GETTING STARTED
Thank you for purchasing Hunter Douglas Pirouette®Window Shadings with SoftTouch®
Motorization. With proper installation, operation, and care, your new shadings will provide
years of beauty and performance.
Please thoroughly review this instruction booklet and the enclosed packing list before
beginning the installation.
Tools and Fasteners Needed

Important Operating Note
If a shading has been fully lowered with the vanes open for a long period of time,
the vanes may become “set” — they may not easily close or flatten. This is a normal
characteristic of fabric products.
If this happens, move the shading up and down to coax the vanes as closed as possible.
If necessary, gently pull down on the lowest operable vane. You may also dress the vanes
gently with your hands to help them close. Then roll up the shading slowly to flatten the
vanes. Allow the fabric to remain in the headrail for up to 24 hours.
To prevent vane set, regularly “exercise” the shading by raising and lowering it and
opening and closing the vanes.

Installation Overview
To install your shading, you will need to perform the following four steps:
STEP 1: Install the Brackets
STEP 2: Connect the Battery Wand, If Applicable
STEP 3: Install the Shading
STEP 4: Connect the Power Source, If Applicable
STEP 1 — Install the Brackets
■ Your order will include the correct number of installation brackets for your shading width,
as shown in the table below.
■ Shading orders may also include spacer blocks or extension brackets, if they were
specified for added clearance.
Mounting Types and Window Terminology
If the installation brackets are mounted correctly, the rest of the installation process follows
easily. To prepare for this important first step, review the mounting types and basic window
terminology illustrated below.

Mount the Installation Brackets — Inside Mount
If Using the Optional Back Cover ...
■ Remove the top tab on the back cover brackets.
■ Snap each back cover bracket into a metal
installation bracket.
Mount the Installation Brackets
■ Mark 2" from each jamb for bracket location.
➤ If more than two installation brackets came with your order, space additional
bracket(s) evenly between the two end brackets and mark their location. Mount into
wood whenever possible. Allow a minimum of 20" from the motor side for the
battery wand/rechargeable battery wand.
NOTE: Before the headrail is installed, the bracket levers need to be fully to the left. Once
the headrail is properly in place, the levers automatically click to the right.

■ Center the brackets on your marks and mark the location of the screw holes.
➤ The minimum casement depth required for
installation brackets is 1" (1

■ Use a level to check that the mounting surface is level.

■ Drill the screw holes using a

CAUTION: Use drywall anchors when mounting
into drywall.
■ Attach the installation brackets using the screws provided.
IMPORTANT: Do not overtighten the screws. Check
to ensure the bracket lever can be moved easily side
to side. If not, loosen the screws in one-eighth turn
increments until the lever can be moved easily.
IMPORTANT: The front edges of the installation
brackets must be level and aligned to each other.
Install the Optional Back Cover
■ Install the cover into the back cover brackets.
■ If necessary, trim the back cover to the desired width.

Mount the Installation Brackets — Outside Mount
Mount the Installation Brackets
■ Center the headrail over the window opening at the desired height. Use a pencil to lightly
mark the wall at each end of the headrail.
➤ Alternatively, measure the width of the headrail and use that width to mark the
headrail end points over the window opening.
■ Mark 2" from each end of theheadrail.
➤ If more than two installation brackets came with your order, space additional
bracket(s) evenly between the two end brackets and mark their location. Mount into
wood whenever possible. Allow a minimum of 20" from the motor side for the
battery wand/rechargeable battery wand.
NOTE: Before the headrail is installed, the bracket levers need to be fully to the left.
Once the headrail is properly in place, the levers automatically click to the right.
■ Center the installation brackets or extension brackets on your marks and mark where to

➤ A minimum 1" flat vertical surface isrequired for the installation brackets. Extension

CAUTION: The rear of the brackets must be flush against a flat mounting surface. Do not
mount brackets on curved molding.

