NOTE: These directions apply to cases manufactured after
April 16, 1979. The keying of these locks is the same as desk
locks FR-301 through FR-450. If your file has sliding doors,
special lock catches and lock bar retainers are required.

1. Mark each interior and corresponding opening with a piece of tape on the front and inside of the case.
This tape is necessary when installing lock catches for proper height interiors.

4. Carefully remove knock-out in center of case top by using a punch and hammer.
After slug is removed file any small burrs that may be on edges of hole with small round file.
5. Install lock bar into recess of front upright with rectangular slot to the front. Attach spring to hole in
recess of front of fourth square cut-out from the bottom of the front upright. Attach other end of spring
to fourth rectangular slot from bottom of the lock bar.

6. Slide left and right hand lock rod supports on to each end of lock rod with identification mark at left rear.

7. Insert left end of lock rod into hole in left lock bar. Place left hand in middle of lock rod and right hand
on right side of lock rod, bow lock rod downward enough so other end can be inserted into hole in right
lock bar.
8. Insert tab at front of right hand lock rod support into rectangular slot at front of top front frame. Then
pivot lock rod support until hole in rear flange aligns with hole in rear of top front frame. Move lock rod
to locked position and insert attaching screw. Insert left hand lock rod support using the same
procedures.

Note: Lubricate all friction points with Steelcase Brush Lube (lock yoke and top of tabs).
9. With lock in hand, turn barrel with key so slot is in vertical position, remove key. While lock rod is
held against upper rear portion of top front frame, install lock through knock-out hole in top, and
attach lock to front frame with screws. Insert key and rotate so key slot is in horizontal position.
10. Engage lock rod with lock yoke and cut-outs of lock mounting bracket. Bend tabs of lock mounting
bracket straight over lock rod to retain in cut-outs. Insert key in lock and rotate to check free
movement of lock bars. If binding occurs, check lock bar catches and lock bar retainer.
NOTE: Push lock rod into corner of angle to install lock.

11. Refer to Step 1 for location of lock catches.
Install second from bottom catches first. To
accomplish this, slide lock catches through
rectangular slot in lock bar and attach with
round head screws 3/8" long (provided with
lock package). Remove tape.
12. For File without Sliding Doors
Attach lock bar retainer to lock bar. For taller cases two
lock bar retainers must be installed, one approximately
12" from top and one approximately 12" from the bottom.
Placement may vary depending on case configuration.

Push door in completely.
