Call Station Installation:
1. Remove 12 security screws from the sides of unit.
2. Remove top cap from unit.
3. Pull front assembly away from back unit.
4. Disconnect the gray Wago connector that connects front plate to Nema Box.
5. If wall mount, mount to wall.
6. If pole mount, attach unit to pole using a secure mounting fastener.
7. Install battery in bottomof call station.
8. Connect the power cables to the battery. Red to positive and black to negative.
9. Slide the Photocell cover to the proper position on the photocell in
order for the blue light to be lit at the proper time (See drawing below).
10. Reconnect the Wago connectors that attach the front plate to the NEMA box. Secure the front
assembly to the back panel, install the top cap, and reinstall the 12 screws to the sides of the unit.

Rath recommends that the call station be mounted so that the push button is less than 48 inches above
the ground to comply with the Americans with Disabilities (ADA) requirements. For ease of installation,
two people should perform the install.

Solar Panel and Antenna Installation:

1. Identify a location that will allow the solar panel to collect maximum light
with minimal amount of shade. The panel must face directly south.
2. Mount the solar panel bracket to the wall or pole with the
two supplied hose clamps or screws (not provided). (see photo on right)
3. Disassemble the top of the 900 MHz antenna. Feed base of the antenna
through the hole of the mounting bracket, slide the plastic sleeve of the
antenna over the bolt, then screw down the top of the antenna to the
antenna bolt (see photo on right).
4. Connect the power cable that leads out of the top of the call station
to the terminals in the solar panel electrical box by feeding the wire
through the circular opening in the box. Connect red to positive and black
to negative which are the outer two terminals.

5. Secure the weather-tight connection to box and reattach cover by installing
the screw(s).
6. Use the chart below to determine your approximate longitude. Take your
estimated latitude, multiply by .9 and add 29 to arrive at the angle to set the
solar panel to.
7. Mount the solar panel to the bracket by loosening the bolts on
each mounting clamp which are located on each end of the bracket.
Slide the panel frame under each clamp and tighten the bolts to
secure the clamps and pin frame to the bracket.
8. Using supplied cable ties, secure the antenna cable to the
solar panel solar panel power cable.

900 MHz Base Station Installation:
1. Set base station in the planned location.
2. Assemble the antenna to the magnetic base.
3. Attach the antenna to the base station at the connection marked ANT.
4. Attach the supplied cable into the TEL port of the base station and connect to an analog phone jack.
5. Plug in the transformer into the wall and connect to the base station.
Programming the Phone:
On-Site:
Step 1. Open up Nema enclosure to expose keypad
Step 2. Begin Program mode
A. Press Enter
Step 3. Program Emergency Numbers
A. Press 1, Enter, (phone number), Stop
Note: Press 2-5 in step 2A for Emergency numbers 2-5
as needed
Step 4. If Ring Down
(No dial tone) (Skip Step 3 above)
A. Press 1, Enter, Pause, Stop
B. Press 9, Enter, 0
Step 5. Program Call Tracker Message
A. To turn on message Press 1, 3, Enter, 2
B. Press 6, Record (speak message) Stop (to replay message Press 6, Play)
C. For no message Press 1, 3, Enter, 0
Step 6. To exit program mode
A. Press Stop for 3 seconds

You can program the phone on-site or program remotely. If you change the emergency number
being called, you can do it remotely without going to the call station.

Programming of the Phone (continued):
Remote:
Step 1. Begin Program mode
A. Call into phone by dialing the number the line is on.
B. After 1st simulated ring Press #, # (Wait for 4 tones)
C. Key in security code (default is 1111) (Wait for confirmation tones)
Step 2. Program Emergency Numbers
A. Press 1, *, (Phone number), *, # (Wait for confirmation tones)
Note: Emergency numbers (2-5) Repeat Step 2A; pressing (2-5) as needed.
Step 3. If Ring Down
(No dial tone) (Skip Step 2)
A. Press 1, *, #, *, *, # (Wait for confirmation tones)
B. Press 9, *, 0 (Wait for confirmation notes)
Step 4. Program Call Tracker Message
A. To turn on message Press 1, 3, *, 2 (Wait for confirmation tones)
B. Press 6, *, (speak message) #, *, # (Wait for confirmation tones)
a. (To replay message press 6, #) (Wait for confirmation tones)
C. For NO message Press 1, 3, *, 0 (Wait for confirmation tones)
Step 5. To Exit Program Mode
A. Press *, #, 0 (you will hear beep, beep) *, # (You will hear a buzz)