Mount the Installation Brackets — End Mount
End mount the headrail when conventional mounting techniques will not work — for example,
in an arched window opening.
Mount the Extension and Installation Brackets
■ Mount extension brackets to each side of the opening at the desired height of the shading.
➤ The mounting surface must be vertical and flat, not part of an arched curve.
➤ Minimum mounting surface width with a built-in battery wand is 2
1
⁄ 8 ".
➤ Minimum mounting surface width with a staellite battery pack and 18V DC Power
Supply is 1", and 1
1
⁄ 2 " for rechargeable battery wand.
■ Attach the installation brackets to the extension
brackets using the provided screws and speed nuts.
WARNING: To end mount shadings into a
surface other than a secure wall stud, use
medium to heavy-duty wall anchors (not
provided) matched to the wall thickness.
Failure to mount the brackets securely may
result in injury or property damage.
Install the Optional Back Cover
■ Remove the top tab on the back cover brackets. See
“If Using the Optional Back Cover ...” on page 4.
■ Install the cover into the back cover brackets.
■ If necessary, trim the back cover to the desired width.
Proceed to “STEP 2 — Connect the Battery Wand, If Applicable”
on page 9.

STEP 2 — Connect the Battery Wand/Mount, If Applicable
For the headrail-mounted battery wand and rechargeable battery wand, battery wand clips
and battery wand/rechargeable battery mounts are installed before the shading is installed.
Any other power options, the power source will be connected after the shading is installed.
Headrail-Mounted Battery Wand
Plug the Power Cable into the Battery Wand
■ From the back of the shading headrail, connect the power cable from the motor side into
the socket on the battery wand.
NOTE: When power is connected to the motor, a green LED in the bottom of the control
side end cap will flash to indicate the shading is ready for operation.
Mount the Battery Wand into the Battery Wand Clip
■ Push the battery wand into the battery wand clip until it snaps into place. Check to make
sure the battery wand is secure.
CAUTION: Be sure the cable does not become pinched by the battery wand clip during
installation. Damage or overheating of components could result.
Proceed to “STEP 3 — Install the Shading” on page 11.

Headrail-Mounted Rechargeable Battery Wand
Install the Rechargeable Battery Wand Clips
■ Attach the battery wand clips to the headrail.
■ Hook the battery wand clip onto the back channel of the headrail.
IMPORTANT: Position the clip so that the battery wand will be between
installation brackets.
Install the Rechargeable Battery Mount into the Battery Wand Clips
■ From the back of the shading headrail, connect the power cable from the motor side into
the socket on the rechargeable battery mount.
■ Align the slots in the battery mount with the battery wand clips.
■ Push the battery mount onto the battery wand clips until it snaps into place. Check to
make sure the battery mount is secure.
CAUTION: Be sure the cable does not become pinched by the battery wand clips during
installation. Damage or overheating of components could result.
NOTE: Do not install the rechargeable battery wand into the battery mount before
installing the shading. See "STEP 4: Connect the Power Source — Headrail-Mounted
Rechargeable Battery Wand" on page 13 for instructions on inserting the battery wand
into the battery mount.

STEP 3 — Install the Shading
IMPORTANT: Leave the protective film on the fabric-covered headrail until you are satisfied
with the installation and operation of your shading.
■ Ensure that each lever is pushed
to the left side of the bracket
before installing the shading.
■ Position the shading so that
the front faces you.
■ Slide the headrail into the installation
brackets so the edge of the headrail is between
the lever and the bracket, as shown.
■ Firmly push the headrail into each bracket until it clicks and
the lever snaps to the right side of the bracket.
IMPORTANT: Carefully pull on the headrail at each bracket to
ensure it is installed securely.
■ Remove the protective film from the fabric-covered headrail.
Attach the Dust Cover (Optional for Outside Mounts)
The dust cover is used to protect the top of the headrail from exposure on outside mounted
shadings.
■ Cut the dust cover to desired width.
■ Remove the paper backing on one side of the hook and loop
fastener dots.
■ Apply the dots to the installation brackets on each end of the shadings.
■ Remove the remaining paper backing from the dots.
■ Center the dust cover over the top of the shading, above the previously placed dots.
■ Press the dust cover down onto the dots.

STEP 4 — Connect the Power Source, If Applicable
If you have attached the battery wand in step 2, proceed to “Unpack the Wand and Attach to
Activation Arm” on page 17.
NOTE: When power is connected to the motor, a green LED in the bottom of the control side
end cap will flash to indicate the shading is ready for operation.
■ Refer to the appropriate page based on your order.
➤ For a an optional satellite battery pack, see below.
➤ For an optional headrail-mounted rechargeable battery wand, see page 13.

If You Have an Optional Satellite Battery Pack...
Mount the Satellite Battery Pack
■ Decide where you want to mount the satellite battery pack. A satellite battery pack may
be mounted in any orientation.
■ Mark the screw holes for the wall mount bracket.
■ Drill the screw holes using a
3
⁄ 32 " drill bit.
■ Remove the backing from the double-sided tape. Press the
bracket into place.
■ Attach the bracket using the screws provided.
■ Position the battery wand so the power cable is easily connected to the socket.
■ Snap the battery wand into the wall mount bracket.
■ Install the battery wand cover with the slot aligned to the socket in the battery wand.

