Designated use
The CPV-SC valve terminal described in this documentation is
intended exclusively for controlling pneumatic actuators.
It may only be used as follows in conjunction with devices
and components recommended or approved of by Festo:
– as intended in industrial installations.
– in orignal condition without any modifications by the user
Only the conversions or modifications described in the
documentation supplied with the product are permitted.
– in faultless technical condition.
The maximum values specified for pressures, temperatures,
electrical data, torques, etc. must not be exceeded.
Observe also the standards specified in the relevant chapters,
as well as national and local laws and technical regulations.

Areas of application and official certifications
Certain configurations of the product are certified by Under-
writers Laboratories Inc. (UL) as ”UL Recognized Component”
for the USA and Canada. These configurations are marked as
follows:
Only for connection to a NEC Class 2 supply.

Please note
Observe the following if the UL requirements are to be
complied with in your application:
– Rules for observing the UL certification can be found in
the separate UL-specific documentation. The relevant

control and automation technology who have experience in
fitting, installing, commissioning, servicing and converting
pneumatic components.

Valve terminal variant with field bus direct connection. This CPV-SC
can be connected directly to the appropriate field bus, e.g.

Electrical sub-base Plate with electrical MP or DI connection
End plate Termination plate at the left and right-hand ends of the CPV-SC valve
terminal with channels or connections for supplying the valves with
compressed air and for removing the exhaust air.
IC connection Individual connector, individual electric connection. Variant on which
each solenoid coil is connected electrically individually.
Manual override Manual override
MP connection
(multipin connection)
Valve terminal variant with 15-pin ub-D plug or connection for ribbon
cable. All valve solenoid coils are centrally connected via this
connection.

1.1 Overview of the CPV-SC valve terminal
Festo assists you in solving your automation task at the
machine level with valve terminals.
Due to their compact design, the CPV-SC valve terminals can
be fitted close to the actuators to be controlled. This enables
short compressed air tubing to be used. System losses will
therefore be minimized and the times required for pressuriz-
ing and exhausting the compressed air tubing will be redu-
ced. This is made possible by the use of very compact valves
with sufficient flow, thereby helping to reduce costs.
The valve terminal pneumatics provide the following:
– common channels for supply and exhaust air
– electric signals of all valve solenoid coils.
Work connections 2 and 4 are provided on the valve plates.
The valves are supplied with compressed air via the common
channels in the valve terminal and connections in the end
plates. The exhaust air (from the valves or pilot control) is
also vented via these connections. Further components are
also available as extras, e.g. for forming pressure zones or for
supplying the valve terminal with additional compressed air.

1.2 Description of variants
The CPV-SC is available with the following electrical connnec-
tion variants:
CPV-SC variant Remarks
CPV-SC with IC connection:
This valve terminal type CPV-SC is available with
2; 3; ... 16 valve plates. The valve solenoid coils
are connected electrically individually in a hori-
zontal or vertical direction.
CPV-SC with MP connection:
This valve terminal CPV-SC is available with 4; 5;
... 16 valve sub-bases. The electrical connection
of the solenoid coils is made centrally via the
multi-pin connector. The multi-pin connector is
available in the following designs:
– Sub-D, 15-pin
– Sub-D, 26-pin (high density)
– for ribbon cable, 20-pin
CPV-SC with DI-connection “DeviceNet”:
This valve terminal CPV-SC is available with 4; 5;
... 16 valve sub-bases. The CPV-SC always occu-
pies 16 addresses, independent of the number of
valves.

1.3 Description of components
Identification code With identification code (I.C.) you can ascertain the equip-
ment fitted on your CPV-SC valve terminal. The code is
printed on the front below the manual overrides.
I.C. Pneumatic components
Valve plates
M5/2-way valve, single-solenoid
J5/2-way valve, bistable. This valve consists of two valve plates and therefore occupies two
valve positions. The “control valve” is marked with j 12; the “work valve” with Ident. code J.
N3/2-way valves, single-solenoid, basic position open
K3/2-way valves, single-solenoid, basic position closed
D2/2-way valves, single-solenoid, basic position closed
Separator plate additional pressure supply
TCompressed air channel (1) blocked
SCompressed air channel (1) and exhaust channel (3/5) blocked
