2.2 Konstruktion und Funktion
Das E-MAG Active ist ein standphasengesteuertes Orthesenkniegelenk, das Ihnen das freie Durchschwingen in
der Schwungphase ermöglicht und vor Fersenauftritt das Orthesenkniegelenk für die Standphase sperrt. Das Or
thesenkniegelenk ermittelt, mit Hilfe der Elektronik, die Position Ihres Beins und schaltet für die Schwungphase
frei. Lesen Sie dazu den „Quick Start“ 646D1043.
Beim E-MAG Active handelt es sich um ein Orthesenkniegelenk mit verdeckter Sperrmechanik, das heißt, das Ge
lenk verschmutzt weniger und verhindert gleichzeitig, dass sich Kleidung verklemmt. Das schont nicht nur Ihre
Kleidung, sondern bietet Ihnen vor allem mehr Sicherheit.
Das E-MAG Active hat eine zusätzliche Sperrfunktion (PreLock), die bei 15° Kniebeugung aktiviert wird. Damit ist
das Orthesenkniegelenk gesichert bevor die Schwungphase beendet ist. Das Orthesenkniegelenk wird dann beim
Erreichen des Extensionsanschlags vollständig gesperrt.
Mit zwei Tastern können Sie das Orthesenkniegelenk elektronisch entriegeln (einmalig) oder verriegeln (dauer
haft). Zudem ermöglicht Ihnen die mechanische Entriegelung (temporär) einen erweiterten Einsatzbereich z.B.
beim Fahrradfahren. Diese Gebrauchsanweisung beschreibt Ihnen die Funktionen und Bedienung des E-MAG Ac
tive, wie Sie es aufladen können und pflegen sollten.

3.1 Verwendungszweck
Das Produkt ist ausschließlich für die orthetische Versorgung der unteren Extremität einzusetzen.
3.2 Einsatzbedingungen
Das Produkt wurde für Alltagsaktivitäten entwickelt und darf nicht für außergewöhnliche Tätigkeiten eingesetzt wer
den. Diese außergewöhnlichen Tätigkeiten umfassen z.B. Extremsportarten (Freiklettern, Fallschirmspringen, Pa
ragleiten, etc.), sportlichen Aktivitäten mit Sprüngen, plötzlichen Bewegungen oder schnellen Schrittfolgen (z. B.
Basketball, Badminton, sportliches Reiten).
Mögliche, sportliche Aktivitäten müssen mit dem Orthopädie-Techniker besprochen werden.
Das Produkt ist ausschließlich für die Verwendung an einem Anwender vorgesehen. Der Gebrauch des Produkts
an einer weiteren Person ist von Seiten des Herstellers nicht zulässig.

Gelenksperre niemals fetten.

Feste Teilchen und Flüssigkeit im Gelenk, der Sperre oder in der Elektronik des E-MAG Active können Störungen
verursachen. Setzen Sie die Bauteile keinem intensiven Rauch oder Staub und keinen mechanischen Vibrationen
oder Stößen aus.
5 Gebrauchsfähigkeit herstellen
INFORMATION
Das E-MAG Active kann nur mit dem dafür vorgesehenen Akku 317B20 betrieben werden. Er wurde speziell für
das E-MAG Active entwickelt und sowohl Einlegerahmen als auch Raster sind auf die Form dieses Akkus abge
stimmt.

In diesem Kapitel erfahren Sie, wie Sie das E-MAG Active aktivieren/deaktivieren, aus dem Energiesparmodus re
aktivieren, wie das elektronische System startet und welche Signale bei der Inbetriebnahme vom System gemeldet
werden.
5.1 Akku laden
INFORMATION
Das E-MAG Active kann nach dem Aufladen mit einer Akkuladung für rund 5.000 Schritte genutzt werden. Trotz
dem empfiehlt es sich, den Akku täglich (am besten nachts) aufzuladen.

5.2 E-MAG Active aktivieren/deaktivieren

►Verwenden Sie das Produkt bei fehlenden Signalen nicht weiter und lassen Sie es durch autorisiertes Fach
personal kontrollieren.
INFORMATION
Wird das Orthesenkniegelenk mehr als eine Stunde nicht entsperrt, schaltet die Elektronik automatisch in den
Stand-by-Modus. Eine Reaktivierung des Systems erfolgt durch die einfache Betätigung des oberen Druckknop
fes der Steuerungselektronik.
Das Aktivieren erfolgt durch Einlegen des Akkus in den Einlegerahmen. Wann immer Sie das E-MAG Active akti
vieren, führt die Steuerungselektronik einen kurzen Selbsttest durch, den Sie anhand dieser Signale verfolgen kön
nen:

