1. LETTER OPENER INTRODUCTION
1.1 General Information
Both models are high speed milling cutter letter openers, capable of opening up to 40,000
envelopes per hour depending on the length and thickness of the envelope. The letter
opener opens the envelopes one at a time by milling off one side of the envelope and can
be delivered with counter. New is a third black feed belt, included to improve feed
alignment for large envelopes.
The model 3063 /IM-20 stacks the opened envelopes at the tray placed on the table at the
right hand side panel. The Model 3073/IM-25 transports the opened envelopes back to the
operator with the Conveyor. This allows the operator to continuously feed envelopes
without moving or stopping the machine. This letter opener can be delivered with a
variable speed, making it possible to change the speed of the envelopes passing through
the machine.
1.2 Setting Up
Your new Letter Opener will need some setup before you can begin use. Please see the
following page for instruction on assembling Waste Tube, Waste Bin and Table/Stand, all of
which are found at the bottom of the shipping container.

1.3 Routine Maintenance
It is a good idea to routinely clean on and around the machine, brush off the machine on
the exterior surfaces and empty Waste Bin regularly. As the feed belts collect dirt and
dust, the operator should clean with a mild cleaning solution as needed. This will prolong
the life of the machine as well as maintain optimum performance. Cleaning the flat red
Poly-V belt is not recommended and could cause damage to the belt and/or the letter
opener.

3. FEATURES OF YOUR LETTER OPENER
3.1 Control Panel
A- Cut/No-Cut Switch (Optional) – Allows operator to
turn opening function of Letter Opener on or off
B- Main Power Switch – Depressing to the ON “|”
position and toggling the Reset Switch will activate
machine.
C- Reset Switch – Must be toggled whenever machine
is restarted.
D- Variable Speed Dial (Optional) – Variable speed is useful for slowing down the
envelopes passing through the milling cutter. The dial on top of the machine controls the
speed, allowing for a range of speeds from 40 to 100 percent of full speed. This is a
helpful option for those users opening a range of envelope sizes at the same time.
3.2 Envelope feeding
To ensure your envelopes contents are not
damaged, and to prevent jamming, it is
recommended that you prepare the envelopes
before opening as shown. Stack Envelopes with
all flaps facedown and pointing away from the
operator. Fan the stack so that the leading edge
of the bottom envelope is protruding from the
stack, as seen in the following figures.
3.3 Letter-Sized Envelopes
Loosening the thumbscrews on the end of the
machine and sliding the left end up aides in
stacking of envelopes for consistent feed. Once
desired height is reached simply tighten
thumbscrews and begin opening.

3.4 Large Envelopes & Flats
Folding the tray open allows easy feeding
and support of large envelopes and mailing
flats.
3.5 Thick envelopes and flats
Most envelope sizes are fed automatically, requiring the operator to merely add and
remove the mail. For a few thick envelopes, it may be required for the operator to lightly
press on stack to help feed the envelopes. However, if a majority of the envelopes are
thick, the operator may have to adjust the machine settings to allow for efficient and
steady feeding and prevent jamming. This procedure can be seen on the following page.
3.6 Adjusting Foam Holder and Track Finger for Thick and Thin
Envelopes
To perform this step, you will need a small Philips screwdriver. To begin, ensure that the
machine is unplugged, then simply open the Track Cover so that it is freestanding
vertically. In front of the Milling Cutter is a small piece of grey foam, and below that a thin
metal strip. These are the Foam Holder and Track Finger, respectively. The four mounting
screws located above the track finger and Foam Holder will need to be loosened. After
this, simply slide the Foam Holder and Track Finger up as shown. Tighten screws and
make sure area is clear of tools or parts and then close the Track Cover. For thin
envelopes, it is desirable to have less pressure on the envelope at the Foam Holder. Too
much pressure on the envelopes may cause them to crumple up. Follow the previous
procedure to lighten the amount of pressure delivered by the Track Finger and Foam
Holder.

3.7 Depth of Cut
The depth of cut is adjustable on the Letter
Opener Model 3063/3073. The cutter is
preset at the factory to the smallest cut
possible. For most operating conditions, the
factory settings should be satisfactory. It is
recommended the depth of cut be tested
with only a handful of envelopes. If
contents are damaged or envelope is not
fully opened, the depth of cut will need to
be adjusted. The cutter can be adjusted by
turning the 4mm Allen nut
counterclockwise until the envelope is not
cut at all and then turn it back clockwise to
increase the cut.
3.8 Milling Cutter / Carbide Insert
The carbide inserts can be used on all four
sides. If they are really worn or no longer
parallel with the cutter, and the cut no
longer is clean, it is time to have the
carbide inserts rotated. Only your dealer
may perform this service.
3.9 Envelope Separation
To ensure only one envelope is fed through the Milling Cutter at a time, preventing
jamming and destruction of envelopes and contents, it is necessary to create a gap
between envelopes when feeding. This is obtained by the Separation Stones, located at
the left-hand end of the Track Cover. For most envelope sizes and thickness the factory
settings should work fine, however if separation does not occur, or if envelopes are not
allowed to pass through, adjustment must be made to these stones. The procedure for
this adjustment may be seen on the following page.

