6 Aclickshouldbeheardeverytimeacorrectcodeisenteredastheleverhandleisturned.
Bothleverhandlesonthekeypadandinsidehandleshouldreturneasilyundertheirownspringpressure.

4 Determining the hand of the door
Thehandofthedoorisdeterminedwiththedoorinitsclosedpositionfromtheexteriororkeypadsideof
the door, as shown in the diagram below
A)Righthanddoor–dooropens

3 Before you start…
Insert4mmAllenkeyintolatchhead.
Loosenscrew.
Removelatchfromlockcaseandrotate
180degreesandinsertbackintocase.
Tighten screw in latch head using allen key.

template.
Chisel out remaining timber between drill
holes.Removedebris.Insertlatchinto
mortice. Ensure latch is orientated so snib
is below the latch.
Drawaroundfaceplate.Removelatchand
chiseloutmarkedareatoadepthof4.5mm.
Tape drill guide to side face of door using
ttingheightdatumforposition.Drillthrough
holes on side of door as per marked locations.
Ensure drill is kept at right angle to door face
at all times during drilling.
Insert latch into mortice and place faceplate
overthetop.Markholesforxings&
pilot drill. Securefaceplatewithxingssupplied.

Locatethetransitscrewinthesideofthe
latchwhichwillbevisiblethroughthedoor
preparation.

8 Assembling the keypad
Pickthekeypad,shield,backplateandkey
padxingpackoutofthebox.
Take shield and place keypad face down
intotheapertureensuringtheleverfollower
is aligned with the hole in the shield.
If you wish to change the factory code set
forcodeGUARD,pleaseseethe‘howto
changeyourcodenumber’section.
Placethebackplateatontopoftheshield
ensuringthefollowerisvisblethroughthe
circular cut out.
Securebackplatetoshieldwiththe
8machinescrewssupplied.Ensurethatthe
screwssitushwiththefaceoftheback
plate.
Installhexsupportpostsintothetopand
bottom of the key pad for stability. Ensure
these are screwed all the way to the surface.
9 Removing the transit pin from the latch
STOP!
Undoscrewandremovefromlatchthrough
side of door preparation.
Ballbearingcavitywillnowbeexposedon
the side of the latch ready to insert security
pin.

10 Fitting the keypad (external face of door)
Pushthelatchfullyintothecasetoexpose
theballbearingcavityonthesideofthe
latch.
Whilst still holding the security pin in place,
carefully replace thumb with metal rule and
hold against surface of the door.
Take the assembled keypad and locate on
the door face. Ensure the metal rule and
security pin is kept in place.
Oncekeypadisrmlypushedagainstdoor,
carefully slide metal rule away allowing the
security pin to engage with the back plate.
Whilst still holding the keypad in place,
securewiththeM6buttonheadbolt
throughxingsandwashers.Select
appropriatexingstosuitdoorthickness.
Ie40mmfor44/45mmdoor.
Insert the spindle through the lock and into
the follower of the keypad. Ensure that the
flatendofthespindleispositioned
at‘5past 7’frominternalsideofdoor.

Selectthesecuritypinrequiredforthedoor
thickness.

11 Fitting the backplate (internal face of door)
Offer up the backplate to the internal door
face. Ensure spindle is located in follower
of backplate.
LocateM4CSKmachinescrewsthrough
top and bottom of body of backplate and
intothehexsupportposts.Tightenupfully.
Applyhandlewashersoverhandlespindles
tointernalandexternalsidesofthepush
button lock.
Fixhandlepointingawayfromedgeofthe
door. Insert grub screw and secure with
allen key supplied. Test the operation of the
handle. If the handle does not return under
its own spring pressure, loosen the grub
screw by ¼ of a turn until it springs back.
Repeat for other side of the door.
Oncehandlesaresecurelytted,push
rubbergrommetsovergrubscrews.

14 How to Change Your Code Number
Itisadvisedthatyou’renewcodeshouldbebetween4and8digitsincludinga
combinationofsingleanddoublepressnumbersformaximumsecurity.
Please note:Thekeypadhasadoublebuttonpressfunctionandyouareabletousethesamedigittwice.
Whentheunitisbeingcoded,ifthegreenmarkerofthecodingdiscisinalignmentwiththecentrelinearrowonthecoverplateit
denotes that the button is set as a double press.
If the red marker of the coding disc is in alignment with the centre line arrow it is set for a single press and if blue marker of the
coding disc is in alignment with the centre line arrow it is not part of the code.
Thecodingchamberisnon-sequentialsothecodecanbeenteredinanyorder.Ifforinstancetheunitwascodedto11234,
theunitcanbeopenedbyentering11432,43211,12314etc...
1 Tochangethecode,theunitwillneedtoberemovedfromthedoorordonepriortotting.WARNING-Pleasebecarefulwhen
 removingthecodeGUARDshield,thesecuritypinbehindtheshieldissprungloaded.Thepinmustberetainedandre-inserted
 whenre-ttingtheshieldtothedoor.See‘Fittingthekeypad’sectionfordetails.
2 Turnthekeypadoverandremovetheshieldandbackplate(iftted)sothatthebackofthecodingchamberisvisible.
 Theinternalleverissecuredtothekeypadby2xhexsupportpostsandretainingscrews.Turntheleverhandleofthekeypadto
ensure that the coding chamber is reset before a new code is to be programmed.
3 With the coding chamber reset you will see that the coding discs are set to what the keypad is currently coded to.
 Ifforinstancetheunitiscodedto11234;thenumber1discwillhavethegreenmarkerofthecodingdisclinedupwiththe
 centrelinearrowonthecoverplate(as per fig.1).
 Thenumber2,3and4willhavetheredmarkerofthecodingdiscslinedupwiththecentrelinearrow.
 Alltheothercodingdiscswillhavethebluelineinalignmentwiththecentrelinearrow.
4  Chooseyournewoperatingcode.Tochangehowabuttonissetinthecode–insertthecodechangetool(as per fig.2)into
 thesmallholeinthetopoftheinnergearandthisallowsthistobeliftedupwards,thiswillexposearedlineontheinnergear
(as per fig.2).

