Designated use
The CPA valve terminals described in this manual are in
tended for fitting into a machine or automated system. It is
absolutely necessary to observe the safety instructions in this
manual as well as the designated use of the relevant CPA
valve terminal. CPA valve terminals may only be used as fol
lows:
asintended in industrial installations
 without any modifications by the user
Only those conversions or modifications which are de
scribed in the information supplied with the product are
permitted.
infaultless technical condition.
When used together with commercially available compo
nents, such as actuators, the specified limits for pressures,
temperatures, electrical data, torques etc. must be observed.
National and local safety regulations must also be observed.

This manual is directed exclusively at technicians trained in
control and automation technology.

Term Meaning
I/O Input/output modules
Electric sub−base Sub−base with multipin, CP or AS−interface connection
Electrical bridge conducts the supply voltage from the sub−base to the solenoid coils on CPA
valve terminals with MP, CP or AS−interface connection.
End plate Extreme left and right−hand end plates of the CPA valve terminal with con
nections for supplying the valves with compressed air and for conducting
the exhaust air, as well as for connecting silencers.
Manual override Manual override
Components Common term for pneumatic sub−bases, valve plates, additional pressure
supply plates, blanking plates, end plates, CPX adapters, electric sub−bases
(with IC, MP, CP or AS−interface connection), electric manifolds, sub−bases,
end plate covers, silencers.
Pin−type Plug connector (with/without inner thread) for connecting the supply lines
to the CPA valve terminal

Pneumatic manifold sub−base for valve plates, with work connections 2 and 4
and open or closed compressed air channel 1.
Pneumatic interface The pneumatic interface is the interface between the modular
electric peripherals of the CPX terminal and the CPA pneumatics.
Blanking plate Plate without valve function, for reserving valve locations.
Valve plate Plate with single−solenoid, double−solenoid or mid−position valve
Manifold sub−base Sub−base for electrically linking the valve solenoid coils with the elec
tricsub−base or the CPX pneumatic interface.
Tubing Connecting the supply lines (tubing) to the CPA valve terminal
Additional pressure
supply plate
Plate for supplying pressure zones which lie in the centre of the CPA valve
terminal. In this plate, the compressed air is diverted from work connection
2 so that the relevant valve plates can be supplied with compressed air. The
exhaust air can also be expelled via connection 4.

1.1 Overview of variants
Festo assists you in solving your automation task at the ma
chine level with CPA valve terminals. The modular structure of
the CPA valve terminal for the CP system enables you to
adapt the CPA valve terminals optimally to your machine or
system.
Due to their compact design, the CPA valve terminals can be
fitted close to the actuators to be controlled. This enables
short compressed air tubing to be used. System losses will
therefore be minimized and the times required for pressuriz
ing and exhausting the compressed air tubing will be redu
ced. This is made possible by the use of very compact valves
with sufficient flow, thereby helping to reduce costs.
CPA valve terminal with

This CPA valve terminal is available with 2 to max. 22 single−
solenoid valve locations or max. 11 double−solenoid valve
locations. Maximum 22 valve coils can be controlled.