3.10 Separation Stone Adjustment
For this procedure you will need a 5mm
Allen Wrench. For the safety of the
Operator and to prevent damage to the
machine, make sure the machine is
unplugged when performing this step. To
raise the stones up and away from the
feedplate, turn the Allen Head Screws,
located at the right-hand end of the Track
Cover, Clockwise as viewed from above.
Likewise, the stones may be lowered by
turning the adjustment screws Counter-
Clockwise. Raising Separation Stones.
3.11 Track Wheels
Also new to the 3063 and 3073 is an improved Track Wheel with
rubber insert. This insert reduces rolling friction to the wheel
while increasing grip on mail. Because of this, the Track Wheels
should have an extended life over previous models. However,
the user should periodically inspect the track wheels for wear or
noise (The rollers must roll freely and quietly.) If the wheels do
not roll freely, it will be necessary to clean the wheels and
change the felt pieces on both sides. It should only be necessary
to change wheels or felt pieces under continued excessive loads.
3.12 Reverse Flow Conveyor (optional)
The reverse flow conveyor transports the opened envelopes back underneath the
operator’s area, for the operator to collect. The reverse flow conveyor can work in two
ways. Machines with optional counter use the photo sensor, located inside Track Cover, to
control the conveyor. Machines without optional counter use a mechanical switch to
control the conveyor. Both methods use the mail to trigger the conveyor, so that the
conveyor only runs when mail is being fed through the Cutter.

3.13 Counter with Photo Sensor (optional)
The letter opener can be delivered with a counter. The counter
is mounted at the top right side of the letter opener. A reset
button allows the operator to restart the count, or if left alone
the counter will continue to display the count even if the letter
opener is powered off or unplugged.
3.14 The Deflector
Used to reduce skewing of exiting envelopes, the
Deflector is now cut from stainless steel for longer life.
Without the Deflector, envelopes won’t stack neatly.
3.15 Motors
The Letter openers use maintenance-free motors and therefore do not need to be greased
or oiled. Under normal use these motors will operate quietly and effectively for many
years. These motors are thermally protected and need proper ventilation to remain in
operation. To allow for continuous airflow over motors, do not place objects directly behind
vent panels on back of the letter opener.

4. TROUBLESHOOTING
Machine does not start:
• Check that the power cord is securely in place at both the outlet and the back of the
machine.
• Check that the transport cover (under feed and transport belts) is closed.
• Check that the track cover (over transport belt) is closed.
• Turn the ON/OFF Switch to the ON position and press the reset button.
Machine stops and does not restart:
If machine has been running for several hours in a warm environment it is possible the
motors have overheated and shut down to prevent damage. Allow a half-hour for cooling
and restart machine.
If the machine still does not start, you will need to contact your dealer for service.
• Envelope becomes jammed in machine:
• Turn the machine off, and unplug from power supply.
• Lift and open Track Cover to upright position and remove jammed envelopes.
• Check for any remaining debris on belts or track, then close cover
• Re-stack remaining envelopes and plug in and start machine again.
WARNING: Remove ALL staples, paper clips and rubber bands from
mail before opening! Failure to do so will cause damage to the
machine and void your warranty.
If you experience any other troubles with your machine, contact your dealer for further
assistance.

1. PRÉCAUTIONS
Avant d’utiliser cette machine, il convient de lire attentivement les instructions
d’utilisation.
1.1 Avertissement
Avant de connecter la machine, vérifier si elle est adaptée à la tension locale ; se reporter
à la plaque signalétique.
1.2 Précautions de sécurité
L’équipement doit être installé à proximité d’une prise électrique facilement accessible. Le
cordon d’alimentation doit être connecté à une prise mise à la terre. Ne pas renverser de
liquide sur la machine. Les capots et protections ne peuvent être ouverts que par une
personne compétente. Eloigner les cheveux longs, doigts, bijoux, vêtements flottants …
des parties tournantes de la machine. Pour le remplacement des pièces, il est conseillé
d’utiliser des pièces d’origine (contrat de maintenance conseillé). Le système doit être
installé dans des bureaux, salles de service courrier ou autre locaux. Il ne devra en aucun
cas être installé ou entreposé dans des locaux à température ou humidité extrêmes. Le
matériel devra être posé ou stocké horizontalement sur un plan solide et ajusté de niveau.
Une utilisation autre que celle prévue par le fabriquant n’est pas autorisé. En cas de
blessures découlant d’une utilisation anormale (autre que celle décrite dans ce manuel), le
fabriquant décline toute responsabilité.

