2 Beschreibung
2.1 Verwendungszweck
Das Ottobock Schultergelenk 12S4 und das Ottobock Kugelschultergelenk
12S7 ist ausschließlich für die exoprothetische Versorgung der oberen
Extremitäten in Verbindung mit Ottobock Armpassteilen zu verwenden.

2.2 Einsatzgebiet
Das Ottobock Schultergelenk 12S4 und das Ottobock Kugelschulterge-
lenk 12S7 kann beidseitig für Schulterexartikulationen und Schultergürtel-
amputationen eingesetzt werden.
Diese Ottobock Schultergelenke können als Passteil in einer Ottobock
Modular-Prothese verwendet werden.
2.3 Sicherheitshinweise
Bitte geben Sie die nachfolgenden Sicherheitshinweise an Ihre Patienten
weiter:
WARNUNG
Unfallgefahr bei Einsatz in KFZ. Ob und wie weit der Träger einer
Armprothese zum Führen eines Fahrzeugs in der Lage ist, kann pau-
schal nicht beantwortet werden. Dies hängt von der Art der Versorgung
(Amputationshöhe, einseitig oder beidseitig, Stumpfverhältnisse, Bauart
der Prothese) und den individuellen Fähigkeiten des Trägers der Arm-
prothese ab.
Beachten Sie unbedingt die nationalen gesetzlichen Vorschriften zum
Führen eines Kraftfahrzeuges und lassen Sie aus versicherungsrecht-
lichen Gründen Ihre Fahrtüchtigkeit von einer autorisierten Stelle über-
prüfen und bestätigen.

die jeweiligen Bedürfnisse umrüsten zu lassen (z.B. Lenkgabel, Automa-
tikschaltung). Es sollte sichergestellt sein, dass ein risikoloses Fahren,
auch ohne funktionsfähige Prothese möglich ist.
VORSICHT
Verletzungsgefahr durch Überbeanspruchung. Die hier beschriebenen
Ottobock Prothesenpassteile wurden für Alltagsaktivitäten entwickelt und
dürfen nicht für außergewöhnliche Tätigkeiten wie z.B. für Extremsport-
arten (Freiklettern, Paragleiten, etc.) eingesetzt werden.
Sorgfältige Behandlung der Passteile und ihrer Komponenten erhöht
nicht nur deren Lebenserwartung, sondern dient vor allem der Sicher-
heit des Patienten.

Sollten Passteile extremen Belastungen ausgesetzt worden sein (z.B.
durch Sturz), müssen diese umgehend von einem Orthopädie-Techniker
auf Schäden überprüft werden. Ansprechpartner ist der zuständige
Orthopädie-Techniker, der die Prothese ggf. an den Ottobock-Service
weiterleitet.
HINWEIS
Korrosionsgefahr. Prothesenpassteile dürfen nicht Umgebungen aus-
gesetzt werden, die Korrosion an den Metallteilen auslösen, wie z. B.
Süßwasser, Salzwasser und Säuren.
Bei Einsatz eines Medizinproduktes unter diesen Umgebungsbedingungen
erlöschen alle Ersatzansprüche gegen Otto Bock HealthCare.
HINWEIS
Beschädigung durch falsche Umgebungsbedingungen. Prothesen-
passteile dürfen nicht intensivem Rauch oder Staub und nicht Vibra-
tionen, Stößen oder großer Hitze ausgesetzt werden. Es dürfen weder
feste Teilchen noch Flüssigkeiten eindringen. Nichtbeachtung kann zu
Fehlfunktionen und Beschädigungen der Prothese führen.
HINWEIS
Beschädigung durch falsche Reinigungsmittel. Die Verwendung ag-
gressiver Reinigungsmittel ist zu vermeiden. Diese können zu Beschädi-
gungen von Lagern, Dichtungen und Kunststoffteilen führen. Das Produkt
darf nur mit einem feuchten Tuch und milder Seife gereinigt werden.
2.4 Funktion
Die Ottobock Schultergelenke sind in folgenden Ausführungen verfügbar:
12S4 Ottobock Schultergelenk mit Eingussring
12S7 Ottobock Kugelschultergelenk mit Gewindezapfen
Das Ottobock Schultergelenk 12S4 sowie das Ottobock Kugelschulterge-
lenk 12S7 besitzt zwei Freiheitsgrade. Sie ermöglichen Bewegungen der
Anteversion/Retroversion und Abduktion/Adduktion. Die Ottobock Schul-
tergelenke werden über Schienen mit dem Ellbogenpassteil verbunden.

Die Verbindung einer Ottobock Modular-Prothese mit dem Ottobock
Kugelschultergelenk 12S7 ist über den Adapter 10R2 möglich.

