Poweredby3x1.5V size AA batteries.
Openthebatterycompartmentonthebackoftheinstrumentandinsertthesuppliedbatteriescorrectly(observingcorrectpolarity).

3.0 MECHANICAL DESCRIPTION

RESET Turn On / Off automatic autozero.
MUTE Turns on/off the instrument acoustic signaling.
SENS ‘SENS’ button if pressed repeatedly cycles between the three instrument
sensitivities(High,Medium,Low).
4.0 OPERATION
• Pressthe“ON/OFF”button;thiswillturntheinstrumentonandbeginthewarm-upphase,showingthefollowingscreen:
• Duringthewarm-upphase,thecenterLEDofthescreenflashesfor30sec.

• Afterthewarm-upphaseisover,the“0”symbolflashesonthescreen,indicatingthattheinstrumentisreadyforuse;thebuzzericonislit,
andtheinstrumentmakesasoundeverysecond.Youcanpressthe“MUTE”buttontomutethebuzzer.Ifthebuzzerisalreadymuted,press
the “MUTE”buttonagaintoreactivatethebuzzer.
• Bydefault,theinstrumentassoonasitisturnedonwillperformasensorautozero,andtheautozeroicon(A)willbelitred.However,the
autozerofunctioncanbedisabledbyholdingdowntheautozerobutton“RESET”foratleastthreeseconds;thentheinstrumentwillbein
themanualautozeromode.Theautozeroinmanualmodecanbedonebybrieflypressingthe“RESET”button;pressingthisbuttonforthree
secondswillre-enabletheautozeromode.Whentheinstrumentisrestarted,theautozeromode(A)willberestored.
• Afterthewarm-upphase,thesensitivityicon(S)willbered,indicatingthatthedeviceisatitsmaximumsensitivity.
• Placethenoseoftheprobewherealeakismostlikelytohaveoccurred.Iftheinstrumentdetectsaleak,itwillreportaleaklevelonthe
displaythatisproportionaltotheamountofgasdetectedandwillemitasound;thegreatertheleak,thesharperthesoundemittedbythe
instrument.Itisrecommendedtomovetheinstrumentoutoftheareaoftheleakforatleast10secondsbeforemakinganewdetectionpass.
• Whentheworkisnished,pressthe“OFF/ON”button3secondstoturnofftheinstrument.
Note:Removetheinsulationsheetfromthebatterycompartmentbeforerstuse.
CAUTION:Pressingthe“SENS”buttoncyclesbetweenthreelevelsofinstrumentsensitivity(green=minimum,yellow=medium,red=maximum).
4.1 Gas detection method
Thegurebelowexempliesthemethodofleakdetection:
• Bendtheexibleendoftheinstrumentintotheshapethatbestsuitsthecaseathand;slowlymovetheprobeclosertotheleakage
point.
• Iftheinstrumentdetectsaleakitwillsignalthisbyshowinganumberfrom1to7onthedisplay,where1istheminimumconcentration
leveland7isthemaximum.Atthesametime,theinstrumentwillemitasoundtosignalthepresenceofgas,thehigherthefrequency
the higher the gas concentration.
• Standbackandapproachtheareaofsuspectedgasleaktoconrmthatthereisindeedaleakatthatlocation.
• Whenthesourceoftheleakhasbeenfound,itisnecessarytoreportitandchecktheentiresystemuntilallleakshavebeenfoundand
properly reported.
4.2 Automatic and manual autozero setting
Soastoavoidtheinterferenceondetectioncausedbyrefrigerantintheenvironment,thedetectorallowsthesensortoautomatically
self-zero.
Automaticautozero(Default): When the AIconisturnedon,theinstrumentwillautomaticallyautozerotheroomgasconcentration
and,onlywhenitdetectsahigherconcentration,itwillactivatethebuzzer.Thisoptionisonbydefault;todiasttivateitandbringthe
instrumentintomanualautozeromode,pressthe“RESET”buttonfor3seconds.
Reset(Autozero)manual:Incasethemanualmodeison,sensorzeroingcanbedonebybrieypressingtheautozero“RESET”button.
When the screen shows ‘8’,itmeansthatthezeroinghastakenplacecorrectly.Atthispoint,agasconcentrationhigherthantheambient
concentrationcanbedetected.Toreturntheinstrumenttoautozeromode,pressthe“RESET”keyfor3seconds.
Note:Ifthegasconcentrationintheenvironmentisverylow,theAutozrerofunctionwillmaketheinstrumentmoresensitive,andviceversa,
ifthereisahighgasconcentrationintheenvironment,theinstrumentwillbelesssensitive.

