 201 User Guide

Getting Started
Packaging Contents
Phone Views
A working internet connection isneeded to use your phone.
1. Take yourphone’s components indicated above out of your phonepackage.
2. Follow the instructionsbelow based on yournetwork’s requirements.
a. Phones with Power Supply
i. Connect the power adapter to the DC port.
ii.Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the LAN port on yourphone and the other end of the cable to the Internet port.
iii.Plug the handset cord into the handset port on yourphone and into the handset.
iv.Plug the power cord of the power adapter into apower outlet.
b. Phones with Power over Ethernet (PoE)
i. Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the LAN port on yourphone and the other end of the cable to the Internet port.
ii.Plug the handset cord into the handset port on yourphone and into the handset.
3. Once yourphoneis connected to power and yournetwork, itwill automatically reboot and will be ready to use after 3 minutes.
Setting Up Your Phone
Your phone has three main views: Home, Lines, and Callsview. You can access Home and Lines View at any time.
For Home view from any menu,press .
Press to alternate between Home and Lines view.

Home View
Entering Data
1. Use the dialpad keys to enter information. To backspace, press Backspace.
2. To typewith dialpad keys, press a key repeatedly to view the character options and stop to select.
3. To typeother characters, press Encoding.When using the dialpad keys, use the 1,*,0, and # keys.
About Calls
Only one call can be active at one time.
You can use the handset, speakerphone, or headset for calls. During a call,you can change modes by picking up the handset,
or by pressing or.
Home View displays icons you can select to access phonefunctions. You can use the right, left, up, and down arrowskeys to display more
icons.
Lines View
Lines View displays phone Lines, Favorites, and Keys. If your phoneisidle, you can press the Linekey to access the Dialer.
Calls View
If yourphone has one or more calls, you can access Calls View.
Placing Calls
1. Pick up the handset, orpress or.
2. Enter the phone number, and press Send.
3. Ordooneof the following:
• Enter the phonenumber first, then press Dial, and pick up the handset, orpress .
• From Lines view, press the Linekey, enter the phone number, and select Send.
• From Home view, select New Call, enter the phonenumber, and press Send.
Timesaver: Placing Calls Quickly
Select a recent call or Favorite, or select a contact’s phone number in the Contact Directory.

Forward All Calls
1. Select Forward on the home screen and choose Always, NoAnswer, or Busyand enter the contact’s number and select Enable.
If you choose No Answer, enter the number of ringsbefore the call isforwarded.
2. To disable call forwarding, select Forwardon the home oridle screen. Select the forwarding type to disable and press Disable.

2. Or do one of the following:
•To answer a call using the handset, pick up the handset.
•To answer a call with the speakerphone, press .
•To answer a call using aheadset, press .
•To answer a new call while on an active call,press Answer. The current call will beheld.
Answering Calls
1. Replace the handset in the cradle
2. Or do one of the following:
• To end an active call, replace the handset in the cradle, press or,orpress End Call.
• To end aheld call,highlight the held call.Press Resume and then press End Call.
Ending Calls
1. To hold a call,highlight the call and press Hold.
2. To resume a held call,press Resume.
Holding Calls
1. Press orhold Transfer and call the other party.
2. Press Blindto complete the transfer without announcing the transfer to the second party.
Transferring Calls
1. To forward an incoming call,press Forwardon the incoming call screen and enter the contact’s number.
2. Then press Forward.

View your Favorites list
1. From Home view, press and select Directories > Favorites.
Favorite a Contact
1. Navigate to yourContact Directory and select the contact. Enter a number between 1 and 99 in the Favorite Index field.
Dial a Favorite
1. Press the Favorite from Home or Lines view or from your Favorites list.
View your Directory
1. From the Home screen, select Dirs > Contact Directory.
Add a Contact
1. Navigate to your Contact Directory and press Add.
2. Enter the contact’s information and press Save.
1. Call the first party and after the call connects, press Conference.
2. Call your second contact and after your contact answers, press Conferenceagain.
3. Select Holdto hold all participants.
Placing Conference Calls
Favorites are contacts you call most often. Your favorites list displays all your Favorites. A smaller number of Favorites displays in Lines view.
Favorites
You can view recent, placed, received, and missed calls.
1. Select Dirs > Recent Calls.
Viewing Recent Calls
You can view and add contacts to the Contact Directory.

Listening to Voicemail
View your Favorites list
1. Navigate to yourContact Directory and select the contact.
2. Press Info,press Edit, and update the contact’s information.
3. Press Save.
Delete a Contact
1. Navigate to yourContact Directory and select the contact.
2. Press Info,press Delete, and press Yes to confirm.
Search for a Contact
1. Navigate to yourContact Directory and press Search.
2. Enter search criteria and press Search.
Dial a Contact from your Directory
1. Navigate to yourContact Directory and select the contact.
2. From the contact’s information screen, select the contact’s phonenumber.
1. During a call,press so the other parties can’thear you.
2. To disableMute, press .
Muting the Microphone
1. To change the call volume, press during a call.
2. To change the ringer volume, press when the phoneisidleor ringing.
Adjusting Volume

1. To set a ringtoneforincoming calls, select Settings > Basic > Ring Typeand select a ringtone.
2. To set a ringtonefor a contact, navigate to yourContact Directory and select a contact.
3. Press Edit, choose a ringtone, and select Save.