4 Handhabung
4.1 Montagevorbereitung
Voraussetzung für die Montage der Ottobock Schultergelenke ist ein gut
passender Innenschaft. Als eventuell benötigter Schulterausgleich ein
Formteil am Innenschaft anbringen.
Um einen Stellungs- und Längenausgleich durchzuführen, ist eine Probe-
montage aller Einzelteile am Innenschaft vorzunehmen.
Bei einer unilateralen Versorgung sind für die Längenbestimmung der Pass-
teile das distale Daumenende und der Drehpunkt des Ellbogengelenkes
ausschlaggebend (Abb. 1).
Bei einer bilateralen Versorgung steht die Funktion der Prothese im Vorder-
grund. Bei der Längenanpassung ist darauf zu achten, dass der Patient ein
hohes Maß an Bewegungsfreiraum durch die Prothese erhält.
Längenänderungen sind bei dem Ottobock Schultergelenk 12S4 durch
Kürzung der Oberarmschienen möglich. Dabei ist zu beachten, dass
vom Schienenende bis zur Mitte der Befestigungsbohrung ein Abstand

Befestigungsschraube.
Beim Ottobock Schultergelenk 12S7 eine Längenänderung nur über das
Ellbogengelenk 12R4=* vornehmen.
Auf den Freischwung des Schultergelenks ist besonders zu achten. Der
Richtwert für den Posterioranschlag liegt bei ca. 10° Retroversion (Abb. 2).

4.2 Montage
INFORMATION
Bei Patienten mit subtotaler Schulterexartikulation wird aus symmetrischen
und kosmetischen Gründen empfohlen, das Schultergelenk distal von
der Schulterhöhe mit etwas Abstand zu montieren.

1) Die Position des Eingussringes auf das Formteil übertragen (Abb. 2).
2)
Den Eingussring innen mit Gipsisoliercreme 640Z5=* bestreichen und mit
Leichtspachtel auffüllen (Abb. 3/4). Die innere Kontur des Eingussringes
durch den Leichtspachtel auf das Schaumformteil übertragen (Abb. 5).

1) Den Schulterbügel individuell durch Schränken und Kürzen anpassen.
Um Beschädigungen des Schulterbügels beim Schränken zu vermeiden,
wird die Verwendung der Schränkeisen 711S4 und 711S5 empfohlen
(Abb. 6/7).
2) Die Position des Schulterbügels auf das Formteil übertragen (Abb. 8).
3) Den Schulterbügel mit Gipsisoliercreme 640Z5=* bestreichen und mit
Leichtspachtel auffüllen (Abb. 9/10). Die innere Kontur des Schulter-
bügels durch den Leichtspachtel auf das Schaumformteil übertragen
(Abb. 11/12).
Herstellung Außenschaft
Die Herstellung eines Außenschaftes wird nachfolgend am Beispiel des
Ottobock Schultergelenkes 12S4 beschrieben:
1) Vor dem Laminieren muss eine Prüfung des Freischwunges und der
Längenanpassung erfolgen.
2) Eingussring bzw. Schulterbügel vom Ottobock Schultergelenk demontieren.
3) Über das Formteil und den Eingussring bzw. Formteil und Schulterbügel
den Außenschaft laminieren. Um eine sichere Kraftübertragung zwischen
Außenschaft und Modular-Armpassteil zu erreichen, im Übergangsbe-
reich Außenschaft – Eingussring bzw. Außenschaft – Schulterbügel das
Carbonfaser-Gewebe 616G12 verwenden (Abb. 13). Im Bereich der Be-
festigungsbohrungen die Eingussplatte mit Bohrung 507S15 verwenden.

4) Nach Aushärtung der Laminierschicht des Außenschaftes die Kappe zur
späteren Befestigung der Schaumkosmetik laminieren. Dies ermöglicht
eine einfache Demontage der Schaumkosmetik beim Einstellen der Friktion
am Ottobock Schultergelenk. Dazu über den Außenschaft drei Lagen
Perlon-Trikotschlauch 623T3=* ziehen. Diese dienen als Abstandshalter
zwischen Außenschaft und Kappe.
5) Über den Perlon-Trikotschlauch eine PVA Folie legen, um darauf die
Kappe zu laminieren. Zur besseren Kraftübertragung auch hier Car-
bonfaser-Gewebe 616G12 und Eingussplatte mit Bohrung 507S15
verwenden (Abb. 14).
6)Nach dem Aushärten der Laminierschicht die benötigten Befestigungs-
bohrungen zwischen Außen- und Innenschaft bohren. Danach den In-
nenschaft entnehmen und das Schaumformteil entfernen. Nun folgen die
Durchgangsbohrungen zwischen Außenschaft und Kappe.
7) Im Bereich des Gelenkanschlusses den Eingussring bzw. Schulterbü-
gel von der Laminierschicht entfernen (Abb. 15). Die äußere Form von
Außenschaft und Kappe durch Beschneiden und Beschleifen herstellen
(Abb. 16).
Im Anschluss erfolgt die Montage von Außenschaft, Kappe und Schultergelenk.
4.3 Einstellungen und Endmontage

Die Friktion der Bewegung der Anteversion und Retroversion lässt sich über
die Knebelschraube justieren (Abb. 3; Pos. 1). Diese an der Innenseite des
Außenschaftes einstellen.