Testing of the Phone:
Push the silver emergency button on front of the Tower:
Adjusting the Volume:
If the volume is too low or high, adjust it by referring to the diagram and instructions below.
*Note - Refer to the instructions under Programming the Phone to access the circuit board.
Adjusting the Microphone:
If the person you are calling reports your voice is not loud enough, increase the Microphone Sensitivity by
adjusting VR2 ¼ turn clockwise (requires a small Phillips screwdriver).
Adjusting the Speaker:
If the voice of the person you call is not loud enough in the emergency phone speaker, increase the
Volume, by adjusting VR1 ¼ turn clockwise.
Called Party Hang-up Instructions
Depending on the Phone System, it may take some time for the Rath emergency phone to hang-up. To
force the Rath phone to hang-up immediately, the called party should press * then # before hanging up.
Suggested Ongoing Maintenance of the Unit:
Rath recommends that the Emergency Call Station be tested and maintained on a monthly basis to ensure
proper operation. For testing, follow the procedure outlined in Testing of the Phone.
Using a soft brush, immediately clear the solar panel of all foreign material including snow.
Rath recommends that the 12 volt battery be replaced every 2 years.
Do you hear a dial tone?
Does the Strobe start flashing immediately when button was pushed?
Does red LED become a solid light when you pushed the button?
Does the red LED flash and a short time after (15-20 seconds) the called party started talking
to you? (Delay is due to phone telling other party your location via the “Location Message”)
Can you hear the other party clearly? (if no, see “Adjust Speaker” section below)
Can the other party hear you clearly? (If no, see “Adjust Microphone section below)
When the party you called hangs up, does the strobe stop? (if no, see hang-up instructions)

If you have answered YES to all questions, you have successfully installed and tested your new
emergency phone. If you answer no to any question, proceed to the Troubleshooting section.

Troubleshooting:
Problem Possible Cause & Fixes
No dial tone when the
button is pushed:
• Check to make sure the phone line connected.
Audio is low from the
speaker:
• Speaker control needs to be adjusted. Go to Speaker Adjustment on page 6.
Called Party says audio
is low:
• Microphone control needs to be adjusted. Go to Microphone Adjustment
section on page 6.
Audio is distorted from
the speaker:
• Speaker control needs to be adjusted. Go to Speaker Adjustment on page 6.
• Make sure there are no items touching the speaker inside the tower.
When called party
hangs up, strobe
continues to flash for 1
minute:
• Slow disconnecting signal from the phone company. This is considered normal
operation.
When called party
hangs up, strobe
continues to flash:
• Phone company or phone system is not providing a disconnect signal. Contact
the appropriate party to make sure the disconnect signal is provided.
Call station appears
non-functional. Strobe
does not flash. No audio
is heard from speaker
when button is pushed:
• Check to make sure phone line is connected.
• Make sure the battery is connected.
• Make sure the speaker holes are not blocked.
• Make sure the microphone hole is not blocked.
• Push button may be nonfunctional.
• Disconnect the red wire in the Solar Panel Electrical Box (see photo on page 3).
Using a voltmeter, measure the voltage across the + and - terminals.There should be
approximately 20 volts DC on a sunny day. If voltage is low or 0, the panel may be damaged.
Solar Station appears
non-functional.
Strobe does not flash
and no audio is heard
from speaker when
button is pushed:
• Check to make sure phone line is connected
• Disconnect both red and black wires in the Solar Panel Electrical box. Measure the
voltage across the + and – terminals with a voltmeter. The voltage should be more than
12.8 volts DC. If voltage is low, battery may not be getting charged or may no longer be
holding a charge. If voltage is 0, check to make sure battery is connected properly.
• Push button may be nonfunctional.
Station works fine in the
afternoon, but not at
night or in the early
morning:
• Make sure solar panel is not shaded by trees or other objects.
• Disconnect the red wire in the Solar Panel Electrical Box (see photo on page 3).

be approximately 20 volts DC on a sunny day.
• Disconnect both red and black wires in the Solar Panel Electrical Box. Measure
the voltage across the + and – terminals with a voltmeter. The voltage should be more
than 12.8 volts DC. If voltage is low, battery may not be getting charged or may no longer
be holding a charge. If voltage is 0, then check to make sure battery is connected properly.
Blue light stays on
constantly, even though
it should only be on at
night.
• Check photocell adjustment on page 2.
• Cover the opening of the photo eye, the blue light should go out. If the
light stays lit, then the photodiode may be damaged.

Rath Communications (Rath) products are warranted to be free of manufacturing defects in material and
workmanship for two (2) years from the date of sale to the customer.
Rath will, at its election, repair, replace or make appropriate fixes at its option, to any phone product
found to be defective and is within the warranty period.
Under no circumstances will Rath be responsible for any expense in connection with any repairs made by
anyone other than the factory or an authorized representative of Rath, unless such repairs have been
specifically authorized in writing.
Equipment failure or damages caused by misuse or negligence will not be covered under this warranty.
Rath’s liability under this warranty shall be solely limited to the repair or replacement of the defective
parts within the warranty period, and will not be liable under any circumstances, for consequential or
incidental damages, including, but not limited to, personnel injury or labor costs.
This Warranty statement of policy is in lieu of any other policy expressed or implied and no representative
or person is authorized to assume any other liability or adopt any other policy for Rath without our written
consent.
Product Satisfaction Guarantee
Rath guarantees that all our products will function as per specifications, however if you are unhappy with
the performance, you may return the product at your expense within 30 days from the date of invoice for
a refund less a 20% restocking fee. If damage has occurred to the product, Rath will access the degree
and deduct the amount accordingly. Custom product sales are final.