Bei fehlenden Signalen entnehmen Sie den Akku und legen Sie ihn erneut ein. Bleiben die Signale aus liegt eine
Störung vor.
Befindet sich das E-MAG Active in gebeugtem Zustand, ertönt als Warnsignal die Ton-Pause-Ton-Serie, bis das E-
MAG Active gestreckt/gesperrt wird. Das Deaktivieren erfolgt durch Entnahme des Akkus.
6 Gebrauch
In diesem Kapitel lesen Sie, wie Sie die Steuerung des Kniegelenks per Druckknopf bedienen und mit welchen
Warnungen das Rückmeldesystem des E-MAG Active Sie über Störungen informiert.
6.1 Steuerung Gebrauch Elektronik 17B203

►Betätigen Sie die einmalige Entriegelung oder die dauerhafte Verriegelung nur im sicheren Stand.
Die Steuerungselektronik misst die Position der Orthese während des Gehens. Sie öffnet das Orthesenkniegelenk
vor Zehenablösung und sperrt es vor Fersenauftritt, am Ende der Schwungphase, so dass ein sicherer Auftritt ge
währleistet wird. Der Orthopädietechniker hat bei der ersten Anprobe die elektronische Steuerung des E-MAG Ac
tive an Ihre Bedürfnisse angepasst. Um Ihnen die volle Kontrolle über das E-MAG Active zu geben, stehen Ihnen
zwei manuelle Schaltmöglichkeiten zur Verfügung (siehe Abb.3):

6.1.1 Elektronische Verriegelung (dauerhaft)
Mit dem oberen Druckknopf zur Sperrung des Orthesenkniegelenks können Sie bei einem Gefühl der Unsicherheit
das Gelenk jederzeit sperren. Dies kann z.B. beim Laufen auf Schrägen der Fall sein oder wenn Sie eine längere
Zeit stehen möchten, ohne sich auf die elektronische Steuerung zu konzentrieren. Dazu drücken Sie zweimal kurz
hintereinander auf den oberen Druckknopf (wie beim Doppel-Mausklick). Diese Funktion wird durch ein Tonsignal
bestätigt. Die Deaktivierung der Sperrfunktion erfolgt durch Doppelklick auf den oberen Druckknopf, bis ein Ton
erfolgt.
6.1.2 Elektronische Entriegelung (einmalig)
Der Patient kann mit dem unteren Druckknopf das Orthesenkniegelenk einmalig (z.B. zum Hinsetzen) öffnen. Da
zu drücken Sie zweimal kurz hintereinander den unteren Druckknopf (wie beim Doppel-Mausklick). Diese Funktion
wird nicht durch ein Tonsignal bestätigt.

6.1.3 Mechanische Entriegelung (temporär)

Für besondere Gelegenheiten (z.B. Fahrradfahren) kann es sinnvoll sein, dass Orthesenkniegelenk temporär zu
entriegeln. Die mechanische Entriegelung des Orthesenkniegelenks wird durch die fahrradfahrende Person sym
bolisiert (Schalter auf „ “).
Um die Funktionsfähigkeit des Orthesenkniegelenks wiederherzustellen, ist es notwendig die Entriegelung wieder
aufzuheben. Diese erneute Sicherung des Orthesenkniegelenks erfolgt durch die erneute Betätigung des Schal
ters in entgegengesetzer Richtung. Der Normalzustand des Gelenks wird durch die gehende Person symbolisiert
(Schalter auf „ “).
6.2 Warnsignale Gebrauch Elektronik 17B203
6.2.1 Ladezustand des Akkus
INFORMATION
Bei völliger Entladung des Akkus schaltet sich die Elektronik ab. Das Öffnen der Sperre ist manuell möglich.
Sinkt der Ladezustand des Akkus unter die voreingestellte Ladekapazität, löst die Elektronik die hier aufgeführten
Warnsignale aus:

Das Warnsignal wiederholt sich alle 15Minuten. Der Akku sollte unverzüglich gewechselt werden. Wie schnell
sich der Akku entlädt, ist abhängig von der Umgebungstemperatur: Je kälter es ist, desto schneller reduziert sich
die Restkapazität. Die Elektronik schaltet sich ab, wenn zu wenig Energie vorhanden ist. In diesem Fall kann das
Orthesenkniegelenk nur noch mechanisch entriegelt werden (siehe Abb.4).
6.2.2 Störung der Elektronik
Das E-MAG Active ist nicht störungsanfällig. Sollten dennoch Störungen auftreten, erkennt die Elektronik den Feh
ler und löst ein Warnsignal aus:

7 Reinigung
Die Orthese regelmäßig reinigen:
Orthesenrahmen
1) Reinigen Sie die Orthese oder die E-MAG Active Komponenten von außen mit einem leicht feuchten Tuch.
2) Die Orthese oder die E-MAG Active Komponenten mit einem Tuch abtrocknen oder an der Luft trocknen las
sen. Direkte Hitzeeinwirkung vermeiden (z. B. Ofen- oder Heizkörperhitze).
Polster
1) Das Polster der Orthese herausnehmen.
2) In 30°C warmen Wasser mit ph–neutraler Seife von Hand waschen und gut ausspülen.
3) Das Polster an der Luft trocknen lassen. Direkte Hitzeeinwirkung vermeiden (z.B. Ofen- oder Heizkörperhitze).
4) Das Polster in die Orthese einkletten.
5) Eingeklebte Polster mit einem feuchten Tuch auswischen und abtrocknen.
8 Wartung
Lassen Sie das E-MAG Active alle sechs Monate von Ihrem Orthopädietechniker auf Verschleiß überprüfen, eben
so die Funktionen der Elektronikkomponenten.
9 Entsorgung
Das Produkt gemäß den geltenden nationalen Vorschriften entsorgen.
10 Rechtliche Hinweise
Alle rechtlichen Bedingungen unterliegen dem jeweiligen Landesrecht des Verwenderlandes und können dement
sprechend variieren.
10.1 Haftung

2.2 Construction and Function
The E-MAG Active is an orthotic knee joint with stance phase control which offers you a free swing phase and
locks the orthotic knee joint for the stance phase prior to heel strike. The orthotic knee joint determines the position
of your leg with the help of the electronics and enables the swing phase. Read the 646D1043 “Quick start guide”
for more information.
The E-MAG Active is an orthotic knee joint with a concealed locking mechanism, which means that the joint is less
susceptible to dirt and also prevents clothing from becoming trapped. Not only is this gentle on your clothing but,
above all, offers you enhanced safety.
The E-MAG Active has an additional locking function (PreLock) that is activated at 15° knee flexion. This secures
the orthotic knee joint before the swing phase ends. The orthotic knee joint is then fully locked when it reaches the
extension stop.
Two buttons allow you to electronically unlock the orthotic knee joint (once) or engage the lock (permanently). In
addition, the (temporary) mechanical unlocking mechanism supports a wider area of application, forexample when
cycling. These instructions for use describe the functions and operation of the E-MAG Active as well as how to
charge it and care for it.

3.2 Conditions of use
The product was developed for everyday use and must not be used for unusual activities. These unusual activities
include, for example, extreme sports (free climbing, parachuting, paragliding, etc.), sports activities that involve
jumping, sudden movements or fast sequences of steps (e.g. basketball, badminton, sporty riding).
Possible sports activities must be discussed with the O&P professional.
The product is intended exclusively for use on one user. Use of the product by another person is not approved by
the manufacturer.

5 Preparing the product for use
INFORMATION
The E-MAG Active can only be operated with the intended 317B20 battery. It was developed especially for the E-
MAG Active. Both the receptacle and lock unit are designed to fit with the form of this battery.

Before putting the E-MAG Active into operation, read the instructions for the 317B20 battery and the 317L20 bat
tery charger.
This section will describe how the E-MAG Active can be activated/deactivated and how it can be reactivated from
the energy-saving mode. The section also explains how the electronic system starts and which signals the system
emits during activation.
5.1 Charging the battery
INFORMATION
After charging, the E-MAG Active can be used for around 5,000 steps with one battery charge. Nevertheless,
charging the battery daily (ideally at night) is recommended.

The battery should always be removed when the orthosis is not in use.

5.2 Activating/deactivating the E-MAG Active

INFORMATION
Failure to unlock the orthotic knee joint for more than one hour automatically causes the control electronics to
switch to standby mode. The system is reactivated by simply pressing the top button on the control electronics.
Activation is performed by inserting the rechargeable battery into the receptacle. Every time the E-MAG Active is
activated, the control electronics unit runs a short self-test that emits the following signals:

If signals are absent, remove and reinsert the rechargeable battery. If the signals fail, there is a fault.
When the E-MAG Active is flexed, an audible signal-pause-audible signal sequence sounds as a warning signal
until the E-MAG Active is extended/locked. Deactivation is performed by removing the battery.
6 Use
This section explains how to operate the knee joint control unit by button and tells you about the warnings used by
the feedback system of the E-MAG Active to inform you of malfunctions.
6.1 Control and use of 17B203 electronics