Die Friktion der Bewegung durch die Klemmung der Kugel an der Zylin-
derschraube 501Z2=M4x18 einstellen (Abb. 12; Pos. 1).

2 Description
2.1 Indications for use
The 12S4 Ottobock shoulder joint and the 12S7 Ottobock ball shoulder
joint are to be used exclusively
limbs in combination with Ottobock arm components.
2.2 Field of application
The 12S4 Ottobock Shoulder Joint and the 12S7 Ottobock Ball Shoulder
Joint can be used on both sides for shoulder disarticulation and shoulder
girdle amputation.
These Ottobock Shoulder Joints can be used as component in an Ottobock
modular prosthesis.
2.3 Safety instructions
Please make your patients aware of the following safety instructions:
WARNING
Risk of accident when driving a motor vehicle. An upper extremity
amputee‘s ability to drive a vehicle is determined on a case-by-case

or bilateral, residual limb conditions, design of the prosthesis) and the
amputee‘s abilities.
All persons are required to observe their country’s national and state
driving laws when operating motor vehicles. For insurance purposes,
drivers should have their driving ability examined and approved by an
authorised test centre.
For maximum safety and convenience, Ottobock recommend that, at the
very least, a specialist evaluate the need for any adaptations to the car
(such as by installing a steering fork, automatic shift). Risk-free driving
should be ensured even when the prosthesis is not functioning.

CAUTION
Risk of injury as a result of excessive strain. The Ottobock prosthetic
components described in these instructions for use have been developed
for activities of daily living and must not be used for unusual activities
such as extreme sports (free climbing, paragliding, etc.).
Careful handling of the prosthesis and its components not only increases
their service life but, above all, ensures the patient‘s safety.
Should prosthetic components be subjected to unusual stresses (such
as a fall), immediately contact your prosthetist and have the components
inspected for any damage. If necessary, the responsible prosthetist will
pass the prosthesis on to the Ottobock Service.
NOTICE
Risk of corrosion. Prosthetic components must not be exposed to cor-
rosive elements such as fresh water, salt water, and acids.
Using this medical device in such environmental conditions will render
all claims against Otto Bock HealthCare null and void.
NOTICE
Risk of damage due to incorrect environmental conditions. Prosthetic
components must not be subjected to intense smoke, dust, vibrations,
shocks or high temperatures. Do not allow debris or liquids to get into
the prosthetic components. Failure to follow these instructions can lead
to malfunctioning and damage to the prosthesis.
NOTICE
Damage caused by improper cleaning agents. Do not use any ag-
gressive cleaning agents since they could cause damage to bearings,
seals and plastic parts. The product is to be cleaned with a damp cloth
and mild soap only.

2.4 Function
The Ottobock Shoulder Joints are available in the following versions:
12S4 Ottobock Shoulder Joint with lamination ring
12S7 Ottobock Ball Shoulder Joint with threaded stud
The 12S4 Ottobock shoulder joint as well as the 12S7 Ottobock ball shoul-
der joint have two degrees of freedom.
They allow for anteversion/retroversion and abduction/adduction movements. The
Ottobock Shoulder Joints are connected to the elbow component with bars.
Connection of an Ottobock modular prosthesis to the 12S7 Ottobock Ball
Shoulder Joint is possible with the 10R2 Adapter.

4 Handling
4.1 Preparing for assembly

socket. Attach a shaped part which may be needed for shoulder compensa-
tion to the inner socket.
For position and length adjustment, temporarily attach all single components
to the inner socket.


When adapting the length, make sure that the prosthesis will offer the patient
a high degree of freedom of movement.
With the 12S4 Ottobock shoulder joint, length adaptations are possible
by shortening the upper arm bars. Make sure, however, that there will be

With the 12S7 Ottobock Shoulder Joint, only make length adaptations via
the 12R4=* Elbow Joint.
Pay particular attention to the free swinging range of the shoulder joint.
The posterior stop should be at approximately 10° of retroversion (Fig. 2).
4.2 Assembly
INFORMATION
For patients with subtotal shoulder disarticulation, we recommend to
mount the shoulder joint distally at a little bit lower shoulder height for
reasons of symmetry and optical reasons.

