Drive Folding Height-Adjustable Quad Cane User manual

SURFACE TIPS
This quad cane is not suitable for use on sloping
or uneven surfaces.
Take particular care on these surfaces.
1. Unfold cane section (A), loosen the locking collar and insert the upper shaft into the handle,
until the snap button locates in the hole.
2. Tighten the locking collar by turning it clockwise.
3. Loosen the locking collar on the height-adjustable shaft (B). Press in the snap buttons and
insert the upper shaft until one of the snap buttons locates into the hole, at the required height.
4. Tighten the locking collar by turning it clockwise.
5. Unscrew the thumb screw (E) and washer (D) from the bottom of the shaft.
6. Insert the shaft (B) into the hole in the base (C), ensuring that the slot in the shaft locates
correctly.
7. Tighten the screw and then push down the lever firmly, ensuring that the assembly is tight and
secure.
8. Slide the black collar down the shaft, onto the base.

and left handed users.
Ensure the orientation of the
handle and base are set up
correctly for the user. The
most splayed-out legs
should be furthest away
from the user’s feet while
walking.

Intended Purpose:
This quad cane is a walking aid to assist those who have reduced mobility.
Safety Precautions:
• Consult a healthcare professional before using any assisted mobility device.
• Not to be used by persons heavier than 136kg (21st)
• Not intended to support the full weight of the user.
• Not intended for use on ice or other slippery surfaces as it has the potential to slip.
• Do not use unless individual segments are joined together securely, and the push button is fully engaged.
• When assembling individual segments, keep fingers away to avoid being pinched.
• Do not stretch theinternal elastic cord more than necessary to assemble or disassemble the segments.Do not
use the quad cane if the elastic cord is cut, frayed, or damaged.
• Do not use the quad cane on sloping or uneven surfaces, as the quad cane may fall sideways when
weight is applied to the handle.
• If the handle or tip becomes loose, or if the cane becomes damaged, stop using the cane immediately.

To fold down the handle for storage:
1. Loosen the upper locking collar by turning it anticlockwise.
2. Press in the upper push button and pull the handle section away from the main shaft.
3. Fold the handle section down.
To reduce the cane storage size even further:
4. Loosen the lower locking collar and press in the lower snap button.
5. Push the shaft down as low as it will go.
HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT
1. Turn the lower locking collar anticlockwise to loosen.
2. Press in the lower snap button.
3. Slide the shaft up or down until the snap button protrudes through
an adjustment hole. Note: An audible ‘click’ will be heard when the
snap button securely protrudes through the adjustment hole.
4. Repeat steps 2-3 until the cane is at the required height.
5. Tighten the locking collar by turning clockwise.
To allow the quad cane to be set to the proper height, ensure that the
shoe height is the same style worn most frequently when using the
quad cane.
a) Stand as upright as possible on a firm, flat surface and let your
arm hang naturally by your side.
b) Adjust the height of the cane so that the top portion of the
handle touches the inside of the wrist, where it meets the palm.
To change the cane from right to left-handed use:
1. Loosen the lower locking collar.
2. Press in the lower snap button and rotate the shaft extension
through 180°, until a snap button locates into the
adjustment hole.
3. Tighten the locking collar.
• Check that the handle, base and all tips are secure.
• Ensure the snap buttons fully engage in the adjustment holes.
• Periodically check the wrist strap to ensure that it is secure.
• Check the elastic cord regularly. Do not use the quad cane if the cord is cut, frayed, or damaged.
• Replace the tips every six months. Contact Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare Ltd to purchase new tips.
• Clean the cane occasionally using water and a mild detergent.
