1 About this product
1 About this product
The TouchDown2 office furniture product line by Steelcase is
subject to continuous quality control during manufacture and
distribution. This ensures fault-free functionality.
TouchDown2 is GS-qualified.
The type plate of the gas-spring supported height
adjustment element is located under the desktop.
1.1 Intended use
The TouchDown2 desk is designed exclusively for use as
office furniture. Any other use, or use beyond the specified
intended use is considered improper use.
Intended use also includes compliance with all
instructions in the quick guide!
1.1.1 Foreseeable misuse
Improper use of the product can result in danger to life and
limb as well as property damage. For this reason, improper use
is prohibited. In the event of improper use, Steelcase assumes
no liability for any damage that could occur and does not
guarantee that the components will function properly.
Possible improper use includes:
■Lifting loads.
■Use as a climbing aid.
■Use for permanent storage of objects with a total
weight exceeding 75 kg.

2 Product description
The TouchDown2 office furniture program by Steelcase
consists of the following products:
■Desk without height adjustment
■Desk with gas-spring supported height adjustment
Dimensions and weight specifications of your product are
provided on the delivery note.

2.3 Overview
The figure shows one of several design variants of the
TouchDown2 desk. It serves merely as an illustration of the
desk components.
Adjustment of the desk height is described under
Operating and adjusting on page11!

3.1 Safety instructions
DANGER
Danger of crushing or shearing injuries
through improper operation of the height
adjustment element!
During manual height adjustment body parts or objects can be
crushed or sheared off.
}Maintain an adequate lateral distance (at least 25 mm
for distances that remain unchanged, at least 500
mm for obstructions that cannot be seen) to all sur-
rounding objects, walls, etc.
}Set up the desk such that adequate free space is
ensured for the entire travel length of lift movements
and for maintenance.
WARNING
Injuries or damage possible due to fracture
of the fastening bolts!
When lifting on the desktop or the attached components, the
fastening bolts could tear out.
}When transporting or moving the desk, only grasp it
via the column.

CAUTION
"Minor injuries or damage can occur due to
tilting!
"When moving with open desktop, minor injuries or damage
can occur due to tilting."
}Watch out for stumbling hazards, thresholds and nar-
row passages .
3.2 Checking the delivery contents
After unpacking, check the product immediately for damage
sustained during transport and for completeness; inform the
manufacturer of any damage as soon as possible.
3.3 Assembly
Please follow the provided assembly instructions to assemble
the TouchDown2 desk.
Steelcase recommends having the authorised dealer
or an assembly company assemble the desk.

4.1 Safety instructions
The TouchDown2 desk should only be used and operated in
faultless condition and in compliance with the instructions in
the user guide.
Before changing the height of the desk, ensure that:
■the desktop is horizontal. In case of uneven floors,
adjust the height using the adjusting screws on the
feet.
■people or objects (e.g. open doors or windows) are
not in the lifting range, or do not protrude into the
lifting range.
■no one is on the desk.
■the maximum permissible load capacity of the desk is
not exceeded.
4.2 Operation
DANGER
Severe or fatal injury due to gas springs!
"The blockable gas springs used for TouchDown2 (Stabilus
4596 UM) are permanently pressurised and must never be
opened. Improper installation or improper replacement of the
gas pressure springs can result in severe or fatal injury."
}Only specialists are allowed to work on gas springs!
}Only remove and handle gas springs in extended
status!

4 Operating and adjusting
CAUTION
Minor injuries due to improper operation of
the manual height adjustment element!
"Improper operation of the desk's manual height adjustment
element can result in minor injuries"
}Never release the desk without counter force!
}if the desktop is overloaded, remove the weight
before releasing the operating button.
1. Place one hand on the desktop as counter force.
2. Press and hold the operating button. The height can be
freely determined by guiding the desktop with your hand.
3. Release the operating button, as soon as the desired
position is reached.

5.2 Cleaning and care
Use off-the-shelf cleaning agents to clean the surfaces of the
desk.
Only use polishing and cleaning agents that are suitable for the
respective materials (wood, plastic, metal, etc.).

6 Disposal
Dismantling should be carried out by skilled and qualified
personnel only.
Proceed as follows to permanently dismantle and dispose of
the product.
}Separate the parts according to
–their status as components that can be re-used
–or material groups that must be disposed of
(wood, metal, plastic, electrical parts, etc.)
and ensure that they are returned to the material recyling
system. Compliance with all applicable regional regulations is
required.
If the product will be dismantled, ask the manufacturer for
recycling instructions.

Delivery, set up, instruction
The manufacturer or the retailer usually delivers, assembles
and sets up the desk.
The users are instructed by the manufacturer or the authorised
dealer with regard to operation.
Repairs and spare parts
Original spare parts and accessories can be obtained from the
manufacturer.
If it is not possible to eliminate faults or malfunctions, please
contact the Customer Service Department:

ständigen Qualitätskontrolle. Somit wird die fehlerfreie Funk-
tionalität gewährleistet.
TouchDown2 ist GS qualifiziert.
Das Typenschild der gasfedergestützten Höhen-
verstellung befindet sich unter der Tischplatte!
1.1 Bestimmungsgemäße Verwendung
Der Tisch TouchDown2 ist ausschließlich für den Einsatz als
Büromöbel konzipiert. Eine andere oder dar-
überhinausgehende Benutzung gilt als nicht bestim-
mungsgemäß.
Zur bestimmungsgemäßen Verwendung gehört auch
das Beachten aller Hinweise aus der Bedie-
nungsanleitung!
1.1.1 Vorhersehbarer Fehlgebrauch
Wird das Produkt nicht bestimmungsgemäß verwendet,
können sowohl Gefahren für Leib und Leben als auch Sach-
beschädigungen auftreten. Aus diesem Grunde ist eine bestim-
mungswidrige Verwendung untersagt. Bei nicht
bestimmungsgemäßer Verwendung übernimmt Steelcase
keine Haftung für eventuell auftretende Schäden und keine
Garantie für einwandfreies und funktionsgemäßes Arbeiten
