Safety Instrucons
Intended Use
The posioner is a laboratory device as dened
by DIN EN 61010-1. It is intended to be used in
interior spaces and in an environment which is
free of dirt, oil and lubricants.
In accordance with its design, the posioner
is intended for posioning loads at dierent
velocies. The posioner is not intended for
applicaons in areas in which a failure would
present severe risks to human beings or the
environment.
The intended use of the posioner is only
possible when completely mounted and con-
nected and only in combinaon with a suitable
controller.
The posioner may only be installed, operated,
maintained and cleaned by authorized and
appropriately qualied personnel.
Installaon
Dirt, oil, lubricants, and condensaon will
render both the drive and the posion sensor of
the posioner inoperable.
XKeep the NEXACT® drive free from lubri-
cants.
XDo not touch the scale of the encoder or
the ceramic rail of the NEXACT® drive.
XKeep the posioner free from dirt and
condensaon.
Mechanical forces can damage or misalign the
posioner.
XAvoid shocks and drops.
XObserve the maximum permissible forces
(see manual).
XDo not shi the moon plaorm manually.
XObserve the correct alignment of the load
(see manual).
XInclude the masses of the moved posio-
ners in mul-axis systems in the calcula-
ons.
If the scale of the encoder is accessible, it can
be damaged by sharp objects.
XTreat the scale of the encoder with extreme
cauon.
Incorrectly ed screws and locang pins can
cause damage to the posioner.
XObserve the maximum torque for mounng
(see manual).
XDo not allow screw heads to protrude.
XSelect the screw length according to the
depth of the mounng holes.
XDo not insert locang pins too deeply into
the moon plaorm.
Collisions can damage the posioner, the load
to be moved and the environment.
XMount the posioner and the load so that
the load cannot get jammed or blocked, or
collide with objects in the workspace.
Unsuitable mounng can warp the posioner
and reduce the accuracy.
XMount the posioner on an even surface
with similar thermal expansion properes
(for recommended evenness, see manual).
Unsuitable cables can cause damage to the
electronics and can aect the performance of
the posioner.
XOnly use original parts from PI (see ma-
nual).
Radiaon (e.g. X-rays) will render the posioner
inoperable.
XProtect the posioner against radiaon.
Start-Up
There is a risk of minor injuries from crushing
between the moving parts of the posioner or
the load and a xed part or obstacle.
XKeep your ngers away from any areas
where they can be seized by moving parts.
The linear encoder of the posioner uses a
class 2 laser according to DIN EN 60825-1:2007
(see manual for further data). Laser radiaon
can be emied when the posioner is opened.
The laser beam can cause glare and irritaon.
XDo not open or disassemble the posioner.
XIf malfuncons occur, contact the PI custo-
mer service.
Moisture, liquids, and electrically conducve
materials (e.g. metal dust) that penetrate the
posioner can destroy the NEXACT® drive.
XOnly operate the posioner within the per-
missible ambient condions (see manual).