►Only operate the single unlocking mechanism or permanent locking mechanism when standing securely.
The electronic control unit measures the position of the orthosis during walking. It unlocks the orthotic knee joint
before toe-off and locks it prior to heel strike at the end of the swing phase so the user can step down safely. Your
O&P professional adapted the electronic control unit of the E-MAG Active to your needs during the initial fitting.
Two manual switching possibilities are available to you to give you full control over the E-MAG Active (see fig.3):

6.1.1 Electronic locking (permanent)
If you feel unsafe, you can lock the joint at any time by pressing the top button for locking the orthotic knee joint.
This maybe the case when walking on a slope or if you want to stand for an extended period of time without focus
ing on the electronic control device. In order to do so, briefly press the top button twice in quick succession (like
double-clicking a computer mouse). This function is confirmed by an audible signal. The locking function is deacti
vated by pressing the top button twice in quick succession until you hear an audible signal.
6.1.2 Electronic unlocking (once)
The patient can use the lower button to unlock the orthotic knee joint once (e.g.in order to sit down). In order to do
so, briefly press the lower button twice in quick succession (like double-clicking a computer mouse). This function
is not confirmed by an audible signal.
6.1.3 Mechanical unlocking (temporary)

For certain activities (suchas cycling), it may be beneficial to temporarily unlock the orthotic knee joint. Mechanical
unlocking of the orthotic knee joint is indicated by the symbol of a cyclist (switch to " ").
The unlocking feature needs to be cancelled in order to restore the functionality of the orthotic knee joint. In order
to secure the orthotic knee joint again, the switch is operated once more in the opposite direction. The normal state
of the joint is indicated by the symbol of a walking person (switch to " ").
6.2 Warning signals, use of 17B203 electronics
6.2.1 Battery charge level
INFORMATION
The electronics will turn off if the battery is discharged completely. The lock can be released manually.
Should the battery charge level fall below the preset charge capacity, the electronics will emit the warning signals
listed here:

The warning signal is repeated every 15minutes. Replacing the battery immediately is highly recommended. How
quickly the battery is discharged depends on the ambient temperature: The colder it is, the faster the battery will be
drained. The electronics will turn off if the battery power is insufficient. If this occurs, the orthotic knee joint can
only be unlocked manually (see fig.4).

6.2.2 Failure of the electronics
The E-MAG Active is not vulnerable to failure. However, should disruptions occur, the electronics recognise the
failure and send a warning signal.

7 Cleaning
Clean the orthosis regularly:
Orthosis frame
1) Clean the orthosis or E-MAG Active components from the outside with a slightly damp cloth.
2) Dry the orthosis or E-MAG Active components with a cloth or allow to air dry. Avoid exposure to direct heat
(e.g. from an oven or radiator).
Pads
1) Remove the pad from the orthosis.
2) Wash by hand in warm water at 30°C with pH-neutral soap and rinse thoroughly.
3) Allow the pad to air dry. Avoid exposure to direct heat (e.g.from an oven or radiator).
4) Refit the pad in the orthosis.
5) Once it has been refitted, wipe the pad with a damp cloth and dry.
8 Maintenance
Have your O&P professional check your E-MAG Active for wear and tear as well as proper functioning of the elec
tronic components every six months.
9 Disposal
Dispose of the product in accordance with national regulations.

2.2 Conception et fonctionnement
L’E-MAG Active est une articulation de genou pour orthèse contrôlée en phase d’appui qui vous confère une liber
té d’oscillation en phase pendulaire et verrouille l’articulation de genou pour orthèse avant la pose du talon pour la
phase d’appui. À l’aide du système électronique, l’articulation de genou pour orthèse détermine la position de

L’E-MAG Active est une articulation de genou pour orthèse dont le système mécanique de blocage est recouvert,
ce qui signifie que l’articulation s’encrasse moins et empêche en même temps que les vêtements ne viennent se
coincer. Ce système permet non seulement d’épargner vos vêtements, mais il vous offre avant tout une sécurité ac
crue.
L’E-MAG Active dispose d’une fonction de verrouillage supplémentaire (PreLock), qui est activée dès qu’une
flexion du genou de 15° a lieu. L’articulation de genou pour orthèse est ainsi stabilisée avant la fin de la phase pen
dulaire. L’articulation de genou pour orthèse est, ensuite, complètement verrouillée dès que la butée d’extension
est atteinte.
Deux interrupteurs distincts vous permettent de déverrouiller (à titre exceptionnel) ou de verrouiller (en perma
nence) l’articulation de genou pour orthèse. De plus, le déverrouillage mécanique (temporaire) vous offre la possi
bilité d’élargir le champ d’application du système, parexemple pour la pratique du vélo. Cette notice d’utilisation