1) Transfer the position of the lamination ring to the shaped part (Fig. 2).

Apply 640Z5=* Plaster Insulating Cream to the inner side of the lamina-


avoid damages to the shoulder support during bending, we recommend
using the 711S4 and 711S5 Bending Irons (Fig. 6/7).

3) Apply 640Z5=* Plaster Insulating Cream to the shoulder support and

contours of the shoulder support to the shaped foam part (Fig. 11/12).
Fabrication of the outer socket
The fabrication of the outer socket is described in the following at the
example of the 12S4 Ottobock Shoulder Joint:
1) Prior to lamination, the free swinging range and length adaptation must
be checked.
2)Disassemble the lamination ring or shoulder support from the Ottobock
Shoulder Joint.
3) Laminate the outer socket over the shaped part and lamination ring /
shaped part and shoulder support. Use 616G12 Carbon Fibre Cloth in
the transition area from outer socket to lamination ring / outer socket to

shoulder support in order to achieve secure force transmission between
the outer socket and modular arm component (Fig. 13). In the area of


later attachment of the cosmetic foam cover. This will allow easy dis-
assembly of the cosmetic foam cover when changing the friction setting
on the Ottobock Shoulder Joint. For this purpose, pull three layers of
623T3=* Perlon Stockinette over the outer socket, which serve as spacer
between the outer socket and cap.
5)Lay a PVA bag over the Perlon Stockinette for laminating the cap onto.
Again, use 616G12 Carbon Fibre Cloth and the 507S15 Steel Washer
with hole for better force transmission (Fig. 14).

support from the laminate (Fig. 15). Create the outer shape of the outer

Subsequently, assemble the outer socket, cap and shoulder joint.
4.3 Adjustments and nal assembly

The T-screw (Fig. 3; item 1) is used to adjust the friction of anteversion
and retroversion movement. Adjust it on the inner side of the outer socket.

Change the movement friction setting by adjusting the clamp of the ball on
the 501Z2=M4x18 Cap Screw (Fig. 12; item 1).

2 Description
2.1 Champ d’application
L’articulation d’épaule Ottobock 12S4 et l’articulation d’épaule à sphère
Ottobock 12S7 sont exclusivement destinées à l’appareillage exopro-
thétique des membres supérieurs en association avec les prothèses de
bras Ottobock.
2.2 Domaine d’application
L’articulation d’épaule Ottobock 12S4 et l’articulation d’épaule à sphère
12S7 peuvent être utilisées des deux côtés pour les désarticulations d’épaule
et les amputations de la ceinture scapulaire.
Ces articulations d’épaule Ottobock peuvent servir de composant dans
une prothèse modulaire Ottobock.
2.3 Consignes de sécurité
Veuillez communiquer les consignes de sécurité suivantes à vos patients :
AVERTISSEMENT
Risque d’accident en cas d’utilisation dans un véhicule automobile.
La question de savoir si et dans quelle mesure l’utilisateur d’une prothèse
de bras est apte à conduire un véhicule requiert une réponse nuancée.
Cela dépend du type d’appareillage (niveau d’amputation, unilatéral ou
bilatéral, état du moignon et conception de la prothèse) et des capacités
individuelles du porteur de la prothèse.
Respectez impérativement les directives légales relatives à la conduite
d’un véhicule automobile en vigueur dans votre pays et faites contrôler et

questions d’assurance).
En général, Ottobock recommande de faire adapter le véhicule aux besoins
de l’utilisateur par une entreprise spécialisée (pose d’une fourche de direc-
tion, démarrage automatique, par ex.). Il faut s’assurer qu’une conduite
sans risque est possible même lorsque la prothèse n’est pas opérationnelle.

ATTENTION
Risque de blessures occasionnées par une sollicitation excessive. Les
dispositifs prothétiques Ottobock décrits dans le présent mode d’emploi
ont été conçus pour effectuer des tâches courantes et ne doivent pas être
utilisés pour des activités exceptionnelles, comme les sports extrêmes
(escalade libre, parapente, etc.), par ex.
Un entretien minutieux de la prothèse et de ses composants permet non
seulement d’allonger leur durée de vie, mais sert avant tout à garantir
la sécurité du patient.
En cas de sollicitations extrêmes des éléments prothétiques (chute, par
ex.), faites immédiatement contrôler les dégâts subis par un orthopro-

la poussière denses, des vibrations, des chocs ou des chaleurs exces-
sives. Veillez à ce qu’aucune particule solide ni aucun liquide ne puis-
sent pénétrer dans la prothèse. Le non-respect de ces consignes peut
entraîner des dysfonctionnements et des dégradations de la prothèse.
