Safety Instrucons
Intended Use
The posioner is a laboratory device as dened
by DIN EN 61010-1. It is intended to be used in
interior spaces and in an environment which is
free of dirt, oil and lubricants.
In accordance with its design, the posioner
is intended for posioning loads at dierent
velocies. The posioner is not intended for
applicaons in areas in which a failure would
present severe risks to human beings or the
environment.
The intended use of the posioner is only
possible when completely mounted and con-
nected and only in combinaon with a suitable
controller.
The posioner may only be installed, operated,
maintained and cleaned by authorized and
appropriately qualied personnel.
Installaon
Dirt, oil, lubricants, and condensaon will
render both the drive and the posion sensor of
the posioner inoperable.
XKeep the NEXACT® drive free from lubri-
cants.
XDo not touch the scale of the encoder or
the ceramic rail of the NEXACT® drive.
XKeep the posioner free from dirt and
condensaon.
Mechanical forces can damage or misalign the
posioner.
XAvoid shocks and drops.
XObserve the maximum permissible forces
(see manual).
XDo not shi the moon plaorm manually.
XObserve the correct alignment of the load
(see manual).
XInclude the masses of the moved posio-
ners in mul-axis systems in the calcula-
ons.
If the scale of the encoder is accessible, it can
be damaged by sharp objects.
XTreat the scale of the encoder with extreme
cauon.
Incorrectly ed screws and locang pins can
cause damage to the posioner.
XObserve the maximum torque for mounng
(see manual).
XDo not allow screw heads to protrude.
XSelect the screw length according to the
depth of the mounng holes.
XDo not insert locang pins too deeply into
the moon plaorm.
Collisions can damage the posioner, the load
to be moved and the environment.
XMount the posioner and the load so that
the load cannot get jammed or blocked, or
collide with objects in the workspace.
Unsuitable mounng can warp the posioner
and reduce the accuracy.
XMount the posioner on an even surface
with similar thermal expansion properes
(for recommended evenness, see manual).
Unsuitable cables can cause damage to the
electronics and can aect the performance of
the posioner.
XOnly use original parts from PI (see ma-
nual).
Radiaon (e.g. X-rays) will render the posioner
inoperable.
XProtect the posioner against radiaon.
Start-Up
There is a risk of minor injuries from crushing
between the moving parts of the posioner or
the load and a xed part or obstacle.
XKeep your ngers away from any areas
where they can be seized by moving parts.
The linear encoder of the posioner uses a
class 2 laser according to DIN EN 60825-1:2007
(see manual for further data). Laser radiaon
can be emied when the posioner is opened.
The laser beam can cause glare and irritaon.
XDo not open or disassemble the posioner.
XIf malfuncons occur, contact the PI custo-
mer service.
Moisture, liquids, and electrically conducve
materials (e.g. metal dust) that penetrate the
posioner can destroy the NEXACT® drive.
XOnly operate the posioner within the per-
missible ambient condions (see manual).

MOTION | POSITIONING
Operang voltages that are too high or incor-
rectly connected can cause damage to the
posioner.
XOnly use compable controllers.
XObserve the operang voltage range of the
posioner (see manual).
XObserve the correct pin assignment (see
manual).
Uncontrolled oscillaons can damage your
applicaon or the posioner.
XIf oscillaons occur, immediately switch o
the servo mode or stop the posioner.
XCheck the sengs of the servo-control
parameters.
Mounng the Posioner and Axing the Load
NOTICE!
Damage from incorrect mounng.
XObserve the safety instrucons in
the „Installaon“ secon.
XWhen the moon axis is aligned
vercally, the load must be lower
than the holding force of the drive
(see manual).
NOTICE!
Damage from incorrect mounng of the
screws.
XSelect screw length according to the
depth of the mounng holes.
XDo not let screw heads protrude.
XMount the posioner to the provided
mounng holes.
XAx the load to the provided mounng
holes.
XCheck that the posioner and the load are
axed rmly.
Correct Mounng
Mounng on an Uneven Surface
Incorrect Alignment of the Load
Incorrect Mounng of the Screws
