4.3 Storage
Store the product in a dry, enclosed room with sufficient air circulation and protection from external influences.
Specific information about storage conditions: see page40.
Maintain sufficient clearance from sources of heat.
Direct exposure to sunlight or UV radiation causes materials to harden and the product to age more quickly. When
storing the product, do not expose it to direct sunlight or UV light.
5 Preparing the product for use
5.1 Assembly
5.1.1 Attaching/detaching the seating unit
CAUTION
Failure to secure the seating unit when attaching it
User falling, tipping or falling out of the seating unit due to it not being secured or parts coming loose
►Before attaching and removing the seating unit and before the user gets in or out, always engage the wheel
lock on the outdoor mobility base/seating shell mobility base. Check the braking function.
►When attaching the seating unit, always make sure it engages audibly in the outdoor mobility base/seating
shell mobility base.
►Secure the seating unit using the seat lock.
NOTICE
Unfolded lateral support pads when attaching, detaching or adjusting the seating unit
Damage to the covers due to excessive wear
►When detaching, attaching or adjusting the product, fold the lateral supports in so that they do not come into
contact with the outdoor mobility base.
a) Setting the direction the seating unit faces
The seating unit may face in one of two directions when mounted on the outdoor mobility base/seating shell mobil
ity base:
• In the direction of travel (see fig.1, example for Kimba outdoor mobility base)
• Opposite to the direction of travel (see fig.2, example for Kimba outdoor mobility base)

b) Attaching the seating unit
1) First place the seating unit on the rear tube of the seat adapter at an angle of approx.45° (see fig.3).
2) Press the front edge of the seat onto the mobility base until the retaining claw audibly snaps on to the front tube
of the seat adapter (see fig.4).
3) Slide the seat lock to the left to engage it (see fig.5, item1). The green symbol shows that the seating unit is
locked (see fig.5, item2).
4) Check that the seating unit and the outdoor mobility base are securely connected by pulling back the back sup
port.
→The seating unit should remain firmly attached to the outdoor mobility base.

c) Detaching the seating unit
1) Move the seating unit to an upright position (see the instructions for use (user)).
2) To open the seat lock, slide it to the right (see fig.6, item1). The red symbol indicates that the seat lock is
open (see fig.6, item2).
3) Stand next to the seating unit and hold the upper area of the back support with one hand.
4) Pull the release lever located below the seating unit upwards (see fig.7, item1).
5) Tilt the seat backwards (see fig.7, item2) at an angle of approx.45° and then lift it up and out.

5.1.2 Mounting the padding
INFORMATION
►If necessary: Before attaching the back support pads, all required components have to be installed on the
frame tubes of the back support insert. First mount the canopy adapters (see page28) and pads, only then
the back support pads.
►Adjust the seating unit prior to mounting the back support pads (see page31 ff).
►If the product was ordered without padding, please note the information in the section “Delivery without
padding” (see page29).
a) Attaching the back support pad
1) Open the zip on the pad.
2) Pull the top of the pad over the back support and close the zip (see fig.8).
3) Pull the lower end of the pad through between the back support and seat bottom. Slide the eyelets onto the
rotary swivels and close the twist locks (see fig.9).
4) If necessary: Push the back support pad under the supports at the sides (not illustrated).
b) Attaching the seat pad
1) Attach the pad with the hook-and-loop fastener (see fig.10).
2) Push the seat pad under the supports at the sides (see fig.11, item1).
3) Attach the rubber bands on the left and right sides of the leg support (see fig.11, item2).

6.1 Headrests
6.1.1 Head support pads, adjustable laterally
INFORMATION
The back support cover should first be removed to make the installation tasks described below easier.
1) Open the zip at the top of the pad (see fig.8) and fold the back support pad forward.
2) Guide each of the mounting screws from the front through the slotted hole in the lateral head support and
through the bore hole in the back support (see fig.12, item1). The pointed sides of the support pads face
down, the rounded sides face up.
3) Place the knurled nuts on the screws on the rear of the back support and slightly tighten them.
4) Adjust the distance of the lateral head supports if needed (see page32).
5) Tighten the knurled nuts.
6) Put the back support pad back on and close the zip at the top of the pad (see fig.8). Pull the lateral head sup
ports through the pad while doing so.