■ Plug the power cable from the shading
into the satellite battery pack cable.
■ Plug the other end of the cable into the
socket in the battery wand.
■ Secure the extension cable using wire
retainers (not supplied).
Proceed to “Unpack the Wand and Attach to Activation Arm” on page 17.
Headrail-Mounted Rechargeable Battery Wand
Insert the Rechargeable Battery Wand into the Battery Mount
NOTE: The rechargeable battery wand ships fully charged so it is ready to install out of the
package.
■ Match the direction of the arrow on the underside of the battery wand with the arrow on
the battery mount.
■ Insert the nose of the battery wand into the cavity of the battery mount.
■ Push the battery wand flush into the mount until the battery snaps into place.
CAUTION: Failing to insert wand properly may cause it to fall out of the mount, posing an
injury risk and potentially damaging the wand. Additionally, when mounting on a door, closing
the door with excess force may cause battery wand to dislodge from the mount, also posing
an injury risk and possibly damaging the wand.
Proceed to “Unpack the Wand and Attach to Activation Arm” on page 17.

Satellite-Mounted Rechargeable Battery Wand
Install the Rechargeable Battery Mount
■ Decide where you want to install the rechargeable battery mount. This may be mounted
behind the headrail, or in any desired location near the window covering. A satellite
battery mount may be installed in any orientation.
➤ Make sure the provided cable is long enough to connect the satellite battery mount
and the shading.
CAUTION: The rear of the battery mount must be flush against a flat mounting surface.
Do not install brackets on a curved molding.
■ Mark the screw holes.
■ Drill the screw holes using a
3
⁄ 32 " drill bit.
■ Attach the battery mount using the screws provided.
CAUTION: Only use the screws provided with the battery mount, designed so that the
screws will install flush with the mount. Protrusion of the screws could result in either the
battery wand not attaching properly causing a failure to connect, or the wand falling out
of the mount. Do not over-tighten the screw.
■ Connect the power cable from the motor side into the power socket on the rechargeable
battery mount.
NOTE: With longer cables, wire retainers (not supplied) are recommended to secure the cable.

Insert the Battery Wand into the Battery Mount

If You Have an Optional 18V DC Power Supply...
Connect the Power Supply
■ Plug the power cable from the shading
into the extension cable.
■ Plug the other end of the extension
cable into the 18V DC Power Supply.
■ Plug the 18V DC Power Supply into a
standard outlet.
■ Secure the extension cable using wire
retainers (not supplied). If hiding the
cable behind the shading, make sure
it does not impede the operation of
theshading.
■ Space the wire retainers approximately
15" apart along the power supply cable,
as shown.
WARNING: Keep cables and
small parts out of the reach
of children. They can wrap
cables around their necks and
STRANGLE. They can also put
small parts in their mouths and
CHOKE.
WARNING: Electric shock and/
or a fire hazard may occur, if not
properly installed.

If You Have an Optional 18V DC Power Supply with Daisy-Chain Connections...
The daisy-chain feature allows up to three SoftTouch®Motorization shadings to be powered
by a single 18V DC Power Supply. However, each shading can operate independently. The
daisy-chain feature is only available with the 18V DC Power Supply option.
■ Route the power cables from each shading to the connector. Use extension cables of
appropriate length to connect the power cables.
■ Plug an extension cable into the connector and plug the cable into the 18V DC Power
Supply. Two extension cables and two connectors are used for three shadings.
■ Plug the 18V DC Power Supply into a standard outlet.

■ Attach the top of the wand (magnet side) to the activation arm.

Basic Operation
To Lower the Shading
■ Briefly pull the wand down to move the shading in the
down/closed direction.
■ The shading will move to the fully closed position.
To Open the Vanes
■ With the shading fully lowered, briefly pull the wand
down to open the vanes.
To Close the Vanes
■ With the shading fully lowered and vanes open,
briefly push the wand up to close the vanes.
To Raise the Shading
■ Briefly push the wand up to move the shading in
the up/open direction.
■ The shading will move to the fully open position.
To Stop the Shading
■ While the shading is motion, pull down (or push
up) the wand and release to stop shading or vane
movement anywhere along its travel.