2. GÉNÉRALITÉS
2.1 Fonctionnement
L'ouvre lettres est un modèle à grande vitesse, utilisant un système d’ouverture par
fraisage sur un côté, capable d'ouvrir jusqu'à 40 000 enveloppes à l'heure, selon la
longueur et l'épaisseur de l'enveloppe. Le modèle IM-20 empile les enveloppes après
ouverture sur un plateau à l’extrémité droit de la machine. Sur le modèle IM-25, les
enveloppes sont ramenées sous le chargeur, côté gauche de la machine. L'ouvre lettres
peut être alimenté en continu sans qu'il soit nécessaire d'arrêter l'appareil.

3. MISE EN SERVICE
3.1 Branchement et mise en marche
Connecter le câble d’alimentation de la machine
à la prise électrique avec mise à la terre. Mettre
l’appareil sous tension en appuyant sur 1
(bouton gauche), puis actionner le bouton de
mise en marche (bouton droit).
3.2 Chargement des enveloppes
Il est conseillé d’orienter le
rabat de l'enveloppe (côté
fermeture) vers le haut et
vers la sortie pour un meilleur
résultat. Prendre les
enveloppes et les taquer sur
une table pour aligner le côté
long, puis les mettre
doucement en éventail avant
de les déposer sur le plan
incliné. Le plateau incliné est
réglable en hauteur et latéralement dans les deux sens de façon à faciliter le chargement
des enveloppes. Il est possible également de le déplacer d'avant en arrière en ouvrant le
capot 2 noir. Desserrer le bouton, régler le plateau incliné et resserrer le bouton, puis
fermer le capot 2. Une fois que le plateau incliné a été réglé, on peut remettre l'appareil
sous tension. En fonctionnement, il suffit d’ajouter les enveloppes sur le chargeur et de
retirer les enveloppes déjà ouvertes. Pour des enveloppes épaisses il faut appuyer
légèrement avec la main sur le haut de la pile.

4. RÉGLAGES ET ENTRETIEN
Toujours débrancher la machine avant toute intervention
d’entretien
4.1 Profondeur de coupe
En sortie d’usine le réglage de la coupe est au minimum, de façon à protéger le contenu
de l’enveloppe. Si les enveloppes sont plus épaisses, il faudra certainement augmenter
légèrement la profondeur de coupe. Le réglage de la profondeur de coupe s’effectue par la
vis à six pans creux, située au dessus de la lame (voir photo ci-dessous).
Pour augmenter la profondeur de coupe :
Tournez la vis dans le sens horaire des aiguilles
d’une montre.
Pour diminuer la profondeur de coupe :
Tournez la vis dans le sens inverse des aiguilles
d’une montre.
Nota : Tester la coupe sur quelques
enveloppes seulement.
Avant de remettre la machine sous tension assurez vous que la
zone de coupe est libre de tout obstacle.
Lame de coupe
La lame a une longue durée de vie, mais il peut parfois être nécessaire de
l'aiguiser. Il faut la renvoyer à l'usine (fabriquant ou distributeur), cela
nécessite un outillage spécifique.
Nettoyage et contrôle par l’opérateur
Débrancher l’alimentation secteur avant de réaliser toute
opération de nettoyage.
Il est conseillé d’effectuer un nettoyage journalier sur les parties extérieures de la
machine au moyen d’un chiffon humide. Une fois par mois, l’intérieur de la machine doit
être aspiré, afin d’éliminer les fragments de papier et de poussière. Pour cela, retirez la
partie centrale du capot arrière de la machine et procédez au nettoyage à l’aide d’un
aspirateur équipé d’une buse plate. Effectuez le remontage du capot arrière avant de
remettre la machine sous tension.

4.2 Dépannage
L’appareil ne se met pas en marche, procéder comme suit :
- Vérifier que le câble d’alimentation est branché et l’appareil est sous tension.
- Appuyer sur le bouton de mise sous tension (position 1).
- Vérifier que le capot 1 est fermé.
- Vérifier que le capot 2 est fermé.
- Appuyer sur le bouton marche.
Si l’appareil ne se met toujours pas en marche, contacter votre SAV.
4.3 Options
4.3.1 Convoyeur
Le convoyeur facilite la récupération et augmente le volume de stockage des enveloppes
ouvertes. Les enveloppes sont convoyées de la droite vers la gauche, sous la zone de
chargement de la machine.
4.3.2 Compteur
Le compteur est situé sur le côté droit supérieur de la machine. La cellule de comptage est
disposée sous le capot 1, elle est constituée de fibre otique, très fragile (ne pas plier).
Nota : Des erreurs de comptage peuvent se produire en fonction de la différence de
couleur des enveloppes.