6.1.2 Integrated head support with slight lateral support
Assembly is done at the factory following receipt of an order.
The width of the head section can be adjusted: see page33.
6.1.3 Head support, individually adjustable
INFORMATION
To adjust the head support: see page33.
INFORMATION
The option "head support, individually adjustable" is used in combination with a short back support.
6.1.3.1 Mounting the head support
The support is mounted on a head support holder (see fig.18):
1) Loosen and remove the Allen head screws (see fig.13, no.1) on the adapter (see fig.13, no.2) on the back of
the support.
2) Insert the ball joint head (see fig.14, no.1) of the head support holder with the shaped plate (see fig.14,
no.2) in the adapter.
3) Align the shaped plate so the bore holes of the shaped plate and the adapter are in a straight line (see fig.13,
see fig.14).
4) Insert and tighten the Allen head screws to 5Nm.
5) Check that the support is securely attached.
INFORMATION: For information on adjusting the angle of inclination, see page33.

6.1.3.2 Mounting the head support holder
1) Insert the mounting screws through the bore holes in the back support and the head support holder.
2) Place the cap nuts on the reverse side.
3) Tighten the screw connections (see fig.15).
6.1.3.3 Mounting an additional connecting bridge
An additional connecting bridge may have to be installed to achieve anatomically correct support for the head.
1) Loosen the mounting screws on the back support and head support holder (see fig.15).
2) Unscrew the head support holder from the connecting bridge and attach it to the additional connecting bridge
(see fig.16, item1).
3) Push the connecting bridges together (see fig.16, item2).
4) Put on a washer (see fig.17, item1) and screw the connecting bridges together using the thumbscrew (see
fig.18, item1).
5) Mount the assembly on the back support (see page11).

6.2 Positioning belts
CAUTION
Incorrect approach to the adjustment process
Injuries, malpositions, user discomfort due to adjustment errors
►The belt system may only be installed by qualified personnel.
►The qualified personnel is responsible for the individual positioning and fitting of the belt system.
►Adjusting the belt system too tightly may lead to unnecessary pain or user discomfort.
►Adjusting the belt system too loosely can cause the user to slide into a dangerous position. In addition, the
fastening snaps could open unintentionally if they slide against hard parts of clothing (e.g.buttons).
►For proper installation and adjustment, follow the instructions for use included with the product.
6.2.1 Strap guide
For improved belt guidance in the pelvic area, strap guides can be installed with the following options:
• Lap belt of the five-point belt
• Lap belt of the four-point belt
1) Attach the strap guide at the small bore hole on the inside of the rear seat frame (see fig.19, item1).
2) Guide the screw through the small bore hole from the outside (see fig.19, item2) and screw it into the strap
guide.
3) Put on the washer and cap nut from the inside. Do not fully tighten yet.
4) Take hold of the D-ring (see fig.19, item3).
5) Twist the D-ring inwards until it lies over the large bore hole (see fig.19, item4).
6) Tighten the washer and cap nut.

6.2.2 Lap belts
6.2.2.1 Two-point lap belt with metal buckle, padded

Mounting the 2-point lap belt
1) Close the belt buckle and pull out the belt (see fig.21, no.1).
INFORMATION: Make sure not to push the plastic part beyond the guide in the metal part.
2) Pull the plastic loop off the belt (see fig.21, no.2).
3) Pull a belt pad (see fig.20, no.3) off the belt. The belt is now ready for mounting (see fig.22).
4) Place the belt on the seat. Take the end of the belt (see fig.23, no.1) and thread it between the seat bottom
and hip support to the outside of the seat (see fig.23, no.2).
5) Thread the end of the belt through the large bore holes in the base frame (see fig.23, no.3; see fig.24, no.1).
6) Thread the end of the belt to the front between the seat bottom and hip support (see fig.24, no.2).
7) Slide the plastic loop (see fig.20, no.2) and the belt pad (see fig.20, no.3) onto the belt.
8) Pull the end of the belt through the buckle (see fig.21, no.1).
→If the buckle (see fig.20, no.4) can be closed when it lies in the centre of the seat, the lap belt has been moun
ted properly.