4.3 Display of instrument sensitivity level
Thedisplayconstantlyshowsthesensitivitylevelofthesensor;thiscanbesetbypressingthe‘SENS’buttonandcyclingthroughthe
threeavailablelevels:High,Medium,Low:

4.4 Leak alarm / acoustic alarm silencing
Thedetectorisequippedwithvisualandaudiblesignals.Ifaleakisdetected,theinstrumentdisplaysanumberonascaleof1to7
indicatingtheextentoftheleak.Thehighertheamountofgasescapingfromtheleak,thecloserthenumberonthescreenwillbeto7
andthesharpertheaudiblesignalwillbe.Theusercandecidewhethertokeepbothsignals(visualandaudible)activeormutetheaudible
alarm,keepingonlythedisplayindication.Afterthewarm-upphase,theinstrumentoperatesnormallyandautomaticallyactivatesthe
audiblealarm;atthispointitwillbepossibletopressthe“MUTE”buttontoactivate/deactivatetheaudiblealarm.
4.5 Error code summary table
1-Incaseanerroroccursinthewarm-upphaseoftheprobe,onlyaservicecentercanrepairthisfault.
2-Aftersolvingtheproblemofthemissingorfailedprobe,theinstrumentneedstoredothewarm-upphase.
3-Whenmultiplefaultsoccursimultaneously,theorderofpriorityis:1E->2E->3E.

4.6 Automatic shutdown function
Theinstrumentturnsoffautomaticallyifnobuttonispressedforatleast30consecutiveminutes.Theautopower-offtimerisresetevery
time the user presses a button on the instrument.
4.7 Battery charge level display
Thedisplayconstantlyshowsthestateofchargeofthebatteriesviathebatteryicon,whichcantakeonthreecoloredstatesdescribed
below.

5.0 MAINTENANCE
Regularandsystematicmaintenancecanextendthelifeoftheinstrumentandimproveitsperformance.
Sensor life:canbeusednormallyforupto1year.Ifthesensorisconstantlyusedinenvironmentswithhighrefrigerantgasconcentration,the
lifeofthesensorwillbeshortenedquickly.Whenthelifeofthesensorisover,thesensormustbereplaced.
Sensor replacement:asshowninthegurebelow,unscrewtheprobecapandreplacethesensor.

Note:Makesurethepolarityofthesensorisrespected.
6.0 PRECAUTIONS
1. Whileyouareusingtheinstrument,thepressureoftherefrigerationsystemshouldbenomorethan50psi,andthesearchareashouldbe
almostdraft-free.Ifthereiswind,refrigerantgasescapingfromtheleakwillbequicklydispersedawayfromthesource,thuscompromising
gas measurement and detection.
2. TheAutozerofunctionisonbydefault,sowhenthedetectorturnsonanddetectsrefrigerantgas,itwillautozerothewiththevalueof
refrigerantgasintheroomatthattime.IncaseAutozeroisdisabled,youhavetopress‘RESET’buttonbrieytozerothegasconcentration
manually.
3. Themostlikelysourcesofgasleaksareinplacespollutedwithoilordustandpipejoints.Theseplacesshouldbecheckedasapriority.
4. Thesensorshouldideallybekept3...5mm(1/8...1/4inch)fromthesuspectedleakwhilesearching,soastopreservethesensorfrom
environmentalpollutionthatcouldinterferewiththeaccuracyofthesensor.Werecommendmovingtheprobeataspeedtocover25...50
mmpersecond(1or2inches/second).
5. Itisforbiddentobringthesensorintodirectcontactwithanenvironmentwithaconcentrationhigherthan30,000ppmrefrigerantgas.
