Intended Use
The posioner is a laboratory device as dened
by DIN EN 61010-1. It is intended for indoor use
and use in an environment that is free of dirt,
oil, and lubricants.
In accordance with its design, the posioner
is intended for posioning loads at various
velocies in interval mode. The posioner is not
intended for applicaons in areas where failure
would be a considerable risk for people or the
environment.
It is only possible to use the posioner as in-
tended when completely installed and connect-
ed, and in conjuncon with suitable electronics.
The posioner may only be installed, operated,
maintained, and cleaned by authorized and
appropriately qualied personnel.
Installaon
Electrostac discharge can damage the posi-
oner.
XRemove the ESD protecve cap from the
connector only aer the posioner has
been connected to the electronics.
Mechanical forces can damage or misalign the
posioner.
XAvoid shocks and drops.
XPay aenon to the maximum permissible
forces (see manual).
XPay aenon to at contact surfaces and
similar thermal expansion properes for
the base area and load (see manual).
XLinear stage: When the moon axis is
oriented vercally, the load must be lower
than the holding force of the drive (see
manual).
Rotaon stage: When the stage is mounted
vercally, the load must be lower than the
maximum torque of the drive (see manual).
XThe calculaons must also include the
masses of posioners moved in mul-axis
systems.
The posioner could be damaged by contami-
naon or ambient condions that increase the
electrical conducvity.
XKeep the posioner free of lubricants, dirt,
condensaon, and conducve materials.
XDo not operate a vacuum-compable posi-
oner during evacuaon.
XDo not touch the encoder's scale or the
ceramic rail of the Q-Moon® drive.
The Encoder's Scale and the Ceramic Rail of
the Q-Moon® Drive
Incorrectly ed screws and locang pins can
cause damage.
XPay aenon to the maximum ghtening
torque (see manual).
XDo not allow screw heads to protrude.
XSelect the screw length according to the
depth of the mounng holes.
XDo not insert locang pins too deeply into
the moon plaorm.
Startup
If a protecve earth conductor is not properly
connected, touching the posioner in the case
of malfuncon can result in minor injuries from
electric shock.
XOperate the posioner only with a properly
connected protecve earth conductor.
XPay aenon to the applicable standards
for the protecve earth conductor connec-
on.
The surface of the posioner and the surround-
ings can heat up during operaon. Touching
the posioner can result in minor injuries from
burning.
XIf necessary, install touch protecon.
XAvoid overheang the posioner, e.g., by
reducing the stepping frequency (see man-
ual) or cooling the surface area.
General Safety Instrucons
MP139EK 4.2.0 12/2019. 0.3
MOTION | POSITIONING
Excessively high or wrongly connected operat-
ing voltages can cause damage to the posion-
er.
XUse compable electronics and cables only.
XPay aenon to the operang voltage
range of the posioner (see manual).
A high operang frequency in step mode and
connuous use of a short travel range can
cause considerable wear on the posioner.
XIf possible, reduce the operang frequency
and duraon.
XStop the moon immediately if an electron-
ics malfuncon occurs.
XIf possible, select another part of the travel
range as working range at regular intervals.
Handling Vacuum-Compable Products
If the posioner is vacuum-compable, aen-
on must be paid to cleanliness.
XTouch the stage only with powder-free
gloves.
XIf necessary, wipe the posioner clean.
Mounng the Posioner
and Connecng to
the Protecve Earth
Conductor
CAUTION!
If there is no protecve earth conductor,
there is a danger of minor injuries from
electric shock.
XOperate the stage only with a
properly connected protecve earth
conductor.
XPay aenon to the applicable stan-
dards for aaching the protecve
earth conductor .
Suitable Protecve Earth Conductor
▪▪Cross secon of the protecve earth con-
ductor ≥0.75 mm².
Mounng the Posioner
1. Use suciently conducve screws in all
mounng holes to x the stage to an under-
lying surface.
2. Tighten the mounng screws with at least 3
turns (see manual for torque).
3. Secure the screws against unintenonal
loosening, e.g., with locking paint
4. Make sure that the contact resistance is
<0.1 Ω at 25 A at all protecve earth con-
ductor connecons.
If ground loops occur, contact the PI cus-
tomer service department.
5. Hold the moon plaorm rmly or secure it
against moving while mounng the load.
6. Fix the load to the mounng holes provid-
ed.
Correct Mounng
Incorrect Mounng
Mounng on an uneven surface
Incorrect alignment of the load
Incorrectly ng of the screws