5  Whilstholdingtheinnergearthecodingdisccanberotatedusingyournger.
 Ifyouhavechosenthenumberinthecodeasasinglepress,aligntheredmarkerofthecodingdiscwithredlineoftheinnertab
(as per fig.3).
 Ifyouhavechosenthenumberasadoublepressalignthegreenmarkerofthecodingdiscwiththeredlineoftheinnergear
(as per fig.4)
If you do not want to include the number in the code align the blue line of the coding disc with the red line of the
 innergear(as per fig.5).
6With the selected marker in position the inner gear can be released and it should drop back into position. The inner gear and tab
 shouldnolongerbevisible.
 Iftheinnergearisstillexposedafterreleasingthepressure,rotatethecodingdiscwithyourngertotheleftuntiltheinnergear
drops into position.
7  Oncetherstdigithasbeenset,theprincipleisthesameforanyotherbuttonthatyouwanttosetinthecode.
 Onceyouhaveprogrammedalltherequirednumbersinyournewcode,turnthehandletoresetthecodingchamber.Ensure
 thatallthenumbersthatareinthecodehavethecolouredmarkersalignedwiththecentrelinearrowonthekeypadcoverplate.
 Makesurethatanydigitthatisnotinthecodehasthebluemarkerofthecodingdiscalignedwiththecentrelinearrow.
8 Whenthenewcodehasbeenset,checkthatthecodeisworkingcorrectly.Enterthecodeandoperatethelever,youwillseethe
spindle follower rotate on the back of the keypad.
 Itisadvisedtotest2-3timesbeforettingontothedoor.
Please ensure that the new code is recorded and is in possession of the end user.

16 Operating the unit
Beforeenteringacodeturnthehandletoensurethecodingchamberisclearofany
buttonsthatmayhavebeenpressed.
Enter the code and turn the handle, the latch bolt will disengage and the door will open.
After the handle is operated the unit will reset and the code will need to be entered again
in order to open the door.

Problem Cause Solution
Thekeypadleverturnsafterenteringa
correct code but does not retract the latch.
The spindle is too short or has been cut
down too short.
PleasecalltheUNIONhelplineon
([phone] for a replacement.
Thekeypadleverhandleslipswhen
withdrawing the latch.
The spindle may not be going into
the back of the keypad straight and is
restrictingitsmovement.
Ensure that the spindle is going into the
back of the keypad straight. If the problem
persists please call the UNION helpline.
Theleversarestifftoturnfromeitherside
of the door.
Ensure that no material is affecting the
rotation of the spindle followers and that
thespindleisnotcatchingonthecut-outin
the door.
If there is no material restricting the
rotation, To help reduce handle pressure
loosen the grub screw securing the handle
by¼turn.Repeatifrequired.
Problem Cause Solution
Thekeypadleverturnsfreelyafterentering
the code.
The unit has been incorrectly coded. Pleasereferto‘howtochangeyourcode
number’instructions.
The latch bolt is not securing when the door
is closed.
Thestrikeplate/keepsmaynotbeadjusted
correctlyorthedoormayhaveswollenor
twisted if in direct sunlight.
Checkthatthereisa3-5mmdoorgap
between the lock and strike.
Youcanalsoadjustthestrikeplate/keeps
inaccordancewiththemanufacturer’s
recommendations.
Theinsidehandleorkeypadleverdoes
not return to the horizontal position after
operation.
The grub screw has been done up too
tightly or the handle return spring has
broken.
Loosenthegrubscrewby1/4ofaturnuntil
it springs back. If after loosening the grub
screwtheproblempersists,Pleasecallthe
UNION helpline for assistance.

Nomaintenanceoftheinternalpartsshouldbenecessary.Ifthelockisbeingusedonanexteriorapplicationitisadvisableto
periodicallyremovethekeypadandgivethecodingchamberalightspraywithaPTFEbasedlubricatingspray.
Do not use oil as a lubricant as it will cause excessive wear to the internal parts.
