Intended use
The MPA−F valve terminals described in this manual are
intended for installation into a machine or automated system.
The user must at all times observe the safety regulations
specified in this manual as well as the instructions concerning
the designated use of the relevant MPA−F valve terminal. The
MPA−F valve terminals may only be used as follows:
asintended in an industrial environment
inoriginal condition without unauthorised modifications.
Only the conversions or modifications described in the
documentation accompanying the product are permitted.
Inperfect technical condition.
When connected to conventional accessory components,
such as actuators, the specified limits for pressures,
temperatures, electrical data, torques etc. must be observed.
Observe the regulations of the workers’ compensation
associations, the German Technical Control Board (TÜV), the
VDE regulations or relevant national regulations.
Range of application and certifications
The product fulfils the requirements of the EU directives and
is marked with the CE certification.
Standards and test values, which the product must comply
with and fulfil, can be found in the section Technical data".
The product−relevant EU directives can be found in the decla
ration of conformity.

This manual contains specific information on mounting,
installing, commissioning, servicing and converting the MPA−F
valve terminal. It describes only the pneumatic components
and refers to the valve terminal alternative connections listed
in the table below.

The MPA−F valve terminal consists of pneumatic and electric
components. The most important components are shown in
the following Fig.

Blanking plate Plate without valve function for covering unused valve positions on
manifold blocks.

Exhaust plate Plate for ducted exhaust air with a common exhaust port (3/5) or sepa
rate exhaust ports (3) and (5).
I/O Input/output modules
Manifold block Plate for mounting monostable, bistable or mid−position valves, with
working lines (2) and (4).

MO Manual override

MPA−F valve terminal with
multi−pin plug connection
Type MPAF...−MPM−...:
Variant of the MPA−F valve terminal with a sub−D plug used to centrally
connect all valve solenoid coils. The electrical interlinking is modular,
i.e. every manifold block has its own circuit board.
Multi−pin plug connection Connection with electrical interlinking module type MPAF...−MPM−..
Pneumatic interface The pneumatic interface is the interface between the modular
electrical periphery of the CPX terminal and the MPA−F pneumatics.
Pneumatic module Module consisting of pneumatic manifold block, electronics module,
valves or blanking plates, possibly with vertical stacking components
Pneumatic supply plate Plate for additional supply of compressed air to the valves, e.g. for
several pressure zones.
Selector end plate Right−hand end plate of the MPA−F valve terminal with pilot air ports
(12/14) and (82/84). The selector end plate has a coding cap. The
setting of the coding cap defines whether the valve terminal is opera
ted using an internal or external pilot air supply.
Separating seal Special seal for creating pressure zones.
Tubing connection Connecting the supply lines (tubing) to the MPA−F valve terminal
Valve Monostable, bistable and mid−position valves
Valve terminal MPA−F (Type 33) valve terminal with multi−pin plug connection or CPX
terminal

description for your CPX terminal, table Descriptions of the

1. Summary of components

1.1 The MPA−F valve terminal
Festo supports your machine table automation tasks with the
MPA−F valve terminal. The modular design of this valve
terminal allows you to optimally customize the valve terminal
to suit your machine or system.
The pneumatic valve terminal provides the following
connections:
 Common channels for supply and exhaust air
 Electric signals for all solenoid coils
Working lines (2) and (4) are provided for each valve position
on the individual pneumatic modules. The valves are supplied
with compressed air (operating pressure and pilot pressure)
via the common channels and connections in the basic
components. The exhaust air (from the valves or pilot control)
is also exhausted via these common channels. Further
components for pressure supply are also available, e.g. in
order to supply pressure zones.
The valve terminal is fitted with current reduction. The
nominal current of the solenoid coils is reduced after the
high−current phase (switching operation). The current
reduction offers the following advantages:
 The valve terminal has a lower energy consumption
 The power supply unit for the voltage supply to the valve
terminal can be designed more economically depending
on the application
 The solenoid coils have less power loss and produce less
waste heat
