2 Introduction
Thank you for choosing our product. Please read this manual carefully
before use to make best use of all functions of the product and to
guarantee that it has a long service life. Please store the manual in a
safe place for later reference.
This product is a portable digital audio player which allows you to play
your MP3 and WMA tracks and make voice recordings or save files of
any kind. The modern colour display lets you view digital pictures and
videos too.
Caution
Please read the general safety instructions in chapter 7
before using the MP3 player. Pay particular attention to the
instructions on safely concluding the digital transfer
between the MP3 player and computer in chap. 3.7.

3 Getting started
3.1 Controls
Familiarise yourself with the controls of your MP3 player before use.
Key Functions
PLAY : On/off, play, pause, stop, end the menu
MENU : Switch to menu, mark option, switch to option
VOL : Increase / Reduce volume
NEXT : Fast forward, selection of options
PREV : Rewind, selection of options

The definition of keystroke action
Keystroke action including four operation methods of shortly press,
keep pressing, stay press and single press. It will mean the shortly
press without special explaining later.
Shortly press: It will go into effect once press keystroke.
Keep pressing: t will go into effect even just once only pressing
keystroke for more than 1 ... 2 second.
Single press: It will go into effect instantly until leaving the hand from
pressing keystroke.
Stay press: The event will go into effect time after time in definite
frequency during from pressing keystroke to leaving the hand, for
instance FF and FB.
3.2 Battery status
The internal 3.7V battery is rechargeable. The charge state of the
battery is indicated by various symbols to enable you to estimate how
long the player will operate.
Displaying full when electricity reaching 3.7 V, and the electri-
city indicating decrease with the increase of service time.
The middle of electricity icon will display empty when the
electricity is almost exhausted, so you should charge up for it
in time at this time.
The internal battery may be charged by connecting to a free PC USB-
Port or by using an optional power pack / charger (included with X30
Plus) sold seperatly (see Chapter 3.5). The power pack / charger is
available and may be ordered from our web site www.odys.de.
Please charge the battery fully before using for the first time.
Charging an empty battery will take approximately 3-4 hours.

If not to be used for longer periods, switch the player off
using the main switch, otherwise the batteries may discharge
quickly.
3.3 Installing the driver
When using Windows 98SE, you must first install the
correspondding driver found on the CD-ROM before
connecting the MP3 player to your computer.
Connect the MP3 player to your PC using the USB cable.
The driver installation starts. When using Windows ME, 2000 and XP,
the PC recognizes a new hardware device (mass storage device)
and automatically installs the corresponding driver.
If an error occurs during installation, remove the USB cable, restart the
operating system and reconnect the USB cable to the PC.
3.4 Load the battery via the USB connection
The rechargeable internal battery can be charged using the USB
connection of your computer or a USB hub with its own power supply.
Before charging the player's battery for the first time, completely
discharge it. Then completely charge the battery. This is the only way
to gain full battery capacity.
Use the ON/OFF Switch at the top to switch the player on.
Connect the MP3 player to your PC or to your USB hub using the USB
cable.
Charging begins automatically. Always charge the battery completely
(see battery symbol in the display).
The player keys do not function during recharging.
When charging, please insure that the player has been
switch on.

The player’s battery life is influenced by play volume; battery
life is decreased significantly by loud playback.
3.5 Transferring files MP3 player - PC
Use the ON/OFF Switch at the top to switch the player on.
Connect the MP3 player to your PC using the supplied USB cable.
Open the Windows Explorer or double-click My Computer.
Select folders or files to be transferred and drag them to the removable
data storage symbol of the MP3 player (download to root directory). It
is possible to create different folders for the classification of your file
types in the player memory beforehand and then to save the relevant
files to them.
Once the transmission is complete, click the MP3 player symbol and
check whether the files were completely copied.
Following the same procedure, you can also copy files from the MP3
player to the PC (upload).
The MP3-Player offers two different USB Modes, which can be choosen
by pressing the MENU key when connected to a computer.

MSC Mode MTP Mode

Please note that the player cannot recognize DRM files
when switched to the MSC Mode
When switched to the MTP Mode, the player will create the
folders "Medien and Daten" automatically. More folders can
be created using the Windows Media Player.
PLease note that the device's main directory can only control a
maximun of 150 entries (Folders and Files). If you wish to save
more titels then you will have to create sub-folders. In these sub-
folders you can save as many files as you deem necessary.
The device creates automatically a folder using the file
format "DIR". Voice recordings which were created by the
device using the file format WAV can be found in this folder.

Please do not use this folder to save MP3 or WMA files.
Formatting the Flash Memory
Using the PC operating system:
Open Windows Explorer and right click on the player’s removable data
storage symbol. Then click on the Format option in the context menu.
With the player only:
Use the Sys Tools menu within the setup mode as described in
chapter 4.6.
You can also use your MP3 player to transport all types of
files.
Never disconnect the USB cable from your MP3 player during
a data transfer or formatting.
PLease note that the device's main directory can only control a
maximun of 150 entries (Folders and Files). If you wish to save
more titels then you will have to create sub-folders. In these sub-
folders you can save as many files as you deem necessary.
Please note that only WAV files using IMADPCM coding can
be used when in the voice playback mode. Please use the
Music Playback mode to playback MP2 and WMA files.

The device creates automatically a folder using the file

device using the file format WAV can be found in this folder.
Please do not use this folder to save MP3 or WMA files.

