GETTING STARTED
Thank you for purchasing Hunter Douglas blockout roller shades. With proper installation,
operation and care, your new shades will provide years of beauty and performance.
Please thoroughly review this instruction booklet and the enclosed packing list before
beginning the installation. For information regarding operation and programming, refer to the
guide included with your remote control or wireless wall switch.
Tools and Fasteners Needed
■ Flat blade and Phillips screwdriver
■ Level, (laser level is recommended)
■ Measuring tape and pencil
■ Cassette Shades. Power drill,

∕ 32 " drill bit, and

∕ 4 " hex driver
■ Fascia Shades. Power drill,

In addition, you will need fasteners designed to work with your specific mounting surface(s).

Installation Overview
To install your shade, you will need to perform the following three easy steps:
STEP 1: Mount the Installation Brackets
STEP 2: Install the Battery Wand (If Applicable)
STEP 3: Install the Shade
STEP 4: Connect the Power Source

STEP 1: Mount the Installation Brackets
■ Installation Brackets for Cassette Shades. The number of installation brackets
required varies depending on the shade width, as shown in the table.
Mounting Types and Window Terminology
If the installation brackets are mounted correctly, the rest of the installation process follows
very easily. To prepare for this important first step, review the mounting types and basic
window terminology illustrated below.

Inside Mount — Cassette Shades
■ Mark 4" from each jamb for bracket location.
➤ If more than two installation brackets came with your order, space additional
bracket(s) evenly between the two end brackets and mark their location. Mount into
wood whenever possible.
NOTE: PowerView®Gen 3 Shades: Allow a minimum of 15

the battery wand.
■ The minimum mounting depth for Cassette Blockout shades is 1

■ Center the brackets on your marks, then mark each of
the screw holes.
IMPORTANT: The front edges of the installation
brackets must be level and aligned to eachother.
■ Drill the screw holes using a

∕ 32 " drill bit.
■ Use a level to check that the mounting surface is
level. Shim the brackets if necessary. Shims are not
provided.
■ Attach the installation brackets using the
screws provided.
WARNING: Product is heavy. Mount into wood/metal studs or into concrete with
concrete anchors. Drywall anchors are not recommended
For PowerView Gen 3, proceed to “STEP 2: Install the Battery Wand (If
Applicable)” on page 10.

Outside Mount — Cassette Shades
■ Center the cassette over the window opening at the desired height. Use a pencil to lightly
mark each end of the cassette.
■ Mark 4" from each end of the cassette for the bracket location.
➤ If more than two installation brackets came with your order, space additional
bracket(s), between the two end brackets and mark their location. Whenever possible,
mount into wood.
■ Center the brackets on your marks, then mark each of the screw holes.
➤ A minimum 4" flat vertical surface is required to mount the brackets.
■ Drill the screw holes using a

∕ 32 " drill bit.
■ Use a level to check that the mounting surface is
level. Shim the brackets if necessary. Shims are
not provided.
■ Attach the installation brackets using the 1

Inside Mount — Fascia Shades
Custom Clutch brackets shown below. Shades with PowerView®Gen 3 Automation fascia
brackets follow the same installation procedure with a motor bracket on the right and
idle bracket on the left. See “Product View — Fascia Blockout with PowerView®Gen 3
Automation” on page 3.
■ Assemble the two end brackets and the top/rear panel.
➤ Place the bottom of the top/rear panel into the bottom
indention of the brackets. Rotate the panel up and snap it
into place.
■ Check that the outer surfaces of the brackets are flush with the
ends of the panel.
■ Hold the bracket and panel assembly centered in place at
the window.
■ Use a level against the bottom edge to make sure the assembly is level. A shim may
require between the brackets and the mountingsurface.
■ Mark the screw holes.
➤ The minimum mounting depth required and fully recessed depth is 4

∕ 8 ".
■ Remove the assembly from the window.
■ Drill the screw holes using a

∕ 8 " drill bit for shade with Custom Clutch or

∕ 32 " drill bit for
shades with PowerView Gen 3 Automation.
■ Attach the bracket and panel assembly to the mounting surface using the screws provided.

Outside Mount — Fascia Shades
Custom Clutch brackets shown below. Shades with PowerView®Gen 3 Automation fascia
brackets follow the same installation procedure with a motor bracket on the right and idle

Automation” on page 3.
Assemble the two end brackets and the top/rear panel.
➤ Place the top of the top/rear panel into the top indention on the
front of the bracket. Rotate the panel down and snap it
into place.
■ Check that the outer surfaces of the brackets are flush with the ends
of the panel.
■ Hold the bracket and panel assembly centered in place at
the window.