Mounting the two-point lap belt
1) Mount the three-slot mounting brackets (see fig.25, item3) at the bore holes on the bottom of the seat plate
(see fig.26).
INFORMATION: It should be possible to turn the three-slot mounting brackets with some resistance if
needed.
2) Turn the three-slot mounting brackets to the outside.
3) Lay the two-point lap belt on the seat.
4) Guide the ends of the belt sideways under the hip supports (see fig.27, item1).
With adjustable arm supports: Guide the belt ends behind the arm support holder (see fig.27, item1).
5) Thread the ends of the belt through the three-slot mounting brackets (see fig.28). Adjust the belt length and
tighten the belt.
6) If necessary, cut off protruding belt ends and seal the loose ends by applying heat (e.g.with a lighter).

Mounting the four-point lap belt
1) Mount the three-slot mounting brackets (see fig.29, item5) at the bore holes on the bottom of the seat plate
(see fig.30).
INFORMATION: It should be possible to turn the three-slot mounting brackets with some resistance if
needed.
2) Turn the three-slot mounting brackets (see fig.29, item5) to the outside.
3) Lay the four-point lap belt on the seat.
4) Guide the upper belts (see fig.29, item2) sideways under the hip supports (see fig.31, item1).
With adjustable arm supports: Guide the upper belts behind the arm support holder (see fig.31, item1).
5) Guide the support straps (see fig.29, item3) sideways under the hip supports a few centimetres in front of
the upper belts as well (see fig.31, item2).
With adjustable arm supports: Route the support straps (3) in front of the arm support attachment (not illus
trated).
6) Thread the ends of the belt through the three-slot mounting brackets (see fig.28). Adjust the belt length and
tighten the belt.
7) If necessary, cut off protruding belt ends and seal the loose ends by applying heat (e.g.with a lighter).

Mounting the groin strap
1) Rivet the clips in the bore holes of the back support frame (see fig.33, item1).
2) Place the groin strap, underside down (see fig.32, item1), on the seat pad; the attachment straps with the
eyelets (see fig.32, item2) must face to the rear.
3) Thread the belt ends of the long attachment strap (see fig.32, item4) around the back support to the rear and
secure them in the clips (see fig.34, item1).
4) Thread the attachment straps with eyelets (see fig.32, item2) between the back support and seat bottom to
the rear and secure them under the seat bottom (see fig.33, item2; see fig.34). Use the screws and wing nuts
to adjust the seat depth and seat width.
5) If necessary, cut off protruding belt ends of the long attachment strap and seal the loose ends by applying heat
(e.g. with a lighter).

1) Rivet the clips (see fig.35, item1) in the bore holes of the back support frame (see fig.36).
2) Thread the shoulder harness (see fig.35, item2) through the back support pad and back support (see fig.38;
see fig.37).
3) Attach the shoulder harness in the clips (see fig.37, item1).
4) If necessary, cut off protruding belt ends of the shoulder harness and seal the loose ends by applying heat
(e.g.with a lighter).
5) Mount the lap belt (see fig.35, item4) (see page13).
INFORMATION: Assembly of the lap belt component with strap guides is possible as an alternative.
To do so, see the next section under "b) Mounting lap belts".
→If the buckle (see fig.35, item7) can be closed when it lies in the centre of the seat, the four-point belt has
been mounted properly.

a) Mounting the shoulder harness
1) Rivet the clips (see fig.39, item1) in the bore holes of the back support frame (see fig.36, item1).
2) Thread the shoulder harness (see fig.39, item2) through the back support pad and back support (see fig.38).
3) Attach the shoulder harness in the clips at the rear (see fig.37, item1).
b) Mounting lap belts
INFORMATION
The following section describes how to assemble the lap belt component with strap guides. Alternatively, the lap
belt can also be passed through the large bore holes in the base frame. To do so, see the section for assembly of
the two-point lap belt with metal buckle (see page13).
1) Mount the loose strap guide on the right (see fig.39, item4) (see page12).
2) Thread the right lap belt (see fig.39, item5) through the connection piece to the rear between the seat and
back support.
3) Thread the right lap belt through the strap guide and let it hang down (see fig.40).
4) Thread the left lap belt (see fig.39, item5) through the connection piece to the rear between the seat and back
support.
5) Mount the fixed strap guide (see fig.39, item6) (see page12).
6) Guide the right lap belt through the plastic loop (see fig.39, item7).
7) Press the belt buckle on the left end of the lap belt together (see fig.39, item8) and thread the right lap belt
(see fig.39, item5) through the buckle behind the seat (see fig.41, see fig.42, see fig.43).
INFORMATION: Make sure not to push the plastic part beyond the guide in the metal part.
8) Finally, thread the right lap belt through the plastic loop again.