3.6 DRM Protected Files
What is a DRM file?
DRM stands for “Digital Rights Management”. WMA files that are
legally downloaded from the internet are generally protected by DRM.
These files contain a license that directs how the file may be used. All
licenses are controlled by the Windows Media® Player (version 9.0
and higher). In order to play DRM protected files, the Windows Media®
Player must be used.
Which Windows Media® Player Version is installed on my
computer?
Open the Windows Media® Player installed on your computer, click
the question mark located on the menu bar and select “INFO”. The
Windows Media® Player version will appear in the next window.
Windows Media® Player is free and can be downloaded from the
internet. We recommend using Windows Media® Player Version 10.0.
Using DRM Protected Files
Open the Windows Media® Player and click on the synchronization
button. Browse through your computer and select a DRM protected
file. Use your mouse to move the file, per drag and drop, to the left
area of the Windows Media® Player window, the file should appear. If
the MP3 Player is already connected to the PC, you may select the
track you would like to play. If not, connect the MP3 Player at this time
and press the F5 key. Click “START SYNCHRONIZATION” to start
transferring the files.
Insure that the player is in the DRM-MTP mode. When in the DRM-
MTP mode and connected to a computer, the display will show MTP
twice. Should MSC (Removable Disk Mode) be shown in the
display, transfering DRM secured files to the player is not possible.

Note: To view the license information, right click the selected file and
click on “PROPERTIES”.
Copying an Audio CD
Select “COPY” from the Windows Media® Player menu. All tracks
must me copied to the PC when using the Windows Media® Player.
The tracks should appear in the lower portion of the selected directory
and can be copied to the MP3 Player.

3.7 Disable the MP3 Player from the PC
Disable the digital MP3 player from the operating system correctly
using the “Remove Hardware Safely” option .
Click the task bar on the right-hand side below the symbol and select
the “Remove USB Mass Storage Device – Drive (X:)” in the following
dialog window.
Then the message now appears that the hardware can be removed.
When using Windows 98SE, does not appear in the task
bar. Once the data has been completely transferred, simply
remove the USB cable.

4 Operation
4.1 Switching the MP3 player on and off
Switching the MP3 player on
Use the ON/OFF Switch at the top to switch the player on.
Hold the PLAY key down for approx. one second until the Display
illuminates and a greeting is displayed. The MP3 player is now in
stop status.
If the device does not turn on, please load the battery using the USB
connection.
Mode Switch in the Main Menu
Press the MENU key of the turned-
on player for approx. 1 sec. to
switch to the main menu. Use the
main menu to access the various
operation modes and player
settings: Music, Photo, Video,
Voice, Setup and File.
Use the keys to select the
desired option and confirm using
the PLAY key.
The keys are also used in the
sub-menus to select the desired
option and confirm with PLAY. (Exception: File Function, see chapter
4.8)
To revert to the main menu, press the MENU key for approx. 1
second.

Switching the MP3 player off
Press and hold the PLAY key for approximately three seconds until the
Display illumination deactivates. This is true irrespective of the current
operating state of the player.
If not to be used for longer periods, switch the player off
using the main switch, otherwise the batteries may discharge
quickly.
4.2 Music Mode

Playback, forwards/back, pause, stop
Insert one set of headphones in the headphone connections and turn the
player on. The player is now in stop status.
Press the PLAY button to play the track showed. The track information
(ID3 tag) is scrolled on the Display.
Press the PLAY button briefly to pause playback. To resume play,
press the PLAY key again (resume function).
Press and hold the keys during play to skip forwards or back
within the track.
During play, press the PLAY button for 1-2 seconds to stop play
(STOP) and to go back to the start of the track.
If you briefly press the keys during play, pause or stop the
display switches to the next or previous track respectively.
Setting the volume
Press for 1 second and then to increase/decrease the
volume. While doing so, the symbol is green . To exit the settings
mode, press and hold the key for a longer period of time. The
volume has 33 settings (0…32).

Repeat mode
While in music playback, pause or stop state, briefly press the MENU
button and use to select the Repeat mode (Repeat).
Briefly press PLAY to switch to the Repeat sub-menu.
Use to select the desired mode
Confirm using the PLAY button again.
No Repeat: All files are repeated once in the original sequence.
Repeat One: Repeats the current file multiple times.
Repeat All: All files are repeated multiple times in the original
sequence.
RandomAll: Repeats all files multiple times in random order.
Folder Normal:Repeats all files of the current directory once in the
original sequence.
Folder Repeat: Repeats all files of the current directory multiple times
in the original sequence.
Folder Random: Repeats all files of the current directory multiple times
in random order.
Equalizer settings (EQ)
While in music playback, pause or stop state, briefly press the MENU
button and use to select the equalizer mode (EQ).
Briefly press PLAY to switch to the Equalizer sub-menu.
Use to select the desired sound (Normal, Pop, Rock, Classic,
Jazz, Bass, Custom EQ).
Confirm using the PLAY button again.

Lyric Function
Your player supports synchronous lyric display when playing MP3
files. The file name of the separate lyric files (*.lrc) must coincide with
the file name of the relevant mp3 file (*.mp3) and the lyric file must be
in the same folder.
Playback Speed (Play Rate)
Briefly press the MENU key and
select the menu for setting the play
rate using .
Briefly press PLAY to switch to the
sub-menu.
Using you can select the
desired play rate
(1.00X, 1.14X, 1.33X, 0.67X, 0.80X).
Confirm using the PLAY button again.
Searching for files (Folder)
Briefly press the MENU button and select the menu for direct selection
of files (Folder) using .
Briefly press PLAY to switch to the sub-menu.
Use to navigate through the folder structure and search for the
desired file. Press the PLAY button to open a folder.
Confirm using the PLAY button again to select and play the desired
music file.