STEP 2: Install the Battery Wand (If Applicable)
For the headrail-mounted battery wand, battery wand clips and battery wand mount are
installed before the shade is installed. Any other power options, the power source will be
connected after the shade is installed.

■ Attach the battery wand clip to the back of the cassette approximately 10" from the
motor side.
➤ Place the bottom of the clip into the lip, squeeze to compress the clip then rotate it up
and hook it into the top channel.

■ Attach the rechargeable battery wand clip to the cassette.

Install the Rechargeable Battery Mount into the Battery Wand Clips
■ From the back of the shade headrail, connect the power cable from the motor side into the
socket on the rechargeable battery mount.
■ Align the slots in the battery mount with the battery wand clips.
■ Push the battery mount onto the battery wand clips until it snaps into place. Check to
make sure the battery mount is secure.
CAUTION: Be sure the cable does not become pinched by the battery wand clips during
installation. Damage or overheating of components could result.
NOTE: Do not install the rechargeable battery wand into the battery mount before
installing the shading. See “STEP 4: Connect the Power Source” on page 20 for
instructions on inserting the battery wand into the battery mount.

STEP 3: Install the Shade
Install the Cassette
■ Install the cassette straight into the bracket as shown to ensure the features on the
bracket align with the open sections in the back of the cassette.
■ Push the cassette back to snap it into the lower lip on the bracket.

Install Fascia Clutch Shades

■ Position the bead chain connector.
➤ Ensure the bead chain connector is pulled to the back of
the chain wheel.
■ The shade should be wrapped tight with the paper banding
in place. The bottom bar should be positioned just below
the fabric.
■ Push the clutch end of the roller with the clutch base on
the bracket.
Install Idler End
■ Push in the spring idler to compress.
■ Slide the idler onto the bracket and slide to the
center hole. Idler will expand and will engage the
bracket to secure the shade into the bracket.
■ After installing the shade, remove the paper
banding that is used to prevent the shade
fromunrolling.

Install Fascia PowerView®Gen 3 Shades
Top/rear cover and screws removed in illustrations below for clarity.
■ Remove the foam insert from the idle end of the shade.
■ Verify the top limit screw is screwed in completely. The screw will
tighten counterclockwise.
■ The shade should be wrapped tight with the paper banding
in place. The bottom bar should be positioned just below
the fabric.
■ Holding the shade to the window, rotate the shade to align
the motor end with the channels on the bracket before installing
the idle end then push the idle end of the shade onto the bracket.
CAUTION: Do not rotate the motor in the tube manually, as it
will damage the motor.
➤ Once motor is aligned, reinstall the idle end of the shade onto
the bracket.
■ Slide the shade into the motor bracket until it clicks
into place. Refer to the images for how to orient your
shade. Gently pull back on the shade to ensure it is
secure.
CAUTION: Be sure the power cables are not pinched
or caught in the brackets.

Assemble the Side Channels — Cassette Shades
■ Remove the adhesive from the back of the light blocker.
■ Thread wool pile from channel into the light blocker channel.
■ Slide the light blocker into the top of the side channel.
➤ Press the light blocker into place to secure the adhesive.
■ Outside Mount Only. Push the side channel end caps into the
bottom of the side channels.

Install the Side Channels — Inside Mount
NOTE: Lower the shade slightly when you mount each side channel to fit the bottom rail into
the top of thechannel.
■ Foam tape has been provided to reduce light seepage. Apply to the jambs and the sill of
the mounting surface, if necessary. Caulk (not provided) can also be used to reduce
light seepage.
■ For Cassette Shades. Slide the light
blocker behind the cassette.
➤ Ensure there isn't a gap between
the side channel and the sill. The
side channel should sit on the sill.
Also, ensure the back of the side
channel is flush with the bracket.
■ For Fascia Shades. Slide the side channel
under the fascia bracket.
➤ Ensure there isn't a gap between the
side channel and the sill. The side
channel should sit on the sill. Also,
ensure the back of the side channel is
flush with the top/rear panel.

■ Cassette Shades Only. Slide the light blocker behind the cassette.
■ Abut the side channel flush with the bottom of the cassette end cap or the fascia bracket.
■ Align the outer edge of the side channels with the outside of the cassette end caps or
fascia bracket.
